The Drop: Week of September 19th 2011 New Releases (UPDATED)

UPDATE: This post incorrectly identified the release of two PSone Classics, Final Fantasy VI and Chrono Trigger. These titles will not be releasing on PSN at this time. We sincerely regret the error.

The Drop is teeming with PlayStation greatness on all fronts, with titles arriving on PS3, PSP, PSN, PS Move, PS minis and PSone Classics.

Two of Square Enix’s critically acclaimed, PSone fan-favorites arrive on PSN. Former Raccoon City police officer Leon Kennedy dons a new HD uniform in Resident Evil 4. Summon your Persona in the first day of school at Seven Sisters High School on your PSP. Deck yourself in every shade of purple when you take on the Ultor Corporation and rival gangs in Saints Row 2 for digital download on PS3.

There is magnitude of gaming to be had on the last week of summer. Enjoy the megaton that is The Drop.

PlayStation 3

Supremacy MMA — Supremacy MMA brings the brutality of unsanctioned and unlicensed MMA fighting to the bigtime, favoring fast-and-furious gameplay and underground aesthetics over official branding and television-style presentation. The game aims to raise the bar in the MMA space by bringing an unprecedented level of fast, fluid combat, intuitive controls and true-to-the-sport brutality.

PlayStation Portable

Persona 2: Innocent Sin (Also on PSN) — The story takes place in Sumaru City, Japan, population 1,280,000. Its protagonist attends Seven Sisters High School (“Sevens” for short), whose emblem is considered a status symbol even amongst students from other schools. Soon, though, a rumor that Sevens’ emblem was actually cursed, and that wearing it would disfigure one’s face, had spread around the city. Even worse, the rumor came true. And it was only the beginning of a string of rumors becoming reality, one after another. Before long, the protagonists discover the power to summon another side of them called “Personas,” which they use to investigate the strange incidents around the city, all while facing their own personal demons as well. Time is once again on the march…

PlayStation Network

Saints Row 2 — Saints Row 2 takes place a few years after the original. Several new upstart gangs have been able to sweep in and make their mark on Stilwater. At the same time, a multi-national conglomerate known as the Ultor Corporation has become a pivotal player in city politics, pumping millions of dollars into rebuilding the metropolis.

As leader of the Saints, you’ll have to do whatever it takes to protect the members of your gang from new enemies, including the Ultor Corporation and rival gangs.

Resident Evil 4 — The HD version of Resident Evil 4 comes to the PS3, featuring improved visuals that will enhance the player’s gaming experience. Six years have passed since Raccoon City was destroyed and the government has dismantled the Umbrella Corporation from the inside-out. But the terror is not over. Now a U.S. Agent, former Raccoon Police Officer Leon Kennedy has been dispatched on a mission to Europe to save the President’s daughter from a “crazed organization” that bares a striking behavioral resemblance to creatures found in the Arklay Mountains. Is there a connection between these foes and the horrible nightmares from the past?

Burnout Crash (Demo Available) — Burnout Crash packs countless hours of reckless chaos into an easy to pick up, but difficult to master gameplay experience. There are three explosive game modes available across 18 crash junctions in six unique locations, each requiring different skills and strategies to maximize damage and destroy everything in sight. With a variety of player vehicles to unlock, high-value targets to seek and destroy, and crazy surprise features to discover, players will be hooked on an adrenaline-fueled rampage to the top of the Crashwall.

Cubixx HD (Demo Available) — Use your laser to cut away the surfaces of a mysterious cube and free the energy within. Cutting longer lines and crossing multiple cube surfaces gives you bigger combos, but at far greater risk. Can you brave this hazardous environment and complete all 20 levels? Old-school, high score-chasing gameplay with a modern twist. Do you have what it takes to top the high score table and become number one?

Altered Beast — Destroy all enemies to rescue the fair maiden. Your powers increase when you destroy certain enemies and take their energy; once you achieve a certain energy level, you can alter your shape into that of a beast!

Bolt — In Disney’s Bolt, players take on the heroic personas of the TV star dog, Bolt, and his owner, Penny, from the high-action television series featured within the film. As Bolt, players can use his superpowers, including laser vision and his superbark, which sends out a sonic blast to devastate opponents, and as Penny, players utilize stealth, hacking skills and a wheelbar, inspired by her scooter seen in the movie, to outwit enemies.

minis

  • Edge — Develop your telekinetic strength by pushing a Cube within a geometric universe. Platforms, enigmas and reflexes combine to make Edge a rich and very comprehensive game.

PSone Classic

Chrono Trigger — Living in the seemingly peaceful kingdom of Guardia in 1000 A.D., the child Crono was chosen by guardian spirits to save the world from ultimate devastation. Though Doomsday will not happen until the year 1999, the ancient seeds of destruction were planted long ago the the evil LAVOS. Your mission in the world of Chrono Trigger is to travel back and forth through time to change the course of history, and stop LAVOS from succeeding in his dark plan. On your journey, you will battle monsters and meet many helpful people in both the past and the future. Some will become your faithful and powerful companions, while others will give you clues by telling you stories.
Final Fantasy VI — With Edgar’s tools, Terra’s magic, Sabin’s fists and the skills of a dozen additional characters, the Returners need only your help to seize victory from the Empire. Summon the power of the espers, magical creatures enslaved by the Empire.

  • @OldKai I’m sure they’re coming. They even announced in the past that Chrono Trigger would get released and FFVI has been released in Japan. We’ll see them, but probably just not for another week or so.

  • What a fcking joke. Is anything coming out this week? Oh wait…don’t say anything…it’ll just be retracted later.

  • Not impressed Sony. I got all excited for nothing.

  • I went out and got a PSN card today for Chrono Trigger and now it’s not coming? You can’t expect anyone to take The Drop seriously after a screw up like this.

  • Major Nelson did the same thing announcing Guardian heroes was to be released a week or so ago on xbox live. Only to retract it. With no further release information.

Mistakes happen; but how about 1 up’in xbox live and give a release date for the two ps1 titles in question.

  • Wow this has been a very terrible post. The update has been gutted badly.

  • Seriously what a failure this post was. How come there are SO many errors and mistakes on each “The Drop”?? They’re always wrong!!! lol dang! It really makes Sony look pretty bad to be honest.

  • OMFG dude are you serious?????????? Why in god’s name would you take back the psone titles ff6 and chrono trig???? Sony are you stupid in the head or what like seriously why. first, yyou get hacked, resistance 3 sux balls, now you’re going back on your announcement for releasing the greatest psone/snes games released!!!! Wth is wrong with you why would you hype up gamers then take it back so fckin stupid i swear

  • Wow, can this turn into any more of a fiasco?

    Seriously. This is pathetic.

  • wow good one Sony…..

  • Oh, come on. At least release something related to the PSone. Even an import classic will do.

  • So today I went out and bought myself 2 PSN cards 1 for Crono Trigger and Final Fantasy VI and 1 for Resident Evil 4. Thanks for making me spend $20.00 that I didn’t need to at the moment. I would have just bought them with my credit card but I’m afraid it may get stolen.

  • And rey :)…. Suck it

  • Well, in any case, like DJNorthSky mentioned in the 5th page, Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy VI being announced separately (Chronicles – Anthology) like that was kind of weird. Not that I’d doubt it would happen, since ripping off customers is a trend in this generation and there are enough fans that would buy them at 5,99 each.

  • @Rey
Since Chrono Trigger isn’t available, how about asking the guys up there about Chrono Cross? Also, if Final Fantasy VI isn’t up yet, how about Final Fantasy V? It surely must be available. The EU PS Store got it and the ESRB rating is quite old.

  • So many errors.

  • Part 2

Sony I was really excited for the ps vita but I have lost all faith in you. I have been and will contune to be in till these 4 issues are fix or at least explained

1.Stop acting like all psp owners own a ps3 I don’t and alot of others don’t as well.
2.Making all my Cash invested in your UMD format (Noted that it was annoced at TGS that there working on someway to download the games you have Physical copies of to your ps vita) a waste.
3.Sprasic Release dates Eroupe has had FF VI for months now( I am aware that its a PAL region but japan isn’t so theres no reason to delay it for so long.
4.Just becuase you can make propratary Memory sticks doesn’t mean you can over charge for them.

Side note:Stop treating your loyal costmers like crap after all you have put us though this year its the least you could do(at least give none cookie cutter awsers to complants)

  • EPIC fail..fire that guy W..TF how many f ups can you do on a psn drop so not cool..*FAIL*

  • HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA

  • I’m pretty disappointed with this now.

  • You guys take yourselves far too seriously to demand somebody be fired over such small mistakes, especially since everybody makes mistakes. I’d hope that you aren’t given such lenience in your own lives at work or school if you can’t take a step back and think about how ridiculously petty those demands are.

  • Formula 1 2011 comes out tomorrow, I can’t believe you left that out!!!

  • this sucks, ive been waiting for ever to get CT and FFVI!!, i really didnt wanna go buy the Wii just so i can play these games…..

  • WOW! 2nd biggest mistake in video game history right here! LOL. Troll peeps with 2 of the best jRPGs known to man! Dang… what an ugly mistake. (Have I rubbed it in enough?) Anyways, the 1st biggest mistake in video game history if you are wondering is Final Fantasy VII Tech Demo…

  • “UPDATE: This post incorrectly identified the release of two PSone Classics, Final Fantasy VI and Chrono Trigger. These titles will not be releasing on PSN at this time. We sincerely regret the error.”

No mention of Castlevaina, Incorrect CoE info, No Chrono Trigger or FFVI… Can we please get a structured, clear and concise release list? Possibly a bit in advance so we can plan our purchases? And could it please be staffed by someone who knows what they are doing? Is that too much to ask for the millions of dollars we hand you weekly?

  • I’ve just checked with my UK account and they have final fantasy 1,2,5,6,7,8 and 9 + driver I want to buy them from my north america account I’m pretty sure it’s not that hard to take it from them and share it here I don’t want to get into the trouble of getting a £ psn card just to had it to my ps3… I did that and I lost everything when the server went down because I never used my email and hotmail erased it so I couldn’t reactivate my UK and hong kong account

  • This blog post had lots of errors and mistakes. why? i thought such posts take a few days to be ready to get posted but looks like it was not. lots of errors

  • Well sony all I can say is that you have pissed me off for the last time enough of your lies now that you said something about Final Fantasy VI and Chrono Trigger coming to PSN it better happen I was so exiteded for it to find out that once again you lied!!

  • I was looking forward to final fantasy 6 and chrono trigger how bout letting us know if they will be coming any time soon

  • Dropped the ball big time by retracting the two best releases you had in this weeks drop. Fail.

  • Hey will saints row 2 have trophies or will it be like assassins creed 1

  • Are they at LEAST coming next week instead? I was really excited about that…..

  • Seriously disappointed yet again for this week. A digital copy of FFVI and Chrono Trigger would be exactly what i need to get back to using my ps3 for games instead of netflix and blu-rays/dvds till Skyrim comes out.

  • Welp, I had read some weeks ago that the RE4 re-release on PSN would have move support, but since it doesn’t that’s a deal breaker for me. I was going to get it, but now I’ll just be skipping it, I loved it on the Wii with motion controls, there is absolutely no excuse to not have move support. On the bright side, it saves me the money I would’ve spent on it.

  • Seriously, lay off the drugs, dude. Wtf is wrong with you? Aren’t you a professional at this? I wasn’t going to buy those ps1 classics but a lot of people were planning to. And now they hate you. Maybe it’s time for someone else to take your job.

  • Wow, can you people shut up already? Blah blah blah, error this, no RE4 platinum that. It’s page after page of the same whiny crap. Give them a break, it’s reason like this why all you ungrateful people shouldn’t get anything and probably WHY Sony gets the shaft when it comes to releases.

On topic, great drop. RE4 getting a re-release with trophies and updated visuals is one of the best things that has happened in the HD remake department. Who cares if it has a platinum? People owe it to themselves to play this game and for the people who’ve played it before, don’t buy it if a worthless platinum trophy means THAT much to you where it’s a deal-breaker.

And as far as the PS1 classics go…good riddance. The PS1 ports of FF6/CT were awful, plagued with loading times, slowdown, and terrible sound/music emulation.

  • Wow, still no Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy VI. Makes me glad I ripped my own copies off my Anthology and Chronicles sets to play on my PSP long time ago. Thank you North American PSN. You have done another fine job of dissapointing me yet again. Keep up the good work. -_-

  • ^ So you like playing trash ports? I feel sorry for you.

  • I need not your sympathy. I make do with what I have.

  • what crap, cant you guys get anything right? just about sick of waiting for the SE classics, and bow sony cant even supply the correct facts

  • I wish people at Sony could see things from a true gamers perspecitve and not a coperate one. You go and make a post, jack up the hope of millions by announcing possibly 2 of the greatest games ever made to be finally brought to the PS3 (offically) only to say “oops”? I laugh when I see those Kevin Butler commercials… imagine if he was a real gamer and not just one on TV. What would he do if this happened to him?

Take it one step further… imagine if this had been an “error” about PS Vita coming out? “We regert to inform you that Vita has been pushed back or possibily canceled. But we thank you all for pre ordering it and the games coming out for it but will gladly refund your money only after we have made up our minds wether or not the system is coming out.

  • Will everybody stop complaining, he made a mistake move on, its not like we dont make mistakes i am thrilled with re4 hd this is a true classic resident evil 5 was a joke, re4 is not true survival horror but it is one intense game. sony many people are mad at you but many resident evil fans are extremely happy with you guys, do not listen to negative people keep on doing what your doing a good job

  • @339

Did Sony make a “mistake” by not protecting its vital information areas in regards to the “hack job?” That effected everyone here so its ok to get pissed off. But since FF6/CT doesnt bother you you in ways to comment about it like I and others have, then we must “stop complaing and move on”? Flip the coin now… What if it were RE that recalled and not FF6/CT? You would have the same complaints as you do now and no doubt yours would be in there as well to a degree. In fact, there would be even more I think. There is no excuse for this in this day and age. If its not Sonys fault, they should come out and say its SEs or whoevers fault. Dont leave us in the dark with a generic response such as the one stated.

  • NO Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy VI, How on F#$%@# heart can you wrongfully announce those two games seriously HOW ?

It is not like they are obscure games, I’m pretty sure they would have been you’re record breaker top sellers. this is mind boggling. I sincerely hope that the one responsible for this F-up losses his job… unacceptable !

  • When is the official iPhone/Android app you guys have in Europe going to drop in North America?

  • well – as of 9:01 EST the first 3 Resident Evils are NOT free for + users – i found all 3 in the search and it is asking me to PURCHASE them WTF!

  • my friend downloaded re4 hd at 9:00 am est on the 360 why am i still waiting for sony to make re4 available wow epic fail

  • does anyone know at what time sony lets updates be available, sony your behind the eight ball

  • @340 look if they said that re4 would not be available i would not have a titty attack there are other games and i would wait no other choice

  • awww I was so EXCITED! FFVI finally, I don’t want to emulate it on my PC, want it on my PSP! The 2 best RPG’s ever released just to have it taken away! Do we know when they are coming out?
