“AllClear ID Plus” Identity Theft Protection Offer Extended Through July 31st

A friendly reminder to all eligible PlayStation Network and Qriocity account holders, Sony Computer Entertainment and Sony Network Entertainment International have made arrangements with Debix, Inc., one of the industry’s most reputable identity protection firms, to offer AllClear ID Plus at no cost for 12 months from the time an account holder registers for the program.

This AllClear ID Plus Identity Theft Protection offer in the United States has been extended through July 31, 2011.

The details of the program include, but are not limited to:

  • Cyber monitoring and surveillance of the Internet to detect exposure of an AllClear ID Plus customer’s personal information, including monitoring of criminal web sites and data recovered by law enforcement. If his/her personal information is found, the customer will be alerted by phone and/or email and will be provided advice and support regarding protective steps to take. The customer will also receive monthly identity status reports. Debix works with an alliance of cyber-crime experts from the government, academia and industry to provide these services.
  • Priority access to licensed private investigators and identity restoration specialists. If an AllClear ID Plus customer receives an alert, or otherwise suspects that he/she may be the victim of identity theft, the customer can speak directly, on a priority basis, with an on-staff licensed private investigator, who will conduct a comprehensive inquiry. In the case of an identity theft, the customer can work with an identity restoration specialist to contact creditors and others, and take necessary steps to restore the customer’s identity.
  • A $1 million identity theft insurance policy per user to provide additional protection in the event that an AllClear ID Plus customer becomes a victim of identity theft. This insurance would provide financial relief of up to $1 million for covered identity restoration costs, legal defense expenses, and lost wages that occur within 12 months after the stolen identity event.

Please go to http://us.playstation.com/news/consumeralerts/identity-theft-protection/ and enter your email address to get started. We will announce our plans for ID protection for Canada and Latin America soon.

  • BOOM!!

  • Shockalocka!!

  • What happens after 12 months> You pay for it?

  • I have emailed several times asking about coverage in Canada and you guys have not gotten back to me. I take it there is no plans?

  • Already sign up.

  • As usual the rest of the world is left out. Typical.

  • Dear Matt Levitan, Kyle Moffatt, Ashley Beaulac and whoever else has responded to my repeated criticisms of the extremly poor support SCEC provides to Canadian Playstation fans,

When are you going to stop making excuses for your poor results and start doing what’s necessary to provide Canadians with the support we deserve?

2 years after the US for PSN cards is not acceptable, 2 years after the US for a video store is not acceptable, almost no contests comparred to the frequent and plentiful contests Americans get is not acceptable. A website and a facebook page you do nothing with is not acceptable(spaming which NHL arenas have demo stations set up at and nothing else is not making proper use of playstation.ca or your facebook page). Only 3-4 blog posts/year is not acceptable.

And finally, It’s been almost 4 months since PSN was hacked and you still haven’t even made one press release to Canadians about what you’re doing for Canadians. It is unacceptable that we haven’t even herd one word from you about the identity theft protection offer for us. Jeff Rubenstein said you told him you’re working on it but HOW ABOUT TELLING US THAT YOURSELVES AND I DON’T KNOW ACTUALLY RELEASING THE INFORMATION!

  • @6
Dude relax they said they’ll be working with LOCAL agencies to provide basically the same service…If you live on a place on which credit monitoring isn’t a big deal that’s you damn business.

I’m tired of ppl just posting how they can’t get crap on their countries/territories, we should not allow your foreign IP adresses to acces American websites, that way we’ll also prevent hacking…

  • I for one, am fed up of Sony Computer Entertainment Canada’s excuses. When is someone from SCEA or SCEI or whoever oversees SCEC going to step in and fix this.

  • only America again :(

  • @7

I won a Sony facebook competition and i’m from Ireland lol

  • Yeah it’s only U.S. Because it’s the best country ever. And it says protection for Canada will be announced SHORTLY. If you are from canada get some glasses so you can read better

  • Ha ha, if you’re going to @reply someone, @reply with their username. There are often posts deleted, hidden posts awaiting moderation because they have a link in them etc and the post number you’re replying too will change.

  • When I went in to sign up for it, it was asking me weird things like the password to my e-mail address. That’s kinda like … dealbreaker? And it was a required field?

    I dunno.

  • @krae_man you forgot the PSP comic store!

  • @adolson

Sony Canada does so many things poorly, it’s impossible to list them all un under 1250 characters!

  • @15 and Music Unlimited

We will announce our plans for ID protection for Canada and Latin America soon……and in the meantime we do what?

(BTW…in Canada just call the credit bureau and tell them you want credit fraud protection…it is free by law (they will try and upsell you stuff you don’t need). You will register a phone number and any time credit is applied for they will call you at said phhone number to confirm you are actually applying for credit).

  • SCEA isn’t a bowl of cherries either. Still seems that even WITHIN Sony departments they still don’t communicate to each other and thus to the public well AT ALL.

4 years of blog visitors crying for Grace to be replaced…still here. ;)

  • Uh how about the Canadian ID protection?
You seem to be pleasantly forgetting the north here.

  • Okay, I’ll try again for the third time. Still never gotten my email. :(

  • All you Canada guys should be on the UK blog and not this one. Or partition Sony to get your own. I always hear about UK getting stuff first, so it happens to every one.

I haven’t signed up, and probably won’t. All I see is 12 months go by and I forget to cancel…. All of a sudden I get stuck with a bill.

I do want a better trophy tag like Europe has. The American one can’t be customized.

  • Still waiting on the offer for Canada…

  • All you people complaining about this only being for the US and not having any info for Canada… THIS IS THE US BLOG. You’re not going to find information about other territories here. Quit your [DELETED]. Seriously. It gets old.

  • nice all read sign up do

  • “Yeah it’s only U.S. Because it’s the best country ever”

And the most shortminded for the things u must read here… pffft

  • [DELETED]….. this is good and all but pls sony u want to reward us just give us XGC PLS!!!! i dont know how to ask for it anymore! the community want this!! PLS LISTEN TO US PLS!!! sigh…. this is frustrating u know…. did u know that Demons Souls didnt have in game chat so i needed to text with my friends EVERYTHING? do u know how frustrating is that??! if we had XCHAT the game would be even sweeter! but hey wtf the game servers are closing soon and i never could experience the xchat in it…. so PLS ill ask one more time! make the update PLS!

  • how about Asian protection like Malaysia..it still safe too

  • Well first off…… Sony i just want to say that you should have been better prepared for a situation like this and i hope you are prepared to a [DELETED] load of lawsuits aimed at you guys……maybe next time…. you should have a system similiar to Blizzards Authenticator system something that tells me whens someones logging on to my account but not from my location then you could lock my account down..oh and btw “Sony and its designees can use my ideas and submissions in any way they see fit without notice, attribution or compensation to me, pursuant to the Terms of Use” wow really? funny because i recall that some hacker had the idea of putting the internet on psp and then you sued him and took that idea oh and as a heads up your internet system for the psp really needs to make use of more memory it’s unacceptable to have such a low qualtiy garbage app is this the so called incentives that make me wanna update my psp? Pshhh time to vist the brewery

  • Solid-Snake-Eyes

Announcing Canadian plans soon? If anyone was going to steal my identity they’ve sure had a long time to do who knows what with it.

  • Guys at Playstation Network, could you please make a patch so the error “80710102” get really fixed, because everytime I need to reconfigure my router, I mean, right now I can’t get in PSN so I can’t play Battlefield Bad Company 2, I can access internet trough PS3 BUT I CAN NOT access PSN, why the f$%k is that happening, so next time you make a patch to download it, can you fix that please, is not fair that thing is happening to thousands of users around the world, PLEASE!!

  • And now, I’ve been trying to reconfigure it but nothing happens, plus I try the internet connection and it gives me at the Obtain IP and Connection to Internet says DONE but gives me an ERROR at Playstation Network, please guys!!

  • @bakerarmy:
How do you figure? We’re part of NA (and, consequently, Region 1), not the EU. The UK blog has absolutely no bearing on Sony’s North American branches.

Personally, playstation.ca should have its own blog (not that it’d see a whole lot of activity, but I digress). Petitioning Sony isn’t going to do a whole hell of a lot, either. While it does take time to go through all the specifics, laws, and credit agencies, it’s been ~2 months since the last update. If they’ve decided not to offer anything due to our national Credit Bureau’s ability to secure us, that’s perfectly fine, but we’d at least like an answer.

In any case, the only people that should be exempt from participating in blog discussions is anyone trying to throw others out.

  • You guys are doing great, keep up the good work. LOVE MY PS3

  • @27 Demon’s Souls isn’t supposed to have in game chat. It’s set up like that on purpose to create a specific feel.

  • Sony I hope you read this although it has nothing to do with the topic.
Sony i am a valued Ps3 customer and i would like for you guys to bring gaming competitions to my country Trinidad & Tobago in the Caribbean. I see there are lots of competitions in the US and they look fun. I would really like if you take this matter into consideration thanks for reading. Your’s Truly : Darion Noel

  • WHY cAN’T WE GET PS PLUS ON THE PSP? :(

  • i think black op’s zombies should have another power up called ??????? but it will gives you unlimited ammo for 30 seconds I INVENTED IT ME potatoboy8 NO ONE ELSE DID! any gun spread it around I FOUND A NAME RIGHT NOW ~ UnLiMiTeD AmMo ~ LOL

  • prof_hockenberry

Hey Pat(rick), any word on when us Canadians get it???

  • @21 That is th most idiotic thing i’ve read hear in a while.

  • Still waiting for word on the Canadian program.
We were told details would be coming “Shortly” back on May 5, over TWO MONTHS ago!
    How soon is soon?

  • we have to pay for security i thought u said it was free!

  • LOL SONY has found another way to scam money from its customers. Twelve months free then you have to pay for protection. People stop being scammed by spending money in the PS network.

  • I’ve followed the link and put my email in twice in the past two weeks and still no email. I just did it again and I will wait 72hrs, if no email again who do I contact?

  • To the person who told canada not going to find info here and stuff because it’s US, well, this is not, it’s an NA blog/site, this site here covers both canada and the US. So yes, this is a place where canadians also go to find info. This blog posts include both canada and US, and usually everything posted on the blog includes canada (all of NA) unless otherwise stated

  • This service isn’t even the one that AllClearID offers for $9.99 a month. Basically anyone can get this service for free from them. I recently applied (and qualified) for a new credit card and according to the wording about their service, I was supposed to receive notice of a change in my credit line. I got no call for them. When I called to inquire I was told Sony didn’t want that service for it’s customers, but they will help you if you suspect some fraud. Isn’t the whole point for THEM to look out for fraud? What a joke. Complete window dressing that amounts to nothing.

  • @MadMeat001 The PlayStation PSP is being phased out by the PlayStation Vita. That’s why the PSP only costs $129.00 new now instead of $250.00. I am assuming this is also why PlayStation Plus is not compatible with PSP. It may be compatible with PlayStation Vita though. Once the Vita comes out the PSP will be totally phased out and the Universal Media Disc games will be totally discontinued. If any Universal Media Discs are still around after the Vita comes out, they will be the very last few new ones before they are only available used at a used game store or only available through Amazon or eBay.

  • I actually meant to say the Universal Media Disc format will be totally discontinued. It would not just be the games since the Universal Media Disc movies and Universal Media Disc music discs are already discontinued.

  • The reason this will happen is because the PlayStation Vita has a VGC (Video Game Card) reader instead of a Universal Media Disc reader like the PSP has.
