Both PS3s in our house working just fine with LA Noire. Understand is a large game, maybe using more of the processor power, but if you give it some air guys, it should be OK? Maybe even clean the dust off of the grill now and again.
The only reason why any PS3 system would be over heating, is due to poorly ventilated areas, and excessive playing.
I’ve been watching the attack on Sony for quite some time now, and 90% of the people commenting are going mad due to lack of ONLINE GAMING. This tells me that when someone picks up a game they like (and a LOT of people are in love with Rockstar games, from what I can tell) they play it religiously.
I own the original 20gb backwards compatible PS3, and kept it in a very well ventilated area, and it never failed. Those with your PS3 Wifi editions abuse the fact that it needs no wires to connect online, and store it away in spots that seem more convenient to the user, and not the console itself.
Remember guys, respect your console, and it’ll respect you. If I were Rockstar, I’d be proud that people are obsessively playing my game till the console overheats.

Firmware updates cause YLoD. Play a while after update and boom!
I’ve been playing this game for 3 days straight, 6-8 hours a day and haven’t had any problems. I have noticed the system runs warmer and the cooling fans are kicking up but I haven’t had any freezes or meltdowns.
It might be where some are placing their systems.
You must allow for proper ventilation or you will have problems.
Also, Room temp has allot to do with system performance so if you’re playing in a hot room things might get ugly.
This game really puts a strain on system resources so make sure you keep it cool… :O)

Yesterday I was playing LA Noire on my 80 gig fat boy that is place in a well vented area. Had played the game sine I bought it on the 17th when it was released with no issues. While playing it on the 19th for about an hour it beeps and shuts it self down. I get up to look at the console feel it to make sure that its not hot and attempt to turn it on again only to get the YLOD (yellow light of death). A few hours later I attempted to turn it on again and still nothing. If it’s not the game it’s the 3.61 patch that has burnt out my unit. Why is it that all of a sudden within a few days since the patch and the release of LA Noire that all of the older 20,40,60, and 80 gig fat boys are burning out? Why is it that I should have to shell out more of my hard earned money for something I had nothing to do with? When I Called Sony…….. (cont)
When I Called Sony to tell them what happened I was told I would need to pay $129.00 to have it fixed. If it is in fact that my system is older and it was its time to go then why are so many people having the same issues as me? What kind of product are they putting out that several hundreds or thousands of people have had the YLOD in the past few days? The way I see it is either Sony Mans up and repairs all of these Fat boy consoles as the were under warranty, or give a discounted slim line to us to purchase, or I return every single piece of Sony items I own and buy a X-Box. I always used to say that the X-Box is for jerks but now I’m starting to feel like the jerk for buying Sony. Stand by your customers Sony We have dealt with enough from you guys over the past few weeks here and stood by you. I think its time for you to do the same for us.

I think I’m starting to see a pattern here.
It seems like the older systems are the ones having the problems.
One thing might be that they’re just worn out and a newer game that really taxes system resources are causing the older systems to show out parts that where getting ready to burn out anyway or, it could be that some owners of older systems haven’t been keeping the vents clean and when they try to play such a new game the system can’t keep cool because of the blockage of dirty vents and fans.
I’d say that if you own an older system, make sure you clean it up well before attempting to play newer games.
Also, don’t get mad because Sony won’t give you a new system because your 4 year old PS3 finally gave up the ghost, lord have mercy come on now.
Do you think ANY car Co would give you a new car because after 4 years, your engine blew up?
Do you think ANY computer Co is going to replace your 4 year old laptop, because it stopped working??

Thank you dear god, I have been too busy playing online to do it, then i forgot. The worst thing about the outage was getting on here for info, only to find that guy trolling, and whining. Glad I’m not alone!!
The constant HATE MAIL (PSN MESSAGES on PS3) FROM READERS HERE TODAY IS UNACCEPTABLE. Death Threats and mistaking me for a psn hacker are outrageous. Never once did I say I hacked the psn, I tracked and hacked and found out real info on those that made it possible. noone cared to listen, heck someone in san fran area is selling custom firmware to users for twenty bucks. Why dont ya go hassle the hell out of him. Anymore messages or friends requests disguised as hate mail will not be tolerated. This has turned into a Legal matter now. Lawyers called. I am going to sue. Dont even doubt me for a second about that. Atrocious some of you lot are. Ungrateful too for the care package. My ps3 cant play games, i got portal 2 to work after 20 tries. Sony fault not mine at all, my ps3 is kept in mint condition. AlsoYou lot here thinking that a ps3 message lets you get away with murder, there’s Grief Reporting there as well and it’s proof. It seems like a see these kinds of threads every time a new game comes out. I remember a rash of these types of posts on the forums whenever Uncharted 2 came out. It could be, God forbid, coincidence.

I’ve logged about 10 hours of LA Noire with no problems… on my XBOX360.
HOWEVER, my lady hasn’t even put in 4 hours with the game on our PS3, and it’s crashed on her 9 times.
Needless to say, she refused to let me PAY to have the PS3 fixed or get a new one.
When I came home from work today, I saw the 360 sitting on the living room floor with LA Noire on the screen. She was not home, and I noticed that the game was stopped at the Art Museum’s hedge maze from the Quarter Moon case, so I was positive that she not only took moved the 360 from the gameroom (which annoys me, since she never puts it back correctly) but was also playing on my account (which, of course, is sacrilege).
HOWEVER, I then noticed the newly opened 360 box on an end table and the absence of the PS3. When I called her, she told me that she left for Walmart after she let me out the driveway this morning, and gotten the system, then marathon sessioned until about noon.
She was at Gamestop trading the PS3 in for some ms points and a gold membership when I called her. Told me that she got it to work with her blow dryer, towels and a box or something…. Poor Gamestop shoppers… I almost feel sorry for them… ALMOST.
So, yeah, we’re done with Sony, for now. See ya in the next console generation, guys. Laters!!
I’ve been playing L.A. Noire constantly on my 120GB slim since picking it up on Tuesday, probably for at least 3 1/2 to 4 hours per session. No sign of lockups, hickups, etc. System’s running like a dream, and the game is EXCELLENT. It definitely holds my interest far better than GTA can. Really in-depth, story driven gameplay. There’s really nothing quite like it out there, but it does remind me of adventure games of old, but with a level of polish and shine that can only be offered by the current generation.
Perhaps there’s a problem with the old fats overheating, but they do that all the time anyway. My brother just finished the game on his 120GB slim that he got about a year ago, and he must’ve played at least a solid 8 hours on the first day without a hint of trouble.
is this game any good? i have gamefly, and i want to test games out before i buy it and not be dissapointed.

Honestly i believe the freezing is purely a result of the weather because I noticed when i play (for hours at a time) my PS3 has overheated only once and it was about 80 degrees in my house. (160GB slim) Also i don’t experience any of the glitches or anything because I’m repping the SD TV. But trust me the graphics are still extremely good. Anyways the main point is that this is not Sony’s fault. My friend bought the game for 360 and he can barely play it. His 360’s crash (he has 2) all the time. Sony you’re doing a great job! So glad i switched to PS3! :)

Has anyone else noticed that most people having problems have tried to access the store, maybe its somehow tied to that. I for one haven’t had any problems with my 120gb slim model, no freezes, shutdowns, nor overheating. Been playing the game for a few hours now.

Start handling your business properly. First off you get arrogant with system security and now my personal information is probably in the hands of someone in Nigeria and now you’re not even offering proper customer support or even a proper reason when peoples systems, which mind you could be up to 599 US dollars brand new, are failing on them because of a game that YOU authorized for distribution on YOUR system. I have La Noire and it doesnt heat up my ps3. So I guess it depends on how long you play your ps3 system if you play your system for more than 24 hrs and not letting the system rest then that might be the problem. the cooling system cant absorb all the heat and power you are using on the system and the sooling system to rest sometimes when you using the ps3.

Just go away. You are correct, many of us could really care less what you have to say about the hacking outage. You constantly whined and cried about all this info you had and what you were going to do about being ignored, yet you are still here. As far as going to lawyers about what some people have done to you, go ahead. The reality of the situation is that I couldn’t care less about that either. I haven’t sent anything to you, and I’m sure the majority of the other gamers on this thread haven’t either, therefore it isn’t applicable to us. We came on this blog to get information about psn, games, and what Sony is doing now. We did not come on here to hear your rumors, whining, and threats. According to what you have said in the past you have already been to your lawyers, by all means, waste some more of your money. I will kindly ask that you quit bothering the rest of the people who come here to read about games and the psn while you handle that.

I’ve had the game since its release and haven’t experienced any abnormalities with my PS3 Slim. Whatever the problem is, hopefully they fix it soon.
Sony don’t lie to to use we all know its the game its self is to strong for some consoles to handle so if that’s the case don’t lie and say its neither companies fault , sometime you have to tell its how it is whether people like it or not we rather hear the truth.

If you try to access the PS store while in the game it will lock up, due to the fact that the playstation store is still down! I noticed it does this with LA Noire but not other games.

Reuters reports that So-Net, the Japanese Internet service provider part of Sony, has been attacked by an intruder who stole virtual points from account holders worth 100,000 yen, or approximately $1,225.
“At this point in our investigations, we have not confirmed any data leakage,” the company said in a statement to customers on its website. “We have not found any sign of a possibility that a third party has obtained members’ names, addresses, birth dates and phone numbers.”
So-Net has suspended all So-Net points transactions pending investigation of the intrusion, and has encouraged all its customers to change their passwords to something new — and more secure. Good luck getting them to admit it if there IS an issue, my 80GB model was among thousands that the BR Drive quit working because of the multispeed test on firmware 3.0, and they never admitted that either! Wouldn’t even give me a break on the $150 plus shipping and ins costs to get it fixed, so I now have a 80 GB bricked model, and a new 160 GB slim model. I would recommend the extended warrenty to anyone buying a new one, seems to be something worth buying on these
I think if just the consoles, I played it for 4 hours straight and the only problem I had was that it froze when I tried to access the store on the main menu for the DLC. For some reason i didn’t pre-order it but when I went to buy it at Gamestop it came with the naked city case and another case. I guess it was just to make up for the hacked accounts and credit card info and what not.
I haven’t had a single problem with LA Noire Yet Amazing game though hopefully game of the year for the 32 HD cameras that capture facial expersions which help determine wether they are telling the truth or not when you interogate them
My 60 GB PS3 has had a hardware failure from overheating after the last update. It was the first time it had ever overheated since I owned it. I have never played LA Noire so the game is not the problem. This rests squarely on Sony’s shoulders despite what they claim.
For all the people without 60GB PS3s saying it is a ventilation and dust problem or playing too long, I can’t speak for everyone, but if you read the comments of those that have had their PS3 die they’ve said they keep it in a well ventilated place and vacuum out dust. And I think most people are smart enough to know that hardware devices like computers and game systems need ventilation. There is nothing around my PS3, I don’t play it for long hours and I make sure there is no dust in the vents. Yet sometimes it only takes 5 minutes into AC:Brotherhood and I’ll notice artifacting and poling because of the GPU overheating. That is the fault of a manufacturing defect, which has been corrected, in newer PS3 models like the Slim.
If you do some googling you will see the original statement by Rockstar that the freezing is the fault of older PS3s and firmware 3.61. Rockstar could not make that statement against another company like Sony without proof. Rockstar even said they tested it locally with several PS3 models and found the problem to be older PS3s and firmware 3.61.
Most companies (like Microsoft has) would recognize they have made the mistake and are liable to replace those systems with a manufacturing defect.
Interesting to hear about overheating problems and long hour marathons. I have had my 60g BC for about four years ( given used as a xmas, fathers day birthday gift) and truthfully, I have not turned it off since I got it, except when I moved from my old house to a new house about a year ago. I have it on Life at playstation as a screen saver while helping with Genetic research (playing while helping… such the good deed.) I have yet to have a problem (knock on wood).
NOW I have gone through 4 xbox360 for various reasons in the two years I have owned one… ( since my last one I have gotten rid of it a got some a bit more dependable… a WII.) I am gathering it must be the fact I clean and dust my vents, keep it out of the entertainment unit so it’s not choked up and mostly tend to it with routine cleaning when I clean the living room. AND I have done marathon games ( ex. 122 hrs Mass Effect 2, 489 hrs Oblivion, 192 hrs Fallout NV, 210 Fallout 3 ,but, not all in one sitting though… I do work and have a wife to take care of…) So even though we have cats a dog, I do smoke and I don’t use an intercooler, I have not run into any problems that would force me to rethink Sony and the ps3 being anything less than a great system… NOW if we talk of my former Xbox… that’s a whole new different bag of beans…
Its not the update nor is it the game. Its clearly the company and the pos console. Or maybe LA Noire activates YLOD if you haven’t had it yet, cause the date for YLOD comes at random times. Meh, just faulty pos consoles. I got YLOD 2 months ago. So, I’m not surprised that this happened. Keep breakin stuff sony and reap in the wealth from repairs. You guys are geniuses.
