The official PS3 Wireless Stereo Headset will be available for $99.99 (MSRP) at retailers nationwide this September. Many more of your favorite franchises, such as Killzone and Gran Turismo, were also designed for surround sound audio. Featuring 7.1 virtual surround sound, the Wireless Stereo Headset lets you hear all the minor in-game audio clues clearly, whether you are in a firefight in a first-person shooter game or racing for the checkered flag.

I am firmly convinced some people got out of bed just to gripe about the PSN store.. not because they actually care.. but, just because, they enjoy annoying everyone else.

Such people are called “Trolls” they usually inhabit the area under bridges and surprise goats however, every so often, they find their way to a keyboard and mouse and get on the interwebs.

  • if this match or even compare to Turtle Beaches then im in.

  • Cool!!! I tried the PS3 bluetooth but it didn’t include tv sound. So I bought a different “wired” headset that is “designed” for PS3, which I’ve found to be too amplified, notwithstanding the “wired” thing, the chat was kind of obnoxious due to setup, feedback, and the amplification. Finally I turned the chat feature off. Of course, I prefer PS3 for my PS3 due to the connectivity. I guess the wired pair will just have to do unitil September, and I have another welcome Sony PS3 innovation to look forward to.

    Good going Sony PS3!

  • @Snoopy_Corleone I would buy some of the more expensive ones but Im not gonna pay for a headset as expensive as the system..If I knew how to make a headset bluetooth I would make my own..Just get a headset from sam ash and then head to radio shack for the mic and wires..You know what Im gettin off in a tiny bit I think I have a new project..

  • WOW!!! I was looking for a pair of headphones and a new mic for playing games, looks like I found the perfect pair and they’re in my price range. I love you, Sony!!! :D

    Good Grief..

IN a world where money speaks louder than anything else.

You would think Sony not putting up the store would send the loudest and clearest message. Has anyone actually stopped to consider the fact that Maybe, just MAYBE Sony is putting YOUR protection as a consumer above their own greedy interest as a company and thats why the psn store isn’t up?

Talk of corporate enslavement? really… by not having their Psn store up so your free to go outside and have a life?

Attenion: all trolls please report back to under the bridge..

  • Very nice. My current over-the-ear bluetooth headset causes my ear to ache after a while. Since it uses a USB dongle, will it be able to pull double duty on my PC, or would a driver would be required?

  • This looks great!

  • How long will the battery last?

  • Hope you like brain tumors. Hey Sony, why not make that your “I’m sorry we pissed off the wrong people, didn’t update any of our server software and exposed your personal financial information, please don’t sue us” gifts instead of 2-4 year old software that one is buying anymore anyway?

That reminds me, I have to call Sony..,

  • SONY has some good quality headphones/ headsets… I’m looking forward to trying this ones! They look sexy!! :P

    @mykallin

I completely understand your point of view. I am not trying to force my opinion on everyone however, I got interested in audio a while back when I noticed just how much it can help in game…

Then I began reading about how headsets were a ripoff and how there is so much more to be gotten from headphones and I was curious.. My curiosity cost me between two different headsets about 300$ now..

Considering the MSRP on one set is 170$ and I paid 80$ for it. Another headset is 350$ and I paid 170$ for it and my sound card was 50$ and I paid 25$ for it….

I am really at least to some degree coming out a head however, if your not interested in music it does become a moot point.

However, its a double edged sword.. higher quality audio is expensive… and you can’t really “Go back” from hearing it…

  • nice cant wait for the price to drop below $75. $99 is just to much or id get it in sept. hopefully in a year or so. good job sony keep coming up with the good ideas.

  • That’s pretty cool for people without surround sound systems! Unfortunately I just got a surround sound system this year so this headset is not for me. I would definitely recommend it to a friend though!

  • 7.1 virtual surround sound sweet!

  • Get a chuckle out of all the sheep who say they’re “definitely going to buy these” when they have no idea how good they’ll sound.

  • I think I’ll wait till PS4 for the next version of this headset. I don’t like dongles. I like them even less when I have to daisy chain them on the front of my console *hint*rear USB on PS4 would be appreciated for USB Hubs*hint*. I’m also counting on a better BlueTooth standard to allow this to be done without using a USB port.

Also a better late than never I guess on this headset.

  • You’re going to make me wait until September for these? I want to get them now!

  • Almost the idea I put on the blog.share so I am a bit interested.

  • @Snoopy_Corleone
The quality of sound is based on knowing what the limits of the speakers you are using are and alowwing them to work side by side to get the clearest sound like most headsets like this one it is most likely 40mm speakers with a limit of maybe only 50watts so if you use 2 and only allow 40watts go through them each you get a crisp sound instead of being distorted..

  • The_Annihilator

Do you hear that sound? It’s me asking when the PS Store is coming back ? >_>

  • I am definitely getting this. I can enjoy my games without disturbing the neighbors

  • Do these do intelligent channel/frequency management? I.E.: can you have two sets plugged into the same PS3 and have them work when playing split-screen with a friend?

  • I don’t even know what to say exactly, I’m really excited for this product!! Can we get some more details on the exact specifications?

  • That would be a Great Welcome Back Package. Gimme a coupon for it please. I’ll be your friend.

  • if I didn’t just recently get a new PS3 bluetooth headset I might have considered this, but they looks pretty nice!

  • I already have the turtle beach px21 headset but this looks beast

  • Snoopy_Corleone

    @mykallin

There is a lot that goes into headphones and I don’t think it can really be boiled down into a specific formula..

I mean for example there are things like foobar + wasapi which will give you a much clearer and fuller sound especially compared to itunes or windows media player.

When discussing sound quality you have a lot of issues like Open vs Closed back, bass response, what kind of drivers are being used on your comp/ps3, what the bitrate of the actual song/sound your listening to is..

There is a lot of science that goes into sound. I am not pretending to be an expert only saying that there is a whole lot that goes into it..

  • Dear santa….

Or i gotta save some money haha xd

  • lets just wait till the 31st to see its what they said was TARGETED for if they miss it than go ahead scream away but to scream at them now is kind of unproductive they gave you a target let them get to the target first

  • Nice set of wireless headphones but just got a wired pair of Tritton’s not too long ago and they are ge for me.

  • Awesome! This looks really great. I never play multiplayer games, but I did buy a Turtle Beach PX-21 when I was playing a lot of DCUO. I now use it for my sound when my roommate is sleeping. I’m not sure I’m willing to dump $100 on this, but it does look great and is perfect for anybody who doesn’t have one yet. I really like the fact that it’s wireless and has virtual surround sound. The PX-21 doesn’t have that..

    Keep it up Sony!

  • @Snoopy blah blah blah, yes we may be Trolls, but you are a SONY SCROTUM JOCKEY, not really impressed. Maybe instead of defending SONY, you should realiz how they are just trying to keep gamers under their thumbs.@ MUNCHEE718. I agree totally, I will stand up for the little guy thats getting screwed by the CORPORATION. Sony is ridiculous, I hope they do lose a lot of money, maybe when they are bankrupt they will realize that they shouldn’t treat the people that actually buy their crap like pions

  • No mention of wheither or not they are rechargeble and come with a charging dock of some kind, my guess is that is sold seperately, and if that’s the case forget it.

I’ve had a few wireless headsets over the years, and they typically don’t have much bass and go dead relatively quick, total battery hogs if they do not have their own charge dock.

Needless to say i’m back to wired sets, this one looks appealing and i’d be willing to pay $99 for it, but only if they manage to have some bass and come with a recharge dock/cord/something.

  • SOLD!

  • better than those cheap turtle beach

  • @Snoopy_Corleone
Yeah it has more more to it..But as long as the quality of the sound going in is good it boils down to the control of everything “bass, treble, distortion” I have been into music for awhile I have set up alot of speakers attached to a slave so I know a descent amount of how everything works

  • so if it is crap why bother asking bout the store?

  • Finally a wireless headset i can afford.

  • I might get these. Ill have to check them out in the store when they get released.

  • But can I hear the sound from my game, and not just the people talking?

  • @midknight24 Yeah yet here you are still talking on a PlayStation site..Sounds like your a SONY SCROTUM JOCKEY IN A HEADSTAND

  • you can mute the people if you would like and just here the game

  • Bubonic_Plague_

When are Sony going to stop messing around? “virtual 7.1 surround” oh please, I think I’ll stick with my Tritton AXPro thanks all the same!

  • Snoopy_Corleone

    @Midknight24

    Nice.

Are you even thinking about what your posting?

So just so I have YOUR logic straight.. They are keeping gamers under their thumb by losing boatloads of money due to THEIR service being down?

Oh wait! they are suppose to have the network up right now and just give out everyone’s credit card information right? So that way instead of syaing “they are keeping everyone under their thumbs” you can say “OMG SONY LOST MY IDENTITY!”

I’m anxious to know who is getting more screwed over than sony here.. Do you honestly believe a bunch of people who are forced to find something else to do for a month and a half are really getting more screwed over than the company who loses billions of dollars due to a hacker?

I am not defending Sony here.. only trying to bring some logic into the conversation.

  • Can I get one of these instead of whatever thing you’re going to offer me for PSN being down for a month?

  • OMG. I want 2 and I want them now. I have used the Turtle Beach PX21 for years and hate the wires and the price. This is a PS3 must have. Looks sexy. Black on black baby!

  • Snoopy_Corleone

    @mykallin

Fair enough, I’ve become quite interested in audio recently and you sound like you know what your doing.

I wish I knew a bit more about the mechanical side of things, I’m more of a software person sadly.. well not sadly programming will pay good money once I’m out of college lol…

  • Eh, this looks neat, but way too pricey for my taste. I don’t think Sony realizes the majority of its customers have expendable money to spend at any point. Maybe if the price was brought down to 60-80 dollars I could see it being feasible. Also dropping the blue tooth price when this does come out would be nice. I need a replacement ear grip for mine. I just dislike my headset picking up the game and then broadcasting my mic constantly. I don’t like being one of those jerks who mic spam.

  • @snoopy_corleone its a moot point you dont agree with him so you must be a sony scrotum jockey kind of a clueless lot if you ask me
