So I did the “optional” download and now I can’t play any game that has not already been played on my system. I have an old 40g fatboy that has worked without any problems since the day I took it out and first played it years ago.
What am I to do, as there is now no need to buy any new games since it wont recognize that a game disc is in. CDs, DVDs work games that have been loaded on to the system work so it isnt the laser.

5% of people are having problem with online, sense this update version 3.66, unless your PS3 was good before it or after. I can’t even used my PS3 Slim until there fix the update with the Slim models that are being affected by it. I know some of my friends are being affected by this too. Freezing up or bricking up, Sony will fix it sense we are the bloodline of the company. Unless there are killing us off now.
I say throw all bricked systems in Sony’s of America’s Headquarters front yard!!! Let them make a huge pile and maybe they will act.

5 percent may seem like a small percentage, but 5 percent of all ps3 systems out there, is a lot of systems.
Luckily nothing happened to my system with the update, I’m on the side of the frustrated consumer, that has problems with this update.
i wish sony would do something right now to fix this update with my PS3 Slim model which is 120GB.
I bought my ps3 back in Feb. of this year, I own both the ps3 and 360, I mean jesus its been one headache after another with my ps3, i just got it back from warranty repair, and barely have had it for 6 months. I haven’t had one problem with my 4 year old xbox 360, wait i had to replace a controller, cuz i dropped mine.
Its bad enough my wife thinks the ps3 is a piece of junk and was a waste of our tax return..So i am tired of defending the ps3. Internet connections on the ps3 is a joke, psn and ps+ is a joke. People that have never bought a 360 shut up, can’t knock something that you have never had. Its part of the fanboy disease, quit thinking ps3 is all that and a bag of chips. Don’t get me wrong I love both my systems, i’m just tired of defending the ps3. If you ask me, Sony gave me a bad first impression, since i just bought my ps3. With the outage, and well just about everything. And as a consumer i have the right to say that. and no one will tell me different

@ AbruptedWotas PS3 is better then xbox360 anyday. I had Xbox360 slim model guess what happen to it the whole system stops working and there told me that it would cost alot of $ to fix and we have to pay tax’s. i said ?$!#!$!$# xbox360 is the worst system ever. u have to pay to go online each month no way. Thats why i took the chance to do something to it. guess what? its on youtube me beating up xbox360 ;) jk on that part but no way i would get xbox 360 again. PSN+ & PSN rules, xbox360 is true joke.
not trying to say its bad system in anyway but xbox should make sure there systems work before selling them. If i go out to get new xbox 360 again its got to work or else or i am just during game PC from now on.
what i’m doing is what 750 is doing but i’m going to save my game data movies music pics and all of that on a flashdrive and then after restoring my it i can keep all of my game data :D

I live in a hotel and can’t even click through the internet ULA agreement to access the internet due to the PS3’s horrible browser that doesn’t work on most sites.

@765 Well they do updated the browsers during most updates but I think there just adding new versions of flash and others.
Well this update well works for me but i guess is because I have the 160GB and it was built last year. Y’all can try backing up all your saved data and putting in safe mode and re-updating it and see how well it works.
Safe mode, hmmm i can’t back up anything sense i don’t have many GB’s to back up with. I’ll give it try then and see what happens. AT 767 u may have good idea i never try once yet.
is there way to back it up to my laptop if i have usb both ways then? or how about online back or something? i have 8GB and 4GB USB drive only. My laptop has 160GB’s total.

@771 you got to hold power button into it beeps 3 times then follow the instructions that it tells you make sure you have a USB.

Just to illustrate why it’s not a reasonable argument: you shouldn’t knock skinning a live rabbit and wearing it as a handpuppet to swear at preschoolers …UNTIL YOU’VE TRIED IT YOURSELF.
And the only lag I experience with the PlayStation is in its archaic menu systems and icon load times. Like waiting upwards of 15 seconds for my game list icons to show up so the menus become navigable. THAT I think is unreasonable.
My gaming connectivity is fine … because my internet connection is fine. Only other slow transfer I experience is in the PS Store, and guys … PS online is free. If you can’t stomach a throttled download from the store, your perspective and priorities are way off.
If you experience a bad connection on the PS3, it’s probably your fault. Seriously. Get better internet.

Just wanted to update everyone on my update (3.66) experience… my alternate unit ( used when I put my other in the shop) has just finished DLing the update and at 54% complete registered a failure to complete error and is now in an endless loop of attempts to finish the update… now pay attention sony, this is 2 systems in 2 days that have been crashed by your ill formed updates… I have a 40gb that is bricked and will not load anything ( thanks to voluntary update 3.65) and an 80gb that is in the endless error loop (epic fail for the 3.66 update) at 54%.
I am currently out of units to put in service so I can continue to game… guess I will have to stop buying sony systems and find other creative outlets to pursue with my free time because I think I’ve had enough of making sony richer while system after system turns into paperweights, I have been gaming since the days of the Altair and timex computers ( thats pre- commodore and tandy / IBM PS computer days) so I am not another teen with separation issues acting out over game withdrawal… I am a man in his 50’s who truly loves the cerebral and strategic exercise that gaming provides…. it is frustrating to know that the PS3 has become the system you never quite own as much as lease ( I’m hard pressed to believe that the frequent breakdowns are not planned obsolescence and as such a part of the sony business model).
If an automaker had a vehicle model that broke down as much as a PS3 it would be recalled and permanently repaired or replaced to prevent litigation in the publics interest ( come to think of it toyota had this problem not long ago) so there it is, after the EPIC FAIL of sony last month and the continuingly cavalier treatment of its customer base I surrender and will not spend another penny on anything with the sony logo
And somebody explain to me why cross-game chat is at all important. PLEASE.

After the update, every time I try to play zombies (either online, solo, or split-screen) the game freezes. What do I do???
instead of thinking of system updates as annoying thing that slow you down…..think of it as somthing that will improve your system or make it more secure! thats what i do
@784 BO has been having freezing problems it could be new firmware or the game what I would do is try another game see if it freezes. I’m sure sony is aware and working on a possible new update.

788 is alot for comments but anyway, i ask 4 help there told me to being it in for repairs and there said it will cost 99$ so. i was like no way, just to fix freezing problem. If there is xbox 360 fan and you think its better the PS3 give me rate of 1-10 if its good rate i may just go out to buy one again and later i’ll make video of me and my PS3. The res in the video guess what i’ll do to my ps3.

wow now i got told it will cost 299$ to fix it, i just got it in mail just now. That crazy, no way i’ll waste all my hard own $ on thing. Come on sony that being evil to fix one thing, i pay 289$ for my PS3 slim at walmart.
i am not going to waste money on PS3 again, i am getting xbox 360 with 4GB with that thing remote which look cool.
you did that’s crazy if you want to get an xbox get one are you diagnose your problem with the support site I know they were doing a good deal awhile back not sure if now.

I hope you have no problems with your 360 if thats what you choose to do, i’m happy with mine, i have had no problems with my 360, but then again the way both systems have been its the luck of the draw i guess, ya either get a good one or a faulty one, seems like 360 and ps3 are running neck and neck in the faulty department

my friend ask me if i am going to sell my ps3 now and i am not sure. I would hate to sell something that will freeze up on them. My PS3 is still new as when i brought on that Christmas day i’ll never forget.
If i do get xbox360 it will be slim model one, i like shining things, :) and sense i don’t have anything to play right now, i am going to be bored out of my mind until i get my psp fix or buy xbxox 360 slim. 1st got to save up and work hard at my job to pay good.
