Resistance 3 Box Art, Logos Revealed

James Stevenson's Avatar + Posted by James Stevenson on May 18, 2011 // Community Lead, Insomniac Games

Today we’re proud to reveal the Resistance 3 box art that you can hold in your hands when the game hits store shelves on September 6th. You should recognize right away that this graphic version of the Chimeran Skull with the New York skyline depicted as its teeth, as well as the stylized version of the Resistance franchise logo, isn’t your typical “rendered hero” box art. To create this new look, we partnered with Olly Moss, a talented British artist, to create a bold vision of the Resistance 3 box art for both the North American and European territories.

Resistance 3 box art

The Resistance team worked closely with Olly to share our vision for the Chimera-occupied 1957, and Joesph Capelli’s journey across the destroyed USA to his destination, New York City. You’ll see this in the alternate version of the art below, which shows Capelli walking towards the NYC skyline.

Resistance 3: Capelli Version

We wanted Olly’s work to reflect that in Resistance 3, YOU are the Resistance. Resistance 3 isn’t a military shooter, as the United States Army and SRPA have been destroyed. Instead, Resistance 3 is about the remnants of humanity finding any way possible to survive in a brutal world.

Resistance 3: Skull and Guns

This work coincides with Olly’s first art show in Hollywood at the Gallery 1988 (which runs until May 20th, if you’re in the LA-area). We’re excited about the new look of the box art and expect to see additional Resistance 3 art by Olly throughout the campaign. You can find out more info about Olly, and see more of his fantastic art, by checking out www.ollymoss.com.

Resistance 3 Stamp Black

You may have also heard that we will be bringing exclusive early access to a nearly half-hour single-player demo straight to your PS3 on June 14th! The demo will be included on specially-marked Blu-Ray copies of the Sony Pictures sci-fi action thriller Battle: Los Angeles (which you may recall from the now memorable Resistance 3 billboard spotted on a Sony film set). The demo level is the entire boat ride sequence of the game, as Joseph Capelli and Dr. Malikov discover a flooded town infested with Chimera. We hope you’ll enjoy the small taste of atmosphere, environmental storytelling and exciting action sequences you’ll see in the final version of Resistance 3 on September 6th.

As we lead up to E3 and the game’s launch, there’s still more news to come, so keep it tuned to our Twitter feed, Facebook and sign up to Join the Resistance for all the latest updates on Resistance 3.

Never got into the Resistance games, they always seemed interesting, anyways, the box art looks cool alot different than past ones, also very different in the sense of the feel as far as the color scheme anyways, not as dark, attracts the eye for sure, who’s gonna miss that white/orange in a sea of game box art lol…

That’s really different from Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2′s boxart. Still, it look amazing. Looking forward to Resistance 3!

Looks great. Very different change from the first two games. But I always liked simple covers. Can’t wait for the beta and the demo. :)

Could have picked something other than orange I think. It’s grating to the eyes. Still irked at Capelli being the character. Ick.

Honestly, this would have been cool on the inside of the box but as the main outside one, its a bit lacking.

Use Capelli walking towards the NYC skyline for the box art. The box art without it is just bland and boring looking.

Uh, while it’s very artistic and everything, something bothers me…have you guys ever heard of continuity? I mean, all 3 Resistance box covers are so different from each other that it’s almost hard to believe they are part of the same series….

No joke guys, that is one of the best box arts I have seen in a while. The inserts, and CD are great as well. I love the simplistic nature of it in a era when everyone clutters everything up. That logo sums it all up.

LOVE IT!, and I CANT WAIT FOR THE GAME!

Very cool, with the exception of the giant blue “Move moon” up top! I’m happy for Move-support (will play it that way), but I’ve always thought the branding was overpowering, and it really shows on a simple, artistic cover like this. In fact, all the logos on the bottom should be turned black and creme. (The only colors that should be on this cover, are orange, black, creme!)

+ lostinplainsight on May 18th, 2011 at 8:44 am said:

cool box art it looks like an old propaganda flyer but i have to agree with kaze the one with capelli walking towards the skyline would make a much stronger cover. it gives you everything you need to know about the story at a glance.

Koo, the simplicity in a nice change of pace. The high saturation of the red is eye catching. BTW a Collector’s Edition would be nice. <3

Keep up the good work Insomniac. Personally, I wish the Capelli version was used for the cover, but its still awesome that you try to do things more unique and different. Looks very 50s retro and cool.

Looks good! I like the different style. Perhaps provide high quality/resolution alternate covers to print or purchase? I also enjoy the Capelli skyline as well.

Having took graphic design courses in the past I must say the cover looks pretty cool.

I love the iconic design. A lot of game box art is over action-y and gets lost on the shelf with everything looking sort of the same. This make me remember when I used to go into a CD store (I’d say record, but ….yea) and just checking out covers that attracted me, that stood out. This for me, is akin to that experience. Well done.
