The day we’ve all been waiting for has finally arrived! The much anticipated remastered versions of ICO and Shadow of the Colossus are available today on a single Blu-ray disc. I have always been a big fan of Ueda-san and his work, and I was excited when I first heard about the project. It has been an honor to work on this collection, and I am just as excited as you all to play these new versions at home.

If you’ve already played these games on PS2, now you can experience them all over again like you’ve never seen or heard them before. And if you haven’t had a chance to play these classics just yet, now’s the perfect time to experience the beautiful stories and art design of Ueda-san and his extremely talented team.

The game has been brought to new life with these enhancements and exclusive content:

  • 12-minute behind-the-scenes video about the making of ICO, Shadow of the Colossus, and The Last Guardian
  • 20+ minute round table discussion between Ueda-san (Lead Designer, Director), Kaido-san (Line Producer) and Hosono-san (Designer).

The disc comes with all of this for just $39.99. As if you needed any more reasons to pick up this collection, it currently has an average review score of 91, out of 35 reviews. Game Informer gave it a 9.75, saying “Playing through them again in this unbeatable package only serves as a reminder that no other developer can imitate Team Ico’s singular style.”

In celebration of the launch of ICO & Shadow of the Colossus Collection, Ueda-san has kindly sent us his comments:

We’ve finally made it to the release date of ICO and Shadow of the Colossus Collection. I would really like to especially thank the gamers, fans, and the media within North America, as the title has received such an incredible amount of support and praise from this region. I sincerely hope you will all enjoy the re-mastered collection.

I would also like to express my gratitude to the staff at Bluepoint Games and SCEA in the development and production of these titles. We were extremely lucky to be working with such talented staff. Their efforts helped the Collection exceed our highest quality expectations, as well as get though its development cycle without any major issues. I sincerely appreciate the great work done by everyone involved.

I love this game so much. I do have a rant though. The Canada version does NOT get a reversible cover art that the US version has. Seriously, what in the world? This may seem small, but us up North feel cheapened out.

Aaaand purchased.

My only regret is that Sony’s 24″ 3DTV isn’t out for a couple more months, so I’m stuck having to play this in traditional 2D.

Also am slightly disappointed of no reversible cover for us Canucks, but it’s a minor point to me since I only ever see the spines of my game cases with the way I place them on my bookshelf.

I already have the PS2-games but I demand this game to be released on PSN! I’ve purchased all other PS2/PSP-HD-upgrades on PSN, I will do the same with this collection.

Btw, I’ve beaten Shadow of the Colossus sixteen times. My 2nd favorite game of all time.

Unfortunately no reversible box art for my Canadian version aswell : <

Suppose I'll have to print it out which isn't to bad considering that they uploaded a full sized image here

Awesome stuff, looking forward to giving them another go.

Small gripe though…why didn’t you guys say Canada wasn’t getting the reversible cover?
I’m slightly miffed about a classic game, which is wrong as it’s two great games.

Please think of something other then letting us “print” them ourselves. Its not the same…

Mmmhmm I’m probably going to have to go to some specialty print shop and get it printed out for like 50 bucks or something ridiculous like that. : |

Wow, that’s truly a shame. I’ll monitor this situation for an update. In the meantime, I’ll be picking up ICO/SOTC (a given) and GOW Origins (I was going to get it later, but I’ll move it up a bit.)

Best Buy is doing the same as well for this game too!

So worth it at full price, even more divine at $30.

Just ripped my copy open that time to reverse the cover art, and . . . completely blank. Not gonna affect my love for these games, but I’m pretty disappointed that this feature wasn’t there as advertised. I’m assuming it’s because I’m Canadian and they had to print different versions to add in the French, but I don’t see that as very good excuse, and it would have been nice to know about this beforehand. Sorry if this seems a petty complaint, but I’m a lover of good cover art and I was kinda excited that this would be available. Gonna pop the disc in now and try to forget about it.

Thanks :D

Surround sound is cool, but were the audio assets re-encoded from the original lossless sources?

The audio in the Sly Cooper and Prince of Persia HD Collections were probably the worst, most dated part. They sounded like 16khz audio most of the time, and the primitive echo effects made on top of that just made the problem worse.

Really looking forward to playing this Collection, which looks better than all of the previous ones combined. Just goes to show that it’s worth doing some model, lighting and texture tweaks. They make a huge difference!

My copy arrived from Amazon today, now it’s just the long wait until I get home from work and can play it!

I’ve beaten both games more times than I can count, but I can’t wait to play it in HD with a smooth framerate. Playing Ico on my HDTV through my PS3 was visually horrible, because the game just wasn’t made for widescreen. It was like playing a pixelated PS1 classic.

This is going to be a great experience, getting to relive these amazing games in HD. The temptation to break down and buy a 3DTV is growing. When is that PlayStation 3DTV package hitting again?
