DIRECTV and PlayStation Bring NFL Sunday Ticket to PS3

Hello PlayStation Nation!

Are you ready for some football!

We are excited to announce that PlayStation has partnered with DIRECTV to bring its popular sports subscription service, NFL SUNDAY TICKET, to the PlayStation 3 game console. PlayStation owners across the country will now have the opportunity to watch every out-of-market Sunday game on their PS3.

DIRECTV and PlayStation announce NFL SUNDAY TICKET on PS3

How do you get in the game? At the start of the season, viewers who do not currently have access to DIRECTV will be able to subscribe to NFL SUNDAY TICKET at the season price of $339.95. Existing DIRECTV customers who already have NFL SUNDAY TICKET and NFL SUNDAY TICKET To-Go through DIRECTV can access the service on their PS3 for no additional charge.

NFL SUNDAY TICKET is a DIRECTV-exclusive sports package that offers:

  • Up to 14 NFL games every Sunday
  • Full HD for every football game
  • DIRECTV’s Red Zone Channel

We know that PlayStation fans are huge sports enthusiasts, so adding NFL SUNDAY TICKET is the perfect complement to the PS3’s rapidly growing lineup of sports entertainment, including MLB.TV and NHL GameCenter. We’ll have more info, including a video tutorial and sign up information on the blog shortly. I hope you’re as excited for the football season as we are.

  • Hmmmm. $340. for all the out of market games.I’m in the New England area, so sometimes I can’t watch the Jets unless theyr’e playing the Patriots. It is tempting, however, I don’t think the bank account will allow it. After the PS hack I’m still afraid to put any CC info on the PS site.Maybe I can buy a bunch of $50. PS cards!
It comes out to be $22.00 a week.

  • READ carefully. It says you can only get this if you can’t currently get DirecTv. So if you can get DirecTv you just choose to have cable or Dishnetwork or FiOS or U-Verse or simply OTA then you can’t even get this.

    IT SAYS:
How do you get in the game? At the start of the season, viewers who do not currently have access to DIRECTV will be able to subscribe to NFL SUNDAY TICKET at the season price of $339.95

Notice it doesn’t say “viewers who do not currently have DIRECTV”

It says “viewers who do not currently have access to DIRECTV”

  • Is there anything in the future for adding anything like DirecTV2PC MediaServer capibilities for DVR playback?

    Thanks

  • This is nuts, it should only be like 50.00 bucks.

  • This is music to my ears because I just canceled DirecTV in favor of Fios. Bravo Playstation for putting this deal together.

I laugh at all the people blasting the price. They obviously know nothing about the Sunday Ticket.

  • Will I be able to watch two different games on two different ps3’s or will it be tied to my PSN name?

  • ctbundy you are absolutely correct never better said

  • how do I get NFL Sunday ticket on my ps3?

  • Sony isn’t dictating price, the NFL is. Current DIRECTV subscribers are paying the same amount. DIRECTV is offering free Sunday Ticket for this season ONLY to new subscribers; they will absorb the cost for the newbies and pay it to the NFL.

Regarding the $50 additional charge for current customers who want it on their PS3. What would it cost you to get another receiver and add it to your DirecTV account? And what would be the increase to your monthly bill for services, features (and whatever else they like to tack on).

Simple rule….if you don’t like the price for what you get, you don’t have to buy it.

  • When is the new blog for Sunday Ticket with tutorial coming, its going on a week and we would like more info please..

  • I guess no one has done the math….I’m not a DirecTV customer and have no interest in becoming one. I love football and I don’t live in the area of my favorite team. If I’m lucky, I see them maybe 4 times a year. I think the partnership between Sony and DirecTV is wonderful and I can’t wait to sign up. Here’s what I was able to figure out from all of this……

In order to get the Sunday Ticket from DirecTV, you have subscribe for 2 years to get the Sunday Ticket free for 1 year.

    1st year: have to buy minimum package at $34.99 + taxes, approx. $45 a month = $540
    2nd year: package price increases to $50 + taxes, approx. $60 a month = $720 plus $335 Sunday Ticket. Total cost = $1,055

Total Cost over 2 years for DirectTV = $1,595

    PS3 costs $250, a one time cost + 2 years of Sunday Ticket = $680. Total 2 year cost = $930

Savings of $665 over 2 years.

Seems to me going the PS3 route is better then becoming a DirecTV customer.

  • Like many others I was excited to see this until I saw the price, for 14 games it would cost me just over 24$ a game. I love my Packers but it’s cheaper to go to the local pub (which shows every game for every team) and buy a beer while watching. The MLB package gives you the full season for only a hundred bucks and the ability to watch when you want. It sounds too much like the NFL is trying to recoup from their lack of ability to make money in the off-season this year.

  • Given a 17 game season, it works out to just about $20 bucks per week. I think it’s a fair deal.

  • If it was 1 beer then yes going to a sports bar is cheaper..but it is never just one..well at least for me.

WHEN IS THIS COMING and when will I see it on my PS3. I need to see if I can get this.

    UPDATE UPDATE PLEASE

    Sorry just too excited

  • Well I do have to say @tbone0210 is I’d agree with you but just remembered that unless you have some cable subscription you won’t be able to watch ESPN Monday Night Football, NO Thursday or Saturday Night Football [I think they are both NFL Network], and depending upon location maybe not get OTA NBC Sunday Night Football…

Directv does give you all of that… not that I’m a fan – I think it’s all overpriced, but just sayin’

  • Okay, I’m gonna break this down a little bit, because most of you don’t seem like huge football fans like I am lol…$340 is only $5 than the package normally costs for DirecTV subscribers; they are just doing a promotion right now where it’s free for new customers (and some existing ones under certain conditions). Basically, you’re getting up to 14 games a week for about $20/week (which is not bad, esp if you have people who bring beer over watching the games!). Now as for the $50 for people who already have the package through DirecTV, you’re on your own with that one – I don’t understand that at all. I’m trying to finish up my Master’s degree right now, so I don’t have time for all of the football that Sunday Ticket offers, but I’ll DEF be getting it next year, right through my PS3. Sunday Ticket is the ONLY thing DirecTV’s got going for them – that’s why they’re giving it away free right now to new subscribers. Basically, it’s not as bad a deal as it sounds for someone who loves football. I know people who only have DirecTV to pay the $300+ dollars every year for Sunday Ticket.

  • “Existing DIRECTV customers who already have NFL SUNDAY TICKET and NFL SUNDAY TICKET To-Go through DIRECTV can access the service on their PS3 for no additional charge.”
Why do ppl keep saying it is $50 to add it on my ps3. Did they Change it or something. If i can find out how to buy it I will pay the extra $50 its to too bad

  • Anyone who says “339.95! Thats more than the console!” has got to be the dumbest person in the world. Everything is more expensive than the console. Buy 5 games and you have spent more than the console, or DLC packs, and extra controllers. Go ahead and spend $960 a year on the cheapest Directv package, and an extra $335 for Sunday ticket on Directv. $340 is not that much money, and it’s even less money if you don’t pay for cable.

  • So when can we purchase it?

  • Meeehh! Ok for the people who are tight on money and you have Directv. If you call and talk to a representative and upgrade to NFL sunday ticket, you can get a $20 monthly bill credit and it comes out to $33 a month! so 6 months would equal $198, so way cheaper! Come on, you pay almost $200 per ticket for one live game so don’t hold back now! Go Cowboys!

  • This is real good news for football fans. I currently have NFL Sunday Ticket and been a subscriber for as long as I can remember. I really only have the directTv for the sunday ticket, and cable for well sort of local TV programming and internet.

Now I add this with my MLB, Netflix ,Hulu Plus , and (Vudu) some of the other services … I only need to use the PS3 to access them. I sure if NBA comes to terms and it landed on the PS3 it be one more addition to my console ablities to give me what I like and want.

Yes, these additional things are costly to most and trust me I believe never go beyond your means. For me this is gold cant wait to hear the complete details on how to access and the user interface.

  • This is awesome for people in my situation. I love watching football and play in 4 fantasy football leagues every year. I once paid the $340 for NFL Sunday Ticket when I had DirecTV, it is truly an awesome program for football fans. However, when the NFL channel came out with the Red Zone channel, it was sufficient for $5.99 a month. However I now live in an apartment that has an exclusive contact with Time Warner Cable, who won’t pull it’s head out of it’s a** and make a deal with the NFL. So in the situation I am stuck in I am so happy to see there is a way for me to get my full football fix every Sunday. It is pricey, but my credit card is ready.

  • I think this is a great idea. I can now officially have everything I want with 1, an hd antenea, 2, broadband connection, netflix, nfl ticket on ps3. And still a lot cheaper than a basic comcast package.

  • How? I have searched the Direct TV website, the PS3 Website, the Moon and stars. Can somebody tell me how to actually purchase the NFL Sunday Ticket via PS3? Games start in 2 weeks. Playstation is giving themselves kudos in their blog and Direct TV doesn’t allow the Sunday Ticket to be purchased without selecting a TV package. Who is actually setting up this service? That’s great that you all have settled on a price, but where do I send the money? I sure hope the details get cleared up in the next two weeks and that this isn’t an indication of how the service will run throughout the season.

  • When is this video tutorial and instructions on how to order going to be posted??

How do I sign up for this??

    Games are soon!!

  • This is getting more then frustrating! I went out and purchased a ps3 just for this and with only 10 days to season start I would like an idea of when available for purchase! I’ve spoken with playstation representatives who read from this blog verbatim and then tell me to just refer to this blog as it is updated before them. What?! A community blog knows more, sooner then playstation employees?! This is sad playstation and I hope you tie this up because it is quickly becoming disappointing. I began excited when I heard the news, now I feel like it was premature.

  • If you are a NFL fan or dont live where the team you root for is shown locally this is perfect. Come on now, everyone jumping on the price 340.00 for the year 17 weeks? Going to the sports bar 17 week how much is that going to cost you?! How much are you shelling out for the PS3 games people…Really …I rather have the option to buy it , if you dont want it forget crying about the price ..What you really though it was going to be $100 -$150 .Its the NFL… the big dog. Soon in 2014 when DirecTv loses the rights to the NFL Sunday Ticket . The NFL Network will take over and make it available to all platforms with mutiple packinging and pricing options.

  • Anyone have an idea as to when we can actually purchase this?

  • Ok let’s see, how much is season tickets for the lousiest team in the league? I guarantee you can’t get season tickets for less than $340.00 and all you get to see is 8 games at home. For the price of the Sunday ticket you would pay $42.50 a game which is way less than what you would pay to see any team play and if your team is always a contender you couldn’t even get in the parking lot. Now also figure how much it costs in gas to go the game, how much to park, how much to eat and drink even if you tailgate and bring your own food and drink. You cannot go to a NFL Football game for this price and that’s only 8 home games. It’s a done deal for me. Now say you watch all 16 of your teams games that’s only $21.25 a game and you can’t even see some high school football games for that price. Sign me up. Just tell me when I can sign up.

  • I contacted Direct TV and this was there response:

“Thanks for taking the time to write us. I understand your concern about getting the NFL SUNDAY TICKET on your Playstation 3. I’ll be glad to look into this matter for you and would be glad to provide you with information you need.

I have checked and see that non-DIRECTV customers can get NFL SUNDAY TICKET on their PS3 if they can’t get DIRECTV at their current address. This will be available for purchase on September 6, 2011 through your PS3 at the PlayStation Network Store and for only $339.95. The first available NFL Sunday Ticket game is on September 11, 2011.”

Looks like we will have to wait until September 6.

  • How can you prove that you can’t get Direct TV…I live in a apartment, I guess I can say my landlord will not allow me to put up a dish.

I really hope I can get this. I see on my PS3 the NHL and MLB are being offered..but I don’t care about that. I want my NFL.

Anyone have any idea about this..thanks

  • dont worry Stopher999 , I had the NFL ticket to go for the internet last year when they offered it for non DirecTv users. All you do is check a few boxes wink, wink, and submit your one time FULL payment and your in and golden.

  • Cool thanks for the info…Now I am just wondering if I should wire my PS3 or will that not matter..right now using wifi.

    Thanks again.

  • Does anyone know if buying the PS3 Sunday NFL ticket without the DirecTv account allows access to mobile access on the devices such as iPad?

  • @Stopher999 You *should* run some cable to your PS3 if that is an option… if this is truly HD you are going to want better speeds than wireless-G can give you…

  • @jef212 a LAN is almost never the bottleneck a wireless-G speed is likely Many times faster than the internet connection.
As long as the signal is strong it shouldn’t matter if its wired or wireless.

Anyone have any idea when this will be available?

  • OK, so over three weeks later and still no word? Not sure if anyone told Sony or DirecTV, but the NFL season begins in 5 days.

  • @StunningCombo and aelong19: I was told by DirectTV it would be available on the Playstation Network on September 6 (see post above)

  • Does anyone know when and how i can order the Sunday Ticket for PS3?

  • NFL Network should be discounted for 200 dollars and part of the welcome back for the loyal PS3 users instead of the free games we got that 80 percent of us already played, cause every ps3 user is a NFL fan and wouldnt mind spending 200 dollars easily ……………………………………………I WANT FOOTBALL ……………………Sony already has the headset 99 dollars Resistant 3 59 dollars Uncharted 3 59 dollars and those that sitting aside money for the PS Vita i mean dang !!!!!

  • People complain about it being free with direct tv. You have to sign a 2 year contract. making it $750, plus it is only free this season so you would have to pay the $340 for the second year, putting it up over a $1000 investment. $340 isn’t that bad. especially if you don’t live where your team plays

  • please people..read a couple lines up before asking when can you get it.

  • Just talked to customer service and agent advised his supervisor wasn’t when the NFL package would be available in the store. Might be sometime today. If not won’t be until next week since they only update the store every Tuesday. Since I only bought the unit for this package if it isn’t available today you can rest assured it will be returned to Best Buy immediately.

  • Here is what I am getting confused. It say 4 month 84.99 So If I don’t buy it say September but decide to buy it in October, is it 4 months from October or am I wrong on this.

Eagles are on TV all month of September but a few games in October? So can I wait or not. Need more info.

    Thanks

  • Ok now I think I get it…It is 84.99 for each month. So 4 X 84.99 equals $339.95. So my question is if I start it in October will I only have to pay $254.97?

    I’m a little confused..nothing new for me.

  • Still not available. I called Direct tv and they said it should be there. I got this for the NFL Sunday Ticket. I am going to return. I prefer the xbox.

  • well now it looks like they’re not charging existing subscribers $50? I like that change. Also, GO EAGLES!

  • Just signed up. got the app on 9/6 @ 9pm. Could get the credit card to work. called them told me they update their systems on tuesdays, try again tomorrow. still didn’t work. went out and got playstation network cards to pay for it. looks good!

  • If you find this too expensive compared to your desire to watch specific football games no one can argue with that point. Yet I doubt it is very expensive compared with the average cost per hour of video game play.

I would expect to watch at least 12 weeks worth of games only on PS3, out of 18 available weeks. I would watch my favorite team (which is rarely on TV where I live) and probably another game from time to time.

If I enjoy 3 hours a day on Sunday watching games on PS3 not available otherwise, on average, for 12 weeks then I figure I am paying less than $1 an hour. One dollar an hour for entertainment is a great deal for most anything you commonly buy with video games being the only thing I can think of that matches or beats this price.

If you watch the early and late games each week, or record and watch multiple games a week then you could get close to the cost of a game worth replaying, or perhaps the cost of online multiplayer games.

To each his own but I don’t find the price very steep compared to how many hours I would get out of it if I purchase the package. My main concern is the quality. How are the MLB games, in HD, on the PS3?
