PlayStation Vita

Just moments ago during our 2011 E3 press conference we proudly unveiled an incredible 2011 software lineup and amazing new PS3 peripherals, and also shed new light on our highly anticipated handheld gaming device, officially named PlayStation Vita (PS Vita). “Vita,” which means “Life” in Latin, was chosen as the name for our next-generation portable entertainment system because it enables a revolutionary combination of rich gaming and social connectivity within a real world context.

By blurring the lines between interactive entertainment and reality, our goal was to design a device that offered a revolutionary combination of rich gaming capabilities and social connectivity, bringing users closer to each other and closer to their gaming experiences wherever they are. Connectivity was a key objective and our goal was to create experiences and content that would challenge the traditional notions of gaming. It was vital to make a device that was an extension of a user’s entertainment world, no matter where one would go.

PlayStation Vita

Successively launching in the global market for $249 starting the end of this year, PS Vita incorporates a beautiful 5-inch multi-touch organic light emitting diode (OLED) as the front display and a unique multi-touch pad on the rear. Two analog sticks enable a wider range of game genres. Together with the front touch screen and the rear touch pad, PS Vita offers new gameplay, enabling entirely new experiences.

ATT

We know you’ve been closely following all of the news since we announced the product in January. With mobile connectivity playing a huge role in PS Vita’s interactive experience, we know many of you have been wondering what carrier will be helping us bring you closer to other users and closer to your gaming experiences on the go. Today, we proudly announced a partnership with AT&T, which powers the nation’s fastest mobile broadband network, who will serve as the exclusive service provider for PS Vita in the United States. By having both Wi-Fi and 3G/Wi-Fi models available, PS Vita will enable infinite possibilities for you to “encounter,” “connect,” “discover,” “share” and “play” with your friends wherever they are.

The excitement doesn’t stop there. We believe that 2011 will be a defining year as we usher in a new era of portable gaming. With the official North American unveiling of PlayStation Vita also comes the introduction of an extensive line-up of software for the platform. PS Vita’s launch lineup is a force to be reckoned with, featuring exciting and attractive new titles from SCE Worldwide Studios, including UNCHARTED: Golden Abyss, LittleBigPlanet, and Ruin (working title), which utilize PS Vita’s groundbreaking technology to make unprecedented immersive, interactive and social game play available on-the-go. In addition, titles such as Little Deviants, Hot Shots Golf, Reality Fighter, Hustle Kings, ModNation Racers, Wipeout, Super Stardust Delta and a broad range of third-party game developers and publishers make use of PS Vita’s unique feature set. We can let all of you know that the biggest and best 1st and 3rd party gaming franchises will be coming to PS Vita.

Further enhancing your entertainment experience are new PS Vita features, such as “LiveArea,” an interactive space for each PS Vita software title that allows you to access the latest game information through PlayStation Network; “near,” a pre-installed application that lets you see what other PS Vita users in the vicinity are playing; “Party,” which lets you voice chat or text chat while playing games or using the Internet browser; and “Welcome Park,” a tutorial application designed specifically to guide you through PS Vita’s new user interface. • After all good job sony keep it up ;)

  • further proof that sony doesn’t care what it’s customers want.

  • OK OK OK I HAD ENOUGH… AT&T NOT GOOD FOR JUST ONE NEEDS MORE CARRIES. SECOND THIS THING NEEDS TO BLOW EVERYTHING OUT THE WATER AND INTO THE NEXT GEN TERRITORY. IT NEEDS TO BE GAME PLAY INNER-ACTIVE WITH THE PS3 AS THE DUAL SHOCK CONTROLLER IN GAME PLAY YES IT NEEDS TO RUMBLE. IT SHOULD BE USE AS A MINI MAP OR REAR VIEW CAM OR MIRROR ON A RACING GAME OR SOMETHING REAL FUN LIKE THAT YOUUUU CAN DOOO IT

    NEW PSP 3

  • Definitely looking forward to this, but I do have a couple concerning questions that have already been mentioned. For starters, will the PS3 be getting cross game party chat? When is this coming out? And what games will be coming out on the release date(whenever that may be)?

  • Oh my gosh…I want this so bad.
Please announce some more rpgs for this thing, I am already excited!
Can’t decide which version I’ll get.

Also…is black the only color available? I was looking forward to white or maybe even Felicia Blue, like the Japanese PSP color.
Black is just too smudgy for me.
I’ll get it either way, but color choices will make me happier.

  • new vita social video !!!! resistance multiplayer online looks good , Little big planet 4 players online looks good , cross game chat , cross game platform , full psn functionalities , man this thing is looking like a dream come true http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XozZAnB02Fk

  • LionsguardAgrias

One thing I would like to know is what it’s file sytem is like. I plan on putting numerous PSP/PS1 games on it and it would be nice to see how that works.

  • Is there augmented reality?

  • I’m really happy and Congrats and thanks to Sony, they made really great device, I love Playstation NGP/VITA..

I have one question, I want to get 3G+WiFi version, but in my country there’s no AT&T, how can i use different cell for 3G???

i really want answer to this question and please do not ignore it :):):)

    thanks

  • Apparently the US isn’t getting VITA till 2012, I’m angy.

  • WilliamFuchs420

Nintendos press confrence has been real cheesy so was microsofts sonys seems to be the most grown up

  • X-VIPER-LEADER-X

now this is insanity at its bestxD

  • whoa … you put the name ´´PS Vita“? In my opinion that name is horrible …

  • it’s coming out this holiday, i think.

  • What is the battery life of the Vita. I love EVERYTHING i’ve seen so far and the price is perfect :)

  • Hey, Sony I think you can use the PSVITA as the WiiU controller XD….GO SONY!!!

  • )Pre-order as soon as possible lets say Vita warm welcome to our family!

  • Oh, and question: will it have backward capability with PSP games since I can’t find my slim I put it somewhere so I cant find it…

  • im happy with all this but cmon sony look at the blog share use the ideas we give and put it in you system

  • For the simple fact that Sony decided to go with AT&T to support the Vitas network is the reason I will pass on it. AT&T is a horrible service and 3G is not the fastest. Also getting a vita that only supports wifi would be limiting your experience with the device big time that’s why I will just pass on it until they get a better service provider.

  • Sweet. It’s hot :)

  • 3DS WHO!?

I’ll be buying this as soon as i can, DAMN :D

  • What I really want to know is, will this live up to the interconnectedness that was promised with the PSP -> PS3? I want to be able to stream whatever is on my PS3 to my PSVita, whether it be a movie or a game, especially would love it if it were possible to do so while the PS3 was in use for, say, Netflix.

  • pre-ordered the WiFi version

  • I feel you guys. AT&T is a money hungry hog. i can’t beleive Sony backed us in a corner like this. I’m debating on just getting the wifi model or waiting for a 4G version. I know for a fact I’m not a big fan of AT&T I don’t want to give them a penny. I might just get the wifi version and move on. I’ll probably also scratch the PS Vita name off the front too lol

  • @Heavingly_king why would a sony product work with a nintendo product??

  • Hey, Sony I think you can use the PSVITA as the WiiU controller for the PS3 XD. Sony plz, dont let this opportunity go to waste. You can take advantage of this, considering that the PSVITA (like the PSP) can receive streamed content from the PS3, you can play PS3 games without a TV using the PSVITA. Also the PSVITA has touchscreen and gyroscopic sensors just like that “gigantic controller”. I think SONY can approach 3rd party developers with this ideas. And maybe when the PS3 goes down in price you can bundle the PS3 and the PSVITA!!!! GO SONY!!!!

    PS: PSVITA FIRST DAY BUY!!!!

  • @Kingstarbuddy: I was referring to the PSVITA as a new kind of PS3 controller, just like that “gigantic controller” works with the WiiU. My second post (437) makes clear what I meant before :D

  • People stop saying you want cross game chat becasue it might not evewn happen since it is a free service, so if you want to talk to people that play different games then move to xbox since you really want cross game chat. sony does not really have to do everything you want and since cross game chat is an xbox feature then PS3 might not even get it. Also please sony don’t make us get At&t plans for PSvita since even you heard on the stage that most people were not happy with that decision since At&t just made lots of enemies since they have bad network and customer support.

  • @Heavenly_king ok. i didn’t know what you meant

  • kingstarbuddy thinks he means the vita can compete directly with the wiiu ie do the same thing stream ps3 games to the device so we can play games without a tv or while watching tv I like that concept but the wiiu didnt impress me and the overall impression is confusuion most are askin if its a controler for the wii or a new system its the laymtter but it is weird ninyendo didnt really annoce it well

  • I think wiiu and ps3 will become direct competetors because of that very idea heavenlyking ea will def use the playbook idea on both if there smart

  • Day one purchase for me, definitely. But “PS Vita”? Ugh, when I get mine I’m going to call it “Sharon”.

    Yeah.

  • whats the difference between the vita and the NGP i dont get it? someone please help me with this

  • @444 nothing is different except the name. it’s the same thing

  • Thats the whole reason nintendo is workin on this new system the third parties want to be able to release on all three systems the wii just wasnt able to run the hd the others are so nintendo joins the hd party

  • Great pricing for this. :) Can’t wait!

  • I like the hardware, show us the softwares Sony. Oh and make sure we can browse the internet with Vita then I’ll get it.

  • Lets go PlayStation and PlayStation Vita. PlayStation is King of Gaming.

  • Really upset with AT&T exclusivity. Horrible customer service, and service in general. Always had dropped calls. I’ll probably still buy the wi-fi only version, unless the AT&T deal goes south and Sony decides to add in a few other carriers. Hopefully with the display it will be able to stream HD quality from Netflix and the like. Flash player integrated?

Please Sony, right now customer service should be at it’s best, and if people aren’t happy with AT&Ts customer service regarding the PSV, they’ll blame Sony for it, too.
