E3 2011: Bodycount is Back!

Benjamin Bateman's Avatar + Posted by Benjamin Bateman on Jun 24, 2011 // Community Manager, Codemasters

Bodycount is back and I’m here to divulge all the juicy intel. The Codemasters Guildford studio has been tightly clammed since last year’s E3 so you’d be forgiven for asking, what is Bodycount?

Bodycount is an adrenaline-inducing, explosive torrent of action, destruction and gun ecstasy. It’s an FPS that puts the fun back into firepower. But these words can barely do it justice, so here’s our brand new gameplay trailer from E3.

Right off the bat you can see the explosive boom-stick that is the shotgun, and it really sums up what Bodycount is. This isn’t just another shooter; this is a gun centerfold that gives you amazingly satisfying guns that you will never forget. The mantra in the team has been ‘gun, bullet, world’ – everything is focused on the experience of squeezing the trigger, hearing bullets tear through the air and watching them obliterate enemies and the environment. Every gun has been carefully crafted for your gaming pleasure. Bodycount has everything from a deadly pistol all the way up to super-charged futuristic weaponry used by your elusive enemies, ‘The Target’.

Bodycount

Bullets, naturally, are never in short supply and but it’s their effect in the world that completes this glorious firing feedback loop as you shred through enemies and the environment. Whether it’s wood, glass, body armor… it rips up and splinters as you unleash the pain on the world around you. It doesn’t just look cool and make you feel great, but it gives you the opportunity to rip through your enemies cover, and they in turn yours. It makes for an unstoppable river of pyrotechnics as you travel the globe you get to tear through warzones in Africa, city streets in Asia and mysterious bases as you hunt the ‘Target’ across the globe.

Bodycount

There’s only so much we can fit into one blog post, so this is where we hand the reins over to you. Have you got a question for the developers? Who are the ‘Target’? Perhaps you want to know what multiplayer modes are up for grabs? Whatever your question just put it into the comments and we’ll pick it up for a Community Q&A in the following weeks.

If you want to keep tabs on all things Bodycount don’t forget that you can find us on Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube. You can even speak directly to the Games Director, Andy Wilson (@andygwilson) and Andrew Parsons our Experienced Level Designer (@AP_Codies) on twitter.

I wish I could monitor these boards and delete all posts that have nothing to do with the topic at hand. By the way…56th!!!!!

I think this game looks kick ass. I loved Bulletstorm and this looks to be in a similar vein. As long as you all at Codemasters promise not to make Damnation 2, I’ll buy Bodycount. That would be unforgivable.

Here are my questions about bodycount.

1) Is this the bodycount that is viewed as a direct sequel to the game black on the ps2? Last I read, the folks at Criterion were working on this game with the same team involved.

2) Why is codemasters working on this game. Criterion made black and they were working on bodycount. Money issues with Criterion

3) Will the ps3 version include things not found on the xbox 360 version?

4) Will move support be included?

5) Will sharpshooter support be included?

6) Will there be a collector’s edition made?

7) Will there be any references to the original game black such as returing weapons, characters, etc?

8) How many levels will there be? In black, the amount was 8.

Improve the graphics then you can discuss your future with my money. Reminded me of Metal Gear Solid on PS1

Hi marlyt: I wish the same. If people are not interested in a game or a game genre at all or don’t have any actual info to share, or say something positive, it behooves me why they click the link and write something negative. I can understand if someone bought an item from Codemasters in the past and wrote something off color. But short of that its mostly uncalled for and counter productive.

Its good to see a nice amount of cool looking games coming out throughout the summer!
I really dig the future-ish art style and destructible environment. It looks pretty effing awesome.

I watched my nephew play Black a while back, and it looked really cool. I hope Bodycount will be able to outshine Black as a spiritual successor.

I have the same kinds of questions as 57 above with an addition. Will the trophy list be fun and a little challenging, but still realistically doable? Some trophy lists almost seem like they are made to be impossible so that you won’t even try to get the platinum because of ridiculous goals they want you to achieve. Also, with regards to multiplayer, is there going to be a good sized amount of players on one map, and how well developed is the squad deploy function for people on your friends list? I want to be able to be able to quickly and as hassle-free as possible join up with my friends and move from one match to the next seamlessly with my squad of friends intact.
