The Drop: Week of September 19th 2011 New Releases (UPDATED)

UPDATE: This post incorrectly identified the release of two PSone Classics, Final Fantasy VI and Chrono Trigger. These titles will not be releasing on PSN at this time. We sincerely regret the error.

The Drop is teeming with PlayStation greatness on all fronts, with titles arriving on PS3, PSP, PSN, PS Move, PS minis and PSone Classics.

Two of Square Enix’s critically acclaimed, PSone fan-favorites arrive on PSN. Former Raccoon City police officer Leon Kennedy dons a new HD uniform in Resident Evil 4. Summon your Persona in the first day of school at Seven Sisters High School on your PSP. Deck yourself in every shade of purple when you take on the Ultor Corporation and rival gangs in Saints Row 2 for digital download on PS3.

There is magnitude of gaming to be had on the last week of summer. Enjoy the megaton that is The Drop.

PlayStation 3

Supremacy MMA — Supremacy MMA brings the brutality of unsanctioned and unlicensed MMA fighting to the bigtime, favoring fast-and-furious gameplay and underground aesthetics over official branding and television-style presentation. The game aims to raise the bar in the MMA space by bringing an unprecedented level of fast, fluid combat, intuitive controls and true-to-the-sport brutality.

PlayStation Portable

Persona 2: Innocent Sin (Also on PSN) — The story takes place in Sumaru City, Japan, population 1,280,000. Its protagonist attends Seven Sisters High School (“Sevens” for short), whose emblem is considered a status symbol even amongst students from other schools. Soon, though, a rumor that Sevens’ emblem was actually cursed, and that wearing it would disfigure one’s face, had spread around the city. Even worse, the rumor came true. And it was only the beginning of a string of rumors becoming reality, one after another. Before long, the protagonists discover the power to summon another side of them called “Personas,” which they use to investigate the strange incidents around the city, all while facing their own personal demons as well. Time is once again on the march…

PlayStation Network

Saints Row 2 — Saints Row 2 takes place a few years after the original. Several new upstart gangs have been able to sweep in and make their mark on Stilwater. At the same time, a multi-national conglomerate known as the Ultor Corporation has become a pivotal player in city politics, pumping millions of dollars into rebuilding the metropolis.

As leader of the Saints, you’ll have to do whatever it takes to protect the members of your gang from new enemies, including the Ultor Corporation and rival gangs.

Resident Evil 4 — The HD version of Resident Evil 4 comes to the PS3, featuring improved visuals that will enhance the player’s gaming experience. Six years have passed since Raccoon City was destroyed and the government has dismantled the Umbrella Corporation from the inside-out. But the terror is not over. Now a U.S. Agent, former Raccoon Police Officer Leon Kennedy has been dispatched on a mission to Europe to save the President’s daughter from a “crazed organization” that bares a striking behavioral resemblance to creatures found in the Arklay Mountains. Is there a connection between these foes and the horrible nightmares from the past?

Burnout Crash (Demo Available) — Burnout Crash packs countless hours of reckless chaos into an easy to pick up, but difficult to master gameplay experience. There are three explosive game modes available across 18 crash junctions in six unique locations, each requiring different skills and strategies to maximize damage and destroy everything in sight. With a variety of player vehicles to unlock, high-value targets to seek and destroy, and crazy surprise features to discover, players will be hooked on an adrenaline-fueled rampage to the top of the Crashwall.

Cubixx HD (Demo Available) — Use your laser to cut away the surfaces of a mysterious cube and free the energy within. Cutting longer lines and crossing multiple cube surfaces gives you bigger combos, but at far greater risk. Can you brave this hazardous environment and complete all 20 levels? Old-school, high score-chasing gameplay with a modern twist. Do you have what it takes to top the high score table and become number one?

Altered Beast — Destroy all enemies to rescue the fair maiden. Your powers increase when you destroy certain enemies and take their energy; once you achieve a certain energy level, you can alter your shape into that of a beast!

Bolt — In Disney’s Bolt, players take on the heroic personas of the TV star dog, Bolt, and his owner, Penny, from the high-action television series featured within the film. As Bolt, players can use his superpowers, including laser vision and his superbark, which sends out a sonic blast to devastate opponents, and as Penny, players utilize stealth, hacking skills and a wheelbar, inspired by her scooter seen in the movie, to outwit enemies.

minis

  • Edge — Develop your telekinetic strength by pushing a Cube within a geometric universe. Platforms, enigmas and reflexes combine to make Edge a rich and very comprehensive game.

PSone Classic

Chrono Trigger — Living in the seemingly peaceful kingdom of Guardia in 1000 A.D., the child Crono was chosen by guardian spirits to save the world from ultimate devastation. Though Doomsday will not happen until the year 1999, the ancient seeds of destruction were planted long ago the the evil LAVOS. Your mission in the world of Chrono Trigger is to travel back and forth through time to change the course of history, and stop LAVOS from succeeding in his dark plan. On your journey, you will battle monsters and meet many helpful people in both the past and the future. Some will become your faithful and powerful companions, while others will give you clues by telling you stories.
Final Fantasy VI — With Edgar’s tools, Terra’s magic, Sabin’s fists and the skills of a dozen additional characters, the Returners need only your help to seize victory from the Empire. Summon the power of the espers, magical creatures enslaved by the Empire.

  • Wow, went from getting two great games to NOTHING!

  • Nice screw up with the PS1 classics. I don’t even care about those half-ass PS1 ports of the SNES games, but a lot of people were looking forward to them, and are going to be disappointed when they can’t download them tomorrow.

You should be fired from this “Drop” business. You and the rest of the US PSN staff continue to be an absolute joke.

  • Finally people are starting to realize. Rey was terrible even back to when he was with Destructoid.

  • Blessing in disguise. Nobody should be paying money for ports this bad.

  • Aaaawww!! No more PSone Classics this week? Really bad news indeed =/
    Well… they’ll be coming. Someday…….

  • Wow… A lot of good content and not enough money. Just my luck, guess I’m going w/ RE4 right now since I still need to beat Breath of Fire 4 and a couple of other good titles on my PSP. I see people complaining all the time on this site about there not being enough content for the PSP, heck… play your PS1 Classics on it and you’ll never run out of things to do!!!

  • i was really looking forward to FF6 and Chrono Trigger, but oh well. i wonder what happened? a lot of people are going to go crazy when they don’t see FF6 and CT…

  • Great releases! But I wanted Castlevania Harmony of Despair…

  • lol dang, Rey… how many mistakes can you make in a single drop post? I’m not mad but wow

  • Ya you guys need to get your act together pretty pathetic.

  • NVM… Spoke too soon. Those really are good games, I have the PS1 version of both of them and the load times are sooo long. Oh well, at least my wallet gets a much needed break. BTW, who the HELL is doing the Drop now, Rey? Come on man… it’s no big deal it’s just that people don’t like to get excited for nothing…

  • No FFVI? No Chrono Trigger? :'(

  • Wow, that was a bad error… I wish I could change the rating I gave this post from 5 to 0.

  • I think you guys just punched me in the stomach, I saw “Updated” and found CT and FF6 removed. Don’t play with my heart like that.

  • That was too good to be true… oh well…

  • Profound Sadness…

  • Seriously though, you guys can go f*** yourselves.

  • Wow, I wonder what ELSE he missed about the next update.

  • FFVI and Chrono Trigger japanese versions are already available on Asia (Singapore) Store why no US? maybe next week? also with all the new games coming this fall how will people find time to play all these classics? i know i can’t, between work and kids i hardly have time for myself! Anyway will Ico collection be available on PSSTORE?

  • Great….. once again you get me super excited for something (FFVI and CT) and then rip it right from my grasp! Its getting a bit old to be honest. What is the hold up? We have heard the rumors of these two games for months and finally its revealed they are in the coming for PSN but no explanation why they won’t be going up on Tuesday(after you told us they were).

Why can’t we ever just get a simple “Sry, CT and FFVI will not be coming this week because…” I feel like this all too often bitter pill would be easier to swallow if I could just know WHY!?

  • I hope you do sincerely regret the error. At least let us know when are they coming. These kinds of mistakes are not professional.

  • you know you had me really excited for both final fantasy 6 and chrono trigger and now thats crushed ;( but I do look forward to their release :]

  • What a horrific mistake about chrono trigger and final fantasy 6. Even the art on the main page for the link shows Chrono…sheesh.

  • Epic Fail! The Drop this week had more false info than accurate facts. For shame!!!

  • @ fester420…… Trine has a platnium trophy and it was never released as a disc based title.

  • WOW !! Final Fantasy VI and Chrono Trigger, can’t wait to get them both, what could be next Suikoden II ???

  • Sincere apologizes for the errors in this week’s The Drop. We’re already setting up new plans in place so this doesn’t happen again. Thanks again for your patience.

  • Is their a new time frame for Final Fantasy VI & Chrono Trigger?

I’ll ignore the fact that whoever runs your Twitter deleted then reposted this latest error and say thanks for apologizing.

  • Grrrrrrrr……

  • If this was 1994 you would have ruined my Xmas… Good day sir.

  • I was just about to add my credit card back on psn, for the first time since the outage… will we ever get these games?

  • …Okay, I think we deserve an explaination (READ: Give us a red box reply here). WHAT HAPPENED WITH FF6 AND CT. Preferably before the riots begin in earnest…

  • (I normally don’t double post, but I just noticed this)

…And the frontpage link to this post still has that picture of Crono. Yeah. This won’t end well if you guys don’t explain. Even though it probably won’t end well anyway…

  • “Sincere apologizes for the errors in this week’s The Drop. We’re already setting up new plans in place so this doesn’t happen again. Thanks again for your patience.”

Whoa, no red box comment, does this mean the “new plan” include firing you?

  • So when is FFVI and chrono trigger coming out???????

  • Rey, people are going to hate you.

  • Ray when dc universe online is coming out free on PlayStation store?

  • I’m Sick of Sony trashing its costumers Honestly the 3ds my be failing but I’ve had a more enjoyable experience with them then the psp. Why is it that Europe has had FFVI for months now. Then when i finally think great now I can go off of my Sony Boycott you pull this. First you leak our information to hackers cause you lax(to put it nicely)Firewalls and encryption then you tell me how none of the umds I Bought will be worth a penny when we launch our new hand held.. Which BTW just cause you make it so we HAVE to use your Memory sticks doesn’t give you the right to over charge for them. I’ve had problems with Sony for a long time but I tried to stick up for you “its not there fault its the hacks” “well maybe the new games will make the old psp games easier to let go of” Nope I’m tried of defending a company that has no problem stomping on me and everyone else. At least with the 3ds(not to sound like a fan boy) gave me 10 free classic games minus a couple with more on the way you gave me after making me go countless sleepless night 2 free budget games of which i owned 2 and the other 2 are not worth the memory space. It’s kinda hopeless to hold any hope for you as a Hand held gaming company(at least the NA division).

  • Part 2
You know what else pushing your “new model”Psp go (Which was more of a experiment to see if people would drop umd format so easily then you abandon the people that in good faith made the “upgrade”(which is a laughable term for that abortion of a hand held you sold them). So as i see it 3 things need aderssing/fixed for me at least
1.Stop acting like everyone that owns a psp owns a ps3
2.Find away to make it so i can download or in some other way play my umd on the ps vita(which i heard will be announced in japan closer to the launch date)
3.Stop Taking so long to release games we all know are coming like FFVI and Chrono Trigger there’s no good reason fEurope to get them months earlier (The game already exists so its basicly like flipping a switch right)

P.S. and so this isn’t completely negative I’m very excited for the PS vita and would love to buy it(Marvel Vs Capcom 3 and Little Big planet) it looks to show lots of promise for handhelds hopefully you as a company do too.

  • Someone should be fired… I mean, this is a pretty big mess up. Where is the professionalism?

  • Oh well. Better announce a sale for FF4 Complete Collection to make up for it, eh?

  • The drop was already rife with errors before the news of Chrono and FF 6 not releasing. Just a horrible job all the way around. Concentrate on your work and not on getting more Triforce tatoos and alternative haircuts…

  • This is pretty sad Sony. This update was riddled with errors and misinformation. I was really looking forward to getting to play Chrono Trigger and after waiting months for it to finally be announced you finally do, only to retract it. It certainly does not help build any confidence in you guys whatsoever. It’s getting to be unacceptable.

  • And I thought I was going to be able to play Chrono Trigger and FFVI for the first time in my life.

Look’s like i’m going for the GBA release of FFVI and DS version of Chrono Trigger (not a problem, but having digital copy’s of game’s are pretty nice to have)

  • WoW!! You post up a so called Drop for updates once a week and never do a good job, people shouldn’t have to go to other sites on the web to get better information and release dates on games coming out for the PS3. Looks like regular Joes know more than Rey. IMO

  • All of you need to calm down. Sheesh. It was an honest mistake. It happens. MOVE ON.

Anyway, RE4HD is a must buy for me, especially with the 50% Off for PS+ members ;-) And RE1,2, and 3 for FREE. Boom. Winning. Thank you for making me happy I signed up for PS+

NOTE: To those who are asking if RE4HD and/or RE:CVHD will ever be disc-based. I doubt it. Considering the games do not have the same amount of trophies as a disc-based, I don’t see them re-doing the trophies and adding a plat. in the future, just to release it on disc.

And I know and they know a lot of you wouldn’t dare buy it on disc if it didn’t have a precious platinum trophy for you to earn… :-P

  • Zombie Nation also has a platinum trophy despite not being a disc release!
Across the board, if an Xbox360 game is 1000 gamerpoints, the PS3 equivalent has a platinum trophy. Except now I guess…

Yes I like trophies, flame the shiv outta me!

Also! Thanx for the “f” in the “a”!

Between no FF6 and no move support for RE4, I doubt I’ll turn the PS on for anything more then Netflix

    Sorry! No $$$$$ for you!!!

  • Ahhh! And I had big plans for playing Chrono Trigger on the beach this weekend! Oh well, at least we know they’re coming :)

  • “There is magnitude of gaming to be had on the last week of summer. Enjoy the megaton that is The Drop.”

Might wanna update this post again to cross this statement out as well!

  • Wow trained monkeys could do the job better than you guys. If I performed my job as inadequately as you guys do, I probably wouldn’t have a job for very long.

I wasn’t even gonna buy either of them, I really don’t care about them. But seriously get your “STUFF” together guys…
