Starting today, PlayStation Network and Qriocity account holders in the United States can begin the enrollment process for the identity theft protection program by visiting http://us.playstation.com/news/consumeralerts/identity-theft-protection/. We are also notifying customers of the enrollment landing page via email, which you will receive in your inbox this week.
As previously announced, Sony Computer Entertainment and Sony Network Entertainment have made arrangements with Debix to offer the AllClear ID PLUS identity theft protection program to PlayStation Network and Qriocity customers who are concerned about identity theft following the criminal cyber attack on the network. AllClear ID PLUS is a premium identity protection service that uses advanced technology to deliver alerts to help protect you from identity theft. The service also provides identity theft insurance coverage and hands-on help from expert fraud investigators. Sony has arranged, at no charge to eligible PlayStation Network and Qriocity account holders, for twelve months of this service to be provided by Debix to those who choose to enroll.
In order to be eligible, account holders must be residents of the United States with active accounts as of April 20, 2011.
Screwattack said that one company found a work around for it but another said it can’t be done. That doesn’t make sense. You would think they could figure out a way around the codes.
A way around codes is for developers to stop forcing us to buy new games, if we want to play it online.
I love how nobody seems to consider that this also affects Sony. They are losing a ton of money not having the store open. It doesnt benefit them at all to keep it shut down. They will open it as soon as it’s ready. I bet for each child whining here,there is a parent that is appreciative that Sony is making sure everything is in place,and working,before they put the store back up. The security is much more important than downloading a new game or redeeming credits IMO.
Yeah I understand how it effects them and the developers. One stated they had lost close to a million if not more with the store being down. I’m just eager to get in and get the games I purchased plus a couple of more. I know I’m not going to use my cc on there though, just the prepaid cards.
News reports about Sony’s financial situation says they have lost 3.8 billion dollars, with a few hundred million lost due to the outage. They also lost money due to the earthquake/nuclear reactor meltdown. Someone on one of these blog posts pointed out that Sony’s fiscal year begins on June 1st, and explained how they can recover the lost revenue, through tax breaks and other loopholes, that mega corporations like Sony have the means to exploit.

I really really want the store to come up because I bought a prestige edition black ops while the network was down and I can’t get the bonus maps… sad face : (
@1079 asking for a set date is not out of the question when the answers that are given are too vague as it is. They could even give a date range, saying “around the end of the month” is the same as asking when your doctors appointment is scheduled for and the only clue they give you is “it is today”, that is when you end up sitting in the waiting room since the office opens only to find out you are the last appointment of the day. (I am merely analogizing not comparing physical health to gaming.)
As far as the developers they ARE going to lose the money. If you are reading the whole thread, and similar others on other gaming forums, you will find a healthy percentage of players that have “jumped ship” and defected to Microsoft. These are losses that are going to be felt on the Sony and vendors end of the deal.
@1153 they have been advertising on the XMB for game releases on the PSN and other special offers that were supposed to happen during the outage and still there was no access to the services so I don’t believe that what they are saying actually means that the store will be up just that if it were those product would be available on those days…

If they get the store up by the 31st, they can begin trying to recover what they’ve lost. Even though it could be years before the recoup the money lost.

EA has announced that the upcoming downloadable content for Dead Space 2, dubbed Outbreak Map Pack, will be releasing for free on both the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Marketplace.
The Outbreak Map Pack will include two new levels called The Academy and The Concourse. The Academy will see you face off against your foes in the schools of The Sprawl, while The Concourse will see you fight in The Sprawl’s shopping centre.
The content will be made available on the 31st of May on Xbox Live Marketplace, while PlayStation 3 owners will have to wait until the 3rd of June

I cannot understand why the insist on doing multi day updates. Why can’t they just have all the content that has been missed up, when the store relaunches.
Besides we’ll be waiting longer anyway once the store is open. Everyone rushing to get missed content, and their free stuff are going to overload it and shut it down.

They said they would have it restored “by the end of the month” but I’m guessing it’s either going to be on May 31st, or June 3rd. Either way, they should have just told us they can’t give us any sort of time frame so we wouldn’t have to keep checking every day.
The funny thing is, it might be ready right now, but they wouldn’t open the store on any day of the week other than a Tuesday or Friday, so that they will be going by the bi-weekly update.
And no, I don’t consider May 31st to be in keeping with “by the end of the month”. I consider that to be “at the very end of the month” because on May 31st.. well.. there is no “by the end of the month”. It’s already here. xP

That’s why I’m glad I bought Legend of Mana and Xenogears before the outage. I barely noticed it really. Two free games and tons of free stuff is my bonus for being patient. It’s amazing that people are so addicted to services that when they’re taken away, people go crazy over it.
