Hi everyone! As we are continuously working toward providing the best gaming and entertainment experience on PlayStation 3, I wanted to give you all a heads up on the following new features and changes coming with the next system software update (v.3.70).
To make things easier for PlayStation Plus subscribers, we’ve added the option to automate two existing features. The [Automatic Download] feature will now be called [Automatic Update] as a result of these new options.
- A new auto upload function for online save data back-up will be added to make it easier to back-up your game save data. Under (Game), select the game for which you want to automatically upload saved data, and then press the Triangle button.
- Also, Trophies will now sync automatically at the timing of Auto Download.
A new recommendation function will be added that enables you to share your recommendations for PlayStation Store items, such as games and videos, with PlayStation Network friends. You will be able to send messages with a store link from the product pages within the PlayStation Store.
Due to the increase in video applications being offered on PS3, we are adding a new category on the XMB called TV/Video Services. This category will include video applications such as Netflix, Hulu PLUS, and VUDU.
- You’ll be able to find and download all of the video applications available on PS3 directly from this new XMB category.
- A folder labeled “My Channels” within this category will allow you to easily access your downloaded applications.
- Any videos downloaded from the PlayStation store will continue to be placed in the existing Video category on the XMB
Two updates for all of you enjoying Blu-ray 3D movies on PS3:
- 3D support will now be available when accessing Java-based special features on Blu-Ray
- DTS-HD MA, DTS-HD HR decoding/bit stream output (or lossless audio) will be supported while playing Blu-ray 3D movies.
- 3D digital photos in MPO format can now be viewed in 3D on the XMB and in the Photo Gallery app.
The 3.70 update will be available soon; additional details will be available after the firmware goes live here. Separately, there will also be a minor PSP system software update (v. 6.60) launching soon.

It wasn’t bad enough that you basically gave away our personal information. Now you expect us to subscribe to your ridiculous PlayStation Plus Crap, just to be able to use features that should have been available in the first place?
You wonder why your customer satisfaction rating with your base of users is so dreadful. SMFH.
And you wonder why you are getting your @$$3$ kicked in the United States market.
I remember the times when every update and new features were for *everyone*, not only for PS+ subscribers. What happened to those times? I was a PS+ subscriber myself, and I intent to continue, but all this updates should be for everyone. In the end, we all paid for the system, and we all should be treated equally.

Sony is a team of super lazy/(talentless) developers that just can’t be bother/not skilled enough to make decent changes that gamers NEED instead they do the easiest thing possible and add 1-3 lines of code per update.

LOL @ needing to be a PLUS member to get the trophies to sync through automatic download. They can’t even do it right, yet they still want you to be a PLUS member for the cr@p. This is so sad, so, dumb stuff like this is how they’re gonna slowly try to force people into going PLUS. Good thing I’m not too concerned about trophies to begin with.
This is pretty shameful of Sony, especially in light of the recent outage and horrid protection protocal setup for peoples credit info.
Please, instead of Recommending content from the PlayStation Store, let us Gift it. Please. More money in your pockets… Only makes sense.

well all what’s mentioned is good but here’s somethin’ that’s really efficient how about Sony adds more payment options like paying via Facebook account credits or even better via a cellphone cuz paying by a credit card could be risky ‘n’ PSN cards r not at many people’s disposal
So let me get some of you straight, you think they should keep plus, but give everybody everything? Then what exactly would be the point of PS Plus? I pay the extra money to get the extra stuff, as do a lot of other people. You bought the console, you get to play games on it, that’s where Sony’s obligation ends. If you want more, I suggest you pay for it.

If I wanted my trophies to update at the “timing of auto download” I would have asked for that specifically along with everyone else in the community, but what the community and I actually asked for was syncing trophies right when they’re achieved. For me, the way you’re suggesting the upcoming “auto-syncing” feature for trophies is somewhat useless.
I love how the non plus user is getting screwed. Many of the features should be available to EVERYONE and in case it is not, make the download optional. Don´t add useless features as a excuse to make us download it.
Also, why is something as highly-demanded and simple as auto-syncing trophies a PS+ feature?
Skype needs to be added to ps3 i have a skype account and it would make life a whole lot easier
thank you guys for the auto save upload and auto trophy sync *even though the trophy sync isn’t when you just get the trophies…. Still though, glad to know you’re listening. Please add a profile page though and please consider overhauling the XMB and network for features that keep up with the Vita.
So, I assume if they ever do get the brains to implement a party chat, that’ll only be for PLUS members also. So, I guess there’s no point in me looking out for it anymore if they’re gonna have these little nonsense updates that regular members can’t even use.
I got PS3 mainly cuz I didn’t want to pay to play on Xbox. PS3 is way behind 360 in the features and infrastructure of the dashboard and how games automatically flow with all the dashboard functions. Now, 6 years into its lifecycle, they’re finally doing just minor tweaks to get things moving, and it’s only for PLUS members. I guess this is how they’re trying to get back the $$$ they lost with the outage. Even though it was completely their fault for having such garbage protection, they’re scheming to get $$$ by luring people in to PLUS by only allowing them the basic functions that should have been on the XMB from the beginning.
This is very annoying. Great way to thank everyone for sticking with you Sony.

So many lonely people on here, that don’t know the meaning of friendship or just how to socialize, doesn’t understand the need for voice chat. How sad. Get a friend then yah would understand. Also the blind but kissers of sony and playstation that love their plus. Yah would pay for anything huh? Children that don’t know the meaning of a dollar. We pay for alot to sony and the devs. They make bank all the time. Go look at actual numbers despite the drops in sales. If they don’t sell because of a poor product, high price, no publicity, other titles that are more competitive, thats not our fault. Why do the big wigs still have money at all these companies? Cause of us. If they fire or pay little to their slaves, thats something that needs to be discussed internally. For the consumer, give us what we payed for.
So absolutely nothing for those of us that pay for your games to improve our experience just stuff for plus members really ???? Good to know that we matter. Why don’t you guys get to work on that Cross Game Chat idea I see that has been on your Blog site since it was created and that idea hasn’t been touched nor the community updated on if it will happen on this console cycle or if we will have to wait till Ps4. Also why don’t you make the auto sync of trophies for eveyone not just plus member that should have been a feature of the system from launch obviously the competition got that one right the first time and you don’t have to pay for that service.
no the Ps3 stays behind because of its PRICE! not because it doesn’t have features the other systems do. The PS3 has alot of features the other systems don’t, PS Plus or not. 3D support? Full game trial? Blu-ray? ability to change your storage space? Cloud gamesave(that itself is an achievement)? Games that dont scratch so easily? not a noisy system? internet browser? and so much more…

And yet another insignificant and meaningless update!
So after reading again, the auto update feature is pointless. If it only updates every other day, I have no use for it. It should auto upload and sync trophies AUTOMATICALLY, as in at the time of acquisition. I do it myself when I’m done playing. What would be the purpose of waiting so a file can get corrupt or have your system break.
Please add the option to disable trophy notifications. Can it really be that hard? Also an Amazon Prime video app would be nice.
shut up… do you people not reaize that this is Plus members only? I for one am not going to ever get Plus, it’s pointless, i had it for the free month and i never used it… what a waste of money… now i’m a sony lover, i have every single sony gaming device (except hand helds) and i plan on getting ps4 but still… i’m not wasting money for this…

2 BIG things i think need to be added to the system and system software and they are: 1 is that u should fix the constant “clock drift” issue where the system clock always GAINS time……and also the other thing I think really needs to be done is to implement a option in the software that will allow a user/player to choose whether or not they want the system to automatically synchronize the date/time upon initial startup from the power-off state. These 2 things i think are long long long OVERDUE!!!!…….

Look at most of the PS+ people saying “WHOOH SONY!!!” **** this. I thought PS+ was going to be about content? You know, discounts, beta access and whatnot. BUT THIS IS A FEATURE. You are locking out a feature to those who do not fall for your gimmicky money scam. What about all of the other problems? How about a browser that doesn’t lock up your system? Or an XMB that isn’t incredibly slow and clunky? Are you going to make those exclusive to PS+ as well? I seriously hope you get hacked again Sony, and this is coming from someone who really loves playstation.

There is nothing so imperative that I need to be told as I’m gaming, otherwise I wouldn’t be doing that. I would be trending to the emergency. Wait a minute, so there will be another section on the XMB? I don’t get it, the video tab should have all video stuff under it. I’m thinking most people don’t have many saved video on the HDD, and if they do then they know how to make fodlers.
This might unclutter the video tab (which I thought was fine), but now it clutters the entire XMB…. Please revert this ASAP.
I have friends, friends I hang out with in person and don’t need a useless feature like cross game chat. If they aren’t around, I use my cellphone (not really new tech, but useful) to call them. All it would do is cause more of a lag on the system. Also, I don’t just buy anything, I buy what I want. If you don’t want to pay the extra for Plus, don’t complain when you don’t get the Plus bonus content. Stop being cheap and pay a little extra to get a little extra.
Still waiting for the cross game chat sony… I cant believe that the VITA will get it and you cant [DELETED] do it on a ps3… This is pathetic and ridiculous. WE are all waiting for the cross game chat since the begining.

Sony, How about letting me sort games by title. I don’t care to look for my games based on when I last played them or their format. Not a difficult change from a Database POV.

On, a much more serious and urgent note; has anyone else here received the an e-mail from Sony stating the newest and latest terms to their most recent ammended, and updated ToS (terms of service?) It really is a sham, and goes beyond protecting their own rights. It’s an encroachment of civil and free rights to all users (in an honest opinion.) Just another stab at depressing the users, and slowly, but surely revoking of all basic rights (consumer and otherwise.) This is seriously a problem.

A useful feature that should be easy to implement is the ability to filter out your purchases from all the demo downloads in account management.
I bought a new PS3 today and was redownloading all of my purchases and things I redeemed, and I had to sift through all my purchases, plus my redemptions, plus all the demos I previously downloaded, plus all the free stuff that I have downloaded.
It gets cluttered, and I only really wanted to download not even half of it all.
So a way to get all your purchases and redemptions seperate from say all the demo’s etc, so its easier to go back and download what you want.
