This press release just hit the wire – PlayStation Store and related services (like voucher redemption) back this week:
SONY AND SONY COMPUTER ENTERTAINMENT ANNOUNCE FULL RESTORATION OF PLAYSTATION®NETWORK SERVICES
Tokyo, May 31, 2011 – Sony Corporation and Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) announced today that Sony Network Entertainment International (SNEI, the company) will fully restore all PlayStation®Network services in the Americas, Europe/PAL territories and Asia, excluding Japan, Hong Kong, and South Korea by the end of this week. The company will also resume Music Unlimited powered by Qriocity™ for PlayStation®3 (PS3®), PSP® (PlayStation®Portable), VAIO and other PCs. Details for Japan, Hong Kong, and South Korea as well as the remaining services on Qriocity will be announced as they become available.
The company implemented considerable security enhancements to the network infrastructure, as well as conducted testing of the payment process and commerce functions. The first phase of PlayStation Network and Qriocity restoration began on May 15 in the Americas and Europe/PAL territories, followed by Japan and Asian countries and regions on May 28, when the company brought partial services back online. With this partial restoration users were able to access to some of the services such as online game play, account management, friend lists and chat functionality were restored. The full restoration of PlayStation Network as well as part of services to become available on Qriocity will include:
• Full functionality on PlayStation®Store
• In-game commerce
• Ability to redeem vouchers and codes
• Full functionality on Music Unlimited powered by Qriocity for PS3, PSP, VAIO and
other PCs
• Full functionality on Media GoCustomers will be able to purchase and download games and video content from the PlayStation®Store on PS3 or PSP. In addition, consumers will have full access to Music Unlimited powered by Qriocity through PS3, PSP, VAIO and other PC’s. Service restoration of Video on Demand powered by Qriocity™ and Music Unlimited powered by Qriocity for a variety of network-enabled Sony devices will be announced later.
“We have been conducting additional testing and further security verification of our commerce functions in order to bring the PlayStation Network completely back online so that our fans can again enjoy the first class entertainment experience they have come to love,” said Kazuo Hirai, Executive Deputy President, Sony Corporation. “We appreciate the patience and support shown during this time.”
The company will be offering customers a “Welcome Back” package of services and premium content to all registered PlayStation Network* and Qriocity account services. The details of this program will continue to be detailed regionally.
* Only available for those countries with access to PlayStation®Store.
We will update the PlayStation Blog when the PlayStation Store is once again open for business.
Who doesn’t already own all the systems PS3, xbox360, wii?? Who thinks that one company can meet all your video game needs?? Xbox360=online multiplayer, crappy single player. PS3=single player, crappy online, wii=party fun..for my kids. All the best games of one system are on all systems(COD, BF2, Crysis2, Portal, Fallout) execpt a few and I mean a FEW games like inFamous or Halo that were specifically for their respective concoles.
P.S. Xbox lovers, Xbox was hacked in 2007 (or did we forget) were the same thing happened and peoples info were stolen by proabaly the same hackers. And do you know what Xbox gave its loyal “PAYING” customers?? Thats right! absolutely nothing because Xbox really is just in it for the money. Look at there game selection and you will agree. Look at the entire cataloge and see if you can find ten games out of the thousands that you would play but they cant be games that were made for multiple systems. Xbox wants your money anyway they can get it and they dont care if you like it or not. Food for thought. Would not be suprise dif Xbox devs hacked PSN to get people to convert. Oh well.

Tybris, I like the conspiracy theory. I only own Playstation systems, the only none Sony game system I own is my OG Nintendo. I did have an original Xbox but I sold it when I got my PS3. I am the only person I know that prefers the Playstation controller over the Xbox.

Yea i agree i dont think they know what there doing either. They lie to us to much. Come on were there LOYAL customers. We buy the massive overprice game system for 300. Then buy each game for 50! @TybrisTheCat i agree and the xbox live was down for 1 month. Then i remember the thing they gave there fans was an avatar and theme pack. Then so many people was complaining and suing because they wasent gonna refund the money for gold to the players so people sued and then they refunded the money to them, gave them 1 month extra to current gold and 1 month to non gold free. Then they gave serial codes for age of empires.

i have over 500 dollars into my system and the store because im a “loyal” customer… yea ok. The system was 300 dollars. So guess how much i put into there UNRELIABLE store. This is just crap! IT DONT TAKE 2 MONTHS TO BRING AN ONLINE STORE BACK ONLINE!!! WHAT OUR YOU DOING SONY? WHEN THE STORE COMES UP IT BETTER LOOK ALOT DIFFERENT FOR BEING DOWN THAT LONG! in 2007 it was down for 76 days. My friend had a 360 at the time. And yes i said “at the time” He got rid of it then and got a PS2.

yea my gf and i have spent close to $300 in the store. we havent used home for a while where most of the money was spent. we will try it again since the 100 free items. as for the games, yeah they are free but now it would be nice to see some more titles added to the list.

I’d say with how long it has taken to be considered a miracle considering exactly what just happened to them. You need to take into account that they didn’t rush so this kinda thing would happen less likely in the future, therefore causing less issues. You need to remember the store is not the only thing Sony has and it most certainly is not like the entire company works on it. Only so many people are likely to be in the group working on it and they are only human and can’t do everything perfectly and go as fast as all these whiners wish they would. You should really think of exactly how much work and effort it takes to up the security as well as any other things that were likely added to their workload.
Basically, everyone needs to stop complaining and find something else to do while they wait for the store. Seriously, why are you all nagging them about it or [DELETED] over things that can’t be changed as easily as one may think? If you guys dislike the work Sony does then why don’t you go and get a job there and show them just how great you are? Yeah, highly doubt anyone here that is complaining could actually do it, although there are always those 1 in 1000 chances I suppose.
Wow being # 1700th on this posting is kinda something. I had hoped you would keep with you date of the 31st but meh I can wait another few days, it’s not like there is stuff I want to buy. Also all those that sent me hate mail, I hope you get banned this week. I heard that PSN will be taken offline today @ 4:30pm for maintenance and won’t be back up until TOMORROW @ 7:00am.

Sony i am disappointed. you said it would be on yesterday it is now June. you think you can just take your time, but that are nearly 100million people waiting for this store. you should only make dates if you know it is gonna work. i just checked my store and updates…nothing. tisk tisk Sony tisk tisk

i totally disagree they have not gotten it up yet they have not upadated us at ALL, they took their time and they cant even make accurate dates.

PS Store outage day 748355: Civilization has collapsed.. zombie hoards roam the earth and all because world economies crashed down with a thunder’s boom with Sony’s revenue loss. We have ventured now at least 10 feet from the house. This thing the ‘sun’ is kind of warm. A small comfort with the loss of food delivery service… I would sell a testicle for a pizza right now.

I’ve been downl since the day Sony turn off the store. I’m lost for the last 40 days plus just waiting for anything to happen. [DELETED] happens and that’s the way I feel about Sony being Hacked. I sure there are a lot more resentful people out there that would love to hack them again because of the long delay.
It seems to me that Sony keeps falling behind one day at a time knowing they will never catch up.

LA Noire to me is way better then any call of duty game. Why? Because its different and you can tell it actually took time to make.
