Call of Duty: Black Ops: Annihilation Map Pack for PS3 (Zombies: Shangri La)

First Strike was fun. Escalation rocked. But Call of Duty: Black Ops fans want more – they crave new battlegrounds and new experiences. Black Ops developer Treyarch knows this, so they’ve been busy creating another fresh batch of DLC maps: Annihilation. The newest add-on content will be ready for download from the PlayStation Store starting Thursday, July 28th.

Annihilation features four new standard multiplayer arenas – Silo, Hangar 18, Drive-In and Hazard – and the deadly jungle Zombies experience, Shangri-La. “The goals we set were about quality and variety,” says Treyarch’s Online Director, Dan Bunting. “We wanted to make everything feel unique and distinct.”

Annihilation delivers on those goals with five all-new environments:

Drive-In: This one-time American movie paradise once showed war movies; now it’s the location for one. The holes in the screen have been filled with snipers. The popcorn is stale, but they’re still serving up hot lead in the concession stand. “Drive-In is a small map, very fast paced,” says Treyarch’s Online Director, Dan Bunting (the nice bearded man from all those behind-the-scenes videos). “It’s similar to Nuketown in that it’s a fast, close-quarters map.”

Hazard: Ah, the Cuban good life! This swanky golf course features lush greens, oceanic driving ranges, and long-range sniping opportunities straight down its deadly fairway. Never mind getting a hole in one — try not to get lots of holes in you. Those skilled with assault rifles and sniper rifles will enjoy this one.

Silo: If you’ve ever said to yourself, “This is a great map, but what it really needs are missiles launching right next to my ear, so every time I line up to snipe someone, I pee myself instead” – and really, who hasn’t? – this is the map for you. Muddy sloped terrain, a smattering of construction equipment, and a few carefully placed sniper towers make this military outpost a tactical challenge regardless of game type.

Hangar 18: This one’s a tribute to the Groom Lake military base where the government developed the SR-71 Blackbird – or, depending on the conspiracy theories you choose to believe, where they stored a recovered alien spacecraft. Either way, you’ll be in an out of buildings frequently here, not to mention using a multi-million-dollar piece of reconnaissance aircraft for cover. But that’s not the only secret project it’s hiding. “Hangar 18 has a couple of fun easter eggs,” hints Bunting. “I can’t talk about them because it would ruin them.”

Shangri-La: Welcome to the jungle, where the Zombies have taken over an ancient shrine. But be extra careful – the environment’s many hidden tricks and deadly traps can be used against you as easily as your undead enemies. “It’s one of the more creative and clever map designs we’ve got so far,” says Bunting with pride. “The diehard fans are really going to appreciate the story hooks in this one as well.”

Annihilation will be available in the PlayStation Store July 28th — less than two weeks away. And as is the custom, the weekend that follows will offer all players double XP in celebration. See you at the drive-in!

  • @88, mw2’s map packs costed 10$

  • @Really_Confused

not when newly released. cuz i paid $15 each the day they came up on ps store

  • @89

    shh, don’t say anything…

  • If you thought I was making “fun” of your lastname that is on you – Mr. Sensative. Not me. I wasn’t making fun of your last name in the least, but considering the “pun” I figured you would have gotten atleast that much. I guess all those fancy words and a bit of literacy did not help you much there did it Mr. Amrich? Pfft. I’m glad you like to use the “big” words, but when you are ready to get off your high horse and come down a bit. Then come back to the people and be genuine.

If you are such a genuine guy then to be honest you’d notice just how, “pompous” they act.

    • It’s just not cool to make fun of people’s names when you’re trying to have a conversation about something else entirely.

      I accept your apology though.

  • @82 to Dan, in the behind the scenes video for this new map pack they talk about how hazard is based on a WAW map. So thats a form but to your second point I would definitely dig getting those zombie maps. Come on treyarch give em up.

  • @103

    O really?

lol idk i had mw2 on pc. Pre ordered it before I knew it was IWnet that was going to be running it.

Cod4 was so fun, imagine Chinatown with 25 players, on each side, in a S&D game, amazing. I was hoping to have that on mw2, LOL WRONG

oh and IWnet didn’t run it, it ruined it so I gave up PC gaming and got a PS3

  • I just got the Escalation Map Pack! After a refund due to inability to install on the first purchase, heck I rebought it; glad I did. My ISP told me to change my DSN settings on the PS3 on the second purchase and install fail. The new settings worked! I like the maps! I’ll certainly be buying the Annihilation Maps as well. Really like the Drive-In Map, that one should be a lot of fun!

  • ok the party has started. dink for every one

LOok A 5 star inthe rating box on t thes blogs is like hand shake, A sign of respect. A one is like the finger a sign of disrespect. Now we have been giving activision games the number 1 on the blogs for along time. Becuase they dont repsect us with there cod games every one is releeased with problems. It has has nothing to do with dlc priceing or etc beucase none here or there can control pricing. But I know alot a few best selling games like la noire are selling theirs for 5$, rdr sellin sum for 9$.

Hey look nothing versus you personally your good guy just doing your job. I respect that.. but like you said ” you cant juar give away thing just becuase someone walkis in looking hungry”. We will not being giving out 5 to any activision post till start they shape with there games on our console. I dont make the rules im explaining them . Nothing versus u personally

  • drinks* typo..

I would also like to add if can talk the activision panel about lowering the price of dlc to about 8-9$ that would help . I dont think you can compare other exclusive made content to what cod has done towards the ps3 fan base.

They give us bad port every single time, not onc eor twice. but every single time cod games have been bad ports.. Hey im not cod franchise player or buyer. Im socomer i play the socom franchise. i could care less about cod sales or franchise. It is t he concern of my peers here and everyone the playstaion brand.. You guys at activison have to start doing things right by us. Thats not a demand its a mutal speaking..

I cant take away any sales ., i dont control anyones wallet or brains.. im stating the point to moot. Nothing versus you personally, just activison. i sorry but your post will get rated a 1..

  • You can’t even write complete, coherent sentences….How the hell do you expect anyone to take anything you say as anything more than a joke?…

  • I think this deal with microsoft is making them lose money, for me anyway i’m just not excited for map packs anymore because i’ve seen the gameplay already from the xbox version and it doesn’t feel “New” anymore… I’ve only bought the first map pack, but for World at War when xbox and ps3 map packs came out at the same time I bought them all.

  • i hope this map pack is worth it

  • LoL hopefully not many people buy this crap. Activision is always giving us ps3 owners the shaft. $15 for a few maps for this crappy game? you got to be kidding me. I still have my copy of black ops but only time i play it is when my friends ask me to.

I rather play much better games such as uncharted, killzone and battlefield not call of dooty.

  • I have to say this is the most amazing blog I’ve read in the last 4 months.
Mr. Amrich, thank you, I hope you don’t get into trouble for telling the truth & I someday see you blog about a game I care about (sorry, not a COD player)

I agree with marlyt. Some of the posters here are embarrassingly rude, but being anonymous gives them imaginary balls.

  • Wow…It’s funny. I made a suggestion to add another map pack for MW2 on their forum. And nothing, No reponse for a 3rd map pack for a game that people still go back and play. Meanwhile C.O.D. Black Ops is coming out with other map pack trying to put themselves on a higher pedastool than MW2, Which in my opinion is garbage. MW2 should have been the 1 to set the president for 3 map packs to comeout for a C.O.D. Not Crap Ops. See the forum feed below, If you agree or would like to make your own point:

  • this will be awesome i love zombies and play it daily cant wait for this, is this the final map pack release that we will see or will there be one more?

  • did anyone else see this? on the main blog page dan put retaliation not escalation!
sorry dan but you just confirmed the 4th map pack

    • Nope, sorry. Even I make mistakes, and if you assume it was some sort of confirmation of something, that’s your mistake. :)

  • Im not a big fan of CoD, mainly because competitive online FPS shooters ain’t my cup of tea, i suck at these online. BUT, i still enjoy the single player campaign, the characters, the always awesome zombie mode, the trophys aren’t that bad either! If theres one thing where im good at in FPS shooters online, it would be coop hands down, thats why i really dig the zombie experience. My brothers friend gave me his copy of Black Ops for absolutely free, because he bought the brand new PS3 Black Ops bundle cause his PS3 died a few months ago.

I do find that the map packs are just a little bit overpriced, but thats just my opinion. One thing that would be great would be to have the map packs that the Hardened/Prestige edition have (the W@W maps with the Black Ops weapons). I think it would also be great if we could buy the maps seperatly, like for those who only whats the zombie map, they buy it seperatly and so on, because i don’t really have any use of the multiplayer maps.

  • can someone tell me why i cant purchase anything off the store it gives me an error plz answer

  • Ofcourse I will be getting this for the awesome multiplayer maps and the fun zombie maps so I can play with my friends. For future DLC, why not lower the price? You guys already make so much off of these map packs and the games themselves.

  • Can’t wait until the devilish pact between Activision and Microsoft to be over. Hopefully this time Sony makes XBOX players feel what we PS3 players felt for waiting an entire month to get new content. I mean sure it wasn’t that bad but it wasn’t pleasent to know that your XBOX friends were playing Stadium or Hotel before you.
    Woot Woot 2012 woot woot 2012 =D

  • I can’t believe that I still see comments on how bad it is that PS3 gets the map packs after XBOX, and that it’s Sony’s fault, or whatever—It is hard to believe that after 2 years of this, that people don’t know that this is a Microsoft deal that has been going on for that long and that it will be going on through 2012—It’s only 30 days—Relax—It’s not Sony’s fault—

  • don’t buy this its looks like bad maps

  • Oh, and the comments about how bad it is that it is $15, wow,…..I don’t know where to even begin with that—It’s $15………

  • Any reason why CoD never have dedicated servers? i mean for a game that sell millions and probably generate billions im surprised by how low the company spends to support the game and make it even bigger, why not use the money to create some kind of a cross platform play? you know something like portal 2 did with PS3 and Steam, cant we have a CoD game where people on PSN can play against people on Xbox? with money everything possible and if portal 2 did it i know for sure that a company that generates billions can do it

  • Sorry gamers…my ISP told me to change my DNS settings not DSN, in so doing I was finally able to install Escalation. All the best to you.

  • Are you working on putting the players in matches with the same rankings. New players have a hard time gaining points when they are playing maxed out players, or will you make add-on’s that can be bought, so players who can’t play 24-7 can get to the same level and compete. Too many sandbagers getting easy points. There should be some way to even the battles.

  • Like other’s have said, I’m super impressed with you Mr. Dan Amrich. It takes guts to address the commentors here. But I’m still not understanding why people need to come in here and flame COD. If there’s ever an article posted about a game I don’t like, I just don’t click on it.

    • This is one of the mysteries of the internet. There is a segment of the population that would rather make themselves upset about things than spend time doing something that makes them happy. I don’t get it, because I’m not one of those people. But you know, I see them in a lot of places — it’s absolutely not a PS3 fan thing. :)

  • @ Dan Amrich

I have been having ridiculous amounts of trouble getting into matches on Black Ops with or without my friends eversince the PSN came back online. No other game gives me hassles like this. What’s really going on?

  • @3: They give you a date and you still get angry? You should be thankful at these awesome people.

  • Hi Dan, I appreciate you bothering to answer the minor questions we ask. I would like to know if you play black ops and whats your favorite weapon?

    • I’m not a very good shot, but I play. I like the Galil but I’m getting better with the Aug. My secondary is almost always the Strela-3 because I like to take out aircraft and support the team’s goals that way. I can’t always hit other players, but I can hit a helicopter with a homing missile! :)

Oh, yeah — I almost always play Domination for the reasons cited above. I can progress and be a team player even if I’m not an expert marksman.

  • I think you may have missed the point in my post. I’m not talking about buggy games in general. I get that that happens. I do web-development from time to time (PHP/SQL) and so I have a moderate understanding of how tricky things can be.

What I’m referring to is the porting and overall lack of testing in general for the game, specifically on the PS3 version. When I talked about the MP being nearly unplayable, I’m talking about non-stop system lock ups and the inability to play more than a match. Something that SHOULD have been caught in the “testing” that supposedly went on.

Many of us simply just don’t want to support a company that is only really willing to put effort on one console, despite the game being multi-platform. If we could see some kind of real effort from Activision to put pressure on Treyarch/Infinityward to dedicate equal time in development and testing for each platform, things might be different. But when it becomes super obvious that our version isn’t even being tested, it kills any faith we might have in the series.

We really just want the versions to be equal and treated equally. If we could get at least that much, we wouldn’t care so much about the side deals that go on.

  • dear mr. dan amrich

as much as i hate call of duty, cause borderlands is the greatest fps ever, i have to say that you have guts answering all questions whether its a fan mail or a hate mail, just for that i will try blops, and play the zombie game, since i love zombie games

    • I like Borderlands too. I played through the whole campaign in co-op with my wife on PC. It was great.

  • not sure why but the preview still says retaliation (annihilation was meant to be retaliation but another game had just got it)

  • HI! Im from argentina i love playstation and i just wanna ask why latinamerican pepole like my dosen`t have Store?
    LONG LIVE SONY!!

  • You know I still wish that they would Sell zombie maps separately with the multiplayer maps, multiplayer maps are a waste of time to me. Zombies all the way.

  • When is that [DELETED] contract ending, in 2012! Anyway i cant wait for PS Vita, uncharted 3, and Uncharted: GA, and LittleBigPlanet!!!!

  • Game “sharing” is STEALING. It’s sharing your login/password so someone else can download what you have purchased and vice versa, hence the term “sharing.” If you know anyone who does it you should turn them in or at least block them. This piracy drives our costs up as consumers and it’s wrong.

  • I find it funny that Dan Amrich is talking about other company exclusive DLC in-order to make this devilish company look good. Please, get your BS out of here. Not once this entire generation has Activision giving the PlayStation Community the same kind of respect as the “other” community with it comes to their over-hype piece of garbage games.

    @Kakarot247
“XBOX 360 players are doing all the work while the PS3 players reap all the benefits”
What the hell are you smoking. The PS3 version usually launch with the same problems as the 360 and more.

    • It’s not Bs; it’s the same EXACT business deal but from a different perspective. Maybe it’s an inconvenient truth, but it’s still the truth. If you accept that there are exclusives that are not in your favor, you also MUST accept that there are exclusives IN your favor.

The only difference between the COD DLC and the other examples that I cited is that both consoles eventually get the COD DLC. That’s not the case with some of the PS3 exclusives.

  • black ops sucks

  • Zoryu_of_Setsuna

*Whispers to Dan* When the DLC contract expires you should show some love to the PS3 users for awhile, that will definitely cheer everyone up!.

    ;)

  • It looks very good. Especially the zombie map. Can’t wait to play it. But what i really think is that we should atleast get this map free. Playstation Plus isnt really that good.

  • I played these maps on my brothers Xbox, they are way better than the first two map packs. I would really recommend buying these. :D

  • man wish i had the money for this.grr. just got a new tv and crap.

  • will treyarch release the original zombie maps as dlc? please reply

  • @marlyt:

See. It’s nulls such as yourselves that enable the behavior of these companies world wide. You are an “enabler”, and someone who seems to be pretty blind to the obvious. Your logic is just unfounded too. How, can you call it stealing much less “piracy” when it’s really no, different then say if you allowed a friend to borrow your own game. The only difference being digital and physical.

These companies want to set double standards. It’s like them trying to squeeze into the secondary market now with say Sony’s own PlayStation Network Pass program. It’s unecessary to be honest. Especially since these companies have already made a profit (in most cases) on most of these titles coming out. Plus you have to remember the retailers themselves have to purchase the games first which is why people call it “suggested retail value”. The fact is that companies are just getting greedy (well, more and more I should say.)

In the end though it is and always will be the consumer whom suffers most.

I’m done.. This blog sucks. Bunch of nacies in here.

  • This game is getting milked just like Halo..*sigh*.

  • will tryarch make the waw zombie maps dlc?

  • Ps3: Uncharted

    Xbox360: Halo

Mmm its a tie to me
