The Drop: Week of September 19th 2011 New Releases (UPDATED)

UPDATE: This post incorrectly identified the release of two PSone Classics, Final Fantasy VI and Chrono Trigger. These titles will not be releasing on PSN at this time. We sincerely regret the error.

The Drop is teeming with PlayStation greatness on all fronts, with titles arriving on PS3, PSP, PSN, PS Move, PS minis and PSone Classics.

Two of Square Enix’s critically acclaimed, PSone fan-favorites arrive on PSN. Former Raccoon City police officer Leon Kennedy dons a new HD uniform in Resident Evil 4. Summon your Persona in the first day of school at Seven Sisters High School on your PSP. Deck yourself in every shade of purple when you take on the Ultor Corporation and rival gangs in Saints Row 2 for digital download on PS3.

There is magnitude of gaming to be had on the last week of summer. Enjoy the megaton that is The Drop.

PlayStation 3

Supremacy MMA — Supremacy MMA brings the brutality of unsanctioned and unlicensed MMA fighting to the bigtime, favoring fast-and-furious gameplay and underground aesthetics over official branding and television-style presentation. The game aims to raise the bar in the MMA space by bringing an unprecedented level of fast, fluid combat, intuitive controls and true-to-the-sport brutality.

PlayStation Portable

Persona 2: Innocent Sin (Also on PSN) — The story takes place in Sumaru City, Japan, population 1,280,000. Its protagonist attends Seven Sisters High School (“Sevens” for short), whose emblem is considered a status symbol even amongst students from other schools. Soon, though, a rumor that Sevens’ emblem was actually cursed, and that wearing it would disfigure one’s face, had spread around the city. Even worse, the rumor came true. And it was only the beginning of a string of rumors becoming reality, one after another. Before long, the protagonists discover the power to summon another side of them called “Personas,” which they use to investigate the strange incidents around the city, all while facing their own personal demons as well. Time is once again on the march…

PlayStation Network

Saints Row 2 — Saints Row 2 takes place a few years after the original. Several new upstart gangs have been able to sweep in and make their mark on Stilwater. At the same time, a multi-national conglomerate known as the Ultor Corporation has become a pivotal player in city politics, pumping millions of dollars into rebuilding the metropolis.

As leader of the Saints, you’ll have to do whatever it takes to protect the members of your gang from new enemies, including the Ultor Corporation and rival gangs.

Resident Evil 4 — The HD version of Resident Evil 4 comes to the PS3, featuring improved visuals that will enhance the player’s gaming experience. Six years have passed since Raccoon City was destroyed and the government has dismantled the Umbrella Corporation from the inside-out. But the terror is not over. Now a U.S. Agent, former Raccoon Police Officer Leon Kennedy has been dispatched on a mission to Europe to save the President’s daughter from a “crazed organization” that bares a striking behavioral resemblance to creatures found in the Arklay Mountains. Is there a connection between these foes and the horrible nightmares from the past?

Burnout Crash (Demo Available) — Burnout Crash packs countless hours of reckless chaos into an easy to pick up, but difficult to master gameplay experience. There are three explosive game modes available across 18 crash junctions in six unique locations, each requiring different skills and strategies to maximize damage and destroy everything in sight. With a variety of player vehicles to unlock, high-value targets to seek and destroy, and crazy surprise features to discover, players will be hooked on an adrenaline-fueled rampage to the top of the Crashwall.

Cubixx HD (Demo Available) — Use your laser to cut away the surfaces of a mysterious cube and free the energy within. Cutting longer lines and crossing multiple cube surfaces gives you bigger combos, but at far greater risk. Can you brave this hazardous environment and complete all 20 levels? Old-school, high score-chasing gameplay with a modern twist. Do you have what it takes to top the high score table and become number one?

Altered Beast — Destroy all enemies to rescue the fair maiden. Your powers increase when you destroy certain enemies and take their energy; once you achieve a certain energy level, you can alter your shape into that of a beast!

Bolt — In Disney’s Bolt, players take on the heroic personas of the TV star dog, Bolt, and his owner, Penny, from the high-action television series featured within the film. As Bolt, players can use his superpowers, including laser vision and his superbark, which sends out a sonic blast to devastate opponents, and as Penny, players utilize stealth, hacking skills and a wheelbar, inspired by her scooter seen in the movie, to outwit enemies.

minis

  • Edge — Develop your telekinetic strength by pushing a Cube within a geometric universe. Platforms, enigmas and reflexes combine to make Edge a rich and very comprehensive game.

PSone Classic

Chrono Trigger — Living in the seemingly peaceful kingdom of Guardia in 1000 A.D., the child Crono was chosen by guardian spirits to save the world from ultimate devastation. Though Doomsday will not happen until the year 1999, the ancient seeds of destruction were planted long ago the the evil LAVOS. Your mission in the world of Chrono Trigger is to travel back and forth through time to change the course of history, and stop LAVOS from succeeding in his dark plan. On your journey, you will battle monsters and meet many helpful people in both the past and the future. Some will become your faithful and powerful companions, while others will give you clues by telling you stories.
Final Fantasy VI — With Edgar’s tools, Terra’s magic, Sabin’s fists and the skills of a dozen additional characters, the Returners need only your help to seize victory from the Empire. Summon the power of the espers, magical creatures enslaved by the Empire.

  • get the final fantasy classics rolling already! Europe has FFIV, FFV, FFVI already!!! Not to mention their getting HD REMASTERED FFX as a cross platform with PS VITA! http://www.thesixthaxis.com/2011/09/14/final-fantasy-x-hd-announced-for-ps3-and-vita/ (idk that that’s exclusive to europe but still)

  • @ Dustinjm100 It says this tuesday dude

  • Prolly the best week of great PSN releases of all time…

  • CHRONO TRIGGER AND FFVI YES YES YES.

    AND I GETTING RE1-4.

  • @99
    The store updates Tuesday.

  • OH
    HOW MUCH IS RE4?

  • This Rey guys an idiot.

  • Dear PlayStation,

Please port over the DS version of Chrono Trigger to the PSP with enhanced graphics. Also, please port over Final Fantasy III (DS), Final Fantasy V (GBA), and Final Fantasy VI (GBA) to the PSP.

We would all love to see them remastered with improved visuals, audio quality, fast load times (data install is fine), etc. All of us hardcore fans are still waiting.

Square-Enix did a fantastic job with Final Fantasy 1, Final Fantasy 2, and Final Fantasy 4 on the PSP. Please give the same updated treatment for Final Fantasy 3, Final Fantasy 5, Final Fantasy 6, and Chrono Trigger.

    ALSO!

We would love to see Chrono Cross and The Legend of Dragoon as PSone Classics uploaded to the PlayStation Store.

    Personally, I would gladly pay:

    Chrono Cross (PSone Classic)
    $10 ~ $15

    Chrono Trigger (PSP)
    $20 ~ $40

    Final Fantasy III (PSP)
    $20 ~ $40

    Final Fantasy V (PSP)
    $20 ~ $40

    Final Fantasy VI (PSP)
    $20 ~ $40

The Legend of Dragoon (PSone Classic)
    $10 ~ $15

Or if possible, can you please remaster Final Fantasy III, V, and VI and put them on 3 separate UMD’s and package them all into 1 case? I would easily pay like $50 for such a package!

  • wanna see digimon world up there or digimon world 2 cmon ya know b4 digimon world re digitized comes out

  • Oh~

And thank you very much for Resident Evil 4 HD. I also can’t wait for Resident Evil Code Veronica X HD as well! In preparation for these 2 and many other things, I have purchased a $50 PSN Card for my account. =D

  • I really hope you guys are not going to wait and release Castlevania Harmony of Despair close to Halloween. #1 we were already told September and #2 you’ve got Dark Souls coming out then. You guys should quit sitting on your hands and release this amazing game before everyone looses interest in it. We already had to wait for the 1 year crap60 exclusivity to be up. We shouldn’t have to wait any longer on a game that’s already been submitted. Speed up your submission process and release it. Please.

  • Thanks for fixing the Child of Eden release date. One last thing: I think F1 2011 is going to be released this week for PS3.

  • so are they ever going to bring back megaman legends great game and its no were to be found or even star ocean the second story. but i do like the RE4 and crono trigger great games

  • Definitely getting RE4 HD and RE: CVX HD. (Yes there will be a RE: Code Veronica X HD version coming)

  • Oops. 6, not 4*
Though I would like to see 4 find its way here. As well as 1, 2, and 5.

  • Man, this is one awesome week.

  • are you guys ever gonna put lengen of legala on the psn or start to put ps2 games to buy on it?

  • still nothing on castlevania HoD? they need to get somebody else who will reply to peoples question cause Rey isn’t sure helping…

  • How much is Resident Evil 4HD going to cost?

  • No MOVE support for RE4 is UNACCEPTABLE!! The perfect game for the MOVE. To not support the MOVE with that particular game is mind boggling!! It is decisions like this that stunt the growth of new technology. That is going to affect the sale of that item for sure. I was excited for this but not anymore.

  • Too bad Saints Row 2 doesn’t have trophies, even tho the greatest hits box says it does.

  • Nothing for me this week. No platinum in RE4 is a joke. Tired of Capcom screwing us over.

And FFVI and CT would be two more PS1 classics where the nostalgia would wear off in about an hour and I’ll never play them again.

  • O.O!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Final Fantasy VI AND Chrono Trigger :D!!!!!!!!! Heck to the yes!

  • As excited I am for Harmony of Despair; I wanted it chiefly to hold me over until Dark Souls launched. If it doesn’t release until October because Sony wants to sit on it and release it as a Halloween themed game; they’ve lost my business on that sale.

  • FINALLY FF6!!!!

  • Slow week, thank God. Just finished R3 and need some time to get my platinum.

  • Oh boy! I can’t wait until my birthday now ^^ I’m getting a new PS3, because my old one’s graphics card got warped out, and I can get RE4 <3 That's my favorite Resident Evil, next to the original Directors Cut!. Chrono Trigger and FFVI too!! Great job PSN, you're making kick butt decisions!

  • Rey, where’s F1 2011? It’s out this week as far as I know.

  • for the love of God why is nobody from sony or konami addressing the fans that are going crazy trying to get information on Castlevania: HOD…. what the hell is going on about this game that we need to know?

  • @ 129

seems like they are both trolling with us for the past weeks….

  • Yes!!!!! Getting chrono trigger and final fantasy 6 as well as persona 2 innocent sin. My psp is happy this week. Hey guys add me on psn, just got my ps3 last month and looking for some buddies.

  • Wow, what a week. Chrono trigger and final VI + res 4 HD. Now all we new is chrono cross

  • can I have RE4 HD now?…PLZ!? T_T

  • re 4, ff vi, and crono trigger for me :) Gotta get a psn card tomorrow.

  • Yes! Chrono Trigger finally

  • Forget Resident Evil 4, re-release Outbreak in HD. That game had replay-ability and didn’t have to rip off action movies from the 1980s. It just required an PS2HDD, which comes

  • last week of summer and yet no Portal 2 DLC yet?

  • Please tell me chrono trigger has trophies!?!?!?!

  • As I said last week ,Can we please get someone more competent to do these drop posts . I mean the guy doesn’t even know what’s dropping . Besides him and the ball .

Also why do you take the time to answer(not even an answer just a comment) the same thing more than once . Couldn’t that time be used to answer more pertinent questions ?

And why is it so hard to give out prices ? When you buy games ANYWHERE else you are allowed to know the price well in advance of the game actually coming out . Do I not give you(SCEA) enough of my money ?

  • What’s the deal on RE4? Why is the PSN version kind of, you know, lacking? Ps3 could have had move support and there’s no reason not to have a platinum if the competing platform can have the equivalent. There’s is absolutely no advantage to buying that game on PSN. Still a good game, but truly a disservice from capcom.

  • FFVI i can’t wait to get my hands on it. I love all FF games.

  • Chrono Trigger!!!!! You guys just made me the happiest Playstation fan!

  • I hope Final Fantasy V gets its chance to shine as well. Boco and Gilgamesh shouldn’t be forgotten.

  • will chrono trigger and final fantasy 6 be the updated versions that was released on the GBA and DS?

  • Very nice drop, thanks for the post Rey. I was wondering can you tell us how much Resident Evil 4 is going to cost? I’ve yet to beat that game and it would be cool to play in HD.

Also I was wondering, why aren’t the prices given in these drop posts? It be cool if they were added so people could like plan ahead or something. Not trying to be rude or anything just curious, are you guys in the dark until Tuesday? If I could get a answer back on both of my questions that would be great, again thanks for the awesome drop!

  • Haha, the PS1 Classics completely overshadow the HD release of Resident Evil 4 (which is awesome in and of itself). That’s a pretty sweet problem to have.

  • @144 Obviously not, these are the Playstation versions of the games. Hence the category “PSone Classic”.
