Do you hear that sound? It’s the sound of the enemy approaching your bunker. Only you’ve heard them way before they’ve even seen you and now your commandos are ready to unload. What’s your advantage? It’s simple – the official PS3 Wireless Stereo Headset – the latest addition to the PlayStation 3 accessories family.

Official Wireless Stereo Headset for PS3Official Wireless Stereo Headset for PS3

The official PS3 Wireless Stereo Headset will be available for $99.99 (MSRP) at retailers nationwide this September. Many more of your favorite franchises, such as Killzone and Gran Turismo, were also designed for surround sound audio. Featuring 7.1 virtual surround sound, the Wireless Stereo Headset lets you hear all the minor in-game audio clues clearly, whether you are in a firefight in a first-person shooter game or racing for the checkered flag.

Designed with comfort in mind for hours of gameplay, it’s the perfect addition to your PlayStation experience. Connecting the Wireless Stereo Headset with PS3 is made easy with the included USB Wireless Adapter. Precise volume controls and accessible microphone mute make it so you never have to interrupt gameplay to fumble for buttons. You can easily stay informed about battery status, sound controls, etc. with on-screen headset status updates. On top of that, the Wireless Stereo Headset also offers the highest quality voice chat for crystal clear online conversations. The mic is retractable so you can put it away if you just want to listen to music or play a single player game.

We’re very excited to be able to offer you yet another new way to get immersed in the game. Be sure to keep checking the Blog for more information soon.

…………….They ARE surround, 7.1 at that. 99$ is a really good price for something like this.

Right so everyone is saying Im a troll because I’m taking arguments to SONY over not gving anyone info? Comments must be coming from the actual Trolls. Seriously the death threats and personal attacks are uncalled for, Just because I have the gall to post that Sony has there own personal Scrotum Jockeys? And people are complaining about my language, from where I come from SCROTUM is a medical term not some form of profanity. Before people start reacting maybe they should read a book, learn so new words. And to the AUStin blah blah whoever,no one ever brought up your family but you son, if you feel guilty about that better look into yourself. First off I would let my kids into anything that i first hadn’t checked out. And for someone commenting on my language you sure didn’t worry about the words you said , hopefully your kids didn’t hear you type them SCROTUM JOCKEY

Lol sorry i guess you enjoy wasting money for hardly any real change in sound qualitys just for a couple of video games. Just to revert to lower sound when ur actually trying to use it for real stuff in life Sorry that the rest of the world actually have other things then there PS that might need good sound quality And secondly your still speaking as if its real SS which its not its virtual if ima have surround sound on anything itll be the real deal and not some virtual software change and maybe a slight hardware upgrade HA

These must be your answer to Turtle Beach and other companies right? I guess reviews will tell in due time but I must say….those are ugly.

Now that’s what a headset. The bluetooth thing, while cool, isn’t comfortable in long stretches. This, awesome. Also I can use this while listening to music. I’ll be buying that this September.

+ Cannibasowns on May 27th, 2011 at 10:45 am said:

@cyber The virtual SS only works while gaming as is stated in the product desription

+ bgardner on May 27th, 2011 at 10:46 am said:

@dhfhs2 this is only 7.1 virtual surround sound with stereo speakers. You need 4-5 speakers in each side of the headphones to get real 5.1 on sharkoons X-Tatic Digital and trittons ax pro for that work on the ps3 for now

+ zekececil14 on May 27th, 2011 at 10:47 am said:

Its not even blutooth. It takes a USB wireless adapter. For $99 I waht blutooth .

+ agzander101 on May 27th, 2011 at 10:50 am said:

yes! the reason i didin’t want a turtle beach is because it was wired and too expensive. AWESOME job sony

+ Cannibasowns on May 27th, 2011 at 10:51 am said:

it cracks me up he comes in and comments me about my post yet doesnt even fully know or comprehend the fact that this isnt real SS and is just a small software and maybe a hardware change in some. The only reason i see this even being of quality is maybe the improvements on chat features which i doubt is that much better anyways. Id rather go for legit solid quality that people are willing to stand by and not somthing like this. Secondly do you even remember the crappy quality they offered on there official PS2 headsets they said was the best quality yet easily crapped out within only few mnths of usage. My ps2 headset wont even properly pick up sounds prior to ps3 releases and i had that set less then 4mnth and bought it brand new from stores.

I’ve been looking forward to this for a long time now… I’ll be getting those for sure… but September seems too far…

Too bad about the USB dongle. Since Slim took out most of the USB ports it’s become an issue, particularly for those of us with Move. Maybe someday Sony will have another redesign with at least 1 USB port in the back for Move.

+ Cannibasowns on May 27th, 2011 at 11:15 am said:

I dont have a slim but my PS only has 2 port which i already have filled with other things like my webcam controller charger or Move. Its kinda annoying having to take one off just to speak to people on a game. IMO im better off with my set i already have or use my home stereo for SS and my built in mic on webcam. Just more of a hassle for some slight virtual improvements If really any better quality comes from them (which i doubt is that extremely great)

Wow, these look fantastic! I’ve been looking for something like this! Now I’ll finally be able to have it. Thanks a bunch, Sony!

+ syk1288 on May 27th, 2011 at 11:19 am said:

Hey Anand,

I want to know if two headsets can be used on one PS3 at the same time?

+ syk1288 on May 27th, 2011 at 11:22 am said:

So when is Firmware 3.70 coming out? I see on the Playstation website it says that “* Surround sound on the PS3™ requires system software version 3.70 or later. Surround Sound does not work with Blu-ray Disc movies”.

This clearly means there’s probably a 3.70 already.

+ impalor on May 27th, 2011 at 11:22 am said:

how will they charge? via usb cable or something? also whats the play time/stand-by time? and how will you control the volume?

+ jazzyrider on May 27th, 2011 at 11:27 am said:

Not bad, I still think Trittons beat it, but it looks really nice. I don’t know how comfortably those earmuffs would be on my head tho.

+ The3D-Artist on May 27th, 2011 at 11:32 am said:

Awesome. I would actually pick these up. I wonder if they are Windows compatible also? I would love to use it for conference calls to the home office as well as blasting baddies in a game!

+ Kirkpad on May 27th, 2011 at 11:41 am said:

I’m pretty sure the PS3 can’t output HQ game-audio through bluetooth, hence the USB dongle. If bluetooth headsets could play ALL audio and not just voice chat, don’t you think Sony would have put that in their headset 2.0 that came out a while ago?

+ rstubber on May 27th, 2011 at 11:46 am said:

OMG! I just bought a mic and this come out. Man Thats So JANK!! So Not Pimp Like A Shrimp!! So Not Crunck Like A Skunk!! LOL

I find it ironic that this is reveiled cause i was just tinking about and browsing around online for some new stereo headphones, my freind had just gotten some Sexy, very stylish Tritton headphones so i was like man i need some after playing KZ3 with them on.

Question, Is there going to be any other cosmetic versions of this? they aren’t that sexy haha
Question 2, Are these gonna have 2 separate volumes for Game Audio and Chat Audio?

Hot diggity-dog! Going to be returning my wired Tritton AX Pro’s for sure. Very nice Sony, and a damn long time coming too.

They look pretty cool, I’m totally going to buy them.

+ Boobnoob69 on May 27th, 2011 at 12:18 pm said:

@x-cult I agree with you there. Sony could sell a lot more of these if they would fix their store. Common sense. Fix the store, make more money. Doesn’t take a genius to figure that one out.

For all the ignorant people out there, sound quality does not carry over well with blue tooth. Stop asking for what is simply limited by data transfer rates.

+ SnDin9 on May 27th, 2011 at 12:29 pm said:

If you go to the accessories page you’ll notice you’ll need your PS3 to have version 3.70, hopefully there will be some other surprises within that update not yet released.
