DIRECTV and PlayStation Bring NFL Sunday Ticket to PS3

Hello PlayStation Nation!

Are you ready for some football!

We are excited to announce that PlayStation has partnered with DIRECTV to bring its popular sports subscription service, NFL SUNDAY TICKET, to the PlayStation 3 game console. PlayStation owners across the country will now have the opportunity to watch every out-of-market Sunday game on their PS3.

DIRECTV and PlayStation announce NFL SUNDAY TICKET on PS3

How do you get in the game? At the start of the season, viewers who do not currently have access to DIRECTV will be able to subscribe to NFL SUNDAY TICKET at the season price of $339.95. Existing DIRECTV customers who already have NFL SUNDAY TICKET and NFL SUNDAY TICKET To-Go through DIRECTV can access the service on their PS3 for no additional charge.

NFL SUNDAY TICKET is a DIRECTV-exclusive sports package that offers:

  • Up to 14 NFL games every Sunday
  • Full HD for every football game
  • DIRECTV’s Red Zone Channel

We know that PlayStation fans are huge sports enthusiasts, so adding NFL SUNDAY TICKET is the perfect complement to the PS3’s rapidly growing lineup of sports entertainment, including MLB.TV and NHL GameCenter. We’ll have more info, including a video tutorial and sign up information on the blog shortly. I hope you’re as excited for the football season as we are.

  • DirecTV isn’t do DIRECT!

  • cant you people read , if you do not have direct tv its 339 if you have direct tv and the foot ball pakage you can pay 50 to use the ps3 as another receaver.

  • This is the same price as on DirecTV … but it’s still way too much. I used to subscribe to it on DirecTV, but the price has gone WAY up. Even if it were still $250 or so, there’s no way I would dish out an extra $50 to get it on my PS3.

  • Give us MLS Direct Kick and we’ll talk…

  • i thought people who signed up for directv got it for free

  • This is exciting albiet to expensive. I’m one step closer to dumping cable all together but with this price tag and not being able to watch my local team I’ll have to sit it out. If it was half the price and the rest of the package was ‘as is” I’d probably buy it just for the red zone channel.

  • if your a DirectTV subscriber why would you do this if you already have it, I’m not one but can’t you get an extra receiver when you subscribe, so why would you want you PS3 to act as one. For those that aren’t, why would you pay that price, even the MLB one is way cheaper.

  • Nice, but you guys should try and get a discount for at least this year.

  • Sony and developers expect me to buy more than 5 games! That’s absurd, buying 5 games costs more than the console!!! You people complaining that NFL Sunday ticket cost more than the console are using some seriously flawed reasoning. Everything you buy for a game console costs more than the console. If you love football it is not that expensive, it is far cheaper than getting it on Directv. If you don’t love football then don’t worry about it.

  • Avoid DirecTV at all costs. Thieves and liars. I am pro-business and free market, but DirecTV will rip you off.
Don’t believe me? Go to your home state’s Attorney General web site and search “Directv”.
Do a consumer complaint google search…I’m not intending to debate the issue, just an interested party wanting to get information out in the wild.

  • haha who in their right mind would pay $340 for this u must be drunk out of your mind

  • @138 the reason why the NFL has a 90 mile blackout rule is to get people to attend their games. if there wasn’t any sort of consequence for local fans not filling up the stadium, the league would have folded long ago.

personally i am debating if i want to get this or not. sure the price is steep but if i can watch any game on-demand then it makes it worth my while especially since i can’t watch my team(Browns, go ahead yuck it up) on tv since i live in FL. so if i can watch Sunday’s game on a late Sunday night,Monday afternoon, or when ever i feel like it, i am all for it. I like that there is finally an option for me to get this NFL ticket. i have no desire to switch over to Direct TV because if it rains hard(which it does all the time in Central FL) you’re reception is shot and you have “snow” on your screen until the rains end.

for those complaining about the price, $340 divided by the 18 weeks NFL season (16 game schedule plus your 2 bye weeks) comes out right at $19(rounding up). i know personally that i could easily run a much bigger tab at the bar then a mere $19

  • $340 is just way too much money as much as I love football and the NFL. At least the prices for viewing MLB and NHL on the PS3 are reasonable given the length of the season and the amount of games that are played.

  • NFL PSN avatars please! and don’t just skimp out on us like you did with the MLB 11 avatars.. they gave us like half the teams(luckily my indians were one of the teams) and just abruptly stopped

  • Its great gettin all this stuff, but that price is stupid. I’d rather spend that much on real life tickets. How bout addressing the much needed things for the ps3, before we get stuff that only a tiny percentage would pay for.

  • i have a few questions,
How do you prove you are already a Direct TV costumer?
What if your already signed up for NFL Sunday Ticket?
Is the fifty paying the Sunday Ticket one time subscription?
    Is it a monthly fee?

  • @166

    1. it says you can do this w/o a DirectTV subscription
    2. it says you pay a $50 fee to use your ps3 as a reciever
    3. read above
    4. i really hope they wouldn’t charge you $340 a month

  • Will This lead to full Direct TV through PlayStation because this would final give something to the PlayStation that would give more popularity and get more sales to beat the competition

  • I’ll just stick with going to Buffalo Wild Wings on Sundays to watch the games.

  • This is great ,a bit steep though.. $249.00 is a better price point.

I would like to know what will be the HD stream quality, will it be the same as mlbtv’s 4.5 mbps or better?

Also, I recommend Sony and Directv to test drive this very thoroughly and work out all the bugs before it goes live because when MLBTV started up this past season in april they did not test it properly and many of us were left with alot of headaches and stress.Thankfully all has been sorted out…

  • I’m kinda shocked at the price they are asking for this…$340 is laughable.

I live in Canada and have been an NFL Sunday ticket subscriber through my cable provider (SHAW) since it came out. It only cost me $40 a month for 4 months or $160 for the season.

    GO STEELERS GO!!

  • anyone know how and when you can download. i think its alittle steep since you do not need the direct tv box

  • NFL is to blame for this BS, charging 300 + for this is robbery. Im a huge NFL fan, and cannot view my trams games because they dont air here locally as Im in Canada, so NFL forces me to pay ridiculous amounts for this bs. NFL is a great league but run buy a bunch of greedy idiots.

  • For this price screw the NFL, illegal NFl streams it is. Sorry, but that price i a slap in the face.

  • @162, you’re kidding right? Going to a bar and watching a game from your TV are different animals. Only a clown defends this ridiculous price.

  • @162, no the league would be rich without the local blackout rule, no other sport has them. NFl is greedy.

  • @159, clueless, I can get it through my cable here for 180….. How is PS3 NFl ticket cheaper?

  • The NFL is greedy and illogical. I can get 181 games of my favorite baseball team for $120. You’d have to be an idiot to pay $340 for 16 football games. Lower the price by $200 and I’ll sign up.

  • “the season price of $339.95. ”

    ….Whaaaaaaaaaaat!?

I’ll just get RedZone for $50… thanks.

  • @176. MLB also has blackouts of local games

  • I COULD NOT BE LESS INTERESTED!

Give me translated Japanese content instead!

  • This is a stupid business ploy to compete with ESPN on Xbox Live, nothing more.

  • “We know that PlayStation fans are huge sports enthusiasts”

Uhh no. That’s why I sit on my butt and play console games instead of going out and watching or playing sports.

“hope you’re as excited for the football season as we are.”

Sorry, but nope. Not even a little.

  • This is probably US only as Sony forget Canada anyway.

  • @172 thats why all the leagues have blackout rules is to get people to go to the games. so it’s not a NFL specific thing. hell MLB blacks out any game that starts after 5pm on sundays if it isn’t on ESPN. I don’t see one problem with blacking out games if you can’t sell a certain amount of tickets to the game.

  • @183 thanks for speaking for the rest of us. just because you do one thing doesn’t mean that’s the case of the rest of the user base.

  • that is a rip off.

  • FAIL!

  • My comment is super late but $350 isn’t that much, think about how much you pay for cable or dish service per year now. Me personally I’ve been waiting for the NFL and NBA apps so I can cancel cable. with Hulu Plus, Netflix, and these services I don’t need cable just internet. Cable sucks imo, I don’t like TV and the only reason I keep cable is for sports so this is cool for me. To each their own but it’s not that much money when the average person pays $100 for just cable service (not including internet service) per month You could pay for this, Hulu Plus and Netflix for about $500 a year which is a savings of about $500 per year so think about it like that

  • @181-183 over 111 million US viewers watched the Superbowl last year and the NFL is at it’s highest it’s ever been.. so it’s very very very likely there is a strong contingent of PS3 users that would find this type of app very intriguing

  • This is going to be an expensive proposition for all but the hardcore NFL fan. Since I use cable, this is a great opportunity to watch my team at home instead of having to go to a bar away from my family. $340 isn’t cheap but it’s not any more expensive than the current option for current DirecTV subscribers.

We all seem to be assuming that this should work even if DirecTV is available in your area which is a departure from previous years where DirecTV insisted on only providing live streaming to those who did not have DirecTV as an available option

  • its not a rip off thin k about it 16 weeks times 14 games equals 224 games so its like less then 2 bucks a game

  • You can get DirectTV and NFL season ticket is included for free this year.Alot cheaper that way. Nice try Playstation but it’s a rip off.

  • I’ll just continue to watch them streamed from other sites online for FREE! Thanks, but NO THANKS!!!

  • Well, I go for this but…… $339.95……. just a TAD bit out of my price range… just a tad.

  • @193 (MastaJ008) Sony isn’t charging the price for non Direct TV members… that’s the price that Direct TV is charging.
It’s literally just $5 more through playstation than it would be if you did have Direct TV and signed up for the package through them. Go look on their site if you want proof.

  • “$339.95”

I laughed for 20+ minutes. That’s beyond ridiculous!

  • To all of the Canadians, in America Directv has exclusive rights to the Sunday ticket. There is no choice but to pay their 350 or go without. I’m not defending the price (Directv sucks!), but that is what it costs. Sony is getting in on it to make money and offer it to those who do not want to switch to Directv. I was with Directv for years, but I would lose reception every time it rained or there were too many clouds in the sky (no joke).

  • Seriously $340 are you guys crazy? I was really excited about this until I read the price. I think I will just keep going to my local Sports bar on Sundays to watch football. I will spend a lot less and at least be able to enjoy some beer and wings

  • WOW!

Sony has totally lost touch with reality on this one. That price is ridiculous.
