UPDATED: PlayStation Network Scheduled Maintenance Today

UPDATE: The maintenance has been completed, and Account Management and other affected functions are once again accessible. Thanks, as always, for your patience.

PlayStation Network is scheduled to undergo maintenance today, from about 8am until approximately 5pm Pacific time. During this time, registration and Account Management will be inaccessible, including the password reset process. While some users may experience difficulty signing in to PSN, the majority of consumers will be able to play online as well as sign in to external sites that require PSN authentication (like this one).

For those asking about the PlayStation Store, we’re still targeting restoration of all services by the end of this month. Contrary to reports, the Store will not be publishing today.

Stay tuned to the PlayStation Twitter feed for updates and a notice when maintenance has concluded.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

  • So in other words, you guys are waiting for the end of the fiscal year. Nice. Thanks for dispelling the rumors about today also. I’ve bought 3 PS3’s in the last few years, 2 PS2’s and god knows how many games for each. After this many years of dedicated service, I am apalled that this is your best response. I appreciate the update and all, but this is rediculous. What about the people that have PSN cards due to expire? Will we get compensation if they do? NOT trying to be a downer, just been waiting for the store to buy some things and I am really afraid the longer it takes, the better my chances of losing the money. Also, I was wondering if, when the store is ready, if you’ll release it all at once, or if you are still planning to release it sequential according to the date is was suppose to come out?

  • Another maintenance?!?! What were you doing during the whole month that the system was down? Couldn’t you have done this maintenance then?! Frustrating… Btw, ONLINE GAMING IS NOT WORKING!!!!!!!

  • @Jeff
When can we expect the blog to post information on the PSP remaster series for PS3? For instance titles we can expect? or whether or not Square Enix plans on bringing its best to the PS3?

  • thx sony ur doing a good job(:

  • more downtime “sigh” oh well.

  • i want free first strike!!!!!!

  • So is the maintance why home is not working?

  • @AK-69er

    your are an idiot

  • @131 “just give it a few days” you sound just like the PR reps for sony. LOL its been 30 plus days I think i have a right to complain. those that you feel other wise are just blinded and have no idea what good business practice means.

  • Glad I own a Xbox 360 as well enjoyed playing it while PSN is down. Do you trust Sony it seems a lot of people do. Foolish people out their.

Off to play the Xbox 360

  • @ozzy23
yes everytime maintinence is going thru at sony home and everything usually end up down sometimes but with all of this going on and the patches as well as security they want to make SURE it is in working order and that something like this i hope wont happen again.

  • Part 1

I’m a loyal customer and I haven’t felt let down (for the most) as most of you say.

While I can agree that lots of customer support and people lke Patrick Seybold haven’t really been making things easier, especially Mr. Seybold, I’ve got to say, this 8 hour maintenance should have been expected by all of you sooner or later if you wanted your beloved PS Store back up. Plus they said and I quote “While some users may experience difficulty signing in to PSN, the majority of consumers will be able to play online as well as sign in to external sites that require PSN authentication (like this one).” Do you see that? The majority of consumers will be able to play online! If you’re one of thse few who can’t just keep trying to log in. It’s not really a big deal, now is it?

Look guys, we as the consumers should be able to keep our cool, when people throw their arms in the air and freak you give exactly what the hackers want.

  • Part 2

And that is attention that Sony is failing you. And while I can agree they haven’t been meeting up to all of our expectations and there is a great deal that is laughable, frustration, irritationg, etc, you gus have to remember that they’re only human too. Sony is the machine, Sony’s workers can overload too.

To those who are tired of waiting, so am I, I’m sure the majority of us are, but the PS Store can come back when it needs to. Do you want it to be back now or do you want to know your stuff will be safer then what it clearly wasn’t?

You people need to calm down, act like the adults or young adults you probably are, and realise that as big as it is, it’s also not that big. 5PM PST, that’s what, 8PM tonight or us Easterners? Not even a big deal. Just have a relaxing Tuesday and recharge yourselves a bit more for some long needed gaming.

Good luck Sony, I can’t wait to get the store back, but I will most certainly do so if I must. : )

  • ME TOO JUST GIVE ME MY DOWNLOAD LIST PLEASE!!!

  • sony has lost 170 million dollars according to reports. you think they would want the store up to start putting a dent in there losses.

  • Dear Sony,

First off I love the PSN store, I love DD content, at least I did until all this happened. I love that I didn’t have to take all these games with me when I move or travel because they were accessible on the store, and sure enough during the outage the worst case scenario happened, my PS3 HD died and I had to install a new one and re-download all of my bought and paid for games DLC and so forth..this was during the week of the outage.

Imagine if a major book publisher walked into your home and confiscated your bookshelves full of all the books you bought and love over the years, some which you are still reading.. while they rework some legal fine print. If they just came in and took what you paid for and you can’t access it. That is essentiall how this outage has made me feel.

Sure you may already have heard this 1000 times, sure there are some middle management jerk in your offices who is saying “ignore these, collateral damage” but I will post this anyway. I hope that you care about each and every one of your PAYING customers.

I hope it is working soon, I am trying to be very patient while you hold all of my purchased content hostage.

  • i can wait

  • The problem is that their download service seems to be inextricably linked to their payments system, which is unnecessary, and basically, poor service implementation (and something that they don’t seem to be working on changing).

It’s bad implementation because they’re tying a high-risk service (payments/commerce) – one that is bound to experience downtimes/attacks due to its very nature with a service that is critical to gaming (downloads). There’s no reason it has to be this way – downloads should be linked directly to PSN accounts, without having to return to confer with the payments service once payments (if any) are processed.

Without this kind of separation, you get the mess we’re seeing today, i.e. irredeemable codes, passes. Games and DLC purchased legitimately by users in the past cannot be retrieved to any new consoles.

Hopefully someone at Sony in a position to actually change these essential underlying problems is listening – it would be a shame to rebuild the entire service only to see them persist.

  • with sony and there use of there servers no one actually has a reason to argue the service is free and on top of that they made it perfectly clear that ppl will be compensated for services losed.

  • That was like a punch to the kidney.

  • All these people are complaining for pretty much nothing. Companies and corporations are going to have flaws. I can’t believe how people are reacting to this. The guys at Sony are trying their hardest to restore services. Complaining isn’t going to make things any faster. Thank them for putting so much effort into this.

  • i agree with 211

  • dpk5e7 … thats so true. anyways, i dont get why ppl are still asking if the store will be up later today.. wtffff did you not read or just dont know how to ? sony clearly said nott today. by the end of this month or may be some time between. another thing, i realy hope PSN cards dont expire. i have a 20$ card the same day psn went down. also, i aggree the rumors of it being up today should have ben addressed. third party sites and there false info can suckk it dry.

  • @ 209 compensated by giving us old games that most sony owners have already or have played LOL.

  • It’s NOT up in Montreal, and yesterday I caught one apparent glitcher/ hacker/ lag switcher named “Amusement blablabla something” in game {SOCOM} along with 15 other players who noticed it and mentioned it to me before I even noticed it….and Saturday night found one apparent joker/hacker named “SYNPER_-_-lOl” in my email.

    Just FYI.

The Network is NOT secure yet…IMO…and has a long long way to go!!!

Found out direct from SONY yesterday that the DOWNLAODABLE content ability we are awaiting to have again, will not be activated…PERIOD…until the 31st of May at the earliest.

Should be able to log back in as Sony stated at end of todays’ scheduled maintenance…so sometime around 2 PM est…will let ya’ll know if that turns out… NOT be the case.

  • i do appreciate the info and though I knew that it was about 90% likely that the store wouldn’t be up today…i am still a little sad :(

hopefully you guys will get it up soon and it will be one massive update…i want my DW7 school outfits :D oh and infamous would be cool too ;)

  • @ 212 Thank them for mismanaging their servers and then hiring “top security firms” that let them be hacked ?

  • 2 things I hope to see after this complete and utter mess that Sony got themselves into:

    1. Less DLC codes budled with new games. Just put the “DLC” on the disc. We are using Blu-Ray not a DVD like some other system. I’ve been waiting quite awhile to get the Cerberus Network with the Comic that describes the prequel to Mass Effect 2.

    2. People will “buy” Wipeout and give a larger vocal audience as to how the commercials during loading screens completely break the immersive experience. This was pushed out on a patch a few months ago. After seeing the same blu-ray commercials after between every race, I had to call it quits. I wouldn’t mind dynamic ads on a billboards like in Burnout. After seeing ads for “Machete” over 10 times, I haven’t returned to Wipeout (which BTW _was_ a fantastic game).

  • #23 @SOUL-ASYLUM Really? get a life, loser. Your getting pissed because…i don’t even know. PSN is up, and your still whining. When the PS store comes up, you’ll still have something to b**** about. Go f*** yourself.

  • Can’t access the store, can’t play Dirt 3 online due to a code, possibility of PSN gift cards expiring… so many satisfied customers, Sony.

    You suck.

  • @214 and yet again i state be lucky your getting anything at all. remember sony and there servers are free to use they again dont have to give us anything read the eola clearly.

  • @219 Good point!

  • alrighty then

  • @ 206

Citrean, I understand you’re upset just like everyone else, heck I almost renewed my PS Plus a day before the servers were taken down, lucky me. But you’re going to be given back the time you’ve been taken away, I hope you know that. And that’s what a maintenance like this is for, to help get the PS Store and Sony back on to the road of recovery. Do you honestly believe they would want us all ot be offline and locked out from being able to give them our hard earned money?

    Patience is key.

  • @190 Impatient?

no impatient would be being told you were gonna go on a trip next weekend but something happens and it gets delayed til the following weekend or the weekend after that and you having a fit because you cant wait a mere 1-2 weeks.. THAT would be impatient..

However the store has been down since April 20th.. it is now May 24th and its still not up, the boundaries or patience were crossed a LONG time ago.

  • WoW does no one read at all ?

“For those asking about the PlayStation Store, we’re still targeting restoration of all services by the end of this month. Contrary to reports, the Store will not be publishing today.”

tons of people posting here asking if the store is going to be up today . really people ? really?

  • hey guys i read the article over and over again and found out that publishing means updating. so between the hours of 8am-5pm they will be working on the psn store. so 6pm we should be able to access the psn store. publishing just means too add new games. so when they say we will not be publshing it. it means they will not be updating it.

  • the PSN community is a joke.
U ask for an update, sony gives u an update, but guess what the response is? WE WANT IT FIXED NOW!!!!!

U ask for a gift or replacement of some sort to replace the time lost with PSN, sony introduces the “Welcome Back” program. But guess what the response is? WE WANT MORE!!! THIS ISNT ENOUGH!! THIS ISNT WHAT I WANT!!

My point is that the consumers are impossible to please, and when i say impossible, i mean it.
    People will never be pleased.

I respect sony for even putting in the effort to please such a crowd . Thumbs up to you Sony i give u my respect.
So guys, my message to you is that they are putting in the bloody effort to get things done as soon as possible, so be appreciative and stop being a troll or [DELETED] about every thing they do. THEY ARE TRYING TO PLEASE YOU!!

its no wonder they try to leave as little updates about the situation as possible, its because of the UNREASONABLE negative response they get for being NICE.
But ofcourse this doesnt apply to everyone, ive noticed there are some people who understand what kind of [DELETED] sony is currently facing right now.

  • @217 Sony has no say on if DLC codes are packaged with games. That goes to the game companies themselves, not Sony. -_-

  • XBOX 360 FTW!

  • TjSypheR, maybe they just added that after they read all the comments? Too bad I was hoping the store was up or at least the option to download our games and redeem codes.

  • peace2223 did u use online dictionary ? not tryn to be an ass. itl be great if some how you was right and accurate.

  • @223 Gwailoh

Sure, I agree with you 100% and I have been patient and will continue to be. I simply want to tell Sony how this has effected me, and Im sure it effects everyone differently.

It’s a shame for everyone effected.

  • @231 Citrean

    Understood. : )

(And I honestly can’t blame you for telling them, sadly it doesn’t look like it’s going to do much though) :(

  • Unlike the vast majority of humanity, I can understand maintenance and the fact that the store is being rebuild as well. The latest hack had people stealing PSN titles right off the store. I was not surprised to see that Sony was going to leave it down. We just need to be patience as they restore PSN to it’s glory then we can look forward to the awesome news we are going to get this E3 and the games releasing this year. To the people complaining and threatening to leave, see ya! No one will miss you. Playstation loyalist will be laughing when they are playing all the great exclusives coming out this year and next year. Thanks for all the hard work Sony and spending 171m to get PSN secure again.

  • @ 233Ethereal
    cant agree with you more.

  • phew!i tought i wouldnt be able to play online!

  • @230

i was trying to help retard

  • Do the cards have an expiry date?

You must redeem the cards within 12 months of purchase. Once redeemed, funds will remain in your PlayStation Network wallet until spent.

Found in the playstaytion community forums in the FAQ. so hopefully.
