Patrick Seybold's Avatar + Posted by Patrick Seybold on May 16, 2011 // Sr. Director, Corporate Communications & Social Media

Now that some PlayStation Network and Qriocity services have been restored and you’re once again enjoying online gaming and entertainment, we’re happy to provide details about the “Welcome Back” appreciation program for customers in North America. We developed the program as an expression of our gratitude for your patience, support and continued loyalty during the service outage. From all of us at PlayStation, thank you and welcome back!

This package will be made available to all existing registered PlayStation Network and Qriocity users in North America (US and Canada), and will be made available shortly after we have fully restored the service. More specific details about these offers and eligibility requirements will be posted as the services go live.

All PlayStation Network customers can select two PS3 games from the following list. The games will be available for 30 days shortly after PlayStation Store is restored and can be kept forever.

  • Dead Nation
  • inFAMOUS
  • LittleBigPlanet
  • Super Stardust HD
  • Wipeout HD + Fury

For PSP owners, you will be eligible to download two PSP games from the following list. The games will be available for 30 days shortly after PlayStation Store is restored and can be kept forever.

  • LittleBigPlanet (PSP)
  • ModNation Racers
  • Pursuit Force
  • Killzone Liberation
  • A selection of “On Us” rental movie titles will be available to PlayStation Network customers over one weekend, where Video Service is available. Those titles will be announced soon.
  • 30 days free PlayStation Plus membership for non PlayStation Plus subscribers.
  • Existing PlayStation Plus subscribers will receive an additional 60 days of free subscription.
  • Existing Music Unlimited Premium Trial subscription members will receive an additional 30 days of free premium subscription.
  • Additional 30 days + time lost for existing members of Music Unlimited Premium/Basic subscription free of charge for existing Premium/Basic members.
  • To welcome users Home, PlayStation Home will be offering 100 free virtual items. Additional free content will be released soon, including the next addition to the Home Mansion personal space, and Ooblag’s Alien Casino, an exclusive game.

We’d like to thank all of our publishing and development partners who’ve contributed to the Welcome Back program, including Bigbig Studios, Codeglue, Digital Leisure, Guerilla Games, Heavy Water, Housemarque, Lockwood, Loot, Mass Media, Media Molecule, SCE Cambridge Studios, SCE Studio Liverpool, SCE San Diego Studios, and Sucker Punch Productions. We couldn’t have created such a compelling package without them!

As a reminder, you will be able to access the above content shortly after services are fully restored. We are doing everything we can to make that happen as soon as possible. Please visit the following sites for more information about the Welcome Back program in Europe and Latin America.

Thank you again for your support!

inFamous and LBP for me. I don’t buy that many games so free ones are appreciated.

Anyone know if we get 2 games for each system, or just 2 on either system? PSP games are kinda crappy, so nbd if its the latter, but I’d like to know…

I was overjoyed to hear that SONY lost almost 3 billion dollars this year. Hope you lose more market share next year. Serves you right you greedy jerks.

1st off i would like to say thankyou for taking care of the problem us gamers have had… but with that said since all it seems sony is taking care of almost all types of gamers with this .. unfortanitly me and most my friends find the welcome back package useless… we play fighting and RPG games and from what is listed nothing there is for us. the Playstation Plus for 30 days is great .. but something we wouldn’t use cause we straight out buy the products we want incase we have to let our ( Plus ) membership slide cause once its over you can’t play the games you download…. i know Sony that you mean well .. but by leaving out some of the genre of gamers that you did some of them .. myself included feel insulted. Once again thank you for the thought of the welcome back program , I’m just sorry that i can’t use any of the stuff.

I think Sony has gone above and beyond what I personally expected! Great Job!

I have been a loyal PS fan since the first one: playing Twisted Metal, Tomb Raider and Command & Conquer FOR HOURS!! EVEN DAYS!! I lived with several people and we would pass the controller to a roommate when one of us had to go to work.

Anyways, just some food for thought: Sony doesn’t own the games that they are providing for free. I’m sure a deal had to be made with the games’ producers. Although many of us have some or all of the games being offered, the gesture itself reaffirms my continuing commitment to Sony!

The deal goes like this: Heres 30 days of premier service for you ( same thing the cable company does everday with HBO to get you to keep it). And as an added bonus you can have 2 of these 5 3rd tier games downloaded onto your hard drive that you have 1) already bought, 2) never bought because even at list of 20 dollars you still dont want them, and now you have the rare opportunity to download them and take up your hard drive space. Wanna bet if you except this you will check a box in terms of deal that you except this as compensation for losing all of your personal details and cc info? Im sure youll feel great if your identity gets jacked and you lose your credit rating and the hassle that goes along with that because after all – you have pac man and donkey kong on your hard drive to make you feel better. So dance around with your free lolipop in circles thinking your a winner and hope for the best in the future. Ill be getting my own credit monitoring service and Sony can keep the junk.

In a way they don’t need to give us anything, they where down for such a long time, think about it they lost a lot of money giving everyone 2 free games is a very nice gift. So don’t be saying “i don’t like any of those games” or “why not just give us psn cash” what there doing is great and unneeded (all they need is to not get hacked again =p). Lets all just be happy that we can play online again.

I agree with xxbsbxx your ps plus offer is a marketing ploy. The only game worth having in your welcome back package is infamous and most of us already own it. I downloaded Dead Nation when it frst came out huge disappointment, overhead view liken to the 80′s game contra. LBP and the others are okay if you are 10. I know you did not have to offer anything but what you did offer is nothing but marketing strategy. For those of you who say psn is free I say this, during my life I have purchased 1 playstation with 51 titles, 2ps2′s with 131 titles, 2 ps3′s with 62 titles, 1psp with 23 titles, 378 downloaded rockband songs, DLC for many of my ps3 titles I.E. assasins creed games, black ops, RDR, killzone etc. I have also purchased 3 sony large screen tv’s, 2 sony prologic receivers, 2 sony vcr’s 2 sony dvd players, and this sony laptop i am complaining with, so i think i have payed my fair share to play on the psn. My biggest complaint is with your lack of communication during the blackout. Continued

None of my emails were answered so I called customer service. After 13 calls a rep answered told me he had no information and hung up on me. Really sony, this is how you treat a loyal customer of 20 plus years who has spent thousands and thousands of dollars on your products. Not all your gamers are children. A large portion are adults ( I’m 45) who also buy your big ticket electronics. So don’t give me a popsicle, pat me on the head while saying ” Hey big guy you know sony loves you”. I will remain loyal to ps3 because in my opinion it’s the best system out, but your treatment of the psn community has left a very bad taste in my mouth that your sour marketing popsicle will not take away. Your treatment of the blackout and your treatment of my honest inquiries prompted me to bypass the sony section at best buy 10 days ago when i needed a new tv. I went with the LG 50 inch plasma instead of the sony.

Okay…wait, wait. PS3 is a FREE online service. Why do they owe us anything at all? I lost no money, I was simply inconvenienced for a few weeks…but I could still play single player games. Yeah I feared for my info for a minute, but it is what it is.

Now the Plus subscribers I can understand, because they optionally pay for that service. Give them back their money + a few extras (I’m not a plus member, btw).

Now as a PR stunt they’re offering 2 free games for the PS3 & PSP, plus some whistles and bells and you ingrates are complaining? That’s absolutely laughable.

I will gladly accept the free offers. Thank you, Sony.

For those who think we are just complaining – thats ok but you are leaving a lot out of your argument. I keep hearing “they dont have to give us anything for the blackout” Youre right – they dont – and they arent doing it to be nice. They are doing it so we all dont leave and buy an xbox 360. I dont care about the blackout – I care about my personal details and credit card info being used and abused. For the youngsters who just used moms credit card this is a great deal for you because you have no credit rating or info that anyone cares about, but you are forgetting there are a LOT of adults that play as well and this effects us far more. For the adults this is a much bigger deal than a blackout and a couple of bad titles doesnt take away from that bad taste and possible future ramifications because as adults we need mortages and car loans and such that can be irrepreably damaged by this situation. Its the real life problems that are the issue not that you couldnt play your game for two weeks and because you dont have the real life issues you are happy with a couple of free 3rd tier games.

HEY SONY: People complaining about this list of games need to realize it’s all about minimizing your loss and that your not going to add games to it that still have potential to earn your company some cash.

Really It’s a freaking sad excuse for “appreciation” when you say hey this games not earning like it used to so why don’t we just give it away anyway and say it’s because of what our customers had to go through with being locked out and having there info stolen. I been a big supporter of sony since the original ps1 b4 that even I was a fond consumer of sony electronics but this is distasteful to throw these out like your giving back. why nothing new why the same tired worn out old B.s. that nobody wanted before. really why would they now.

The whole selected movies for a weekend thing…. really. what about those people that it takes a day to download a friggin movie are you really doing anybody a favor or would they just be better of going to crackle.com in their internet browser on the ps3 or googling extramina?

This whole time, during this whole affair i’ve been sticking up for you guys against what seems like the entire world just for you to b*tch smack me with this garbage?

Really sony now would be the time to think more about your customers than your profits because if this is how you repay loyal fans soon you won’t have any. Why continue to sh^t on your customers? you even smile and act like it’s a good thing. Your targets for the hacking community what makes you think finally updating your security is gonna keep this from happening again? The consumers have done way more for you than you have for them so wtf. give back a little, don’t insult your intelligent customers the way you have been the way you do the preteen kiddies on here telling you good job.

I’m pist having to go through the process of finding out whether or not i been robbed 2 weeks later having to change my bank account info and my credit card and my email and my payapal and my facebook and. etc. and I’m still hear hoping you wake up and decide to really make up for it and that i’m not wrong and sony really is great but it doesn’t seem likely nor does it seem likely that i will be buying sony products in the future. Anyone who seriously thinks this is a good deal is fooling themselves.

- Games were selected that people don’t own or don’t care to play. This should have been “choose any ONE free PS3 and/or PSP game from the library. Any game that’s currently for sale on PlayStation network is free for you to keep.” That way, people can choose from games they don’t own as well as games they would enjoy. None of those games have any appeal whatsoever to me. I also agree with the suggestion that you just get account credit that never expires or maybe a gift card for PS Store worth $50 (which effectively costs Sony pennies).

I can’t believe you ungrateful ingrates are complaining. You feel you deserve more for a service you don’t pay for? So what, you purchase a lot of Sony merchandise. I buy nothing but Nissan, by your logic they should buy my gas. Xbox owners im sure purchase a lot of Microsoft marchandise, they still have to pay. As for you had your information stolen, yes Sony should’ve protected it better but, it isn’t like they didn’t have any protection on it. Also, if you read the paper or watch the news, assuming you can comprehend what they say, Identity Theft is the highest crime commited in the world right now. If your information is on the internet then it is exposed. All it takes is a team who knows what they are doing to get it.

Sony does offer PSN cards, that way people who don’t trust the internet can purchase things without put their information on there. Also food for thought, what about all of the tellers, cashiers, waitresses/waiters, ect. that you hand your credit card to they can get your information too, and YOU gave it to them. Who whould you blame then? Probably that company. If you “adults” don’t want your credit affected by this then cancel your card and get a new one. It is that simple. You act like you have never lost a card or had one stolen. Quit being a bunch of babies. Just because you own all of the games doesn’t mean anything. Trade in the ones that have the highest trade in value. InFamous and LBP both have a $20 trade in value where I live, and I already traded them in.

6945

+ Bin01001011 on May 28th, 2011 at 11:10 am said:

Also they can’t offer games that they don’t own. These developing companies came to them and said “Hey we do a lot of business with yall and would like to offer these games in a package when the network comes back online.” You don’t think about that. As for your ignorant FF7 idea, Sony does not make games. Developing companies do, like Rockstar, Trearch, Bungie, InfinityWard,…… just to name a few. If you think programming isn’t hard and that they aren’t working day and night.

That is only seven words and took two min. They have years worth of this to desypher, in order to find where the intrusion was. I truly would have hated to had that job at that point.
