The Drop: Week of September 19th 2011 New Releases (UPDATED)

UPDATE: This post incorrectly identified the release of two PSone Classics, Final Fantasy VI and Chrono Trigger. These titles will not be releasing on PSN at this time. We sincerely regret the error.

The Drop is teeming with PlayStation greatness on all fronts, with titles arriving on PS3, PSP, PSN, PS Move, PS minis and PSone Classics.

Two of Square Enix’s critically acclaimed, PSone fan-favorites arrive on PSN. Former Raccoon City police officer Leon Kennedy dons a new HD uniform in Resident Evil 4. Summon your Persona in the first day of school at Seven Sisters High School on your PSP. Deck yourself in every shade of purple when you take on the Ultor Corporation and rival gangs in Saints Row 2 for digital download on PS3.

There is magnitude of gaming to be had on the last week of summer. Enjoy the megaton that is The Drop.

PlayStation 3

Supremacy MMA — Supremacy MMA brings the brutality of unsanctioned and unlicensed MMA fighting to the bigtime, favoring fast-and-furious gameplay and underground aesthetics over official branding and television-style presentation. The game aims to raise the bar in the MMA space by bringing an unprecedented level of fast, fluid combat, intuitive controls and true-to-the-sport brutality.

PlayStation Portable

Persona 2: Innocent Sin (Also on PSN) — The story takes place in Sumaru City, Japan, population 1,280,000. Its protagonist attends Seven Sisters High School (“Sevens” for short), whose emblem is considered a status symbol even amongst students from other schools. Soon, though, a rumor that Sevens’ emblem was actually cursed, and that wearing it would disfigure one’s face, had spread around the city. Even worse, the rumor came true. And it was only the beginning of a string of rumors becoming reality, one after another. Before long, the protagonists discover the power to summon another side of them called “Personas,” which they use to investigate the strange incidents around the city, all while facing their own personal demons as well. Time is once again on the march…

PlayStation Network

Saints Row 2 — Saints Row 2 takes place a few years after the original. Several new upstart gangs have been able to sweep in and make their mark on Stilwater. At the same time, a multi-national conglomerate known as the Ultor Corporation has become a pivotal player in city politics, pumping millions of dollars into rebuilding the metropolis.

As leader of the Saints, you’ll have to do whatever it takes to protect the members of your gang from new enemies, including the Ultor Corporation and rival gangs.

Resident Evil 4 — The HD version of Resident Evil 4 comes to the PS3, featuring improved visuals that will enhance the player’s gaming experience. Six years have passed since Raccoon City was destroyed and the government has dismantled the Umbrella Corporation from the inside-out. But the terror is not over. Now a U.S. Agent, former Raccoon Police Officer Leon Kennedy has been dispatched on a mission to Europe to save the President’s daughter from a “crazed organization” that bares a striking behavioral resemblance to creatures found in the Arklay Mountains. Is there a connection between these foes and the horrible nightmares from the past?

Burnout Crash (Demo Available) — Burnout Crash packs countless hours of reckless chaos into an easy to pick up, but difficult to master gameplay experience. There are three explosive game modes available across 18 crash junctions in six unique locations, each requiring different skills and strategies to maximize damage and destroy everything in sight. With a variety of player vehicles to unlock, high-value targets to seek and destroy, and crazy surprise features to discover, players will be hooked on an adrenaline-fueled rampage to the top of the Crashwall.

Cubixx HD (Demo Available) — Use your laser to cut away the surfaces of a mysterious cube and free the energy within. Cutting longer lines and crossing multiple cube surfaces gives you bigger combos, but at far greater risk. Can you brave this hazardous environment and complete all 20 levels? Old-school, high score-chasing gameplay with a modern twist. Do you have what it takes to top the high score table and become number one?

Altered Beast — Destroy all enemies to rescue the fair maiden. Your powers increase when you destroy certain enemies and take their energy; once you achieve a certain energy level, you can alter your shape into that of a beast!

Bolt — In Disney’s Bolt, players take on the heroic personas of the TV star dog, Bolt, and his owner, Penny, from the high-action television series featured within the film. As Bolt, players can use his superpowers, including laser vision and his superbark, which sends out a sonic blast to devastate opponents, and as Penny, players utilize stealth, hacking skills and a wheelbar, inspired by her scooter seen in the movie, to outwit enemies.

minis

  • Edge — Develop your telekinetic strength by pushing a Cube within a geometric universe. Platforms, enigmas and reflexes combine to make Edge a rich and very comprehensive game.

PSone Classic

Chrono Trigger — Living in the seemingly peaceful kingdom of Guardia in 1000 A.D., the child Crono was chosen by guardian spirits to save the world from ultimate devastation. Though Doomsday will not happen until the year 1999, the ancient seeds of destruction were planted long ago the the evil LAVOS. Your mission in the world of Chrono Trigger is to travel back and forth through time to change the course of history, and stop LAVOS from succeeding in his dark plan. On your journey, you will battle monsters and meet many helpful people in both the past and the future. Some will become your faithful and powerful companions, while others will give you clues by telling you stories.
Final Fantasy VI — With Edgar’s tools, Terra’s magic, Sabin’s fists and the skills of a dozen additional characters, the Returners need only your help to seize victory from the Empire. Summon the power of the espers, magical creatures enslaved by the Empire.

  • Rey, I think you made a mistake.

Hasn’t Mass Effect 2 been on the PSN for a long time already? It’s not like it will become available next week!

All I want is a release date.
You've been ignoring me for months.

  • Resident Evil 4 FAIL FAIL FAIL
    No platinum = No buy

Capcom fails and Sony fails for allowing it.

  • Also… aren’t ME2 and SR2 already on the store? :)

  • YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can finally play and enjoy FFVI!!!!!

  • Is Castlevania: Harmony of Despair still releasing in September? It was announced for “the end of the summer” & summer will be over on the 23rd. Seems like it should be releasing on the 20th. Is it going to release on the 20th or the 27th or (hopefully not) next month?

  • Is code veronica next week?

And…wasn’t Mass Effect 2 already on the PSN?

    @Digital-Big-Boss
It’s got trophies at least. I don’t mind the disclusion of a platinum. Since it’s just a redundant way of saying “you got 100%”

  • Looks like there’s something for everyone this week. I’ll be picking up FFVI! Any idea if Lumines 1 and/or 2 for PSP will be released on PSN? I can’t find a copy of it anywhere!!

  • No Castlevania Harmony of Despair date yet? Konami and Sony have been waaaaay too quiet on the game. No release on Sept. 20 means they missed their target of “End of Summer”. The wait is killing me. Is there any information that can be given? What’s taking so long??

  • One of the best drops EVER!!!

Not to mention the AWESOME week por Plus members with RE1, 2 and 3 for free, and 4 with a 50% discount…

  • wait wait wait wait, what you mean “Mass Effect 2 — Returning to PSN”??
it already on the PSN over 6 month ago…
i know cuz i bought it at 60$

  • Harmony of Despair was billed as a SUMMER release.

The first day of Autumn is the 23rd of September.

Unless the game releases this week then we’ve been lied to for MONTHS.

  • Chrono Trigger AND Final Fantasy VI!!!! Looks like I’m in for some nostalgia this week. Awesomeness!

  • PSone classics needed:

Die Hard Trilogy, Soul Blade, MDK, Return Fire, Tenchu. Thanks.

  • RE4 and ff6 here we go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @Sria

Xbox gets the equivalent of a platinum, yet we don’t get platinum.
There is no excuse for that.

  • Are you sure RE4 has move support? this is my first time hearing about it and I can’t find any news about it outside of this post.

  • Nice week for PS1 Classics. <3

  • Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy VI in the same week? Wow. Awesome update guys.

  • Wow, CC and ff6. Awesome. What’s the price for these?

    This a really good update.

  • omg, every week comments complaining and moaning about castlevania. Konami makes the game, not the blog poster.

  • yea the time has come so that i can buy RE 4 HD been waiting 4 along time

  • Chrono Trigger and FFVI at the same time? =0 ZOMG

    Burnout Crash? Interesting

  • @29

On the facebook page Konami has stated they don’t know the release date, that it’s currently going through the submission process with Sony. Apparently Konami doesn’t know and Sony is taking their time with it from the looks of it.

  • Can’t wait for RE4. Never played, and I enjoyed RE5.

  • Chrono Trigger & FF6 — the two best PSOne classics together in one week!!! Yes, these are going on my PSP Go this Tuesday, and will be carrying over to my vita on day 1. Thanks to everyone responsible for making this happen!

  • Oh, and are the loading times for Chrono Trigger fixed?

  • @29

We’re well aware. Konami, unfortunately, has told us on their Facebook page that the issue is on Sony’s end. So this is about the best way to look for answers. I think the fact that Konami was willing to take a moment to respond and Sony repeatedly refuses to make a statement on the subject pretty much speaks for itself.

I think the fact that we have to make a fuss every single week is a bit ridiculous. It isn’t hard for someone who knows something helpful to take ten seconds to say something -ANYTHING- on the subject.

  • Rey. It would really be appreciated by tons of fans if there were any news at all on Castlevania: Harmony of Despair. Even if that news is to say “It’s still under review” or “It’s releasing next month”. Just let us know something.

  • how much memory does resident evil 4 take up on the ps3 hard drive to download??????

  • Child of Eden is out this week? Are you guys sure about this? GameStop and a lot of other sources say that is going to be released in 9/27.

    • You guys are on a roll. Thanks for keeping me on my feet! Yes, Child of Eden is expected on next week’s The Drop.

  • Aaaahhhh!!! Chrono Trigger already got me really excited, but Final Fantasy too?! Aaaahhhh!!!

  • any Idea when the U.S PSN Store will back? I keep getting the maintenance message?

  • since we are getting more full game releases on PSN I think is time to give them their own category name like the psone or umd legacy games, it would definitely catch more peoples attention than throwing them with the rest of the 10-15 dollars games.

  • Also, hasn’t Altered Beast already been released as well? Is it different than the one I’m currently looking at in the Playstation Store?

  • Now, if only we could get Rez, itself! I would be in bliss!

  • Will RE4 and Code Veronica be available at retail or is it just a PS store release? I’d love to have the physical copy of those games like the other collections. Also is FF6 the snes FF3(in the U.S.) ? If so I must buy it! I have heard great things, but never played it. Chrono Trigger deserves a purchase as well, that game was great.

  • Ico and Shadows of the collosuswill be available in psn store???

  • where is castlevania harmony of despair? quit ignoring us already and give us a release date!!!

  • Burnout CRASH! I can’t wait for getting that! :DDDD

  • Since when is Child of Eden scheduled for this week? It was announced for 27th (next week) and every retailer still has it pegged on that date.

  • most deceiving update ever!
JOKE!! :D thanks Rey 4 your “always appreciated” drop post!
Final Fantasy VI here i come!! <3
