Now that PlayStation Network is once again operational, a great many of you are once again enjoying playing games online. Of course, that’s only part of the Network’s offerings – and you’ve got some questions about how the downtime affected planned releases and online events. Here are answers to some of the more pressing queries:
Q: So what exactly is working right now?
A: Sign-in for PlayStation Network and Qriocity (including the resetting of passwords), online gameplay for PS3 and PSP, playback of rental video content on PS3 (if within rental period), Music Unlimited powered by Qriocity on PS3 (for current subscribers), access to services such as Netflix, Hulu, Vudu, and MLB.tv, “Friends” category on PS3 (including Friends List, Chat Functionality, Trophy Comparison, etc), in-game leaderboards, and PlayStation Home.Q: I’m having trouble changing my password/I forgot which email I used on my account/I used a fake email to set up my account.
A: Click here for a set of tips on resetting your password. If you’ve gone through the process and are waiting for an email from us, please note that the very large number of requests has caused certain ISPs to slow the rate at which recipients get emails from us. Please be patient as the systems work through the backlog.Q: The PlayStation Store hasn’t updated since April 19th. When can I download digital games that were planned to be released since then?
A: To date, three Tuesday publishes were missed, which included items like Under Siege and the MotorStorm Apocalypse demo. Rest assured that you won’t miss any of this great content. To catch up on the large amount of material, we’ll be publishing to the PlayStation Store multiple times per week once commerce functionality is restored. We will update the PlayStation.Blog with information on timing of the Store restoration, as well as the full list of new content as each publish occurs.Q: How will PlayStation Plus members be affected by the PSN downtime? A number of games/items were slated to go live or come down on April 26th.
A: We will be picking back up with the PlayStation Plus content calendar where we left off to ensure that you won’t miss out on anything.Q: Sucker Punch has indicated that they will extend the inFAMOUS 2 beta. Any details?

A: Zipper will announce details on activities to re-engage fans of SOCOM 4 who have patiently waited to play online.Q: What about the Call of Duty: Black Ops Double XP weekend that was missed while PSN was down?
A: We have been in discussions with our friends at Treyarch, and they have ensured that all Call of Duty: Black Ops fans will get an extra Double XP event as soon as PSN comes back online. We don’t have details on timing just yet, but look forward to an announcement as soon as we have news.Q: How can I redeem the Welcome Back offer that was mentioned by Kazuo Hirai? What’s in it?

Hey nebody else having problems recieving the reset password e-mail? my account did it just fine but my old ladies account says it sent her an email with the password reset link in it yesterday afternoon and its been a whole day and she still hasn’t received one. she has tried again today but to the same effect nothing. any suggestions?

My PSN was working yesterday and i went to play another game “black ops” online and try to log back in it gave me the network in maintenance message?? any clue whats that all about??
Some games come with Game ADD ON downloads through the network. Are they working? can you still download this content or will this be up and running when the PS store is broght back? and Also When Are you gonna be fully functional?

just a quick question..did we loose any info with outage..before the outage when i play NHL10 online..my created pro had a higher skill lev. and now its lower and my gear is standard not my upgrades stuff.. hence the lower stats..any info u my have on this would be great…
Nice to be able to log back in! Kind of concerned that the Japanese Govt. is not letting you role out in Japan because they still have some concerns. Hope you share with us whats going on. Is there still things missing on the security side?
I have both xbox and ps3 so thhe outage didn’t affect my online gaming as much as others but it still wasn’t great because of so many modders on black ops it has lost its fun factor for me and so it just made the wait even more worthwhile to get back on psn with KZ 3 thanks for all your hard work sony getting the service back online. LONG LIVE THE ISA!

thanks sony for bringing us back online. But i bought my ps3 and i have 3 online game i cant use because I cant redeem the code. Is there any chance that this feature will be brought back before the store. I just hope I don’t have to wait an extra week to play dcuo which is the main reason I bought a ps3.
I’ll be truthful, I hope I don’t have to wait another 3 weeks (may 31st) to use my mk, crysis and dcuo. But I will if I have too.

I’m not too sure I understand the email issue? Does this email get sent out to everyone or just those that are having problems resetting their passwords through the PS3?
I have reset my password through the PS3 and am able to go online, am I going to receive this email?

This is a good start. Now how about allowing us to change our Online ID as part of the apology. Also, allowing third-party sites/services able to access trophy & current status information. Maybe automatically installing downloaded demos, games & content instead of a separate installation step.

Excellent update, Jeff. Thanks for the hard work you guys have put out for getting the services up and running.
This will be a case-study in how to handle a catastrophic data breach in the future. One thing I tell my students in my database classes is: don’t bring the data back online if there is any chance of it failing shortly afterwards. In other words, make sure that when it comes back – make it come back properly.
Of course, I play games to get away from people, so online isn’t as important to me personally, but I do like trophies and I do like extra content. It will be interesting to see how you handle customer service issues. I think a “I survived the PSN outage” trophy would be fun!

Would love a way to get around having to have the store just to download dcuo. Everyone is playing it that already had an account. I love my $60 dcuo paper weight. Holds all the papers down while the ac is blasting in my house! Come on Sony let’s get it together.

@Jeff Rubenstein – I have a question regarding the PSN Video Store (U.S.) that wasn’t covered in the FAQ. As you may already know, there’s some content (such as G4TV’s X-Play & Attack of the Show episodes) that are put onto the PSN Store on a weekly basis & are only up for sale for a relatively short/limited time (2 to 3 weeks on average). Seeing as PSN & the video store have been down for awhile, thus preventing people from buying said content, how is the sale of that content going to be handled? Will it essentially be “skipped over” in favor of newer episodes? Or will we be given a little extra time to buy those episodes/content? I’m just curious ’cause I regularly buy that stuff on my secondary PSN account (Movie_Profile) & aside from when PSN was down & when I had the YLoD last year, I never missed buying that content @ all. Thanks.

@237. No. I don’t know where you heard that, but I seriously doubt it. After negative publicity that this outage has generated, making PSn a pay service would be a terrible business move.
i have 3 codes that i need to redeem. socom avatars, and the shave gel/ razor promos. just wondering if the store will be up by the end of the month cause thatll be money wasted when they expire.
I am so glad that its back up. I had a question for thought. Sony said the will have a welcome back package that includes 1 month of playstation plus. My question is what happens when the month is up? we lose all that we downloaded and it would be a waste of time and space on the HDD. I seen where someone commented complaining about others simply saying that we should be able to get a 59.99 game. Now I know that is not going to happen but it would be nice. I buy the majority of my games 95% of the time just for online play and when I havent been able to get on for almost a month it gets irritating. I know it was not Sonys fault but I just do not think playstion plus for a month is a good idea. I think we should be alloted so much and get to choose a game of our own choice for 59.99 or be credited that much to get what we want. It is only downloaded games anyways its not like a disc where you have to send it to us. Like I said it will not happen though. Just a dream…
