Hi everyone! As we are continuously working toward providing the best gaming and entertainment experience on PlayStation 3, I wanted to give you all a heads up on the following new features and changes coming with the next system software update (v.3.70).
To make things easier for PlayStation Plus subscribers, we’ve added the option to automate two existing features. The [Automatic Download] feature will now be called [Automatic Update] as a result of these new options.
- A new auto upload function for online save data back-up will be added to make it easier to back-up your game save data. Under (Game), select the game for which you want to automatically upload saved data, and then press the Triangle button.
- Also, Trophies will now sync automatically at the timing of Auto Download.
A new recommendation function will be added that enables you to share your recommendations for PlayStation Store items, such as games and videos, with PlayStation Network friends. You will be able to send messages with a store link from the product pages within the PlayStation Store.
Due to the increase in video applications being offered on PS3, we are adding a new category on the XMB called TV/Video Services. This category will include video applications such as Netflix, Hulu PLUS, and VUDU.
- You’ll be able to find and download all of the video applications available on PS3 directly from this new XMB category.
- A folder labeled “My Channels” within this category will allow you to easily access your downloaded applications.
- Any videos downloaded from the PlayStation store will continue to be placed in the existing Video category on the XMB
Two updates for all of you enjoying Blu-ray 3D movies on PS3:
- 3D support will now be available when accessing Java-based special features on Blu-Ray
- DTS-HD MA, DTS-HD HR decoding/bit stream output (or lossless audio) will be supported while playing Blu-ray 3D movies.
- 3D digital photos in MPO format can now be viewed in 3D on the XMB and in the Photo Gallery app.
The 3.70 update will be available soon; additional details will be available after the firmware goes live here. Separately, there will also be a minor PSP system software update (v. 6.60) launching soon.

funny ppl complaining about the new ps+ updates..they arent anything necessary…and if you are so into gaming why dont you already have plus..its a mere 4 bucks and some change a month..dont go to mcdonalds one day a month and you got your plus..

Will the game saves auto-sync after we save the game, or only at certain intervals? I always upload my game save to the cloud storage after I finish playing the game. If this service does not do this then I don’t see it being all that useful. Same goes for the trophy syncing.
Also, why is everyone complaining about these being PS+ exclusive? These are very minor things. Be happy that online gaming is free, that’s the important part.

WTF since i got the update i cant find my bbci player is sony trying to make this service worse ? i suppose if you pay peanuts you get monkeys get this sorted sony dont give us stuff then take it away again wtf
PS+ (1 year subscription) = $49,99
Discounts for PS+ users = usually 20%
This means that if you have to spend more than $249,95 with online content so this service can be “worth”.
On average $12,00 for each game with discount, it means about 20 to 30 games.
This is without free games you can purchase and other services avaiable for PS+ users.
Before subscribing, I went through the games library avaiable for purchasing and checked a lot of reviews, video gameplays and players feedback. At the end it seemed like a good service for my gaming needs.
I hope this helps anyone thinking about the purchase, but remember: check if this fits your needs.
Anyway, there are good points on a lot of criticism made by users, as this update seems to only serve PS+ users.
You’ll have to do better than this if you want to be even in the same league as other online services. Why does automatic syncing have to be done during auto download??? Why is this “feature” not available to all? And why would it be so difficult to how trophies sync behind the scenes?
So when is XMB 2.0 coming out? You know the one which will integrate the new PSN and services directly into the OS, as opposed to being tacked on. Aside from the Wii the PSN is by far the most inferior online service.
Very upset that Sony has seemingly abandoned the PS3 services in favour for Vita which if history has anything to say will fail just like the PSP’s.
I was playing online without a problem last night. So I get home from work to chill out and play online with my buddies. I downloaded the 3.70 firmware, no problem. But now it won’t recognise my router? My laptop, and iTouch (Yeah I said iTouch, get over it) pick it up just fine. It looks like some of the people above me are having the same problem. For reference, I have the 60GB fat PS3.
And exactly what does plus give us sony give us free games with it?ummm yeah mega drive games WTF all the ps3 games on the store are mega drive worthy even the newer ps3 ones wich i think defeats the point of me buying a damn ps3 get me some ps3 worthy games sony im sick of this stuff your trying to sell me FFS most of the games would have no problem running on the old nintendo 64 so wait up read this a second it aint 1998 no more its 2011 stop bringing games that look like they are for a damn atari out no wonder everyone floks to the xbox

ok ive found bbci player but its changed and 1 there is no loading bar to let us know its loading 2 you cant just hit circle button to quit and 3 you can go stufff this pile of garbage up your exit canal sony i can see you dont think about stuff before releasing it anyone like xbox would have this sorted in a nano sec im a coder on the web and even i could sort this within a couple of days alone so what is taking you guys do you need any more hate mail from your users to get you to pull your finger out ? please do respond ……from your faithfull customer that doesnt like to be messed around….damn where did the days fo ps1 go : )

is it just me or is this update really slow in downloading?
ZOMG, This wasn’t that great of an update. I mean honestly when the heck are we going to get the Cross-Game Chat feature? I’m sick of these promises and never following through! PSN isn’t really going anywhere. The Trophy Sync was a little late, but still! WE WANT OUR CROSS GAME CHAT! You really aren’t listening to your consumers Sony.

Sony, please give us the ability to create video playlists in the next firmware update! It is LONG overdue!
There will be another update in Sept for the new PS3 Headset. I like the idea how now all my new progress will be saved automatically to the cloud server but i don’t like how the automatic trophy sync isn’t instantly at the time of collecting the trophy.
Something else to look in to the PS3 clock for whatever reason seems to become 2 minutes off i find sometime resetting it through the internet several times what is this issue? Why do i have to keep resetting it to display the correct time????
HOW ABOUT THEY STOP ADVERTISING FOR PS PLUS W SYSTEM SOFTWARE UPDATES. WHO EVER IS AHEAD OF PS PLUS CAN GO DYE IN A HOLE. THERE GETTING IN THE WAY OF GOOD SYSTEM SYSTEM SOFTWARE UPDATES AND ITS MAKING PEOPLE MAD.
Bring ESPN 3 into the fold, and I will consider getting PS+.

To be honest, if I wanted to pay for my updates and stuff. I’d probably have an xbox, at least that way I would be paying for a better all around on-line service. This is pretty terrible if you ask me, won’t be subscribing to PS+ and I don’t think I ever will. Looks like I’m going to be stuck with my PS3 the way it is.

Let me get this straight Sony your only giving online saves and trophy syncing to PlayStation Plus members. Thats stupid its like its a game or an add on its something that should be standard to all PS3 users. Yet again Sony you show why Microsoft will always be number 1.

@606. PSP, failed? First handheld by Sony sold nearly 70 million WW, and made sony a good profit. Before PSP nintendo was the only handheld ever to be successfull. To take over 30 % of the market their first try is a failure? get a clue. By that same token PS3 is a failutre being in third, N64 was a failure, so was gamecube, original Xbox…. Clueless.

@634 and 635 MS number 1? In failure rate maybe. In order to get even the most basic features with MS you need to pay for it, not to mention how they over charge grossly for their peripherals, lack of peripheral support…… Ms also has a thin lineup with barly any exclusives outside of 2 shooters.
Newsflash, PS3 has been outselling 360 WW since 2008, despite being 100 more.
MS will always be second rate.
@616, again, they are listening, they simply cannot add XGC due to technical issues, lack of RAM. PSN was not designed to handle XGC, sony messed up with the design of the PS3 from day 1 with regards to software services.. PS4 will be when you get XGC.

Waiting on PS4 for advancements? Don’t! And you really don’t have to. At this point it seems that Sony could do and official overhaul on the entire PS3 experience. Revised XMB, Home integration and an exciting revamp to the PlayStation Store. It would exponentially extend the life cycle of the PS3. The PS3.5 Experience!
ALL SYSTEM SOFTWARE UPDATE DATA SHOULD BE FREE TO EVERYONE.
I had 20 minutes to play Dead Space 2 MP this morning. Guess what I got to do instead? Download an update that I can’t even use, and that should be standard & free. It seriously feels like you’re slowly abandoning all PSN members that haven’t gotten suckered into the laughable Plus program.
I’m not gonna get too dramatic and say that I’m selling my PS3 and jumping ship, but guess what I’m gonna do, Suits @ Sony? I’m buying a 360 in a week or two and making that my primary console. At least Microsoft is up-front about their screwing you, and at least you’re getting something worth paying for with XBL. Yup, I’ll still buy a lot of your exclusives, but I’m giving Microsoft my money now when it comes to multi-plats, and I will encourage others to do the same.
A lot of you Plus members can go ahead and call me a pennyless whiner if you want. I’ve already given Sony’s gaming division over $3000 this gen. I shouldn’t have to give them $3050 just so I can have what should be the basics.
ps+ is nothing much. there is no incentive for me to get plus…. so it don’t matter what update are available to psn + users.
