This press release just hit the wire – PlayStation Store and related services (like voucher redemption) back this week:
SONY AND SONY COMPUTER ENTERTAINMENT ANNOUNCE FULL RESTORATION OF PLAYSTATION®NETWORK SERVICES
Tokyo, May 31, 2011 – Sony Corporation and Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) announced today that Sony Network Entertainment International (SNEI, the company) will fully restore all PlayStation®Network services in the Americas, Europe/PAL territories and Asia, excluding Japan, Hong Kong, and South Korea by the end of this week. The company will also resume Music Unlimited powered by Qriocity™ for PlayStation®3 (PS3®), PSP® (PlayStation®Portable), VAIO and other PCs. Details for Japan, Hong Kong, and South Korea as well as the remaining services on Qriocity will be announced as they become available.
The company implemented considerable security enhancements to the network infrastructure, as well as conducted testing of the payment process and commerce functions. The first phase of PlayStation Network and Qriocity restoration began on May 15 in the Americas and Europe/PAL territories, followed by Japan and Asian countries and regions on May 28, when the company brought partial services back online. With this partial restoration users were able to access to some of the services such as online game play, account management, friend lists and chat functionality were restored. The full restoration of PlayStation Network as well as part of services to become available on Qriocity will include:
• Full functionality on PlayStation®Store
• In-game commerce
• Ability to redeem vouchers and codes
• Full functionality on Music Unlimited powered by Qriocity for PS3, PSP, VAIO and
other PCs
• Full functionality on Media GoCustomers will be able to purchase and download games and video content from the PlayStation®Store on PS3 or PSP. In addition, consumers will have full access to Music Unlimited powered by Qriocity through PS3, PSP, VAIO and other PC’s. Service restoration of Video on Demand powered by Qriocity™ and Music Unlimited powered by Qriocity for a variety of network-enabled Sony devices will be announced later.
“We have been conducting additional testing and further security verification of our commerce functions in order to bring the PlayStation Network completely back online so that our fans can again enjoy the first class entertainment experience they have come to love,” said Kazuo Hirai, Executive Deputy President, Sony Corporation. “We appreciate the patience and support shown during this time.”
The company will be offering customers a “Welcome Back” package of services and premium content to all registered PlayStation Network* and Qriocity account services. The details of this program will continue to be detailed regionally.
* Only available for those countries with access to PlayStation®Store.
We will update the PlayStation Blog when the PlayStation Store is once again open for business.

Hey Sony, here’s an idea, how about some redundant/backup systems in case your server gets hacked so you don’t have to shut down for a month and a half. Cause you know there’s a huge target painted on your forehead right now and if you go down for a month again you might not get back up again, ever. Think about it……..just sayin’.

I was a serious PC game player. I thought the console games were a joke. They were lower res and you had to live with the bugs because the cartridge couldnt be upgraded. PC games were totally awsome when compared. Then I noticed the consoles were getting their own hard drives and the graphics was getting way better. When companies like EA started making their games for the consoles first (and sometimes only) and HDMI came out that was my signal to get with the program and see what I had been missing.
I purchased my PS3 in December of 2007 and I haven’t looked back. I was surprised at how difficult it was for me to learn to use the D-Pad. I had to de-program myself from joysticks. To this day I still have to invert the Y axis for ‘look’ or I get totally screwed up.
I just finished playing Mafia II and I got my very first Platinum Trophy ever. I am just dying to purchase and download all of the DLC stuff for Mafia II and play through it again.
I really hope they don’t wait until the last day of the week to get the store back up.

Npg will do very well becuase it will arleady be able to use psp games . thats a no brainer that 300plus odd games right there. . We are just going to have wait and see what other functions it has..

I’m sorry, but I’ll believe it when it happens. If I kept relying on the messages you’ve given us, we would’ve had the store back up weeks ago. So another delay to me just sounds like another delay, and I’m not going to be surprised if this continues all the way into E3.
I HOPE it’s fixed by then, but all I’m saying is your word and your lack of communication in between these messages, I’d be a fool to get my hopes up.
So the Dungeon Siege III Demo is available now on XBOX360 while for PlayStation 3 it lists as available on 6.7.11
So the Store will be up on 5.7.11 at the latest. I hope.
hey people here is an interesting idea. I just got off the phone with Gamestop. I have PS3 320gb, two six axis dual shock controllers, two move wands, two move joysticks, ps eye, ps remote, qwerty keyboard( mounts on controller), Dual charger for move controllers, Sharp shooter for move, Guitar for hero, sports champ move accessories, and 15 top end games. The games are all brand new, I got the ps3 and all accessories in December from my family because they all know how die hard a ps3 fan i have been. I even have the Harmony adapter for their remote. I have owned nothing but a ps since the original. I still have my first 40gb ps3 its controller, eye, and remote, which i have owned for about 5 years, all still in mint condition and very well maintained. I HAVE WITHOUT FALTER FREKIN LOVED YOU GUYS FOR YEARS. I am extremely tired of the BS and got offered a major trade-in value to get rid of what cost my family more than $1500 for about half that to go XBOX360 Kenetic.
I’m not feeding into any timelines from sony until it is actually up, Sony better have in the back of their head that E3 is coming up they better have the Store up or RIP your gaming reputation, people don’t realize the how hard the outage is hitting small time developers, you really think after all this that they will continue to use the PSN to host their games, if they are not multi platform?
My local craigslist video game section has been full of people trying to offload their PS3’s or trade them for 360’s for the last 2 weeks.
Please FAST! that’s a crazy situation… people want buy anything in the PS Store but its impossible! PEOPLE WANT BUY its not for free men its PAY!

my gf and i bought the playstation move about 2-3 months ago. we had it for 2 weeks and took it back. we werent impressed at all. not enough games for it. we traded it in at a gamestop. the motion contollers were the most expensive thing. the camera was horrible quality. as for my 250GB PS3, its worth $100 at gamestop right now and i bought it not even a year ago. i will be keeping my PS3 seeing its only worth $100.

You can make a quick sale on Amazon at $200 for your PS3. Gamestop’s business is to take advantage of parents who don’t want to go through any hassle, or don’t know the true value of their merchandise.

I have always had to Invert my controls.
I was a huge PC gamer Untill the PS3. Console games felt so restrictive compaired to PC games. Because of PC games having mods, updates, expansion packs, and better graphics.
I still played consoles but never converted over fully till I got my first PS3. I still play my Atari a bit as well.
I fell in love with PlayStation One when it first came out, playing my first PlayStation One game “Battle Arena Toshinden”. Anyone else remember that game?

I’m in Florida in the U.S. and I’m connected to the PSN…no problems staying on since I’ve started playing Tiger Woods a few hours ago. I really don’t think they’ll take down the PSN (for those not logged in already) until they’re ready to roll out the newest patch (whenever that’ll be).
Its 1am here in Florida, and Psn is working but store is not
