PlayStation Vita

Just moments ago during our 2011 E3 press conference we proudly unveiled an incredible 2011 software lineup and amazing new PS3 peripherals, and also shed new light on our highly anticipated handheld gaming device, officially named PlayStation Vita (PS Vita). “Vita,” which means “Life” in Latin, was chosen as the name for our next-generation portable entertainment system because it enables a revolutionary combination of rich gaming and social connectivity within a real world context.

By blurring the lines between interactive entertainment and reality, our goal was to design a device that offered a revolutionary combination of rich gaming capabilities and social connectivity, bringing users closer to each other and closer to their gaming experiences wherever they are. Connectivity was a key objective and our goal was to create experiences and content that would challenge the traditional notions of gaming. It was vital to make a device that was an extension of a user’s entertainment world, no matter where one would go.

PlayStation Vita

Successively launching in the global market for $249 starting the end of this year, PS Vita incorporates a beautiful 5-inch multi-touch organic light emitting diode (OLED) as the front display and a unique multi-touch pad on the rear. Two analog sticks enable a wider range of game genres. Together with the front touch screen and the rear touch pad, PS Vita offers new gameplay, enabling entirely new experiences.

ATT

We know you’ve been closely following all of the news since we announced the product in January. With mobile connectivity playing a huge role in PS Vita’s interactive experience, we know many of you have been wondering what carrier will be helping us bring you closer to other users and closer to your gaming experiences on the go. Today, we proudly announced a partnership with AT&T, which powers the nation’s fastest mobile broadband network, who will serve as the exclusive service provider for PS Vita in the United States. By having both Wi-Fi and 3G/Wi-Fi models available, PS Vita will enable infinite possibilities for you to “encounter,” “connect,” “discover,” “share” and “play” with your friends wherever they are.

Ruin for PS Vita

The excitement doesn’t stop there. We believe that 2011 will be a defining year as we usher in a new era of portable gaming. With the official North American unveiling of PlayStation Vita also comes the introduction of an extensive line-up of software for the platform. PS Vita’s launch lineup is a force to be reckoned with, featuring exciting and attractive new titles from SCE Worldwide Studios, including UNCHARTED: Golden Abyss, LittleBigPlanet, and Ruin (working title), which utilize PS Vita’s groundbreaking technology to make unprecedented immersive, interactive and social game play available on-the-go. In addition, titles such as Little Deviants, Hot Shots Golf, Reality Fighter, Hustle Kings, ModNation Racers, Wipeout, Super Stardust Delta and a broad range of third-party game developers and publishers make use of PS Vita’s unique feature set. We can let all of you know that the biggest and best 1st and 3rd party gaming franchises will be coming to PS Vita.

Further enhancing your entertainment experience are new PS Vita features, such as “LiveArea,” an interactive space for each PS Vita software title that allows you to access the latest game information through PlayStation Network; “near,” a pre-installed application that lets you see what other PS Vita users in the vicinity are playing; “Party,” which lets you voice chat or text chat while playing games or using the Internet browser; and “Welcome Park,” a tutorial application designed specifically to guide you through PS Vita’s new user interface. • Questions for VITA :

1- What type of media does Vita use?
2- How much is the internal memory and does it vary between $250/$300 versions?
3- Will all of its titles release simultaneously on both physical media and digital download?
4- How much will the games cost? Are the digital downloads going to cost the same?
5- Will we see some added integration with PSN and PSN plus, like Full Game trials for Vita games?
6- Can you hook up Vita to a TV via cable (like the PSP does), and what resolution would it display on a large screen? I
7- They showed “Ruin” resuming play on the PS3 (without the Vita hooked up) is this feature gonna be standard for all games (it should be, it’d be awesome)?
8- Will you need to be logged in as the owner to play digital content?
9- Is PlayStation Home gonna be accessible through Vita (I think Home would find its rightful home on Vita)?
10- Estimated battery life while playing online?
11- Is the full digital PSP library backwards compatible? how about the rest of the PSP library that isn’t available for download, will it be made available for Vita or is there a way to transfer UMD games to Vita memory?
11b- Will Vita have some features to graphically enhance PSP games?

  • 12- Any plans to release digital PS3 games that can be played on Vita as well? (kinda like PSone classics) how about making some PS3 digital games compatible with Vista like the HD remasters, that would be totally awesome and Vita can definitely handle those!
13- Any MMO being developed for Vita? That could be serious breakthrough, MMO on the go!
14- Remote play with the PS3? Any other added functionality when hooked up with the PS3?
15- How hot does it run? Slim version planned already? joking, I’m out of questions…for now.

  • Needs video out. I will wait for the second or third hardware release that incorporates that feature.

  • SONY never fails to make the MOST beautiful devices..

  • omg i want so bad !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • they should have called pslife , and not vita , cause it sounds kinda odd

  • xxfamasarmyxx97

what sucks is thaat i watched the sony e3 press conference and guess what ps vita has a party system with cross game chat and ps3 doesnt wow that sucks but thank sony for atleast implementing it

  • :D gotta start saving up! Nice combo with at&t to make connection easier ^_^!

  • I second comments 555 and 556.

I have an m2 Micro card and am wondering if the PS Vita will be able to accept M2 Micro or Pro Duo memory cards.

All info would be kindly appreciated. And please update Sony product tech specs info for PS Vita when it becomes available.

    Thanks :)

  • If Sony makes a PS Vita slim in another 2 years or so, they should really add these features:

    1. Size of a PSP 3000

    2. 8 MP Front and Rear Cameras + LED Flash

    3. Blue-Ray Digital Support

    4. 1080p HD Resolution

    5. Sprint, T-Mobile, and Verizon Support

    Comments?

  • I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHY SONY WOULD USE A LATIN WORD WHEN THE COMPANY IS FROM JAPAN..THIS IS A REALLY STUPID IDEA OF A NAME..>:/ PS “VITA” IS NOT GOING TO BE EVERYWHERE IN OUR LIVES..OR IS IT :P..ALL IM SAYING IS…THEY COULDVE CAME UP WITH A BETTER NAME..BUT I GUESS ITS GOING TO JUST BE PSV FOR ME :P

  • life in Japaneses is or could be any or all of these itonami, ukiyo, myou, seimei, ikioi, jurei, jinsei, one thing im thinking is this umd or download ( i hope umd i hate download never got the psgo just psp )

  • Ahhhh Helll yeahhh.

  • sup fools i ordrerd the 3G psp anyone know how much at&t charge for 3G and if theyl make me sighn a contract wit them fools

  • I have a question but don’t know where to post it so I will post it here.
Is it going to have a good web browser or is it going to be like the psp is now, I can’t get any web pages to come up because it keeps running out of memory or something else?

  • Ok, Who do I have to kill to get one of these *now*? }:-]

  • Awesome, I can’t wait!
    :D

  • how much will the monthly plan with at&t cost?

  • Impressive system! Too rich for my blood, though. Won’t be able to afford it for a very long while.

  • Forgot to add, it costs about as much as my ps3 did. Confused by that right there. It’s not a console, it’s a hand-held. There IS a difference. In theory, hand-held systems should be much cheaper. Even with all the bells and whistles, I wouldn’t pay more than 145 for it. I really want the vita, but I’m not willing (and unable) to pay the current price.

  • X--JollyRoger--X

Lolz I spent over $600 my first PS3 when I got it! Not to mention the $249.99 for the PSP on launch day. Not only is the pricing reasonable, it’s outstanding

  • Gimme some cool games at launch and I will buy it in the first store I see it! keep it up!!

  • Yes ,yes the pspvita is the best,im so happy for it,i hope fallout vegas be on the pspvita or if i can play the game from my ps3 it be so good, ooo man pspvita is hot.

  • Looks like that Sony shot themselves self in the foot because it seems to have no disc drive. Meaning there trying to get rid of the used games market. i understand the reason but that turns me away from it. Maybe if the games are reasonably priced ill buy it but maybe I’m wrong maybe I’m not seeing the disc drive.

  • merry christmas to me!!!! trophies on a handheld?? epic!!!!

  • i second #555 and #556

  • Sony should get verizon’s 4G LTE service for the Playstation Vita. It will be much faster.

  • AT&T isnt that bad…. at least is better than Verizon.
Im ok with this. Im getting the 3G model.

One question, games, what format? =/

  • LOL! Can’t wait for the MIdnight Release! Is there a midnight release?

  • I am going to buy one! The NGP is so cool!

  • Will it use the same sont memory stick Duo Pro that the PS uses? If so does the mean I can use My old games from my PSP on this new system or do I have to buy them all over again? Anyone have any clues or where i can read a more detailed list of specs?

  • when the ps vita coming next year

  • Lizardwrestler99

Need 4G support too. 3G been out forever. Old tech now. Perfect example to follow: Apple iPhone. It was an AT&T exclusive device, then they eventually branched out to other wireless carriers. 4G is best suited for mobile gaming and other entertainment. 3G is like dial up, extinct…. The GPS function surprised me. Front and rear cameras? SIXAXIS? Touch screen? Touch pad? I hope they have a slot for memory sticks as well. The $299.00 price tag is a good bargain for the features they’re packin’ in this.

  • Ok one freaking question and it would be great if someone could answer this…..ughhhh memory? Like Card, hard drive? what, is it going to be like the PSP go with 16 gig’s, or empty like the regular psp?

  • Same starting price that the PSP GO had but this will be more than ten times better.

  • Looks awsome ! What can we expect to see for FPS ‘s? Anything coming soon? Hopefully a sick COD !!!!

  • at&t sucks. I have verizon. 3g is fast but not as fast as 4g.
Wifi only is the only good one

  • I’ll buy it when it goes on sale!! it would be fantastic to have it!!

  • I dont care what nobody says I am so getting this

  • How much save data can PSVita hold? anybody know?

  • will the new eyepet coming to the psvita

  • still ass a 3ds

  • is it coming this soon

  • Already preorder this, can’t wait!!!

  • awesome , even though i’m getting the 3g version , $249 is pretty cheap if we are talking about such powerful console.

  • Sony u are the best!!! u are the #1 company 8D for me Sony Sony please live forever when i start making video games im going to start making video games for the PS3 becouse i believe in u Sony keep up hte good work.
