UPDATED: PlayStation Network Scheduled Maintenance Today

UPDATE: The maintenance has been completed, and Account Management and other affected functions are once again accessible. Thanks, as always, for your patience.

PlayStation Network is scheduled to undergo maintenance today, from about 8am until approximately 5pm Pacific time. During this time, registration and Account Management will be inaccessible, including the password reset process. While some users may experience difficulty signing in to PSN, the majority of consumers will be able to play online as well as sign in to external sites that require PSN authentication (like this one).

For those asking about the PlayStation Store, we’re still targeting restoration of all services by the end of this month. Contrary to reports, the Store will not be publishing today.

Stay tuned to the PlayStation Twitter feed for updates and a notice when maintenance has concluded.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

  • @56 where did you read that psn cards expire? and when do they expire?

@62 umm tonight or tomorrow? it cant be up tonight when teh blog post specifuically states it wont be up today.. that means it wont be up anytime BEFORE midnight today.. which rules out it being up tonight

  • Chaotic_Renegade

and you couldnt have said this yesterday?

  • i just wanna add my $40 in cards and buy stuff ther a month old >.> pretty sure they dont expire for a long time though

  • Welcome Back Package aint worth crap if i cant access it. One (as every real gamer complains) these are oviously games sony doesnt have to pay to DEVs for, else why whould they so easily give them free? 2: old and cheap games, yes they are very nice, and good games, but old.

why they cant just suck it up and give us a choice of 2/5 games OR $10 PSN credit – id take the credit over $30 worth of games haha, the store isnt even up by the promised date to devs. (yes they promised Devs their stuff whould be sold and bought may 24th) unless sony is lieing about said memo lol

  • I think a way that Sony could have made the damage from the PSN hack less than what it is going to be is if they had suggested that people use the Playstation Network cards which one could almost everywhere instead of using a credit card. I mean which sounds better using a credit card online where it could be the info could be stolen or use a Playstation Network card that costs either Twenty or Fifty dollars and no personal information is giving online, but is basically the same thing as using a credit card.

I also think Sony has really dropped the ball in keeping their customers informed as to what has been happening and when everything is going to be up and running, this is the age of social media, and honestly I haven’t seen anything on Facebook about the PSN hack and restart. Plus there was an article on the video game site Kotaku on May 19th saying the PSN store would be open today and no one from Sony thought to issue a statement saying that the article is wrong?

  • @ShadowDoGGG exactly how is this a bother to you, it says that you should be able to still log on and play games. ( the majority of consumers will be able to play online as well as sign in to external sites that require PSN authentication (like this one).) How are they slighting you by doing the update at the same exact time as the US update and it is not going to cause you to not be able to play online? People you seriously need to get a grip also you might want to read the EU blog because you got the EU down time wrong. Here is a link https://blog.eu.playstation.com/2011/05/24/playstation-network-maintenance-later-today/

  • Damn tired of Sony misleading it’s psn customers. I love how I got the ps+ and can’t even use it. Just the same old sony, promises and promises but they never pull thru with those promises. I own all 3 systems and just to point out live is better than psn as we all know, shoot even the wiishop is better than psn right now. seriously i would expect this from nintendo. seriously thinking about selling my 320gb ps3 because of all the crap that sony put its “valued customers.” Bring on project cafe and those 6′ touchscreen controllers.

  • I’M IMPRESSED BY HOW GREEDY MOST PEOPLE ARE,a mostly free service goes down and just like flies on sh-t, there they are. I just don’t get it.The only people that should get anything are the person/persons that caused this,as for the rest if you were in anyway financially damaged, yes then and only then should compensation should be paid.

  • They did say the end of the month, and it’s not the end of the month yet. I can wait. :)

  • @89 i say if sony dont announce it to us it is most likely not true. although thay have led us astray in the past but the fact remains outside news that involve ps3 and there network aint intirly true so dont beleave the hype untill its announced.

  • This rumor has been floating around for almost a week now, and you knew this rumor was out there….. Why did you wait until today to debunk it? Why did you wait a damn WEEK to deny it?

Why can’t you idiots give a damn date already and stick with it. (and “by the 31st derp” doesn’t count)

    Absolutely pathetic.

  • FUNNY HOW IT WAS SCHEDULED MAINTENACE BUT DID NOT HEAR ABOUT IT TILL THE DAY OF…

  • …this is a letdown. for now on I’ll just go by what Sony says instead of listening to other sites and their so called ‘reports.’

Had me hoping that PS store would be back today, even though nothing confirming that was ever posted here on the Blog.

    Oh well….

  • Sony, I’d suggest after this fiasco is over, provide some training to your employees. Specifically on “managing users’ expectations”. When you’re honest, let people know what’s going on, and let them know the challenges you’re facing, they will be satisfied. However, when all the users’ get is silence, their imagination will run wild creating worst-case scenarios. It’s human nature.

  • As long as I’m able to play online, it’s fine. Take your time. But, the EU PS Blog said we won’t be able to sign in to PlayStation Network unless we sign in before the maintenance begins. How are you saying we can play online? :D

  • btw guys any of you interested in visiting sony E3 site here is the link http://www.sceainvites.com/e3_2011/

  • This is a bit disappointing, but I guess I’ll just spend this downtime writing or designing or something.

  • Really? Your taking the network down AGAIN?!?! Even after what happened? So then what the Hell were your doing for the past month of the outage? You guys are a sad bunch…

  • I cant wait

  • Sony, how can you possibly be this ignorant? You obviously knew of these reports of having the Store opened today. Why did you just sit back and let them continue up until the very last minute? When you’re done fixing the Store, perhaps you should consider investing in your Customer Support.

  • alright thanks ill be busy til Jun 1st thanks sony

  • Lets get some new features going on here come on sony!

  • @111 You can still play online. Quit crying.

  • You guys gonna add another protective layer of firewall to prevent any further break in’s?! Sony really needs to get their shizzle together!

  • OOOOOOOMMMMMMFFFFFGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!

  • Since you are not getting the store up and running after all this time can I get you to atleast make it so I can put my add-on content onto a usb flashdrive from your website and put it onto my PS3? (Just like an update for the PS3) I have been waiting to be able to redownload some of my DLC map packs I have already purchased and cant unless I can get into the store on my PS3 (B.S if you ask me) witch is not up yet and has no date to be up?

  • [SIGHT] Ok…Thanks for the update on the PS Store [SIGHT]

  • i want ps store please

  • @111 atleast you will be able to LOG INTO YOUR ACCOUNT AND PLAY ONLINE during the Scheduled Maintenance time. it is not like thay are taking our online play away.

  • Thanks for waiting this long to deny reports of the Store being up today.

  • Thanks for the update!

  • Anyone still defending sony because its a “Free” service is blinded by their loyalty to a piece of plastic. Its been over a month now! a month and they cant have it fully restored in a month!!!!! stop defending sony.

  • @125 They said by May 31st.

  • Take your time sony I know what you may be going thru is rough. but in the end i stay loyal till the end.

  • take your time but make the system flawless, and I hope i get to play online when i get back home in a few hours. If not then will play after the maintenence. Cheers!

  • ok thanks sony

  • hope it stays up 4 the most part! or its LA NORIE TILL 7pm

  • @125

just give it a few days its only the 24th. if the store aint up by the 1st the you can complain.

  • DOESN’T SUPRISE MY THAT SONY MADE THIS ANNOUCEMENT TODAY ON A TUESDAY. SURE I CAN WAIT ANOTHER WEEK…. YAY WE GET TO SEE MORE VIDEOS & B.S FOR ANOTHER WEEK GREAT….MIIGHT AS WELL TURN MY PS3 ON NEXT MONTH

  • Absolutely pathetic…Not about the store not being up, but about Sony’s costumer support. Sony’s such a joke when it comes to support. Even when you call in the people on the phones have to go get their manager because they act like they’ve never even heard of a PS3 before. Get your crap together.

  • Well, couldn’t they just make it so that Credit Card Numbers can’t be used on any other ps3 or psp other than the one it was registered to? That would eliminate the threat of priates using our credit cards to purchase stuff from PSN atleast.

  • i think sony should stop putting up details about the welcome back package on the ps3 then. i’m sick and tired of seeing it just because i can’t even do nothing without the damn psn store.

  • I am playing blackops on XBox until this store issue is resolved, Playstation you better get this right or I will just use my 2 PS3’s for blueray players and thats it.

  • i mean getting the package without the psn store.

  • Did anyone redeem their MK9 online code??

  • @138

I did the day it came out ^_^

  • We must defend SONY!! The rewards will be great. the free games will rain down from the sky and I will be praised as the ultimate keyboard warrior for defending my fair maiden oh SONY I love you so. Then SONY will ask me to work for them because I am such a swell guy and they love having me around, not to mention the fact that I am quite a force to be reckoned with when my fanboy nerd rage kicks in.

Step back nerds, look at it: Sony is treating you like American trash and laughing at you. You love it or not, your choice.

  • I fear sony has learned NOTHING in the past few weeks. After all the **** about keeping there customers in the dark. Sony knew these rumours have been around for a few days now, and their just now saying it isn’t true on their blog. They need to inform us of what EXACTLY is happening in a more timely fashion. I’m losing more confidence in sony by the day. I don’t know why all these people are saying “oh it’s ok sony” , customers deserve better than this. I have been waiting patiently with all other PSN users but my patience is running thin. Sony better get their **** together or I feel they will NEVER be the same. The way thing’s are going, I am starting to wonder if they deserve our trust again.

  • @ MiKaLo80 I have all 3 systems as well and live is not better than PSN by any means. Both systems have their good points and paying for Live is just not one of the Xbox 360’s good features, I am sorry but I refuse to pay for something I can get for free on my PC and my PS3. Microsoft is making money for absolutely nothing, by the way Xbox live has been hacked on several occasions and people have had accounts stolen here is a link to prove it. http://www.zdnet.com/blog/security/xbox-live-hacked-accounts-stolen/131 Stop being such a fan boy people pay for Xbox live and it still gets hacked Microsoft just did a firmware upgrade on it’s system to stop people from pirating games I am sure this will get the same attention from the people that attacked Sony.
