Do you hear that sound? It’s the sound of the enemy approaching your bunker. Only you’ve heard them way before they’ve even seen you and now your commandos are ready to unload. What’s your advantage? It’s simple – the official PS3 Wireless Stereo Headset – the latest addition to the PlayStation 3 accessories family.

Official Wireless Stereo Headset for PS3Official Wireless Stereo Headset for PS3

The official PS3 Wireless Stereo Headset will be available for $99.99 (MSRP) at retailers nationwide this September. Many more of your favorite franchises, such as Killzone and Gran Turismo, were also designed for surround sound audio. Featuring 7.1 virtual surround sound, the Wireless Stereo Headset lets you hear all the minor in-game audio clues clearly, whether you are in a firefight in a first-person shooter game or racing for the checkered flag.

Designed with comfort in mind for hours of gameplay, it’s the perfect addition to your PlayStation experience. Connecting the Wireless Stereo Headset with PS3 is made easy with the included USB Wireless Adapter. Precise volume controls and accessible microphone mute make it so you never have to interrupt gameplay to fumble for buttons. You can easily stay informed about battery status, sound controls, etc. with on-screen headset status updates. On top of that, the Wireless Stereo Headset also offers the highest quality voice chat for crystal clear online conversations. The mic is retractable so you can put it away if you just want to listen to music or play a single player game.

We’re very excited to be able to offer you yet another new way to get immersed in the game. Be sure to keep checking the Blog for more information soon.

Okay first off i changed my hd cause i thought the psn being down would be a good time to do it… so i didnt have a portable drive just lying around to back up all 250 gigs of my stuff. So this buying digital software stuff i will never do again as i cant access my map packs and battle code for like 90 percent of my games. This is unprofessional that i can get my psp stuff but not stuff for my ps3 on the pc i should have access to this stuff at all times store or no store sony has an obligation to provide me with material I own at all times and i will for one not be in favor of buy anything else that i can not have in my hands at all time. This is bad on sonys part, and for one i have lost my trust in buying digital from them in the future

  • BlAcK_Eagle--ABI

    Nice

  • BlackSwampKillah

definitely getting one. almost bought a turtle beach but im glad i waited. the usb dongle doesn’t bother me, i could care less what the front of my ps3 looks like.

  • great im been looking for something like this thanks sony….

  • This looks great i hope that its spec.’s are up to par with others i will be picking it up

  • THANK YOU SO MUCH

I am so happy you decided to release something like this, especially with a toggle-mute option. The bluetooth constant mute-beep notification was so annoying.

I will pick these up day 1 for sure.

  • If it is also compatible on pc, which i think it would be, i would fork out $100 for it

  • Awesome! I was going to get a turtle beach one, but this is way better because you just plug in usb instead of having a huge transmitter module.

  • THIS IS BS, I HAVE A PAIR OF SONY BLUETOOTH HEADPHONES ALREADY, NOT EARBUDS, HEADPHONES…..WTF, IS THIS MORE WASTED MONEY?

  • About frakking time! Do you know how long I have wanted something like this? The only bad thing about it that I see is that I have to wait until September before I can it :)

  • so, its huge, its ugly, it takes up a usb port….and oh wait, its $100…I’ll keep my money, but thanks anyways.

  • awsome cant wait till it comes out. think im sticking with the bluetooth head set as those tend to be better for me and my hearing issues ^_^ and lol, no im not a old man. im a 14 year old with hearing issues….

so sony, do you guys have an update on the ps store please?? i have a 50$ psn card that i am very excited to use ^_^ even just an estimate would be most appreciated

  • groovy :)

  • meh, the sound on those “7.1” surround isn’t that great, i’m sure sony’s will be somewhat better, but for $100 i want to use the headphones everywhere. you guys should bye a $80 pair of senheiser, or $100 bose, and use your blutooth for audio output only same thing gaming……and so much more otherwise

  • How is the speed of the sound to the headsets since they are wireless

  • I’ll pass on these. I have my Astro A40’s (Wireless System) hooked up to every device connected to my television. That means I can use my computer, cable, XBOX 360, PlayStation 3, etc. all while using my headset.

  • $99 sounds pretty good for an entry set. But now for the real questions. What size drivers? Range..interferance? Will it process DTS HD Master, will the PS3 handle the decoding? If you could sell a bluetooth headset for $40 why are you taking a step back and not implementing bluetooth into this model. Why no swivels on the headset for easier rest when not on.

These won’t get me off my Astros… but I will definetely pick it up for my little brother who could use a pair. Other than my questions it looks like a great headset, can’t wait for more specs.

  • Ok ok i have been upset all week because the PSN isnt up but WOW !! thats some sleak looking headset, I always wanted to buy one just like this style, but you guys never came out with one thanks SONY!!

  • will be getting this the day it comes out…….just hope it doesnt light on fire like my turtle beach headset ;)

  • Hahahaha, did you guys read the comment from the guy that wants a super equalizer on the headphones so he can turn up the footstep sounds but turn down the explosions? HAHAHAHAHA.

    Oh, how meta gamer.

  • I appreciate all these updates and all, but all I want is for the PlayStation Store to open already.

  • They look pretty nice. If only I had a job. :'(

  • cool addition, looks nice too

  • can’t wait until it comes out

  • Bought the “turtle beach px5”, don’t think ill be get it (unfortunately).

  • Cant wait for these hopefully this thing has good audio quality Wonder if this will work with my brothers 360 also

  • Do you realize sony, Now that you have this BEASTS headset comming out your could add cross game voice chat? PLEASE REPLY SONY.

  • im buying these straight away :D

  • This headset has to be one of the sleekest on the market. Good job Sony.

  • I would buy this…but that money is going towards Resistance 3, Cathrine, and Bleach: Soul Resurrection

  • I needed these three months ago before I shucked out $249.99 for my Astro A40’s that I love.

  • I will be purchasing these babies for sure. Wish it had a removable cord for a normal headphone jack though.

  • sweet i cant wait. no more wired head sets yea………..

  • I must say it’s about time guys! ;)

This is great timing actually. I’ve been looking for a good quality headset for a small budget price… this seems to be the ticket. Considering they’re made by Sony for the PS3 makes me like them more. That way I know they’ll work like they’re supposed to. At least I hope they do.

I find it odd that you didn’t make it Bluetooth though. How exactly does that work with game audio coming through the USB?

Is it rechargeable? No swapping batteries I hope.

  • I would actually consider picking these up if only they were bluetooth capable. I just really have no desire to add a USB hub to my PS3 in my living room. What’s the point of making the headset wireless if I have to add a wired USB hub to my PS3 anyway? Hopefully, they’ll release a version later that is bluetooth capable.

  • Can we connect them to other devies like our cell phones via bluetooth or are they only compatible with the PS3? If so they are kinda useless.

  • Being Sony leaked everyone’s personal information, including mine, to the world. How about giving everyone a set of these instead of the “lame games” giveaway. You can also fix my $600 80gig fat PS3 for free, that sits in the graveyard(died less that 2 months out of warranty), due to the low temp solder that you used, that cannot support the heat that those early systems produced. One could prove this to a jury in a court of law by simply doing a “Re-flow” with a heat gun. I’m sure upon seeing this, 12 people would have no problem coming to a logical conclusion. Its a design flaw and the very reason that you re-designed the PS3 to the slim system. Yet to this day you still state that it’s not Sony’s fault. But then everyone knows that Sony lies. Just look a the current PSN outage. You have fed us nothing but lies (when you actually gave us information).

Given that I have spent over $10,000 between the PS2,PS3, and games for those systems, I have a right to be bitter. Do you always crap on the people that stuff money in your pockets?

  • Can it also be used wired? We need to stop using wireless things, making all of these batteries which are destroying the environment.

  • Can you please give us the model number or some more detailed specs on these?

I just purchased a set of Sony MDR-XB40EX Extra Bass Earphone – MDRXB40EX
and I really love the sound quality. Admittedly it would be more convenient to have a wireless set and the ability to change the volume without the need for an external amplifier.

That’s one thing I always wish the PS3 had! With all of it’s card, USB, and other in/outs, but no headphone jack with a volume slider! Even my Sega Genesis from 1989 had that. :P

Anyway, I’m not sure I could get used to using the over the ear style phones for hours of gaming. Especially in the Summer here they can get pretty warm and sweaty. Any chance you can emulate DD 7.1 with in the ear style or is that impossible?

  • Now why didn’t they use the built-in bluetooth adapter of the PS3 instead of a USB adapter?

But with the wireless adapter, I hope that they can also work on a PC…

  • @LeadPaint :
Sony didn’t leak ANYTHING.. If you are talking about the information that was STOLEN from them get over it. It wasn’t their fault. They had all of the credit card information properly encrypted and no one’s credit card has yet to be compromised due to this attack/breach.

Seriously though. Get over it. It’s done with and Sony has gone above and beyond to fix this and do what they can to catch the attackers. The PSN service was free so you lost nothing but a few online gaming sessions. Instead of complaining why not thank them for a change.

  • I was pretty pessimistic seeing this at first as Sony “Playstation” branded products are generally well overpriced. However, this actually looks like a decent attempt. $100 is really not that bad; especially considering Turtle Beach sets are around $150 up wired for the same faux surround. Some notable points I would like to raise though:
    1) For a new release game more one could get a wired TRUE surround headset (I have a pair of Tritton AX Pro’s for example). These work, but in all seriousness they are a fake surround mimicked over stereo. Some may not notice any difference but some will. I had to trade in my TBs because of it.
    2) What wireless protocol is this using? Wireless audio devices in general are notorious for picking up at least a noticeable amount of interference; if not all the time at least in pops.
    3) Will these work with anything other than the PS3? It seems as if the PS3 recognizes and interacts with it on a special protocol (recognizing battery status for example). Will a PC or Mac be able to use these at least with official drivers?

I’m not trying to knock this down at all if it appears that way. These would definitely fill a market, but I’m just curious about some more of the details here.

  • So what is this?

    * Surround sound on the PS3™ requires system software version 3.70 or later. Surround Sound does not work with Blu-ray Disc movies

  • is sony gonna let us exchange our px21’s for a discount?

  • OMG so beautiful!!! im so going to get it!!!

  • looks nice but will they come out in canada??

  • Remove the black playstation boxes over the ears, it makes it look ugly. If these things can play the ingame audio through the headphones and not the tv, then i’ll probably get them. All those night sessions can be real loud don’t want to wake the neighbors.

  • @438 Yeah

  • can we talk price here

  • Dear Sony,

Even I of all people am beginning to think you are stepping out of line. Where’s the store? Why do you continue to market these items when our trust in you hasn’t been fully re-established? Just give us some kind of statement on the status of the store. Japan is going back up so whats the problem now? For over a week your consumers have continuously asked about this, and you continue to ignore us on this matter. All the while you market new items and games. Your customers want to buy games, from the store. A headset is not a game, nor will it be sold through the store. Just give us something please. Please.
