PlayStation Fans: Watch E3 Online Right Here

Last year, we invited three hundred fans into our press conference. This year, we’re shooting for a million.

You’ve been requesting it, so for the first time, we’ll be broadcasting the entirety of the PlayStation press conference directly into this Blog. Additionally, we’re setting up a mini-studio in the PlayStation booth, and we’ll be bringing in developers while the show floor is open for interviews, live demos and to answer your questions via a built-in chat module. It all starts right here on June 6th.

Kaz Hirai, Chairman and Group Chief Executive Officer of Sony Computer Entertainment, Inc.

UPDATE: We’ve got several hundred more entries than we’ve got spots open, so we’re cutting off the entries now. We’ll grade the papers over the next few days and contact winners by email. Thanks for entering!

Since this is an LA event, we’d still like to do something for some of our Southern California fans. Because our press conference is already at capacity, we unfortunately won’t be able to get anyone into building (again, everyone can watch the livestream right here). However, we were able to secure over one hundred 3-day passes to the E3 Expo, where attendees can visit our booth and go hands-on with NGP and our stellar PS3 lineup as a guest of PlayStation.

We want to make sure only the biggest local PlayStation fans get in, so instead of having folks queue up in the unpredictable Spring weather (as has been the case in past years), we’ve created a web quiz you can take from the comfort of [wherever you are sitting].

Here are a few things to note:

  • E3 takes place from June 7-9th at the Los Angeles Convention Center, so you’ll obviously need to be in SoCal during that time to attend. Don’t bother taking the quiz if you won’t be there!
  • You must be 18 or older to attend E3 – that’s their rule! Your ID will be checked when you go to pick up your badge, so if you’re under 18… don’t bother taking the quiz!
  • E3 badges are non-transferable, so if you’re not sure if you’re going to be able to attend… don’t bother taking the quiz!
  • The information we’re asking for (name & email address only) is required for all attendees by the ESA, who run the E3 Expo. We won’t ask for any additional info!
  • We’ll grade quizzes and select winners by late next week, and contact winners via email with information on how to pick up your passes.

Good luck!

Im pretty new to PSN just joined about 5 months ago, so whats E3

  • @A_Belmont

See that would be perfect. And all the people saying I am regretting my purchase I’m getting a XBOX, thats typical guilt syndrome. In other words since Sony does have a store some people will act disinterested in the hopes Sony will work faster. Look it’s a free service people and there paying out of pocket to give us free stuff when this free service is back up. Now I may like an update but I’m not going to complain about when a free service goes down for a month or more.

Haha, well thanks! I think I’m too busy being a business student right now to take on full employment, but doing that little knock-up took five, maybe six minutes. It’s not a whole lot of effort but it’s the sort of positive, appreciative comment that would make me feel good as a customer, and even though it wouldn’t seal Sony into any sort of date. If I might suggest to SONY PR (and I will, hopefully they’ll at least read it, even if it is with a scoff), try looking through the lens of a consumer when you go to address this kind of stuff. What is something that every PSP and PS3 owner see on their firmware each time they go to use their games? The Sony PSN – so it’s on our minds constantly while we use your products. Naturally that makes us curious when we can use that service we’ve liked and used before, and confused as to why it’s not a popular topic from Sony. Sony PR – look through our eyes, and you’ll have a much better idea of how to talk to us. Right now you feel out of touch with us consumers…and it doesn’t feel so great.

  • @195 That’s a good idea, would be pretty awesome to stream it directly from the PS3.

  • I like how jeff got smart with one of the bloggers about when the store would be up…you shouldn’t talk to your customers that way JEFF.

  • Oh and maybe the store will be addressed at E3 (Electric Entertainment Expo).

  • @AbruptedWotas

Although it’s aggravating for me (I have a whole friggin GAME I need to buy off the store), at least he’s saying SOMETHING.

  • Will the conferences be for download off of PSN in 1080p again like last year? That was very convenient!

  • he didn’t say anything, same old crap

  • Whats the big anoucment at E3? “We may have all functions working within the year” best thing you could announce is you’ve fired your PR director and are gonna try to make it up to your fans for lack of respect

  • @Shadowkat
Agreed – customers are confused about the status of the service. They feel out of touch with the providers and are clambering to find Any way to get Sony to see their confusion. It’s not because we hate sony, it’s not because we’ll never buy Sony’s products again – consumers in general feel collectively silenced and unimportant, and they want to help Sony provide better services, make more profit, and use that profit to improve upon their services, so we buy more, they make more….etc, it’s a symbiotic relationship. Sony, none of us are bad people, we’re just exasperated that our attempts to reach your ears seem to fall short – we want to help you make more money, so we get better entertainment and services in return. Just…let us know you’re listening, I think that’d make a lot of us smile, even think about things we’ve been meaning to purchase on the PSN but just put off – maybe we’ll be a little more tempted, why we smile…
See? Now I’m doing it! C’mon Sony, don’t make us beg any longer, we stakeholder’s have a lot of interest in what you’re up to!

  • @ 207 yeah It was good to see some sorta responce even if it was as vauge as the updates.

  • Sony has to face the government a 2nd time to further explain the outage and all that. When the U.S. Government steps in, you know they screwed up big time

  • @Abrupt

Better to have some acknowledgement than be ignored. XD Although I want more info too.

    Frankly, my patience is GONE.

“When we have a 100% locked in uptime for the store, we’ll tell you. Really, honestly, there’s not much else to say, is there?”

Not a very smart PR move talking to a customer like that Jeff….

  • Cool

  • It would be posted on youtube anyway so a live stream is not really a big deal to me, especially since I’d like to see what everyone is doing and not just Sony, but thanks anyway. What we’d really like is to here something about the store. Is it still planned to be up and running by the end of the month? A lot of us are getting a bit tired of waiting.

  • I love devilmosh’s idea!

I haven’t been in Home for awhile, but I’d definitely go back in to watch E3 and interact with the people around me about what’s being shown and announced! If not, then I can definitely deal with watching it here on the Blog.

  • @ Shadowkat1991.. so you fancy yourself a bit of a psychologist or something? You know even if your half rite, are you tring to say people shouldn’t be upset? Perhaps you fail to understand that people have dlc content that has already been paid for that they can’t redeem. “Its a free service” lol nothing is free sir, a STORE is not free. I don’t even know why I’m replying to your nonscence.

  • Sony show’s no remorse on us the cunsumer. I sure hope everybody joins micosoft and leave’s sony in the dirt sony should be ashamed for disrespecting the loyal gamers by making deadlines after deadlines and lying to your main source of income us the costumers if i could tranfer all my trophys and PSN ID to Xbox i would have left Sony ages ago. But dont worry sony keep Cash cowing us.

  • Might have been answered already but is it going to be the entire 5 hour press conference like some news sites have reported or the standard 2 hour length?

  • When are you bringing E3 to Miami?

  • FYI If you guys gave any update on (where we stand on the restoration process) people would have a place to ask questions and vent instead of haveing your productive blog bombarded..anyways I am looking forward to E3..I really want to see how Sony acts to the world. You need to have the store up by then. If not god help yas :).
I want to support ya..now get your crap together.

  • Jeff Rubenstein I would love to chin check you for disrespecting the gamers

When we have a 100% locked in uptime for the store, we’ll tell you. Really, honestly, there’s not much else to say, is there?”

  • In a way when they said they have a target date of the 31st that is just an estimated time frame. He was being honest because there is no set time. He told the cusotmer like it is.

  • The press conference better not be like last year’s. The first half was nothing but a 45 minute commercial about 3D. Show some games not videos, and don’t try to sell your fans on 3D. Time to make some noise Sony, don’t alienate your loyal customers. A firmware update that doesn’t suck? With the exception of these two past months. PS+ has been a no show, what about a price drop and some real content.

I love the exclusives coming out for the PS3, but you guys really need to start listening to your customers, when you release the PS4 no one will want to go through this again. Everything people have requested falls on deaf ears. I’m aware you guys are trying to do the best you can. But someone needs to relay that info loud and clear as it’s been 6 years all we’ve been getting is features removed and crap updates. Time to harness the power of the ps3 and show us what this thing can really do.

P.S One PSone classic that’s long overdue is Legend Of Dragoon.

  • Only doing this after seeing how well Nintendo does. Still a nice touch. Although Sony is the runner-up of this generation console war they are still the best at electronics.

Also about the NGP. It’ll flop as bad as the Taco-phone that I think N-gage made. It’ll be to pricey and gimmicky. So far it looks like a phone with analog sticks. Stupid. They are trying to compete with Nintendo but Nintendo has the lock-down on the portable gaming market that they created with the Gameboy. I have a 3DS and love it. Honestly Sony should not even bother with making portable gaming systems. The majority of US gamer who bought PSPs only bought them to play illegally downloaded games and guess what they pirate, Nintendo games. The main issue with the PSP and honestly will carry over is the lack of good games. I only have an imported PSP to play Imports, because Japanese games are 100 times better then the crap we get. Hey at least Sony makes high quality products unlike Microsoft where you are guaranteed to use the warranty.

  • the thing is i just recently bought my ps3 back in feb. This outage and not letting customers know about the issue at hand, is really not a good first impression for me, am i to expect this horrible customer service and bad public relations in the future? When the full outage was going on, i couldn’t even call customer service on a issue i was having with my ps3. I am sure i am not the only one that had just bought their system and had to deal with all this.

  • @225: OMG LoD is amazing. BTW in JAPAN Legend of the Dragoon is already on the PSN Store. I gots it ^_^

  • @225 Yea Legend of Dragoon is pretty cool but I think my favorite was Legend of Legaia.. don’t know why really.

  • Black OPs? Mic? add me. boredom is setting in

  • why is this important? i just want a date on when the store will be up again even if it isnt 100% locked in its better having an estamated day then nothing at all. Knowing you guys you have a line up of games that can only be bought on the playstation store.

  • It still makes me mad on how Jeff responded to a fellow blogger about the store. I think its copying and pasteing time and takeing it to the joystiq, gamepro, and other popular gaming blogs. I thought somewhere on here Jeff that it says “think about what you say before you hit submit” LOL

  • WHY do they think that anybody under 18 is considered “inmature”?

  • Jeffs just being a douch .. Sony probably wont let him say anything about the store.. but he could F’n say something supportive at least.. too much trouble for him I guess.

  • yup/232:)

  • @ 201, E3 is kinda like the Grammy awards of video gaming where you get the most info out of the newest and upcoming games and games get anouced GOTY (Game Of The Year)

  • That sounds cool, just to stinkin’ bad we still don’t have a PlayStation Store up and running yet!!!!

  • So, here’s a problem I’m struggling with (totally unrelated), but maybe Jeff or someone else Sony could explain to me? Please?
I recently had my PSP stolen – a bummer, since it had a BRAND NEW (and I mean not even 24 hours old) copy of FF4 complete, and a battery pack/grip, so the thing was really best portable device I’d ever had.
All right, so that sucks, and that means some thief might be using all the digital games (quite a few) without ever paying sony a cent. So I’ve been talking with customer support about deactivating that device from my account so the thief doesn’t get to reap all the rewards of the foul deed, but apparently Sony can do this only by giving them my info manually – to be sure this wasn’t a scheme, I sent a second question through support, and got the same answer. Why doesn’t Sony offer users of the PSN the ability to deactivate devices they no longer want on their account without bugging their reps and sending the info via phone or email? I’m just curious, seems like a peculiar thing to leave out.

  • why blog and ps3 went home web site is down can’t sign on to home page right now

  • @ AbruptedWotas Because they stated , EVEN BEFORE ONLINE WAS BACK ON . that the store could be down up to MAY 31 , Some individuals just selectively read portions of the blog and then pretend their fully informed , they could of posted that date in bright neon 5 point font blinking on and off in unison to the sound of an airhorn and you would still be asking “when’s the store comeing back ?” His ANSWER is logical , nothing has changed so THEREFORE one can only come up with the logical thesis that the MAY 31 st date still holds true . if there is anybody would like to have had the store up sooner IT IS SONY , it’s their bread and butter . Now go pass along the MAY 31 st date to your buddies , and sit tight because the store is not comeing up sooner because of your baby fit’s and lack of reading comprehension .

  • @240 I salute you

  • @fuzzyclutter I would like to smash your skull on a rock sir. You are a disgrace and should be delt with acordingly. Sony has NOT stated that they store WILL be up on the 31st. They have only said that they are TARGETING full restoration of all services by the end of this month. You should know that “targeting” doesn’t mean anything that can be taken seriously especially because they have been saying that for weeks.

  • i hope i can be off to see it

  • @bigbaddoom.. what is your deal anyway? One day your bashing Sony with the rest of us and the next your saluting people like that idiot fuzzyclutter? Are you just tring to mess with people on the forums or are you just an extreem “follower” and agree with what ANYONE says?

  • Part of the problem is if Sony knew something for the targeted date they may have said something. But the problem is two fold because of the fact that Jeff stated in the most recent blog that they would tell us more when they have something 100%. Now nothing is ever set in store and fuzzyclutter I do agree with you that people only read parts of the blogs, only seeing what they want. @nick if Sony does miss the date that would cause alot of problems for them. Think of the stock holders, the customers, and them in general. But you are correct in saying it doesn’t mean anything.

  • man stop asking when is the store going to be up . Let them do the dam job. Its noot theri fault they have to do it step by step now. every dan thing. shesh

If certain folks would leave things alone// we all know who. we would not have this problem.

@ 201 E3 is like the super bowl of video games it where all three major console are trying to show off their best games and tell the gamers why they should be part of there brand. You get to see u p coming titles and etc for each coming title brand.

Last yr nintendo won. but the last 2 yrs before sony won. Xbox not won it about 4-5 yrs now. they nevr have anything new beside halo. The showed xblox slim last yr and gave them out for free> I was there. And no i didnt keep the xbox i gave it away..didnt need to bring trash back home lol..

  • I have never bashed Sony once if you read my posts. You haven’t read all of my posts because you would see that I’m not siding with anyone. I have made it clear my thoughts and feelings. I do think fuzzy is right people need to read the full article. I am frustrated just like all of you but there is nothing I can say or do that will change anything. I don’t agree with name calling on here, threats, and people being accused of being plants. I want the store back up. I have sided with both sony and customers for a reason. I have worked in a corporation and I look at both sides. If no one has gotten this from the past then there is nothing more I can say to make you see what is going on.

  • livestream what??????

  • @238 u can de activate a psp device . via ps3 if you merged/.linked them together.ALso Im sorry to hear about that. better luck next time. Also know at certain walmart and gamestop u can get a psp go for about 99$ used. not a bad deal. I wish u the best.

I dont know of any other way to deactivate a device or than that.
