At the very beginning of the Sniper: Ghost Warrior project, we were aiming to have the game available on all platforms from day one. In the end, we had to make the tough decision to delay the PS3 version for several months so that we could fully maximize the experience for its audience. But with that delay, we knew that when we did ship the PS3 version (in stores today!) we could make sure that it was superior to the version available on other platforms.
One of the first things we did in the interim period was to really look at every element of the game to assess what we could do to make those improvements. Bug fixing was the first and most obvious step, but we desperately wanted to use the extra development time to give PS3 owners more content and therefore a better sniping experience. We added two bolt-action sniper rifles that we discovered had a profound impact on gameplay; if you can’t kill enemies quickly then you have to choose your target more wisely.
“Video games qualify for First Amendment protection. Like protected books, plays and movies, they communicate ideas through familiar literary devices and features distinctive to the medium. And ‘the basic principles of freedom of speech…do not vary’ with a new and different communication medium.” – Justice Antonin Scalia, writing for the majority in Brown v. Entertainment Merchants Association/Entertainment Software Association, June 27, 2011
The First Amendment is alive and well in America, thanks to a landmark U.S. Supreme Court ruling issued this week. The Court decisively struck down a 2005 California law attempting to restrict the sale and rental of computer and video games. This means creative expression will continue to flourish free of censorship and that consumers will retain the right to choose their own entertainment, despite California’s best attempts to surrender those rights to government.
We are thrilled! Our first PS3 title, Puzzle Dimension, will hit the North American PlayStation Store later this afternoon! Doctor Entertainment is a small indie studio from Uppsala in Sweden and we have worked hard to bring “aha!” moments to you PSN gamers. The moment when the solution to a problem hits you is called an “aha!” or “Eureka!” moment. It is a feeling of satisfaction and the brain dances… that is the feeling that we want to let you experience with the 100 puzzles in Puzzle Dimension.
The rules are very simple. You control a ball that can jump and move in four directions. Your mission is to roll the ball on 3D structures, pick up flowers and reach the exit. It sounds simple enough, but the puzzles get more complex and new types of blocks are gradually introduced to constantly give you new challenges.
