The Drop: Week of September 19th 2011 New Releases (UPDATED)

UPDATE: This post incorrectly identified the release of two PSone Classics, Final Fantasy VI and Chrono Trigger. These titles will not be releasing on PSN at this time. We sincerely regret the error.

The Drop is teeming with PlayStation greatness on all fronts, with titles arriving on PS3, PSP, PSN, PS Move, PS minis and PSone Classics.

Two of Square Enix’s critically acclaimed, PSone fan-favorites arrive on PSN. Former Raccoon City police officer Leon Kennedy dons a new HD uniform in Resident Evil 4. Summon your Persona in the first day of school at Seven Sisters High School on your PSP. Deck yourself in every shade of purple when you take on the Ultor Corporation and rival gangs in Saints Row 2 for digital download on PS3.

There is magnitude of gaming to be had on the last week of summer. Enjoy the megaton that is The Drop.

PlayStation 3

Supremacy MMA — Supremacy MMA brings the brutality of unsanctioned and unlicensed MMA fighting to the bigtime, favoring fast-and-furious gameplay and underground aesthetics over official branding and television-style presentation. The game aims to raise the bar in the MMA space by bringing an unprecedented level of fast, fluid combat, intuitive controls and true-to-the-sport brutality.

PlayStation Portable

Persona 2: Innocent Sin (Also on PSN) — The story takes place in Sumaru City, Japan, population 1,280,000. Its protagonist attends Seven Sisters High School (“Sevens” for short), whose emblem is considered a status symbol even amongst students from other schools. Soon, though, a rumor that Sevens’ emblem was actually cursed, and that wearing it would disfigure one’s face, had spread around the city. Even worse, the rumor came true. And it was only the beginning of a string of rumors becoming reality, one after another. Before long, the protagonists discover the power to summon another side of them called “Personas,” which they use to investigate the strange incidents around the city, all while facing their own personal demons as well. Time is once again on the march…

PlayStation Network

Saints Row 2 — Saints Row 2 takes place a few years after the original. Several new upstart gangs have been able to sweep in and make their mark on Stilwater. At the same time, a multi-national conglomerate known as the Ultor Corporation has become a pivotal player in city politics, pumping millions of dollars into rebuilding the metropolis.

As leader of the Saints, you’ll have to do whatever it takes to protect the members of your gang from new enemies, including the Ultor Corporation and rival gangs.

Resident Evil 4 — The HD version of Resident Evil 4 comes to the PS3, featuring improved visuals that will enhance the player’s gaming experience. Six years have passed since Raccoon City was destroyed and the government has dismantled the Umbrella Corporation from the inside-out. But the terror is not over. Now a U.S. Agent, former Raccoon Police Officer Leon Kennedy has been dispatched on a mission to Europe to save the President’s daughter from a “crazed organization” that bares a striking behavioral resemblance to creatures found in the Arklay Mountains. Is there a connection between these foes and the horrible nightmares from the past?

Burnout Crash (Demo Available) — Burnout Crash packs countless hours of reckless chaos into an easy to pick up, but difficult to master gameplay experience. There are three explosive game modes available across 18 crash junctions in six unique locations, each requiring different skills and strategies to maximize damage and destroy everything in sight. With a variety of player vehicles to unlock, high-value targets to seek and destroy, and crazy surprise features to discover, players will be hooked on an adrenaline-fueled rampage to the top of the Crashwall.

Cubixx HD (Demo Available) — Use your laser to cut away the surfaces of a mysterious cube and free the energy within. Cutting longer lines and crossing multiple cube surfaces gives you bigger combos, but at far greater risk. Can you brave this hazardous environment and complete all 20 levels? Old-school, high score-chasing gameplay with a modern twist. Do you have what it takes to top the high score table and become number one?

Altered Beast — Destroy all enemies to rescue the fair maiden. Your powers increase when you destroy certain enemies and take their energy; once you achieve a certain energy level, you can alter your shape into that of a beast!

Bolt — In Disney’s Bolt, players take on the heroic personas of the TV star dog, Bolt, and his owner, Penny, from the high-action television series featured within the film. As Bolt, players can use his superpowers, including laser vision and his superbark, which sends out a sonic blast to devastate opponents, and as Penny, players utilize stealth, hacking skills and a wheelbar, inspired by her scooter seen in the movie, to outwit enemies.

minis

  • Edge — Develop your telekinetic strength by pushing a Cube within a geometric universe. Platforms, enigmas and reflexes combine to make Edge a rich and very comprehensive game.

PSone Classic

Chrono Trigger — Living in the seemingly peaceful kingdom of Guardia in 1000 A.D., the child Crono was chosen by guardian spirits to save the world from ultimate devastation. Though Doomsday will not happen until the year 1999, the ancient seeds of destruction were planted long ago the the evil LAVOS. Your mission in the world of Chrono Trigger is to travel back and forth through time to change the course of history, and stop LAVOS from succeeding in his dark plan. On your journey, you will battle monsters and meet many helpful people in both the past and the future. Some will become your faithful and powerful companions, while others will give you clues by telling you stories.
Final Fantasy VI — With Edgar’s tools, Terra’s magic, Sabin’s fists and the skills of a dozen additional characters, the Returners need only your help to seize victory from the Empire. Summon the power of the espers, magical creatures enslaved by the Empire.

    Persona 2: Innocent Sin

Did I read right? Hell yeah!! Best update in a long time!! THANKS!! =D

  • Nice. Resident Evil 4, no worries about trophies. Do you need a digital recognition to tell you what you already did? It’s not like you need a reward in a game for doing what you’re supposed to do.

I never knew Bolt was such a likable game. Suprises me that it’s there.

  • It’s looking like FFVI is 185mb in Japan, so i would expect it to be somewhere around there size-wise. Can’t dig anything up on Chrono, perhaps it has not been released in other territories yet?

  • No Payday: The Heist this week?!

  • Why is mass effect 2 full price on psn when its just a digital download and its been out for over a year??

  • I don’t see Castlevania:HD Anywhere on this list …

    i am disappoint …

  • Still no Castlevania?
    COME ON!!!

  • Way to reply to a bunch of crap that isn’t Harmony of Despair. >.>;;;

  • I look forward to picking up RE:4, Chrono Trigger, and FFVI. Plus, I’ll get RE1, RE2, and RE3 for free. Looks like I’m not going to get anything done next week ; )

  • Rey likes to ignore its fellow customers… sigh still no info on Castlevania HoD

  • Hey ray will re4 is going to have Trophy ?

  • Woo-hoo!!!!! Chrono and FFVI!!!!!!!!!
    Still no Castlevania HoD?

  • HOLY CRAP! CHRONO TRIGGER?!?!?!?!

  • Hey, what about Portal 2 DLC? The end of summer is fast approaching!

  • Just so people know, there are better versions of Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy VI out there.

  • YES! Finally, my favorite game of all time is coming to PSN. So I can play on my PS3 and PSP… and PSVita later on! <3 I love Final Fantasy VI more than anything. I love Terra Branford (obviously). So, praise be to yevon for it hitting the store here.

-squees- Did I mention I love this game? I'm still waiting to see Terra transform into her Esper form in CG. Come on Square, you know you want to make it happen.

  • @69: All versions of Final Fantasy VI are worth playing. Get out of here you.

  • CHRONO TRIGGER. Awwwwww yeaaaahhh!

Does anyone know if you can play CHILD OF EDEN without the move controller? I know you can play it on 360 without kinect

  • People still remember how awful the PS1 ports of FFVI and CT are/were right?

Inexplicable load times, a questionable localization choice, and sound emulation issues abound. They are some of, if not the, worst ports of these wonderful classics ever released so don’t reward Square-Enix for this kind of slimy greed.

  • Chrono trigger and FF6!!!! As far as I’m concerned, you guys can take a couple months off!!!!!!!!1

  • looking forward 4 final fantasy and resident evil!!!! i always appreciate ur drop post actually is very useful, thanks REY for the information.

  • Final Fantasy VI and Chrono Trigger….. THANK YOU!!! Get me FF5, FF1, FF2, FF1PSP, FF2PSP and a remake of FF3 and I will be a happy Square Fan.

Resident Evil 4 with no Move Support…… Le *sigh*….. Please fix.

  • @68 ask valve that question

  • wish that the psone version of ffvi had a updated script similar to the gba version. Oh well ^_^, cant wait to play this game again, and to play Chrono trigger for the first time.

  • Why are people complaining about Castlevania HD? That game is horrible.

  • Still a little peeved that you guys refuse to answers ANYONE’S questions about Harmony of Despair. I don’t understand why you guys are so secretive about it.

  • Wow, good week.

    RE4 HD
    Chrono Trigger
    FFVI
    Persona 2

Any price info for FFVI or Chrono Trigger?

  • @ 80

simply cause they don’t care about there customers

  • Chrono Cross where arth thou?

  • So sick, I’ve been waiting for RE4 HD for a while now since I read about its release in japan weeks ago, also really awesome that they’re giving away the RE 1-3 package, and EVEN MORE AWESOME THAT CHRONIC TRIGGER [DELETED]

yes, its about time chrono trigger came to a console like this.

  • You know, many people have been waiting for Castlevania Harmony of Despair to come to PSN for a year now. And when CV HD facebook FINALLY gave us some news on a release date, they said “before the end of summer” and “during september”. The 20th is the day “during september and before the end of summer”. I am through with waiting. Please tell me its coming on the 20th. I thought you wanted to make lots of money, Sony.

  • Since FFVI is most likely the PS1 version, does that mean it will have the inexcusable terrible load times?

Come on, it was a less then 5MG Games on a 700 MG disc…

  • yeah the made new awsome upgarde

  • Bah, MB, not MG.

  • NO GOOD 4 RE4 N CODE:VERONICA….. CHRONO N FF IS GOOD LOL…… I WANT MORE KOF IN NEO-GEO STATION 4 PLEASE DUDES!!!!!!! WHEN DA KOF 98UM?????

  • I wanna know if RE4 and Code Veronica will be also realized on blu-ray discs?

  • The problem with having Chrono Trigger and FF6 on PSN is that the loading times wont be optimized which is unfortunate. I cant think of one PS1 game on PSN that is optimized for speed, Wing Commander 4 is incredibly slow to load, Puzzle Fighter and Street Fighter are slow to load in and out of matches. It seems to be running by the speed it was on disk which shouldn’t be the case.

  • :O Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy 4 AND RE4?? BEST DROP EVER

  • We’re still getting the Resident Evil 1 2 & 3 free this week right?

  • Hey Rey , Do You Know The Prices For Any Of These Games?

  • So I figure this is a long shot, but… What if I already bought the PSone games that I now get for free for being a Plus member…? I’m pretty sure that doesn’t mean I get a refund for what I spent on them, right…? lol Just wonderin’…

  • @84
Perhaps they have a grudge against Konami? Haha.

  • I wish I was a PSN subscriber :(

  • lol what the heck my Plus thing isnt on my avatar here xD funny

  • ok i had to logout and log back in for it to appear :)
