Kickoff the NFL Season on PS3 with the NFL SUNDAY TICKET App, Available Today on PlayStation Network

We recently announced our partnership with DIRECTV to bring their most popular sports subscription service, NFL SUNDAY TICKET, directly to you via your PlayStation 3. Starting later today, you can access the direct link in the My Channels category under the TV/Video Services icon on the XMB (XrossMediaBar) or head over to the media category of the PlayStation Store to download the app in anticipation of the new 2011 NFL season.

This Sunday, PS3 owners without access to DIRECTV will be able to live stream every out-of-market Sunday NFL game on their PS3 with a subscription to NFL SUNDAY TICKET. You’ll be able to enhance your NFL experience with live multi-game scoreboards and field position trackers, which also allow you to access highlights, stats, standings and schedules, as well as the Red Zone Channel, which gives you live coverage of Sunday’s most exciting moments. The subscription for the 2011 season can be purchased directly through the app for $339.95. Existing subscribers can use the PS3 as an additional receiver in their home, as part of their NFL SUNDAY TICKET To-Go package, which is purchased through DIRECTV.

Check out the video to see how the app works on PS3:

  • I JUST FLIP FROM ONE GAME TO THE NEXT AND ITS WORKING

  • if redzone wasnt freaking out this would be perfection

  • Its back and running pretty smoothly for me now

  • The WSH-NYG game is coming in good for me… HAHA well, it was. Anyway, I tried watching the PHI-STL game earlier, but like others have said, it literally was unwatchable. I’m lucky it was being shown on a local channel here as well and someone in my house had a tv with cable in their room!

  • I MISS MY TEAM PLAY EARLIER THE EAGLES !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BUT NOW EVERY THING IS WORKING SWITCH FROM GAME TO GAME TOOK 3 SEC YES YES YES YES

  • Even if it starts working, that doesn’t make up for those who missed their team’s 1 o’clock games! WHAT A RIP OFF!

  • But… biggamedb WARNED us! Why is it working?!?!?!

  • Congrats to the network teams for getting this resolved so quickly!

It was impossible to know what the service impact would be today, but because of what happened with mobile devices last year it looks like the learned some lessons.

From what I read last .. It took them a full month to get things working.

Sorry for all of the fans who missed their teams play.

  • All the games seem to be working for me now, but I wonder if it’s because many subscribers gave up, and freed some bandwidth for the rest who are still trying to watch anything? I guess we’ll really know by next week’s games.

  • There are also fewer games this afternoon than early. I wonder if having fewer active streams has something to do with it as well.

  • If I am not mistaken wasn’t it free today to directv subscribers? Maybe that added to the bw issue.

  • Mine is also working Good Job Sony and yes sorry for the folks that missed the 1 o’clock games

  • Well, it looks pretty great now. If it stays like this, or close, I’ll be happy.

  • Quickly? I missed my entire game. I paid to watch my team, not the afternoon games. So, unless they actually do the right thing and give refunds for those of us that asked, I just paid Direct TV $20 to watch their failure.

  • Got a question about the functionality now that it seems like the system is actually working. Still trying to decide whether to get the package or not (and obviously glad I waited for the kinks to start getting worked out).

Was wondering if there is any DVR capabilities beyond being able to rewind and pause what you are currently watching? Specifically, can you go back and watch the 1pm games now (ie: watch stuff delayed)? Or when you switch to a different 4pm game, can you rewind to watch stuff you hadn’t seen?

Also, just to confirm, if your local station is playing a game, you can’t see it via the PS3, right? Even if it isn’t a local game (ie: in Hawaii, we are getting the Giants/Redskins game on FOX, so I would have to switch from the PS3 to the cable box to see that game, but switch back to the PS3 to see the other games)?

I know you guys are still trying to get the system working and want/deserve to enjoy your working system, but any feedback when you get a chance would be mighty appreciated.

Sorry for the crap you had to go through the past 3 hours, and hope the improvements hold!

  • Working and looks good. I am cautiously optimistic that this will continue…

  • Not sure what you guys are experiencing, but mine still isn’t working! Stuttering, freezing, spinning blue screen of death. Oh, when it does play for 5 or 10 seconds, it looks like a youtube video playing at a resolution of 240. Oh, and I have 16 MBs download so I have plenty of bandwidth!

  • @fofy21 It does have pause/rewind capability for the game you are watching. From what I’ve read, it seems like The Redzone Channel and the highlights will be available through Sunday evening. I am not sure if you will be able to access highlights throughout the week but it would be nice. I think it really is just a Sunday service though.

    From DirecTV’s FAQ:

“While live streaming video and highlights are only available for NFL SUNDAY TICKET™ games, you can view player and game stats for any game each week. When viewing stats and highlights, use the L2 and R2 triggers to quickly scroll through every matchup.

Each week, highlights are accessible until 8:15 p.m. ET on Sunday and game results and stats are accessible through Wednesday.”

  • ps3 nfl sunday ticket issues seem to be resolved? still not hd quality though

  • Fofy21 looks like you cam only rewind the game you are watching meaning if you switch to another game it starts the dvr functionality to the point where you started watching the second game. You can not rewind to parts of the game you missed. Also you cannot watch the earlier games like you can on the MLB app. If your local station is playing a game on you won’t be able to stream it to blackouts even if it is not a local team.

The streams seem to be fine now and are in HD. The only problem I see is that the red zone channel keeps jumping to the Fox pregame show for some reason. It will be right in the middle of a play and then switch feeds.

  • I wonder what the issue is with redzone where it keeps playing older content

  • Thanks Stellone .. I thought that was just me with the redzone switch over thing .. Seems to be happening less, but not at all would be preferable

    Also HD for me too.

  • red zone is still messed up but the other games seem fine

  • FYI from the Playstation Facebook page:

    “PlayStation
For those who signed up for NFL Sunday Ticket through DirecTV on their PS3, we’ll be offering a $24.99 credit voucher via a PSN system message this coming week. The DirecTV team is aware of issues and working to resolve the service as quickly as possible.”

  • Thank You Sony.

  • Its working fine right now. WAAAY better than earlier and the fact that they are giving us a credit is even better. Thank you Sony.

  • i hope that price is a typo… $339.95 is retarded. mlb.tv is like $30, nhl gamecenter is something like $10/mo. get real.

  • working very well now. maybe ill keep it now

  • Thanks Sony for stepping up nice job

  • simdawg21- do u have a link for that?

  • is it me, but the audio sounds like a radio feed rather than a HD sound

  • facebook dot com / playstation

I have to spell the link out or it gets stuck in Comment Moderation.

If you go through the DirecTV twitter feed they reference the Playstation tweet that mentions the $24.99 credit as well.

  • @simdawg21 and Stellore : Thanks for the info. It was what I figured, but was hoping for more.

Now what I wonder is if I will have to pay full price next week even though it didn’t work this weekend….I’ll call and see what I can get from Sony on Monday.

  • I don’t know why everyone is praising Sony now. The service is still horrible. Stuttering, freezing. Repeating. All in glorious lower-that-SD quality for 5 secs at a time! I’m hardwired and while the download speed seems to have been dropped to about 8 MBs, that should still be enough for it to play fluidly in HD. This is the biggest rip-off ever!

  • Will we be able to view on our PSP/Vita through remote play a/o a PSP/Vita App?

  • Sorry theswanny, it looks like they may not have fixed it everywhere but a lot of us watched the afternoon game in HD with barely any interruption.

  • i am just glad the redskins giants game wsa on tv, becuase i would have been piss

  • ok i hope they can learn from this with free weekend preview and all of us ps4 users all sunday to go subscribers it got overwhelm im going to give them a pass this weekend because im getting my week one money back but week two it better be fixed there is no excuse this time around. Get it right!

  • I posted this earlier today (during 1:00 game), but for those who are interested….

    How to get a refund…….(maybe).
I Called 1-800-345-SONY (7669), press 0 and wait for customer service.
Told them is is unacceptable service, they gave a sob story how they’re trying to work-it out & please be patient.
Said “NO – I want a refund!” Then waited another 5 minutes for a manager.
The mgr walked me through cancelling the next 3 months/payments and submitted a request for a refund – tell them you want it back to your credit card, otherwise you get credits in your PSN wallet.
He said I’ll have to wait 7-10 days for a decision, but due to their admitting of a problem, he doesn’t expect a decline……we’ll see.
Note: don’t wait until next week to cancel – they’ll be less forgiving.
    Good luck.

  • Even if they get it to work it still may not be worth it to most. I am still paying it because I want to watch the Steelers and I have cut the cord. Of course if they play on Monday, Thursday or Sunday night it won’t be shown on the PS3. Considering I missed the game today (kinda glad after watching highlights which seem to not even be avail now) there just won’t be that many games to divide into $339. Only going to be 10 games on the PS3 total to be exact. That’s $34 a game if those were the only games I planned to watch. I wonder if I could use that reasoning with Sony to up that $25 refund to a more appropriate $34. :)

  • Hey fellas check your PSN id mail, the credits are there..

  • I want to know how come we cant get the option to watch more than one game at a time in those little boxes???

  • Ohh My bad its called the Game Mix channel!!!

  • Yep I got my PSN message and clicked on the voucher ink and got $24.95 in credit on my PSN account. Thanks Playstation! I figure I don’t need or want a cash refund since:
    a) after reading all the posts here and on the Directv website and those on both the PSN and Directv Facebook pages, it seems like it was a DTV problem no matter whether you tried to watch it on a PS3 or with DTV equipment. I don’t fault Sony for this and appreciate their goodwill in the credits refund.
    b) It seems like they fixed the problem by the time the afternoon games started and since it’s working now, I’m going to watch Sunday ticket.
    c) I’d probably use the refund on the PSN anyway.
Good job Sony. A BETA would have been a good idea but it looks like DTV goes through this every year. I think they are the ones who need to get their act together.

  • did anyone receive a message from “PSN” on there ps3 about getting a refund?

  • Are games only available live? can you record? can u access all games after they are over, like you can through the nfl.com

  • i have to work sundays and like to watch games after they happen via my dvr. does the app allow you to access games already played?

  • the app does not allow you to access games already played. Highlights are available until 7:30 EST.

    I received my credit.

  • gob332: was it cash or PSN wallet?
