Kickoff the NFL Season on PS3 with the NFL SUNDAY TICKET App, Available Today on PlayStation Network

We recently announced our partnership with DIRECTV to bring their most popular sports subscription service, NFL SUNDAY TICKET, directly to you via your PlayStation 3. Starting later today, you can access the direct link in the My Channels category under the TV/Video Services icon on the XMB (XrossMediaBar) or head over to the media category of the PlayStation Store to download the app in anticipation of the new 2011 NFL season.

This Sunday, PS3 owners without access to DIRECTV will be able to live stream every out-of-market Sunday NFL game on their PS3 with a subscription to NFL SUNDAY TICKET. You’ll be able to enhance your NFL experience with live multi-game scoreboards and field position trackers, which also allow you to access highlights, stats, standings and schedules, as well as the Red Zone Channel, which gives you live coverage of Sunday’s most exciting moments. The subscription for the 2011 season can be purchased directly through the app for $339.95. Existing subscribers can use the PS3 as an additional receiver in their home, as part of their NFL SUNDAY TICKET To-Go package, which is purchased through DIRECTV.

Check out the video to see how the app works on PS3:

  • Couple Questions.

    1. Can you cancel mid season? Don’t plan on it, but i’m sure some will want to.

    2. Can I use different Credit Cards to pay on different months? Gonna be splitting this up with my parents.

  • Does the PS3 allow to do your own “game mix” where you can put 4 games at once on the screen? On the PC you can do this, but dont see this feature on the PS3 App anywhere

  • Many of your questions can be answered if you just search for the app in the PS store.

    1. Go to the store
    2. Go to Media and Apps
    3. Select the Search Icon
    4. Enter the text NFL Sunday Ticket
    5. Click Search
    6. Click on the app in the search results and all the Terms of Service are listed.

Answers to common questions I’ve seen so far:

    Limited Subscriptions will be offered.
“Service cannot be cancelled (in part or in whole) after the start of the season and fees cannot be refunded”.
Subject to Blackouts (and cannot watch in market game if it is on Fox or CBS)..detected by IP address.
“Only one game may be accessed at a given time”
    US only.

Go to us.playstation.com/nfl for additional information.

  • They should add something where you’re able to access your favorite team to watch. I’m sure that would work out better than actually trying to watch every single game when you can catch the highlights later. Makes more sense to me.

  • They would never do that vaayder, people have been asking for that on directv forever. It would be nice, but they’d rather take the full $340 from you. I just bought this btw hahahaha. I LOVE ME SOME FOOZBALL.

  • Oh and will the quality of these commercials that play on loop be the same as the stream of the games? because they look horrible, and i have a pretty good speed of internet, well above the maximum rate mentioned.

  • I think this is a GREAT service for folks like me that live OUT of their teams’ market and want to be able to follow them. The break down into 4 installments clinched it for me!

    DONE DEAL!!!!

  • Option1: Dont buy it, watch it on pc.

Option2: Cut cable service and buy nfl ticket ps3.

Option3: Ask friends, buddies, bros to chip in and watch at your place.

Option4: Lipstick, mascara, high heels and nice purse, start tonight and you should have enough $$ by Sunday.

  • I can’t believe some people are willing to plunk down $340 on something they don’t even know about. Talk about a gamble! I bet Sony will be more than willing to take your money next week at this time. Wait it out and see what people are experiencing week one. If the streaming on DirecTV’s Sunday Ticket to Go is any indication to go by, this might end up being poor stream quality and unreliable and you won’t get your hard earned money back.

  • how do i get NFL Sunday Ticket on my ps3 when is it coming out it would be nice to let me know thanks.

  • NOT in CANADA???

I can guarantee you that you are losing out on a ton of money because of this.
We are practically the same country but we always get the short end of the stick when it comes to things like this.

Can you PLEASE give me a legitimate answer as to your reasoning behind this???

  • Directv ….if your reading this, 3mbps is not a good enough bitrate to stream a high quality HD feed for fast paced football and judging by the Sunday Ticket ads that are playing in a loop on the Red Zone channel on my PS3 verifies my statement….

Please up the bandwidth when games go live ,$340 is a high premium to recieve a miniscule bitrate on the hd feed.

Also please add a Game Mix channel and Fantasy Tracker to the app to add value to this promising product….Thanks

  • If I buy the PS3 Sunday Ticket subscription, can I still use my iPHone or iPad to stream games with the Sunday Ticket app?

  • $340 a season is WAY too much. $85 a season sounds much more reasonable, but even THAT may be pushing it.

  • can you pay just for the 4 months from sept to december instead ofr the whole year sony please answer?

  • anybody know the answer the the question above

  • read the terms of service.

  • cant im at work and it says no refunds but if i put say 100dollar psn card on ps3 and watch it for 4 months will it work?

  • You have five price options to choose from.
    – DIRECTV NFL SUNDAY TICKET™ ($339.95 for the entire season)
    – DIRECTV NFL SUNDAY TICKET™ ($84.99/mo. for 4 months)
    – DIRECTV NFL SUNDAY TICKET™ ($113.25/mo. for 3 months)
    – DIRECTV NFL SUNDAY TICKET™ ($99.99/mo. for 2 months)
    – DIRECTV NFL SUNDAY TICKET™ ($149.99/mo. for 1 month)

from the FAQ. there is no $100 option. http://us.playstation.com/psn/nfl/faq/

  • @pabowler300

No it will not. It’s all or nothing and no refunds once you buy you are on the hook for the 4 payments.

Please see my post 153 that cites the terms of service.

“Service cannot be cancelled (in part or in whole) after the start of the season and fees cannot be refunded”.

  • I agree… when can we get a Soccer/Futbol app?! I would so pay for that… as long as you had ALL the different leagues available – or the major leagues anyways. Why not release one right around the World Cup?! It would totally justify it, being able to re-cord and watch your countries games whenever you want (because typically it’s played in other countries as the host country and that means games over here are on at like 3 in the morning and I have to work later that day so I don’t get any sleep, haha). Just saying… for more leagues, far more games, WORLD CUP, almost played year-round, and it’d totally justify a higher price as opposed to this where you get 1 league, and it’s over after half the year…

  • When the screen is choppy, games are lagging, and some games aren’t even available to stream, don’t say I didn’t try to warn you guys…

  • Does it work in Puerto Rico? Because I know it says US only but here that means it sometimes works and sometimes it won’t, its like flipping a coin unless specifically stated “no PR”.

  • Any tv screen over 46 inches is going to have trouble with 3mbps at full screen as well. The picture will not be clear.

  • @Jin34P

    Per the Terms of Service

“DIRECTV NFL Sunday Ticket™ is only available to customers within the 50 United States.”

  • I bet the person who from Sony who said it was 3mbps now regrets ever saying that. Probably why no questions are being answered now.

  • @biggamedb – agreed 100%. if the mlb.tv app is 4.5 mbps, i have a tough time justifying the price tag on this. if they are going to use the same pricing structure that they use for the dish service, the quality of the feed needs to be similar.

  • I spoke to Sony Customer Serv. and what they told me is 3mbps is just the minimum bandwidth feed requirement to recieve HD it goes higher regarding ones internet provider and connection…
They also said they test drove it with the last Thursday preseason games and that the hd quality rivals and betters the mlbtv feed…

  • @dbuctech – thanks for the info. if accurate, that’s great news, and i’ll be more inclined to buy, but i think i’m going to wait to hear what users have to say before committing to the full season.

  • @pattmr – I will come on here Sunday about 1:15ET and and tell you how the picture is and what bandwidth its putting out. I have 25/25mbps so I should be able to get the max bandwidth they are feeding out.

  • sounds great. thanks!

  • According to Direct TV FAQs we should only need a 700kpbs connection. Just wanted to post what Direct TV has.

    Later

  • If I already have the sunday ticket, how much do I pay then to have it on my PS3?

  • Ok, just took the plunge. I use a secondary account and not the master account that can add funds and handle transaction management. I purchased Sunday Ticket in the master account. Works great. Logging in to the secondary account which I use a my “primary” account, opening the NFL app prompts me to BUY A SUBCRIPTION!?! WTF!?! This is limited to only ONE account even though it is installed on ONE PS3 with multiple users? Lame…

  • @Moke757 $50 thats it

  • This will be my first football season with DIRECTV. I have already purchased the NFL Sunday Ticket, so I fail to see how this would benefit me.

And seeing as how I didn’t think I would need the NFL-To-Go add-on, I failed to get it, and can’t use this app. You can however use your PS3 as an additional receiver if you do have it on your PS3. And even better if you happen to be at a friend’s house playing games and the games are on, you can login to your DIRECTV account from there and enjoy the games away from home.

  • @ SnowboardRX Maybe because it’s the NFL and not CFL?

  • Ok I have a Question, I went to purchase this and I am getting the dreaded invalid credit card info. I have tried so many things to resolve this but support could not help, and my bank said everything is correct. So the question is, as stated on page 1 you can use ps network cards to purchase nfl sunday ticket, do I just need to add the amount in my wallet every month on the date i purchased the first month?

  • I was very excited about the possibility of viewing the Sunday Ticket through my PS3 as I live in an apartment that can’t get DirectTV. I purchased my PS3 two days after the announcement was made and bought the Sunday Ticket last night. It looks promising, but I must say that I’m a bit concerned about the bitrate of only 3.0 MBS. If the video that starts up when you download the program is any indication, then I won’t be close to getting an HD picture–and for the price of the unit and the Sunday Ticket that should be a given. I read on this thread earlier that MLBTV uses something like 4.5 MBS and gets a much clearer picture and sound. I REALLY HOPE SONY and Direct TV find a way to increase the MBS in order to give us a better experience. Otherwise, I feel this is going to end up being a disappointing initiative.

I have my PS3 hardwired to my network and get 10 MBS, so I don’t have any issues with buffering, etc… I just think that for this premium, they need to provide a top-notch experience. PLEASE tell me there is something in the works.

  • So I bought the package on my ps3 a few minutes ago. 2 questions:

    1) Can I upgrade/add the “to go” app for my IPad? (the app asks for my direct tv login info which I don’t have obviously)

    2) how do you get information about using the fantasy football integration with the service that they show in the commercial?

  • I am glad the monopoly held by DirecTV has finally been broken. $85 a month compared to 16 weeks at a sports bar to watch my Dolphins (plus now I’ll get all the games) is nothing – I can’t believe the cable companies were unable to achieve this after all these years. Thanks Sony, I’ll see everyone on gameday!

  • Okay something is just not clear to me in the faq IT states:

You have five price options to choose from.
    – DIRECTV NFL SUNDAY TICKET™ ($339.95 for the entire season)
    – DIRECTV NFL SUNDAY TICKET™ ($84.99/mo. for 4 months)
    – DIRECTV NFL SUNDAY TICKET™ ($113.25/mo. for 3 months)
    – DIRECTV NFL SUNDAY TICKET™ ($99.99/mo. for 2 months)
    – DIRECTV NFL SUNDAY TICKET™ ($149.99/mo. for 1 month)

But when you go to purchase it says you will be charged 4 payments of 84.99/mo. What is it? I was about to load my wallet up with 2, 50 dollar cards what will happen if I choose not to continue?

So confusing, I believe something really funny is happening here, kind of like we are in the guinea pig stage of this transition. And if its any-hint that Direct Tv is trying to recoup the money through the PS3 for giving all the new customers getting new DTV service the Sunday ticket free.

Ohh man to bad I am such a die hard NFL fan so my comments are useless :(

  • Of course a Sony rep won’t say anything negative about this. I purchased the DirecTV Sunday Ticket To Go last year and had all kinds of problems with it. Games would lag, freeze, some wouldn’t even have the stream available. This is going to be the same technology. Already people are reporting of screen quality issues. No money back. A lot of red flags here IMO.

  • Word to the wise: Wait this out a week. There’s no way Sony/DirecTV will deny your money next week. The fact they are stating that subscriptions are limited is laughable. Wait and see what other “beta testers” are experiencing. For the people that will report about it on here, your experience will be greatly appreciated.

  • Has anyone tried to use their friends Direct Tv to go login for this instead of paying the 340.00 for it? Not sure if anyone has had any luck with that?

  • I think your friends login will work, provided they already get DirecTV service – what I am unsure about is if you have to at least have the dish without the service (but who has that when subs get it free now?). Your best bet is to give it a try. My hope is that most posters who subscribe through their PS3’s only show up here on Sunday to answer questions, because while I have extensive cable tv (used to work for tech support and sales at Cox) and dvr’s, I don’t know squat about how this service is going to work. I would like to see some sort of a numbers breakdown as well as far as how many new subs Sunday Ticket gains as a result of this partnership, as well as the picture quality, especially when tiling all the games being broadcast at once in HDTV. My tv is a very nice Samsung 3-D model 46″ that is hard-wired via ethernet into my network for the best speeds – I pay Cox 90 bucks a month because I have nearly a dozen devices on my network, Whenever I run the PS3’s speed test I get about 20-25 Mbps downstream and 6 Mbps up.

  • Someone can tell me if it is officially the NFL Sunday Ticket on PS3 can be seen in Puerto Rico. Puerto Rico is a province of the USA.

  • I would have to agree that the pricing is a bit extravagant. I like football and all, but I’m not ready to marry it. The MBL app pricing is way more reasonable for a season and will most likely be getting it for the fianceé next year. Besides, what if the Vikings suck again this year, that’s an aweful lot just to watch 16 games.

  • This is a no go for me. I just read in the terms and conditions that the Monday night games on ESPN and Thursday night games on the NFL network will be blacked out
