Hi, I’m Mike with Hothead Games and I am really excited to be able to share some insight on our exciting and meaty game The Baconing coming out August 30th, 2011 as part of the PSN PLAY promotion, which runs until September 19th!

Best Video Game Title Ever!

I have been lucky enough to work in the industry for over 11 years now but never did I imagine working on a game with an epic title like The Baconing! I mean, everyone loves bacon and now the fan favorite food has made its way into gaming.

Herculean Task: Remastering God of War: Origins Collection for PS3

+ Posted by Nathan Phail-Liff

God of War: Origins Collection HD

Re-mastering both of the God of War PSP games in full HD for the PS3 God of War: Origins Collection definitely had its share of challenges for us. The first goal we had was simply the daunting task of up-rezing the engine and content authored on a PSP running at 480 x 272 resolution and 30 frames per second to 1920 x 1080p at a steady 60 fps on the PS3. This required a custom PS3 version of our engine, coded in-house exclusively for the Origins Collection, as well as a painstaking process by art team.

Retro/Grade at PAX with Great Swag and Contests

+ Posted by Matt Gilgenbach

retro grade

Hello Playstation.Blog readers! We’ve been hard at work making a must-have PS3 downloadable game for PSN, so it’s been a while since our last PlayStation.Blog update. If you’re like me and you can barely remember your own name, let me refresh your memory about Retro/Grade.

Retro/Grade is an innovative fusion between a rhythm game and a sidescrolling shooter that has received the IndieCade audience award as well as two Independent Game Festival nominations. The game begins when you have just singlehandedly fended off an alien invasion, but all the destruction damaged the space/time continuum, which caused the flow of time itself to reverse. What would have been the final boss is actually the beginning of your backwards journey.

PlayStation Network is scheduled to undergo routine maintenance tomorrow, August 11th, from about 8am until approximately 7pm Pacific Time. During this time, registration and Account Management will be inaccessible, including the password reset process. While some users may experience difficulty signing into PSN and the PlayStation Store, the majority of users will be able to play online as well as sign in to external sites that require PSN authentication (like this one).

Stay tuned to the PlayStation Twitter feed for updates and a notice when maintenance has concluded.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

This Week in Home: Ooblag’s Alien Casino, Dead Island Photo Shoot and more

+ Posted by Locust_Star

PlayStation Home

Attn: Earthlings. Transmissions intercepted from an unidentified flying object spotted over Central Plaza late last night tell us that Ooblag’s Alien Casino will be entering the PlayStation Home universe this Thursday, August 11th. An interstellar casino frequented by gamers from across the galaxy, Ooblag’s Alien Casino includes a highly stylized multiplayer game of craps…with a twist. Winners will be rewarded by being transformed into extraterrestrial high rollers while losers will be punished severely by Raaksu, the casino’s ruthless be-tentacled Pit Boss. As an added bonus, players that access the Ooblag Alien Casino space will be rewarded an active item version of the Ooblag game that can be played in their personal spaces. This PlayStation Home-exclusive is 100% free to all players and will be available from the Navigator this week. Check it out!

Phase two of the ongoing Dead Island total game integration will begin this Thursday. Log into PlayStation Home this week to take part in the ghoulish Zombie Photo Shoot game, where you can snap some pictures of yourself posing with the flesh-eating denizens of Central Plaza. And if you haven’t yet had the chance, be sure to take our Zombie Survivor Quiz to find out how well you will fare in the impending zombie apocalypse (all participants will unlock up to four Dead Island-inspired virtual items).
