Hi everyone! As we are continuously working toward providing the best gaming and entertainment experience on PlayStation 3, I wanted to give you all a heads up on the following new features and changes coming with the next system software update (v.3.70).
To make things easier for PlayStation Plus subscribers, we’ve added the option to automate two existing features. The [Automatic Download] feature will now be called [Automatic Update] as a result of these new options.
- A new auto upload function for online save data back-up will be added to make it easier to back-up your game save data. Under (Game), select the game for which you want to automatically upload saved data, and then press the Triangle button.
- Also, Trophies will now sync automatically at the timing of Auto Download.
A new recommendation function will be added that enables you to share your recommendations for PlayStation Store items, such as games and videos, with PlayStation Network friends. You will be able to send messages with a store link from the product pages within the PlayStation Store.
Due to the increase in video applications being offered on PS3, we are adding a new category on the XMB called TV/Video Services. This category will include video applications such as Netflix, Hulu PLUS, and VUDU.
- You’ll be able to find and download all of the video applications available on PS3 directly from this new XMB category.
- A folder labeled “My Channels” within this category will allow you to easily access your downloaded applications.
- Any videos downloaded from the PlayStation store will continue to be placed in the existing Video category on the XMB
Two updates for all of you enjoying Blu-ray 3D movies on PS3:
- 3D support will now be available when accessing Java-based special features on Blu-Ray
- DTS-HD MA, DTS-HD HR decoding/bit stream output (or lossless audio) will be supported while playing Blu-ray 3D movies.
- 3D digital photos in MPO format can now be viewed in 3D on the XMB and in the Photo Gallery app.
The 3.70 update will be available soon; additional details will be available after the firmware goes live here. Separately, there will also be a minor PSP system software update (v. 6.60) launching soon.

I would like to see cross game chat and higher storage capacity for cloud saving (1GB+). I liked plus from the trial, but not enough to pay for it. Add more features to it and I’ll bite.
I’ve updated my system via internet to this update and now I cannot connect to the internet anymore. I tried rebooting my internet and my ps3 three times but still no go. Can somebody please help it would be greatly appreciated!
You know what Im going to go ahead and say it. PS+ IS THE DUMBEST THING EVER! What if you don’t want the content? What if all you want is to sync trophies automatically? It is stupid. You pay $50 a year just so your PS3 will turn itself on and update stuff automatically? That is stupid. You could jailbreak your PS3 and get that stuff for free.I hate it, i just plain hate it. These things shouldn’t cost money. Seriously, how hard is it for a trophy to sync itself the moment that it is acquired?
AND ANOTHER THING! How come i have to sync my trophies EVERY time i want to look at my profile EVEN IF I HAVE NOT ACQUIRED A TROPHY SINCE THE LAST TIME I SYNCED IT?! please explain this.
I want the automatic update feature, but i don’t want the content offered with plus. I’m not paying $50 a year for automatic updates. Do you see this massive flaw with PS+? I mean it is HUGE!

XGC on the other box sucks.. I’d rather not have it on ps3..

I’m not sure why the trophy sync is a PS Plus only feature?
Playstation Plus was a great idea when it began, but now its turning into stupidity. Plus subscribers will never be satisfied, they’ll always be ranting about something.. you should make THIS for Plus members only, and make THAT for Plus members only.. and Ohhh we should have a Golden Plus logo over our avatar’s head on PS Home.
Sorry for the language but, give me a ****ing break…. Don’t get me wrong, showing support for Plus is good and all. Especially for the Plus users who come on the blogs whether its a good post or bad, and they always say something positive about it, basically kissing the rear end of whoever posted it.
Why not speak the truth?? Thats what we’re here for.
Bottom line Sony.. take a look around.. think of your EVERYONE in online community.. and stop thinking about programs to make money off of.. they may work for a little while, but not forever.

Its clear… The only reason its a ps+ feature is basicly for the people who are not ps+ they see this feature and they say hey! i want it too, So they have to subscribe to ps+

On the subject of the new TV/Video Services column in the XMB, are there any plans in the future to add a function under the Settings column to allow us to customize the interface?
As it stands I have zero use for TV/Video Services as well Photo and Music, it would be nice if I could just hide them from view so I have less clutter on my screen.
Also speaking of clutter, any applications (Netflix, Photo Gallery, Life With Playstation, PS Home, etc) should really be moved to a dedicated Application section (beside Game & Video) under the PS Store so the icons aren’t permanently stuck on the XMB for those of us that do not wish for them to be installed.
Hope it fixes the Rio the movie Blu-ray freezing up issue.

Why exactly should Sony stop thinking of ways to make money? So they can fold?…That makes no sense. Then we wouldn’t have PS3 systems or games. You’re probably just young but money makes the world turn, my friend. In life you will find that your level of happiness and contentment is directly proportional to your level of acceptance of things as they are. I had to drink heavily for 20 years to learn that. I give this to you for free. Don’t say I never gave you anything.

Don’t count on it. If it wasn’t mentioned here than it will not be part of the scope of the update. I’d call tech support or customer service cuz you likely will get zero attention on that here. Funny you mention that though because on my Angry Birds Rio the game freezes on level 8-15 every time…weird…wait, you’re in on Chapulin. I knew it, you’re incahoots with that big monkey aren’t you!!!!

WoW, this is amazing!!! Just what I’ve been waiting for. Not only can I now subscribe to a service to reap update benifits, but I also get the privlidge of being able to market…I mean “recommend” products to my friends!!!

Guys complaining about exclusive features to psn plus members…come on !! just subcribe to it !! its a really small price per year for all the good features we are getting !!

There are some fairly good comments about this update…some in support of a more Xbox 360 type interface/features…some wanting a better XMB…Playstation Plus members can go either way & non Playstation Plus members just don’t care…(eh). <~~~JayWizzle_1
I chose the Sony Playstation 3 because I was a Sony WalkMan owner as a child and I have been a customer ever since. Although my first video game system was an NES…After the original PS I had to follow the series. I tried to play the Xbox original but it just didn't seem right so I never gave it a chance. I've had the PS2 and now the PS3 because online gaming has been "FREE" for a while but…THINGS GONE CHANGE…we'll see what happens next.

Installed v3.70 after a movie I was watching froze. I restarted and said I had to install an update. Now I am unable to start a movie or a game. Before when you put in a game/movie it shows up under the “game” section. Now there is nothing. No way to start a game or movie. Even with disc auto-start turned on.

I hate how they are screwing the non-ps plus out of features that every PS3 owner should be entitled to have. PS plus, for me at least, has barely any value and making these features exclusive for PS+ users is stupid. Exclusivity in almost any form, such as exclusive DLC, exclusive pre-order bonuses, etc etc are all [DELETED].
Can we get party chat and in-game music? thats all I want from sony
It’s nice, but I expected more dramatic and compelling features (not universal voice chat).
You know that they explained a while back why there is no in-game music, it’s something to do with threading.
Might just be the same reason why there is no party chat too.
they need to make an update where u can talk with friends thats playing a different game than u r while using a headset and playing music while playing games(music on console)

better music & picture interfacing
better visuals
a download for adding on 100 extra gigabytes
a newer version of javascript
a better FlashPlayer
a better living with playstation interface
making a download for the entire psn community inclusive instead of exclusively for the ps+ users
when you could’ve made that into a store download
better organization for music games & pictures
new entrance music by the way

For all of those who keep complaining about not having cross game chat, ever hear of TeamSpeak?? Download it on your computer, set up a wireless mic or plug one in if your computer’s in the same room, invite your friends, and there you go, cross game chat. I do it all the time with my friends. I’m so sick of seeing people always complaining about this when there are other options.
And I’m totally looking forward to this update. Love PS+!!!

auto trophy sync oh well ill take two extra minutes an update myself. really no big deal but a new XMB menu would be nice

I really don’t see what all of you non Plus people are complaining about, Not like Sony is not giving you features.
+ Auto trophy syncing, it’s automatic, it’s convenient, but you can still sync you trophies manually with one button press so whats there to whine about?
+Auto save backups, Same thing, any and everyone can already backup all their game saves (exceptions to the locked ones) at anytime with a USB stick and mosty of the world has one lying around so again, stop whing and being lazy, it’s not hard.
This update doesn’t bring PS+ exclusive features, it brings convenience. Just like the way you all go to the store and buy milk, you pay for convenience because you go out to a store 5 minutes away and buy some instead of driving miles to a farm and milking a cow instead. Stop complaining about nothing.
As for the whole Cross game chat thing, did anyone of you ever stop to think why it isnt here yet? like really? you say things like the VIta will have it day one, why doesn’t the PS3 have it yet, well let me tell you something obvious. It’s probably been done or implemented internally for quite a while, a big problem with it is that since it didn’t launch with the PS3, games would have to go back and add support for it by adding a and that’s definitely not gonna happen. so even if they implemented it to everyone today, it wouldn’t work very good because even if you’re in youre “private” chat rooms playing games, the other online players in games will still hear you regardless because the games they are playing and you are playing have no support for it. Now that doesn’t exactly sound like cross game chat does it? didn’t think so. The Vita will have it day one because straight out the gate all games are supported and it’s more than likely all through the hardware so games shouldn’t need to do anything but mute the user from the games and enable them on a private channel that they talk to their friends with.
Next time please take some time to think before you post whining nonsense without thinking please. :D
Honestly Sony this is an …ok update it isn’t bad but auto synch trophies only for PS Plus. I see where things are going around here. Also there is other things that need to be done. Cross Game/Party Chat! Yes , Sony its time its way past time. This needs to be implemented badly. Also other things like XMB upgrades not just added categories need to happen.
