Do you hear that sound? It’s the sound of the enemy approaching your bunker. Only you’ve heard them way before they’ve even seen you and now your commandos are ready to unload. What’s your advantage? It’s simple – the official PS3 Wireless Stereo Headset – the latest addition to the PlayStation 3 accessories family.

Official Wireless Stereo Headset for PS3Official Wireless Stereo Headset for PS3

The official PS3 Wireless Stereo Headset will be available for $99.99 (MSRP) at retailers nationwide this September. Many more of your favorite franchises, such as Killzone and Gran Turismo, were also designed for surround sound audio. Featuring 7.1 virtual surround sound, the Wireless Stereo Headset lets you hear all the minor in-game audio clues clearly, whether you are in a firefight in a first-person shooter game or racing for the checkered flag.

Designed with comfort in mind for hours of gameplay, it’s the perfect addition to your PlayStation experience. Connecting the Wireless Stereo Headset with PS3 is made easy with the included USB Wireless Adapter. Precise volume controls and accessible microphone mute make it so you never have to interrupt gameplay to fumble for buttons. You can easily stay informed about battery status, sound controls, etc. with on-screen headset status updates. On top of that, the Wireless Stereo Headset also offers the highest quality voice chat for crystal clear online conversations. The mic is retractable so you can put it away if you just want to listen to music or play a single player game.

We’re very excited to be able to offer you yet another new way to get immersed in the game. Be sure to keep checking the Blog for more information soon.

+ Omeguis on May 27th, 2011 at 9:40 am said:

FINALLY! I’ve been waiting for something like this. Sony in Argentina should have better prices though, what is $99 in USA is aprox $400 in Argentina :S I’ll try to buy it online as soon as it comes out :)

Y’know, some word or actual time frame of when the store will be back up would be nice. All we get is “by the end of the month”. Apparently some Mortal Kombat DLC is supposed to be coming in a week and a half, and it would be a real shame if we ps3 owners got shafted on that alongside the CoD BO map packs.

+ Woo-Hoo-1 on May 27th, 2011 at 9:40 am said:

I just might pick those up when they come out. Unless I grab some Logitech f540’s first. Yes, the f540’s aren’t surround. But I’m not sure I can wait until September.

It would also be nice to see some official tech reviews. I won’t spend over $50 on anything unless it has consistent above average reviews.

Those are beautiful, elite headset for elite gamers.

@185 Yea but the TRITTON AX Pro is almost 200 bucks!!!!!!!!! This one is half that.

+ Cannibasowns on May 27th, 2011 at 9:41 am said:

@197 they most likely are, probably the reason for the USB port on the set. I wouldnt really see a point in 100 dollar headset if its not able to be used globally with my laptop.

+ Boxster17 on May 27th, 2011 at 9:41 am said:

May pass my bluetooth headset on to a friend and pick this up for myself. Given I work a late shift a lot of my gaming time is done in the middle of the night this might be just what I was looking for.

+ painjf1_24 on May 27th, 2011 at 9:42 am said:

awesome design I love it, great job Playstation I will buy one of them

+ soulreaver182 on May 27th, 2011 at 9:42 am said:

Also, those headsets are very nice, though I’m more than happy with my Tritton’s. Hope this sells well!

+ surfthelast1 on May 27th, 2011 at 9:45 am said:

They don’t sell those on the PSN Store do they? bwahahaha (if so were in trouble) haha

+ Woo-Hoo-1 on May 27th, 2011 at 9:47 am said:

Hmmm…just noticed that the product details states: “Surround Sound does not work with Blu-ray Disc movies”. And “Surround sound on the PS3™ requires system software version 3.70 or later.” So there has to be a big firmware update before they’ll work and even though gaming offers Surround Sound, Blu-ray movies won’t? I guess I’ll definitely be keeping my options open.

+ yasnas on May 27th, 2011 at 9:48 am said:

will it be shipping worldwide or just USA?

+ Xuchilbara on May 27th, 2011 at 9:49 am said:

The one thing piece of info that I was looking for is the one piece of information that is missing about this headset.

Does this headset support individual Chat Volume & Videogame Audio controls? If it doesn’t then turtle beach is still offer the best solution.

I would like to see another official SONY headset for the PS3 but that supports blutooth.

+ GUYVERZERO2 on May 27th, 2011 at 9:50 am said:

Sorry Sony your behind the time. Motorola S10HD surround sound Bluetooth stereo headset. I have had earlier models that were outstanding though. Only missing thing is the mute button. It also has a better ergonomic design. Did I mention sweat proof? It would be awesome if Bose would make one similar.

+ knightmarekid on May 27th, 2011 at 9:53 am said:

Wanna buy it :DD

+ elitescorpion94 on May 27th, 2011 at 9:54 am said:

About time they are saling headsets instead of bluetooths, those things make my ear sore when I am wear them for a long time. Now when someone buys a ps3 it will finally come with a headset just like the xbox360.

+ thezenguy on May 27th, 2011 at 9:54 am said:

nice 7.1 emulation on a wireless headset and 99$ very cost effective compared to more expensive ones i wonder if its gonna use bluetooth or if its gonna come with a radio transmitter for the audio, of course the microphone is gonna use bluetooth, so im hoping the audio will too :D

+ Mosh_Pit on May 27th, 2011 at 9:54 am said:

Already using a P21 with a DSS surround sound (7.1) adapter. Cost me about 150$ 2 years ago. If this one is cheap might get it.

+ kenny-1995 on May 27th, 2011 at 9:55 am said:

good, i was about to buy a headset last month, good thing i didn’t, i’ll get these when they’re out for the uk.

+ ChameleonX on May 27th, 2011 at 9:55 am said:

Very nice. Looks like a possible future purchase. Not too keen on the USB wireless dongle though.

+ VendettaLion on May 27th, 2011 at 9:56 am said:

Well designed indeed. Can’t wait to try out the audio quality.

+ Global_1995 on May 27th, 2011 at 9:56 am said:

Hell yea :D im getting one for sure :D

+ dcaoko on May 27th, 2011 at 9:57 am said:

Wow, wireless 7.1 headset for $99? It looks so smooth and sleek.

I wonder how this compares to Turtle Beach PX5 $200-$250 wireless headset. The PX5 def has a lot of features for the money. I wonder how this compares with a price tag like that. Can’t wait for reviews!

It certainly would help the clutter of wires from my headset and charger cables. Would like to have a wireless headset in time for Uncharted 3!

the 31st will get here that will turn into with in a week. we need a few more days but in the mean time buy these peace of crap ugly headphones off of us…………………… @at snoopy WHAT is it that your doing right know your complaining about us complaining. and no trolls are the ones that go around and start stuff with other people get

+ JuanGuapo on May 27th, 2011 at 10:02 am said:

That looks better than any of the other headsets I’ve seen on the market. While I wish it was Bluetooth, my guess is there are bandwidth issues so they went with a different setup.

$99 MSRP is a pretty good price, too.

+ a7x_RoCk3r on May 27th, 2011 at 10:03 am said:

Wireless????? F*** wireless..I’m not going to recharge, or even change the batteries every day..I’ll stick to the $30 WIRED headset i have now..Works fine..

+ GhostMatter on May 27th, 2011 at 10:04 am said:

INCREDIBLE price! I am impressed. It looks FANTASTIC.

But… I am not primarily a PS3 gamer… I play PC first then Xbox 360 then PS3. I’m sure it won’t work on those platforms… I’ll have to get something higher priced :(

+ AgentValentine on May 27th, 2011 at 10:06 am said:

The wireless turtle beaches I’ve seen are only 99.99 too. :| And seriously, I can’t bring myself to care about anything Sony advertises until the store is “published.” Call me a troll if you want, but…seriously. I don’t care about the free games or the PSN+ or any of that…just want to enter my L.A. Noire codes. Ugh.

+ heckon on May 27th, 2011 at 10:07 am said:

Crap, just paid 200$ for some Tritton that are wired. These should have released earlier damnit.

+ mi33ke on May 27th, 2011 at 10:08 am said:

September!!??!! Why such the long wait? or Why did you post this so early? Why not just annouce this in august? Now I gotta wait months to get this thing. Sheesh!!!

Oh yes, forgot to ask, When is the store coming back up? :D

Wireless for $99? That sounds pretty awesome. Too bad you’re making me buy all these freaking awesome games this year so I can’t afford it!

wow very slick looking.

+ Cannibasowns on May 27th, 2011 at 10:17 am said:

I find it funny that the turtle beach x31 wireless for xbox is 99 usd and has better options and are more stylish and PSN gives us these for same price but with less global options then the turtle beach x31?

+ judalation on May 27th, 2011 at 10:19 am said:

I will wait for a review… but the price is very attractive… will it have the features of a trittion ax pro or turtlrbeach pro? since this is the official mic I expect it to best any other headset on the market for the PS3..

+ Skater_Ricky on May 27th, 2011 at 10:23 am said:

Awesome I’d like me one of theses not sure which is better my surround sound 7.1 or this :)

I like all the people who remark about how they will pick it up if it is cheap. If you’d actually READ the article, you’d see they are gonna be about $100.
To me, I’m not a fan of the giant, wide “legs” that hold the ear piece. For some reason it just makes them look cheap to me. But to each their own I suppose.

+ Cannibasowns on May 27th, 2011 at 10:27 am said:

@ skater from what im seeing there are better products out there for same price with better options features and looks. I dont see why they are so expensive for the features on them but xbox users get a way better quality product for same price from a highly upheld company. Xbox is starting to look better every single blog post PS has been releasing past few days

+ Cannibasowns on May 27th, 2011 at 10:30 am said:

obviously sir you havnt had a chance to try them. I also have some other virtual 7.1 SS headphones i use on my laptop and still find the turtlebeach normal steareo set to have way better sound quality. Bash less with your lack of knowing actual quality products and not just the lables put on them

+ Zurar on May 27th, 2011 at 10:30 am said:

These things won’t beep at you just cause you muted the mic will they? Whoever put that on the bluetooth earpiece was an idiot! Last thing you need when you’re mad at a shooter is something friggin beeping in your ear!

+ dhfhs2 on May 27th, 2011 at 10:32 am said:

100 dollars for simple wireless headphones? Not even surround D:

+ Boobnoob69 on May 27th, 2011 at 10:32 am said:

$99???? I don’t think so. I don’t care how good they are. I’m not paying that much for a pair of headphones.

+ Cannibasowns on May 27th, 2011 at 10:33 am said:

secondly might i ask why your even coming at me for SS that only works while gaming and not globally with blueray and the rest find it quite funny ud sink money into somthing lacking a global use

+ Bigmouthkid on May 27th, 2011 at 10:34 am said:

I want one of those.

+ dhfhs2 on May 27th, 2011 at 10:35 am said:

@Cannibasownss Surround sound for gaming = win. Stereo headphones for gaming = not so win..

@ dhfhz 100 bucks for ugly Looking headset with SS that only works for ps3 games? so your telling me ud buy these just becuase they slightly might improve the global sound quality while ur gaming? Sorry id rather spend the 100bucks on a good set of speakers that i can use for global uses and not only for my PS gaming sorry but i dont buy things that only work for one thing and nothing else Nice try and mocking me tho
