Hi everyone! As we are continuously working toward providing the best gaming and entertainment experience on PlayStation 3, I wanted to give you all a heads up on the following new features and changes coming with the next system software update (v.3.70).
To make things easier for PlayStation Plus subscribers, we’ve added the option to automate two existing features. The [Automatic Download] feature will now be called [Automatic Update] as a result of these new options.
- A new auto upload function for online save data back-up will be added to make it easier to back-up your game save data. Under (Game), select the game for which you want to automatically upload saved data, and then press the Triangle button.
- Also, Trophies will now sync automatically at the timing of Auto Download.
A new recommendation function will be added that enables you to share your recommendations for PlayStation Store items, such as games and videos, with PlayStation Network friends. You will be able to send messages with a store link from the product pages within the PlayStation Store.
Due to the increase in video applications being offered on PS3, we are adding a new category on the XMB called TV/Video Services. This category will include video applications such as Netflix, Hulu PLUS, and VUDU.
- You’ll be able to find and download all of the video applications available on PS3 directly from this new XMB category.
- A folder labeled “My Channels” within this category will allow you to easily access your downloaded applications.
- Any videos downloaded from the PlayStation store will continue to be placed in the existing Video category on the XMB
Two updates for all of you enjoying Blu-ray 3D movies on PS3:
- 3D support will now be available when accessing Java-based special features on Blu-Ray
- DTS-HD MA, DTS-HD HR decoding/bit stream output (or lossless audio) will be supported while playing Blu-ray 3D movies.
- 3D digital photos in MPO format can now be viewed in 3D on the XMB and in the Photo Gallery app.
The 3.70 update will be available soon; additional details will be available after the firmware goes live here. Separately, there will also be a minor PSP system software update (v. 6.60) launching soon.

You set your ps3 to a time, and if there are new demos or fresh updates for games you’ve played then it will turn on automatically, download and install and then immediately turn off.
I set my PS3 to a time when I’m asleep.
Also if you don’t like the demos or aren’t interested then after a month of the auto download date your ps3 will automatically delete it. =]
PS+ rocks. I’ve already gotten more than 100 bucks of free content, and at least 40 bucks of discounts in games I was planning to buy anyways like Scott Pilgrim and that borderlands bundle.
As far as I’m concerned I’m already seeing returns on my money. Its only about 0.13 cents a day if you do the math. Not to mention all the free themes, and beta invites. PS+ Assassin’s creed revelations beta sept 3rd
Honestly I think the guys on here like plus and the features, but can’t afford them. Thats why they get all piscy, spiteful, and jealous.
They just can’t understand the concept of money for services.

So the save data feature is only for PlayStation Plus subscribers? How about families who have multiple usernames and only the main person has PlayStation Plus? This leaves them out in the cold on these features unless they purchase PlayStation Plus and get no other benefits for it because the games they want are already purchased. Please make the ability for families to have this benefit without paying quadruple for the same product.
I havent updated yet im 2 scarred my p3 will brick cause I already have audio issues from last update….why does this update have to be manditory im not even a plus member?
to all those who are not ps plus members, trust me when i say that this is no “great leap forward” nor is it something that should be only by means of ps plus, this is something that is not only long over due but some people can use this and some can not, thats what it boils down to. it is as if non plus members are getting penalized for not having a ps+ sub, last time i checked they/i still pay for your games and consoles and dlc’s so why split us up for a lack of a better term, read this forum and see how you just inserted a bit of tension between ps plus and the non plus. seems to me that sony is almost trying to convince people to change platforms, this is an isult and a slap in the face to all of us. this is an update for all or none. discounts on games is one thing but now you guys are treading different waters, it is totally unfair and i am a plus member and im out raged. make a ps plus only blog while you are at it , because you are just rubbing what non members cant have in their faces. how fast that welcome back door hit us on the rear on the way out. community? shameful

Here are some things that I noticed about the Trophy Syncing after the latest firmware update:
1. After syncing Trophies, manually or with the auto sync feature, my Profile in the xmb, the one in the friends list, does not show my latest Trophies acquired. I’m assuming my friends see the same thing when looking at my profile.
2. I booted up my PS3 this morning and was greeted by a message saying my Trophies had been automatically sync’d. I went to my profile to look and my trophies immediately began to sync again. ?
I checked my Trophy Profile via us.playstation.com and my new Trophies earned yesterday evening are not showing.
Is anyone else experiencing this?
The option to Defrag your harddrive should be made available in the next Firmware Update
sad how selfish people can be because its not their problem. “look at me im a high rolling ps plus member” give me a break. think about some one else for a moment. think about how this is not about free games/themes or dlc’s, this is an update. and the only ones who benefit are people who pay 13 cents a day like some one pointed out. “doesnt effect me so i dont care” isnt a great outlook. what happened to supporting one another when something is unfair? i subscribe to get discounts and a few bones thrown at me here and there, a system update is required by all but “benefits” reaped by ps+ members only and it is headlined in bold letters on an playstation blog which must make people who dont have the membership feel cheated. and as we belittle on another they kick back and laugh at some of the comments. it wasnt just the plus members who stuck out the hack/lockout for what seemed to be forever, for the most part we were all loyal to sony. how soon they forget. well i dont forget about the horse crap they fed us during that time. if everybody has to update then everybody gets whatever pertains to system upgrades in my opinion, this goes beyond 10 percent off hot shots dlc.

This is a minor update. Two months of waiting from last update and nothing good. We need the browser worked on, we want cross game chat, and we need other things like that. Atleast give a date on next system software update time and what will be updated or new things added to the PS3 a week or two before the update so then less people will be depressed after they update the ps3 and they thought something good like cross game chat would be added.
IDK why everyone who doesn’t have a Plus Membership is complaining. Thats why they pay for it, they get things. Its just like the XBOX360, they get in-game music on ANY game, Cross-Game Chat, and some other things because they pay for a subscription.
I’m not a Plus Subscriber, but it just annoys me to see people whine and complain like little kids. Everyone wants something, but they don’t want to pay for it.
If you want these features and discounts on games and whatever else comes out in the future, then buy a damn subscription. Don’t post, “OMGz! Moar updats fo da pluscribers. Wen du we get owerz fo da normlez pplz?”
The Video Services tab should be optional. I have absolutely no use for it as I do not use any services.
@712 xbox players get cross game chat for free. You can do it with a silver. But i dont see the allure of it. If i really need to talk to someone while im playing something, hey are either on the game im playing or they can be called with a device called a phone. I mean if you really need to talk to someone you arent playing with at the time, really really need to talk, chances are you have their number. I mean, are we in the dark ages?
Voice chat on demon souls was called a cellphone. And if someone comes on saying not everyone can afford a cellphone…. If ya got a ps3, ya got a cellphone

We complain because it’s a mandatory update for everybody, not just for Plus members. If I’m going to download it, I expect to get something out of it, right?
I think that Sony has been making as many Blog posts as they could in order to push this post further and further down anybodies RSS streams. I think they’ve made more posts in the last 2 days then they did in the last week.
It’s abundantly clear this update is worthless and nothing but a rediculous way of pushing a completely useless “service” on gamers who for the most part don’t want it. The only thing close to “good” about it is its making quite clear who the gamers really are and who the shills are.

I’ve been reading other post from fellow psn members. I’m also a plus member (obviously) and I think this update was crap as well. They had the right concept, but how they actually played it out was crappy, and just wrong.
1. They had the audacity to make/advertize a trophy sync feature and charge for it.
2. They completely screwed up how the feature should work.
It just seems completely tacked on (most shii from sony does) and it shouldn’t even be recognized as a feature.
This is something everyone should have out of the box. I know PS+ is optional, but if this is really supposed to be a selling point of the service then this makes XBL silver look like luxury.
Sony, if you ever read these post which I highly doubt, you should REALLY consider on making a psn ID change feature that’s a permanent name change. If you guys need ways of making extra cash I guarantee you that this will help TONS. I know plenty of people including myself that wish we could change our names, and willing to pay up to 10$.
@71 where am I going to go? maybe to a company that will allow me to justify the 600 dollars I paid to them as an EARLY ADOPTER. I bought a ps3 when there were no games out. I was in line to buy an 60 GB when they were fresh from the factory and what have I gotten? NOTHING because I didn’t pay 50 dollars MORE for the features EVERY single owner should get. maybe a better company like Nintendo forget microsoft !!!!!!!

@pirateharlock thats the only good that came from this, to filter who is a selfish eyes wide shut turd and who understands that this is unfair.. ps plus is supposed to give members discounts, a few free things and basically along the lines of sales.now they are using it against non-members by having a feature that is inserted w/ an update and this a another realm. if the update were optional and were for plus members only then hey its still wrong because anytime they are to “improve” the console w/ features that are, in my opinion over due and also trivial, it should be for all who invested in ps3 platforms, not just people who have memberships. but to make matters worse it is an update that is mando if you want to access online gaming, so its not as if its like one can say screw it i wont update it. in other words if people can stop marketing for sony about “how people are cheap and jealous and should buy ps+” and think about what may be next now that plus memberships are also for features to upgrade console.
well if you dont know i have a good opinion of what is next, since they started small by cloud save (which is advertised btw so its not like it came out of no where like this nor was an update involved for all) they will do more and more perks by way of update which is not something anyone will know until it is basically dropped. so the green light to market plus via console update/upgrades are turned on. features will slowly but surely find themselves within the update, not just at the store which plus advertises all the advantages of being a plus member, so expect maybe a cross chat coming eventually by way of obviously an update but only for plus members. whats wrong is plus features should be advertised, if this was a feature/perk for plus then all should be aware that memberships involve console updates/upgrades. i must have missed the fine print when i got my sub. to just drop it means they will just do it again,does anyone stop and see/ think what this is about? just take a moment at look at the progression, if you do not know them i will be more than happy to point them out.at the very least announce that plus memberships entitle console related upgrades by way of updates.
ive been in marketing for many years, sports related. and i do understand that shock and awe along w/ pressure and making people feel less than is a marketing tool used by many, i call it hard boiled. ive used it myself and i was hated by many because my job was to do some things that were not pro-consumer. and in my exp this not good in the short term which makes sense because sony can recover from anything and knowing that gaming is an addiction and that 80 percent will stick around you can take these risks, a smaller company can not, would go under. at the least you should let people be aware you will be also enhancing consoles by way of updates to those who are members, because i check out advertisements for what plus offers in the store and on here, i must have missed it if it was listed in either place. this way people can not feel cheated to a bigger degree by not knowing. but what do i know, you guys have the best marketers around. i just worked for small companies like the td garden. also still have my work i.d for proof. havent worked there in years but can go to any game that i want and its not because they like me. i can see through the smoke, and so can many others. loyalty is a 2 way street.
and to anyone who thinks”this isnt that big of a deal” well right not it may not be, but please understand that it is in fact bad for all to not advertise something, then drop it via an update which is mando for all to do to enable online gaming. im here for the long run, been gaming since dinosaurs roamed and the fact is times change, economy changes, companies do what they need to do to have overhead/profits in place. all this i respect and its just a part of life. i play video games to escape reality for the moment, to take my mind off something and to have fun. but after reading comments of gamers arguing w/ each other calling people”jealous and cheap” for not having plus is just what a company wants, non-employed people to apply pressure on some to “just pay for it” but some maybe can not grasp that. and the fact that we are the community regardless of who owns how many games or ps plus. “hey it aint my prob”, guess what? it just paves the way for nothing good for the community as a whole, including yourself. a true gamer isnt just the k/d and titles he owns, its about supporting other gamers. unless its your paying job not to then that is understandable.

Yeah eric, sony barley cares,but put this “act” of it out all the time as they feel where we’re coming from. It’s getting annoying wishing apon a star for a useful feature from sony every update.
It’s gotten very tiresome between calling these idiots, and posting on the crappy blog share, I don’t know how many times I called sony just to be directed to blog share. I kind of lost hope with everything sony does with their ps3 entertainment system.
Now it just the same routine every time. Wait for new firmware, hope, wish, read, get disappointed. Sony and costumer service should not ever be in the same sentence…..Oh…I just did put it in the same sentence my bad…..Seriously, it’s very crappy. I lost all hope, maybe they will build the ps4 around the network instead of tacking everything on. Until then, I won’t buy the ps4 if it doesn’t have voice messaging at least.
when Norio Ogha sadly passed i was very saddened because he was a very passionate, very smart, respected chairman. he really helped make sony who they are today. he was liked by all and was a jack of all trades. his mind was very opened as well as his heart. and i watched this corp. turn into a juggernaut and have always loved and supported sony just because they had one of the greatest minds and figure behind their label. times have changed. i respect sony and buy sony, but as an american i choose not to support only american products because its unfair. also i am a gamer who still believes in supporting one an another when something is unfair. but i and many other old school gamers w/ old school gaming mentalities are a dying breed. its in black and white for all to see, i have wrote about it in earlier post’s. this is unjust. will i go to the other console? No. i still have faith that im playing w/ the right console, a few hiccups won deter me. but unless we support each other this and any other company will do as they please while brown nosers say thank you

SONY needs to step it up a little more. There doing okay but after all the years PS3 been out they need to improve a little more each year then how much there improving now or they may not go on w PS consoles.
playstation 3 disapoints me i had mine for a year and i have to either go to xbox or send mine in to be fixed cause update issues. -.- grr why me why not those people who have the money to fix it uggh……..

99 bucks? that stinks, i would imagine you could have a 3rd party fix for alot cheaper but then that may/will put your warranty at risk, but if it is under warranty wont sony fix it or is that what it costs w/ warranty because it is something that isnt under warranty? if you do not have warranty on it anymore than i would def go through a 3rd party if the 99 dollars is an issue and to me it is a good chunk of money considering thats a 3rd of the cost of a new unit w/o tax figured in. but i would think if sony fixes it that now you are umbrella’d in case you have the same problem again. usually i find that the cost to fix is almost 50 percent more sending back as opposed to a 3rd party but keep in mind that you must do some very good research before you take it somewhere to get fixed, and most places do offer a warranty on the fixed portion of the console. can give a few names of places if you want. add me and i will send an inbox of a list
PS3 Firmware 3.70 has been freezing all of sudden, so far it frozed blackops, Brink, Netflix when PS button is pressed
I dont care what people say. SONY is going down the crapper if they doing what there doing. I know there software 3.70 is sucks there issues with it. IT also took two months to create the software and people are having issues with it thats sad. See i told u there going down the crapper.
