PlayStation Home Update 1.55 Coming Thursday

home

This Thursday, September 29th, we will release the latest update to the PlayStation Home client. PlayStation Home version 1.55 delivers a brand new start-up experience, updates to the Wardrobe and Furniture browser, and general enhancements that will result in improved stability and smoother operation. Here’s a look at what’s coming as part of PlayStation Home 1.55:

How to Apply the 1.55 Patch

If you are upgrading from an old version of Home (1.40 or earlier) then when you attempt to apply the 1.55 patch please wait for the orange “hard drive activity” light to stop flashing on your PS3 before commencing the patching process.

NEW FEATURES

Start-Up

  • Improved the layout, design, color scheme and text of the start-up flow.
  • The start-up flow will now display a variety of information depending on how recently you last visited PlayStation Home.

Wardrobe and Furniture Browser

  • When you are browsing through a category of items in the wardrobe or furniture browser we now display the name of the object you have highlighted.
  • There is an option in the Menu Pad under “Options > Settings > Personal > Clothing / Furniture Names” to change this behavior:
    • Off: Switches the display of names off.
    • Selected: Displays the name of the selected object only (default).
    • All: Displays names for all objects.
  • You can click [L3] to display more information about the highlighted object. This will pop up a menu showing:
    • Name.
    • Description.
    • Image.
    • Whether it is a purchase, reward or part of the default inventory.
    • Date of acquisition (if relevant).
  • In addition to the name changes the overall speed of the wardrobe and furniture browser has been significantly increased.

General

  • Added an option to manually clear the cache of data that Home creates on your HDD. This can sometimes resolve problems that you might be having. You can find it in the Menu Pad under “Options > Settings > Personal > Clear Cache”.

IMPROVEMENTS

Menu Pad

  • There is an option to view “Help” from the carousel on the Menu Pad. This is only available to new users.
  • There is an option to “Redecorate” on the carousel on the Menu Pad. This is only available when you are in your Personal Space or a Clubhouse that you own (i.e. somewhere that you can place furniture).

Loading Screen Tips

  • Different loading screen tips are now shown depending on how many times you have visited PlayStation Home.

General

  • Continued work to improve stability.

  • Definitely going to check this out!

  • WOW It’s funny but I was expecting this to happen in late Oct or Nov or something crazy like that, but this is AWESOME!!! I hope and pray this update will enable me to stay logged on longer than the usual 10 mins that I usually get before I get booted off…. Been having a lot of problems with that for almost a year now…

This may warrant me spending more money and time in Home now :) Thanks guys!

    • Unfortunately, the wrong image was posted, which is clearly causing some confusion. The update coming to Home this Thursday is a much smaller update than the one we announced a few weeks back.

The Hub, Districts (Action, Adventure, Sportswalk, Pier Park) as well as the games included within and the Questing/Events system will be released at a later time. Expect this content in the Fall.

More news including release date will be posted on this blog shortly. We apologize for any confusion this has caused and thank you, as always, for your support.

  • Lets see what this does :)

  • Wow Great Update

  • great !!!!! is it safe to say the video you guys posted in youtube hinting at a lot of playstation characters isnt about playstation home ? hopefully is something else , i cant wait to find out on october 5th

  • Sweet! Now I can waste my real life away while being in a virtual world!!! Maybe I can find a women in Home!!!

  • VERY INTERESTING..NOW ALL WE NEED IS THE OPTION TO PLAY VIDEO AND MUSIC OFF OUR HDD ON OUR TVS AND RADIOS!! THIS IS ALL WE NEED!!!! PLEASE MAKE. IT. HAPPEN!!!! ALSO…I KNOW IT MIGHT NOT SUIT EVERYONE BUT I WOULD LIKE FOR MY PS3 TO AUTO START ON HOME..SINCE I CANT REALLY SEE MY AVATAR OFF MY XMB SCREEN. THIS IS SOMETHING THAT SHOULDN’T BIN IMPLEMENTED IN HOME SINCE DAY ONE!..BUT THAT’S JUST MY OPINION..:) HOPEFULLY THE OPTION IS ALSO AVAILABLE IN THE NEW HOME UPDATE..I GUESS I SHALL WAIT AND SEE TOMORROW :P – SORRY FOR THE CAPS BUT I JUST GOT TOO LAZY TO SWITCH IT OFF AFTER MY SECOND SENTENCE..:P

  • Hopefully the update goes well. Can’t wait to update to the new version! Its gonna be big!

  • Awesome! Can’t wait! Has your team thought to put 3D integration in Home? That would be a nice feature for people who have 3DTVs.

  • So that teaser trailer that came out the other day has nothing to do with home!?
Wow i am completely puzzled now.
But back onto topic, i’ll definitely check this out tomorrow.

  • Definitely going to check this out.

  • This looks promising!!!!

  • Sounds awesome, Can’t wait to update :D

  • Amazing! I’ll definitely check it out.

  • OMG! DIES X.X

  • @10. I’m with you on this one. I could have sworn the teaser was for PSHome. Now i’m REALLY puzzled as to what the trailer was for.

  • So is The Hub and all the new spaces added tomorrow then

    • The Hub and the new Districts (Action, Adventure, Sportswalk, Pier Park) as well as the games associated with these districts and the new Quest/Events system will be released later this Fall. Please see my reply to comment #2 for more info.

      Apologies for the confusion.

  • Well, this means the teaser about October 5th is related to something else.
An upgraded PSN? A revamped XMB?

  • Any info on the Granzella Personal Space Locust?

    • No updates on the Granzella personal space right now, but we will be sure to post any updates on the blog for you all.

  • Wow, recording to HDD with the Loot active camera and uploading to YouTube sounds AMAZING!!! It sounds like this is a free update to the same active camera already in Loot stores, is that correct?

I’m also really excited about the faster wardrobe loading and poker coming tomorrow!

    • Poker is coming at a later date as part of the Sportswalk district. Also coming: Action District, Adventure District, Pier Park, and the Hub + games (such as Home Hold’ Em, Bootleggers ’29, and Cogs) and new Quest/Events system. This content will arrive later this Fall. This Thursday’s update brings a new Start-Up experience, Wardrobe and Furniture enhancements, and general improvements to the way Home operates.

I realize this all very confusing and sincerely apologize for any miscommunication. More news regarding the HUGE Home update scheduled for Fall 2011 will be posted on the Blog in the near future.

  • It’s about damm time thank you LOOT

  • Early blog and great update. So the hub isn’t launching yet right? Looks good.

  • Excited!
BF3 && now this?? Thursday will be a good day <333

  • Are we getting new dances moves and music this fall?

  • wooohooo!! awesome!

  • Tomorrow??? I’ll be there!

  • The main reason I never go HOME is the God awful constant loading for every space you want to visit. Improve that and I’ll be coming HOME more often.

  • What teaser trailer? What are you guys talking about? Can someone post a link?

  • IS this in any way related to the teaser Kevin Butler gave out on twitter ?

  • *Goes broke*

  • I’ve been noticing the ‘Please Wait’ notification in the wardrobe frequently in the past month. Hopefully this patch resolves that.

I definitely can’t wait to see the Central Plaza gone and the Hub in- it’s time to move on from it; I’ve been here since November ’08, and it was definitely time to change things up.

  • Any New Space ComingThis Week

  • PSH… Airsoft… Costumes? HA Home is still barely more than a glorified chat room. Let me know when you actually add airsoft and a useful bowling alley update. Then I’ll play.

  • hi there!

When will this be available in Mexico?

  • Will the youtube upload feature work with a sub account?

Is there any way to allow a master account to toggle features like facebook and twitter for sub accounts?

  • i’d really hope changes include being able to re-download a space.

i have had to re-install Home completely over FIFTEEN times in the last two weeks as occasionally a space is corrupted when it downloads, and unless i’m missing something, one can’t remove a space once it’s been downloaded. it’s kept me from enjoying some of the new spaces.

excited to hear about the wardrobe speed improvements. loading characters is quite awful.

  • Will Home ever be updated to add in the option of stereoscopic 3D? Some users right now can upscale Home to be 3D but those of us without a 3DTV that upscales can’t use Home in 3D. I’ve always wanted to see what Home would be like in 3D and feel that it could increase the immersion factor for 3DTV owners.

  • Love the update. Can’t wait for later this Fall for the new Hubs, Poker and more. I would hope that future core updates would give us additional animations and I would hope to still see a lot better Wardrobe Management. Personal management and additional storage would be a dream.

Please make that Dream Come True! :)

  • Also, how much will the new Active Camera cost? I’ve been wanting something like that for some time so it’s good to see Loot provide it. Hopefully the cost isn’t too much.

Yeah, I realized the mistake after I posted that, but you didn’t respond to the actual question in my post. :/ Is this a free update to the same Loot camera already in stores for $2.99?

  • I certainly hope this update lives up to the hype. The horrendous amounts of lag needs to be fixed pronto as do numerous other bugs on home. Improved rendering of clothes & hair would be a bonus too, so they don’t keep glitching through each other quite so much (a good idea but probably a lost cause at this late date). Would be good also to start listening to what home users are actually asking for.

  • I generally only load Home about twice a year as a novelty. Can someone tell me what the coolest thing I can do in Home right now is?

  • New Music ! :P Niceeee and and Im go broke like Narde15 said there go my $$$. Home take my money and dont ask lol just do it xDD

  • So that commercial featuring many different games wasn’t about Home?

  • This a lot of stuff to look forward too. :)

Re the video I am assuming that we don’t need a video capture card with the new camera.
I also assume there will be no sound although that would be nice. Perhaps in the future.

The other parts we shall see what we shall see.

I’m looking forward to these changes.

  • WOW!!! O_O The Loot Active Camera got SUPER UPDATED!!! This is awesome!!! That’s the 1st thing I’m going to check out tomorrow!!! I just can’t wait!!!! Woot!!!!

  • Nice Thanks. I can’t wait till Oct 5 to see what Kevin Butler will do.

  • I am going to guess that later this Fall equals more like Dec Anniversary of the launching of the Open Beta in 2008. Since Sony likes Anniversary dates to do things with its hardware like PSP and PS3. And since the Open Beta launched in the “LATE FALL” of 2008 I have the same feeling about that date also.

  • i guess no HUGE update until late fall, well, every little update helps so im all for it , any news on the Recycling Bin or the Gift Machine ? a Gift Machine sort of like the Lockwood Machine that would allow us TRADE, EXCHANGE, GIVE AWAY clothes , furniture , etc to Newcomers . I mean this would be an excellent gesture on the part of Home creators, for all of us to be able to help out a new Home user, wont make you look GREEDY either .
How about when the creators of new personal spaces “create ” a personal space that have a beach on it, make it, so that we are able to go all the way in the water and not UNKLE High, whats the point of having a beach that you can not go in it ?
Im with nYcFrEeWiLL82 i want ot be able to play MY music and my movies on the TVs we have in our personal spaces, at least give us youtube, geeez
Come Fall i would like to see the 50 ITEMS per Personal Space go up, and the 2 ACTIVE items go up as well , i know its close to Impossible , but try .

  • Hi Locust_Star,

I just noticed your reply to comment #24 and my dog ears perked up! I have a few questions about it:

-How many tracks should we expect and what genres of music will be covered?

-Is it going to be music by actual bands/artists… Or is it somewhere along the lines of The Playground music where they are different versions based on real songs?

-Will all the new music be added to Listen@Home, or can we listen to it anywhere else like in the Mall, Theater, SingStar public space, on personal space radios, or Loot big screens?
