DIRECTV and PlayStation Bring NFL Sunday Ticket to PS3

Phil Rosenberg's Avatar + Posted by Phil Rosenberg on Aug 17, 2011 // Senior Vice President, Business Development, SCEA

Hello PlayStation Nation!

Are you ready for some football!

We are excited to announce that PlayStation has partnered with DIRECTV to bring its popular sports subscription service, NFL SUNDAY TICKET, to the PlayStation 3 game console. PlayStation owners across the country will now have the opportunity to watch every out-of-market Sunday game on their PS3.

DIRECTV and PlayStation announce NFL SUNDAY TICKET on PS3

How do you get in the game? At the start of the season, viewers who do not currently have access to DIRECTV will be able to subscribe to NFL SUNDAY TICKET at the season price of $339.95. Existing DIRECTV customers who already have NFL SUNDAY TICKET and NFL SUNDAY TICKET To-Go through DIRECTV can access the service on their PS3 for no additional charge.

NFL SUNDAY TICKET is a DIRECTV-exclusive sports package that offers:

  • Up to 14 NFL games every Sunday
  • Full HD for every football game
  • DIRECTV’s Red Zone Channel

We know that PlayStation fans are huge sports enthusiasts, so adding NFL SUNDAY TICKET is the perfect complement to the PS3’s rapidly growing lineup of sports entertainment, including MLB.TV and NHL GameCenter. We’ll have more info, including a video tutorial and sign up information on the blog shortly. I hope you’re as excited for the football season as we are.

I would pay .31 for the service I am getting right now. That is for the next 10 years of packaging.

The commertials are HD quality. Especially when they pause for 10 seconds… Truly amazing Sony!

commercials even. I got one where a guy is peeking in a closet. Creepy. Paused on it for 30 sec now.

No kidding shadow…. paused on a Chevy Cruze comercial right now….and I am sure when it returns it’ll be back in the 2nd quarter and then jump live for a few seconds and then start all over again…

The best part about this, most of us have been here watching this horrible crap for almost 2.5 hours. I am ashamed to say, I am addicted to football. I blame PSN for feeding us the habit. At least give us a good fix. geeeesh.

Still nothing on my set. I just tried again and not even a picture. Just some little thing going in circles in the middle of the screen! I can’t believe they didn’t test this out before the actual games began!

Anybody know who to contact if it’s screwing up what’s in market vs. out of market for you? It’s not giving me STL/PHI and I’m on pacific time here :)

I swear its like watching the game with an angry wife/GF. She has the remote and pauses it at the worst possible times.

20 Seconds before freezing now, it’s improving from the 10 seconds of first half switch to pre game then back to game then freeze

Guido, if the game is showing on another channel in your area it will black it out. Or PSN is just screwing that up too.

Your call.

I haven’t been able to get more than 1 minute of super jaggy video with random intermittent commercials cutting in on actual plays and not during play stoppage. This has been a joke, and for the ridiculous amount of money i sped for this is just completely insane.

Sony what are you going to do to compensate us for this laughable epic fail. I would like a full refund.

The sad part is I read the statement handed out by Time Warner saying they weren’t worried that this officer would affect them in the market due to the price, etc. Wait till they find this out. Personally I would have Direct TV but I live to close to the ocean and hurricances are always a problem here so I opted for cable. I always had Direct TV until I moved here because I am a football junkie so when I heard about this offer I was elated. Talk about a let down. I got my unit, set it up, bought my snacks, paid for the service, turned it on and immediately saw the problems. I know I said this before, but are you telling me this couldn’t have been tested before the actual games were being broadcast?

shadow – good call – local fox is showing the phi/stl game. i forgot about regular tv.

things sony forgot about lately:
-security
-testing
-customer service/satisfaction

given the roll Sony is currently on and my desire to play a functional PS4 some day, here are some pointers for them as they develop their next console:
-you probably need a motherboard, memory, CPU, *and* GPU in it for it to work. don’t forget any of those.
-if you’re going to stay with disc-based game distribution, remember that you’re doing blu-ray now and not DVDs
-your online service is supposed to be free. alternatively, charge us something for it and use the money to hire people who have a clue to make it run properly and securely.
-don’t try to take the next step in interactivity by abandoning motion detection and whatnot in favor of a mind reading console. i shudder to think what your bugs in that system would reveal about me :)

I am missing a possible first win of the season for my Browns…. I hate you PSN and Direct TV.

At this point I don’t care who is at fault. You both fail in my book.

Not to mention Pukesburg is losing as bad as they are. (That makes it a little better!!!)

Perfect day for a Browns fan, and I missed it.

My family back in Minnesota just ordered Sunday Ticket for me and then they got the option for watching on a computer. It finally loaded on my computer and now it went down. My family and I have given well over 600 dollars to sony/direct tv in less than four hours. Both of these companies are complete failures for week one of the NFL.

Three hours of troubleshooting to resolve huge problems like what they had at launch this morning is actually pretty impressive. Now why they decided to roll the thing out without load testing to begin with, god only knows. The only reason I can think of is that they didn’t have time – they barely had it ready to be up for download/sale before week 1. Totally rushed and this was the price to pay for it.
