UPDATED: PlayStation Network Scheduled Maintenance Today

UPDATE: The maintenance has been completed, and Account Management and other affected functions are once again accessible. Thanks, as always, for your patience.

PlayStation Network is scheduled to undergo maintenance today, from about 8am until approximately 5pm Pacific time. During this time, registration and Account Management will be inaccessible, including the password reset process. While some users may experience difficulty signing in to PSN, the majority of consumers will be able to play online as well as sign in to external sites that require PSN authentication (like this one).

For those asking about the PlayStation Store, we’re still targeting restoration of all services by the end of this month. Contrary to reports, the Store will not be publishing today.

Stay tuned to the PlayStation Twitter feed for updates and a notice when maintenance has concluded.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

  • @ Gwailoh That’s the problem. It doesn’t do any good. I’ve been following these blogs pretty closely the last few weeks, and I see the same posts from different people. Either they can’t reset their passwords (although I didn’t have a problem) and that they can’t access the dlc content they’ve already purchased. And it seems for every 200 complaints about a service, only 1 is addressed, and its usually pretty vague. ” For those asking about the PlayStation Store, we’re still targeting restoration of all services by the end of this month. Contrary to reports, the Store will not be publishing today.” They don’t even confirm if it will be back the 31st. Just “targeted”

  • at first I was ok with all this… but now ist’s getting a lil’ frustrating….. -_- *sigh*

  • I can wait, my only problem is I got Modnation racers for my birthday, and it had the “redeem this code and you get sackboy” thing. It says it expires on May 25, I hope that they push that expiration date back.

  • @237
    Bubaroo
    i also agree with

  • @225 i dont see anywhere in this comments where ppl are actually asking if the store will be up today

@226 if publishing means not updating today (maybe sony used teh word wrong)w hy would they mention still having the end of teh month as a target for full restoration then? instead of just saying “the store will be back up today but nothing new will be on it.” Unless youre trying to say sue itll be back up but we wont get anything new on it until apossibly teh end of the month?

great optimism but Im sure its just a case of sony using the wrong words

  • @199 sony said nothing about having the store up today. just be glad you can play online and enjoy your games that way. I myself herd the same rummer on other sites and thats just what it was “A RUMMER”. So dont go getting your panties in a bunch. It aint even the end of the month yet. Sony has said themselves that thay where trying to get everything up and running BY THE 31ST. So just chill out

  • What’s the news on code redemptions…. my code expires june 14th…. the code’s been good for a month and some change but, I’ve been unable to claim it…

tons of people posting here asking if the store is going to be up today . really people ? really?”

    ——————————-

that’s exactly right and I agree with him, do not understand for the life of me how people can make completely unfounded and rediculous comments like some people here have when the truth is written right in front of their faces, SONY is doing the best they can, that’s all there is to it, regardless of who says what, the truth is the truth.

And Sony has in fact been doing a much better job of keeping us informed.

example, I tried to log in today, could not, did a google search for “Playstation Network Down” AND IMMEDIATELY FOUND THE blog UPDATE HERE THAT CLEARLY SAYS IT LIKE IT IS.

“WHAT PART OF…. “THE STORE’S DLC ABILITIES WILL NOT BE ACTIVATED TILL THE END OF THIS MONTH, AND THE NETWORK IS DOWN TODAY UNTIL 2 PM EST AT LEAST” ARE PEOPLE HAVING A HARD TIME UNDERSTANDING EXACTLY?

  • sony will tell you ten minutes before they put it up… not a moment sooner… they are marketing now and have no desire to return what i have lost with their update… thanks sony for showing me the way to xbox720 no ps4 in my future…

  • I hope the people who hacked Sony get caught. I really do.

  • I agree with everyone that is complaining about the store, but I kinda agree. I mean I know it takes a while for all facets to get in check and to make sure they’re secure but I would have almost rather seen them wait and bring the whole thing up including the store at the same time. My question is “how long is it going to take before the store runs seamlessly again?” I mean I would almost guarantee that once its back up we will have it for a day and it will have to be taken back down again like the network did because of the influx of people buying new content. I don’t see this fiasco finally wrapping up until middle of next month at the earliest. I’m sure there will be many more updates to come. Thanks Legion, I hope you go to prison for this cause if people actually found out who you are you might end up in the morgue

  • their update erased my map packs why is it wrong to want back what i paid for? i play one game and have no add ons i purchased for that game…. why should i not be pissed at sony. i dont want ps+ nor a free game just what i paid for….

  • This has went from something you can pin on hackers to something that is now squarely on the heads of Sony. Any time they mention “PSN” or their network now, it will be seen as a joke or met with an eye roll. It is just one thing after another right now and sooner or later, no one will take them seriously anymore. Consumers and even publishers/developers.

Go ahead and defend a Fortune 500 company all you want, though. Now I wish the Store won’t be up by E3 just so they can get tons of negative publicity. :|

  • holy freakin cow!

  • Was looking forward to the store being up so I could re-download my Killzone 3 Retro map pack that I deleted b/c of the map loop bug before it was fixed. Oh well, as long as I can still play Operations….

  • what a joke,i aint holding out about store coming back by the end of may, because they will change it just like when they said psn was coming back and it didnt we had to wait even longer, time for a change i think.just hope they bring it back when they say they are going to before its to late and everyone changes and takes there custom elsewhere.

  • @ 237 Bubaroo

I haven’t used or read the blog since the April 20th shut down, and only now am I fianlly able to log on. I can see why people would want to complain becuase of this, but if people could make it less of complaining and more of patience it would help. Yeah it’s been over 30 days but if you can’t survive that long without going on your PS3s online feature you never would of survive out of your house I assume.

I just wish people weren’t making it harder for Sony and harder for the rest of us.

Yeah, we know, lots of their customer support is [insert lots of bad words here], but there’s not much we can do, especially at such a fragile time, without putting all of PSN is higher jeopardy.

  • This is getting old.

  • j-towne421 how did it erase your maps?it didnt erase mine.are you using a different psn account?

  • ive got downloadable games i bought just before the system went down and got several games that i had reserved that came out during the outage that has DLC’s that i cant get so i’ve paid for half of games sony ya’ll need to get your stuff straight immediately you’ve cost me and so many more money and patience. Get It Done

  • Can’t all you people with codes to redeem (like the guy with sackboy modnation DLC) redeem them through the account settings?

  • Store coming back?? That will be great.
Oh, and please make Japan PSN up too.

  • your prices are way to over priced for us to go thru this BS granted we’re stuck having to pay for them but it’s very bad business

  • @256 and you think this whole ordeal hasn’t cost sony anything at all?

Their losses, i greatly assume, enormously outweigh what ever meager amount of chump change you spent.

  • @ 257 I tried but, no luck…

  • So the store won’t be up today? Somehow I kinda saw this happening. Oh well at least I can still play online so I’m good. But I do hope the store comes up soon. I want to use that free month of PlayStation plus so I can get as much free stuff as I can.

  • I own both systems 360 and ps3, i bought my ps3 a couple months back, i would have to say with everything thats been going on, i would have to say its a horrible first impression

  • @256
sony has lost millions and you lost how much compared to them?

  • Why is the store down anyways?

  • @260 big companies are very arrogant they had many opportunities to make sure our info and there servers were secure they didnt do it and we as customers are paying the real price. without us there is no Them think about That

  • To anyone trying to redeem their codes, after Playstation Network is out of maintenance, try using http://us.playstation.com/ and long in through that, go to account settings and redeem codes, hopefully that will work.

  • @262 and loose it when your free month expires.

  • @264 we’ll maybe you have money to throw away but the rest of us do not

  • First off, thanks for the update. The closer to finish the better.
Second, I find that a lot of people that I’ve read posts from don’t know what they are talking about dealing with the security of the network and all that fun stuff. In order for a network to check its security it must test it in order to make sure there are no major flaws/loop holes. Those sort of things takes time.
Third, all the people that have been posting complaining about the wait for the PS Store need to relax and stop worrying about when it will come up. You should only complain if they don’t have it up by May 31 (their own set deadline).

Keep it up Sony and thanks for the updates.

  • @269

seminole8252, if you don’t have money to throw around you shouldn’t of spend a few hundred dollars on a Playstation 3.

  • Well that’s just crap news no matter how you look @ it.

Seriously, you really need to get the store back up. I could give two poots about an update that feels like it does nothing…What are you people thinking putting up junk like this in these situations…

You need a “Playstation Network Status Blog” so you can stop pretending this site has to cover the current game news OR exactly whats happening with this dagON outage. I swear you can handle both….

  • @seminole8252

    exactly

  • Hopefully PS store back this weekend or gona turn 360 on and PS3 off for good…..

  • wow i thought the ps store would be up today got my hopes high for nothing, thanks sony

  • we as consumers expect to get what we paid for. Not this kinda of nonsense, i get better customer service at Mc donalds

  • @264 Let’s not forget they also lost over a billion due to the earthquake in Japan.

  • @271

This update will be one of the many to come to getting the PS Store back up. Why can’t you people understand this?

  • Unbelievable. At this rate we’ll have a new Playstation system and the triumphant return of PSN for the next gen. Worst of all are these obedient sheep who simply say Thank You to Sony and say “be patient” when this ridiculous circus has carried on for more than a month now. You know despite its troubles and notoriously crappy customer service record, Microsoft is laughing it up right now. I don’t even play online much and usually just download games and demos, but the point is that Sony keeps coughing up these excuses and people eat ’em up like cookies. Sony will not get its act together if their customers act like sheep and simply shrug when the company they support acts so inept.

  • @273 To get what we paid for? Lol PSN is free.

  • @275

Another excellent point, it’s only been a few months and the earhquake did only happen what, a month or so after the servers went down?

  • thanks for the heads up. i’ll try it right now online and if it lags too much or slows down, then i’ll just go to the mall or hangout with frinds something everyone should do instead of giving these bloggers a bad time…

  • Lol oops, before not after.

  • @268
and who says that i buy anything from the store on a regular basis all im saying is sony has lost millions by getting hacked, resetting there network AND giving us free stuff. If you don’t comprehend that then i realy dont know what to tell you other then wate till the 31st when sony said thay would have everything up and running again then you will have everything that you have ever bought back. So just chill out.

  • @269 it’s not the point of if i have enough money to throw around i do i work very hard for everything i earn i pay bills and taxes and i believe we as the ppl who keep sony going should be respected more than this i’ve been loyal since day one but i do know what good customer service is and this isnt it

  • To Sony loyalists

DON’T TELL US WE CAN’T BE UPSET!!
