Just moments ago during our 2011 E3 press conference we proudly unveiled an incredible 2011 software lineup and amazing new PS3 peripherals, and also shed new light on our highly anticipated handheld gaming device, officially named PlayStation Vita (PS Vita).
By blurring the lines between interactive entertainment and reality, our goal was to design a device that offered a revolutionary combination of rich gaming capabilities and social connectivity, bringing users closer to each other and closer to their gaming experiences wherever they are. Connectivity was a key objective and our goal was to create experiences and content that would challenge the traditional notions of gaming. It was vital to make a device that was an extension of a user’s entertainment world, no matter where one would go.
We hope you just had a chance to watch the PlayStation E3 2011 Press Conference that just wrapped up at the Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena! We were extremely excited to be a part of the show with our live gameplay demo of Resistance 3. You may have also heard about that announcement of the Doomsday Edition of Resistance 3 – containing the game, the PlayStation Move motion controller, the navigation controller, the PlayStation Eye camera, and the sharp shooter – everything you need to have the complete sharp shooter Resistance 3 experience at home on September 6th.
If you missed the conference, our stage demo took place in the streets of St. Louis circa 1957. We catch up with Joseph Capelli as he works with a group of young rebels waging a guerilla war against the Chimera. This group calls themselves The Remnants, and Capelli joins forces with them to stage a daring ambush on a Chimeran dropship, hoping to acquire its valuable power core. Things go bad quickly, and we jump forward in the interest of time to show you what happens when a third participant, a feral Chimeran Widowmaker, enters the battle.
All of Naughty Dog has been looking forward to tonight ever since we announced Uncharted 3 with Entertainment Weekly and showed it for the first time at the SPIKE VGA show back in December. And just a few minutes ago, if you were watching the SCEA Press Conference on any of the live streams, you go to see what we’ve been working so hard to be able to show you!
At the SCEA Press Conference, our Co-Presidents, Evan and Christophe, took the stage and with just a short intro, launched into the first live demo of Uncharted 3 ever shown publicly. The brief Cruise Ship sequence shows just a small slice of one of the most challenging scenarios we’ve concocted for any of the Uncharted games – as a massive, moving environment of the Cruise Ship gets turned on its side mid-battle, Drake has to scramble for his life.
DUST 514 is a very different type of game. Yes, many people say this about their respective game titles — everyone thinks their baby is special, right? We really mean it though.
When playing your FPS title of choice, have you ever wished that there was something more to it beyond your rank, weapon unlocks, your kill/death ratio and leaderboard prominence? Those things are all great – but what if those matches you fought in actually meant something? What if your successes and failures against your opponents impacted the course of events in a vast setting, potentially changed a virtual world and the gameplay experience of thousands of other players?
DUST 514 is that game.
PlayStation has long been synonymous with technology and innovation and with the upcoming launch of PlayStation Vita, this year is no different. In addition to delivering an unparalleled gaming experience with PS Vita, we’re expanding the PlayStation 3 offering with a number of new products that will bring you some of the most immersive gaming experiences on the market.
Among the new technology unveiled at E3 is the 3D Display, which features a 24” LCD screen with full HD 1080p 3D presentation. Available at retailers nationwide starting this fall, the 3D Display is uniquely enhanced for gaming with a special two-player feature, offering best-in-class visuals in both 2D and 3D. The 3D Display utilizes an exclusive feature that optimizes two-player mode by delivering individual full HD screens, giving each person their own full screen view of the action on the same display while playing co-op or head-to-head.
Let me dish out some home truths here. The BioShock universe hasn’t always treated the PlayStation community super well. The first game came out on PS3 over a year after launch on other platforms. To Sony fans, that probably read as, “Hey, what are we? Chopped liver?”
Irrational Games came to the press conference to say Sony fans are not chopped liver. How’s them for bold words? They’re fans who have embraced innovation. Who champion cool, weird stuff like Flower and LittleBigPlanet. Who seek out content from all over the globe.
But I’m also here to back our commitment up with action. Like Move integration. Like a new game set in the BioShock universe on PS Vita. Like a free copy of BioShock 1 with each copy of BioShock Infinite on PS3 to ensure that everyone in the PlayStation world gets a chance to see how the whole BioShock magilla began.
Like UNCHARTED
Over the years on the E3 stage, we’ve talked about the “PlayStation family” – our enthusiastic fans and loyal supporters around the world. This year, “PlayStation family” has taken on an increasingly important meaning. I personally want to thank each and every one of you for your patience during the recent PlayStation Network outage. We are extremely grateful for your passion and loyalty. The PlayStation community is stronger and more vibrant than ever and, as detailed a few minutes ago during the E3 press conference, we’re going to thank you for your loyalty with new gaming and entertainment experiences on PlayStation and PSN that will continue to affirm our leadership.
