Introducing ‘Only On PSN’ For New Exclusive Games Throughout October

We’re excited to announce a new program called “Only On PSN,” which features brand new games that are exclusively available on PlayStation Network throughout October. Every week starting tomorrow, October 4, you will find new titles, unique to PSN that are part of this program – games that you’ve likely read about here on the PlayStation Blog, or seen during our showing at E3 2011. You may recall our announcement a few months ago about our Pub Fund – a $20 million investment in exclusive PSN titles, and the Only On PlayStation Network program showcases two titles spawning from this investment: Eufloria and Okabu.

We can’t wait for you to get your hands on the Only On PSN games yourselves, so we’re giving you a few special offers throughout the course of the program. First, to sweeten the deal, we’ll be offering PlayStation Plus subscribers a 20% discount on each game during the first week of its availability.

Additionally, users who spend $60 or more out of their PlayStation Network/Sony Entertainment Network wallet through the month of October will get $10 back in November. This includes any of the Only On PSN games, purchases of games, add-ons, movies and TV shows in both the game and video sections of the PlayStation Store, your paid subscriptions for PlayStation Plus or Music Unlimited, movie rentals or purchases through Video Unlimited and any games or virtual items you buy in PlayStation Home.

Be sure to keep an eye on the PlayStation Twitter feed, as we’ll be giving away download codes for each game in the line-up every week. Don’t miss your chance to get this week’s Only On PSN games for free!

  • So basically, these ps2 games are going to play in HD and, presumably, be proper ports? Since there is no software emulator, i’m kinda scared that there’s going to be slowdown.

  • One question guess this PS2 titles are kind of PS2 classics section as PsOne Classics are right? well in that case it mean the backward compatibility is back to PS3 becuase it was taken out when the guys of SONY said it was expensive to do it and people would not buy a PS3 to play PS2 titles, so how it is suposssed we play that titles in a PS3 that doesn’t have backwards ??? and if we play them why we can’t play games of PS2 on disc? you get the point here ??? what the hell ??

  • I’d like to see the first three SSX titles on PSN, considering that the reboot will come out next year

  • But…Eufloria’s on PC.

Anyway, nice Sodium bundle, though it’d’ve been nice to have the bartender uniforms and stomp boots worked in, too (part of another pack that includes the Sodium One racer jackets, which unlock the game). May be picking it up, though.

And– Wait, WHAT? PS2 games? On mah PSN? Without “HD” tacked on to the end?!

, Sony! Of those, I recognize and can get giddy about God Hand, GrimGrimoire, and Odin Sphere. Y;know, games my friends have been blowing through as a matter of course since whenever. I’m slow… Slow, but enthusiastic!

Now, if we could just do more for PSP support…

  • PlayStation 2 games?! What!? No way!! I REALLY hope to see some great PS2 games soon, like:

    – Mortal Kombat games

    – Need For Speed games

    – Grand Theft Auto games

    – Midnight Club Games

    – Syphon Filter games

    – Grand Turismo games

    ….and more!!

  • Oh, and Resident evil games, like RE: Dead Aim and the Outbreak series, please!

  • Oh, right, it’s been so long I’ve forgotten: REINSTATE PS2 BACKWARDS COMPATIBILITY!!

  • PS2 backwards compatibility should be on every PS3. But as long as their are decent PS2 games on PSN I may have to buy a few

  • Especially Kingdom of Hearts

  • Original Playstation 2 version of Final Fantasy X anyone? Of course, I am aware that “REMAKE” (Isn’t it supposed to be considered AS “REMASTERED”?) Final Fantasy X will head in our way in 2012… But come on! – Give us original version of Final Fantasy X part of “On Only PSN” Program!!! :-D

  • God Hand and Odin Sphere. ARE YOU SERIOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This is awesome, I still remember when the PS3 launch and the PS Store was next to nothing, but now look at it!

  • There are cheaper ways to play PS2 games… try again Sony, you’re ALMOST original… almost.

  • so wait what about ps vita can i play it on there

  • Since these PS2 releases are being just emulated, does that mean that those games can also be played with the PS2 disc? or is sony being extremely greedy and spitting their loyal consumers in the face by not enabling that option?

  • this is my second time being screwed of out deals cause i was a 1 week early adopter to rochard. i think its wrong that sony wont include it into this month and dont give me that crap that it shouldn’t be. especially since they now just talked about this deal today. when the game came out last freaking week.

    • If you purchase content in October that would have been a total of $60 and it included your purchase of Rochard in September, we’ll take care of you. You’ll need to contact Customer Service once you’ve made the appropriate purchases. Contact me on the PS Forums if you have questions on this (user ID: mochuuu)

  • Those are some awesome PS2/PSX adds to the store!

… Can we just see the slightest hint at .(dot) Hack being on the store in the near or distant future? Please? :D Even if it’s on the table for discussion.

  • My playstation 2 broke before I could finish Odin Sphere. If its $10 i will have to buy it. Awesome and very original game. Kinda sucks to have to buy it when i have the PS2 disc though. Rochard, pixeljunk sidescroller and chrono trigger are all must buys too. Maybe Sideways. Hopefully you guys release FF6 and Chrono cross this month so I can spend the $60. It was a slow summer, but you guys are making up for it! I had to upgrade my hard drive last week.

  • so will there be more ps2 games in the future. also what if the game is being remade into hd does that mean it will not go on the store or that the hd remake will go up on the store like the final fantasies they rumored to be remaking for ps3

  • Some questions:

    1. The PS2 games, like Ring of Red and Odin Sphere, will they use the virtual PS2 memory cards, or the PS3 regular save system?

    2. Is there any news about what future PS2 games might be released?

    3. Does this mean PS2 backwards compatibility might be coming to PS3 slim consoles?

  • any idea if Transworld surf will make it to PSN? no other surf games available!

  • So is this program just for October. Not so clear about that in the original post.
And if we’re gonna start with PS2 games Okami has to be one of them.

  • Are the new PS2 games being offered for a limited time? I need a new roof so I’ll need time to get some money! :D

    • Our goal is to provide a steady flow of PS2 titles to the Store going forward. The only thing limited to this month is the Buy $60 get $10 back promotion.

  • These ps2 games will they just be for oct or will they keep adding them from here on out. Also got a price point?

  • So any PS3 model will be able to play these PS2 classics? Will we be able to use our old PS2 saves if we have the memory card adapter?

  • @163 – i dont know about that man, 9.99 for PS2 games is pretty incredible – at a pawn shop, you can maybe find them for the same price, at best 6-7.99 – used or new at gamestop/EB i challenge you to find the likes of Godhand less than 10 bucks. 10 dollars is a FANTASTIC price for PS2 games.

Remember when Microsoft started their Xbox Original programs and they tried to pass off these really bad games for 15 dollars? They only released less than 20 to download and maybe a handful, such as the original Halo, was worth 15 dollars. But you could make the arguement that most if not all could be found for less such as 10 dollars.

Thank you very much for the 10 dollar price point for these PS2 games Sony, you made an excellent choice

  • @175 – yeah, if you have old PS2 saves on a memory card you can use them. Just need a PS2 to PS3 memory card adaptor, they’re rare these days but i found one on Ebay for like 4 dollars once. Create a memory card on your PS3 and transfer them there – just like you would with a PS1 game

  • Does this mean that that the ps2 games that are coming out this month are only available for this month or will thay (sorry if I spelled that wrong) keep all ps2 classics like PSone classics?

  • Hey Sony, when Chile is goin to have a proper store? I have to use a USA account to buy things.

  • @178 – no you keep them forever – and apparently more are coming down the tube too, quoting article from Destructoid:

    – I asked Susan Panico, senior director of PlayStation Network, if we could expect more releases of these classics after this promotion period. She confirmed that more are coming, adding that they are wanting to focus on releasing critically acclaimed titles that were exclusive to PlayStation. –

  • I have a question irrelevant to the subject, but since this is a the PSN+ Section, I was waiting to see what’s store for us PSN+ users (Free games, Add-Ons and such) so what I am wondering is when will be notified of that?

But don’t get me wrong, this is great news as well.

  • ok i kinda get the idea, one question- Since I have plus, say I buy a game for 8$ using the 20% discount. Does it count as I spend 10 dollars or is it still 8 ??
    Thanks

  • Can you people at Sony please answer? If I renew my Playstation Plus subscribtion does it count towards getting that extra $10? Also, how do the codes on the Twitter Feed work? Can you keep adding PS2 games like Grand Theft Auto, because I will buy all of them?

    • Anything that uses the Store Wallet goes to the $60 threshold, including PS Plus subs. If you have a voucher code, go to the Store and select the Redeem Codes option in the upper right to get the content.

  • They’re only adding games that were exclusive to PS2, so forget about multi-platform games like GTA.

  • @DJ-307 – they have already answered that question, they said anything you buy in October – including a PS+ subscription, counts

  • Soooo… basically Sony has tipped their hand and is admitting that they have a working PS2 emulator for non-BC PS3’s?? These aren’t remastered versions folks, this is the original game code running in an emulator.

But instead of just releasing said emulator for free (or hell, even for $20) they are going to nickle and dime us by releasing a handful of PS2 ‘classics’ on PSN for a fee.

    Nice….

  • How do i confirm if i’m getting th $10 in November? will there be anykind of confirmation like message, email??
because i bought RE4 and PS+ 3 months subscription and willing to continue but let me know of the confirmation method (if there is any).

    • By 11/15, you’ll have received an email and an XMB message with your $10 voucher should you have spent $60 through Oct.

  • Hope I get one of those codes, I’m dirt poor at the moment.

  • Tons of new PS3/PSN exclusives? PS Plus discounts? PS2 Classics?!?!

Hell yes. The fact that I’m currently buried in Uncharted 3 Multiplayer makes me scared for this month. I would love to play Odin Sphere, Okabu, and inFAMOUS: Festival of Blood. I know I’ll buy them, don’t know if I’ll have the time to play them X-D

Seriously though: Sony. Thank you SO much for bringing us PS2 Classics. If these titles are an experiment to see how the community receives them, I PRAY that PS3 gamers like me give these games what they’re worth so we can see more PS2 Classics in the future. We don’t NEED HD remakes and the like – just a chance to play the PS2’s MASSIVE library of games is enough. Thank you.

  • Sony engineer: “Hey! We finally finished that software-only PS2 emulator for the Slim models!! Woo hoo! Now we can really say that ‘It Only Does Everything!” (high-fives all the other sw engineers)

Jack Tretton: “Ehhh….well, it’s like this guys. We COULD release the PS2 emulator to our fans for free and be heroes for re-enabling backwards compatibility…..OR….we could keep the emulator to ourselved and charge our customers $10 a game to re-buy the stuff they already bought once on PS2 DVD’s” (eyes turn to spinning dollar signs)

    Sony engineer:”B…but…It Only Does Everything…?”

Jack Tretton: “Yeah, but not for FREE -snort!-. Besides, we already changed our tag line to ‘Long Live Pay’ , ahem, I mean PLAY”

    Sony engineer: “I think I need a shower….”

    :-/

  • will the PS2 titles be upscaled and apply MLAA like the open source emulators do? I’ll gladly pay for value-add, but it has to meet/exceed what’s already available for free.

  • does renting movies count?

  • Okabu FTW!!! Sideway NY and infamous DLC look excellent as well. Oh well it looks
like Santa won’t be bringing presents this year since he’ll be broke.

  • @Morgan Haro & Juhana “Hulu” Virtanen… Sony should of kept playstation 2 backwards compatibility through emulation on the playstation 3 because there was no excuse to remove playstation 2 backwards compatibility through emulation on playstation 3 in the first place & then expect gamers to rebuy playstation 2 games with nothing extra to justify rebuying playstation 2 games just to be able to play them on playstation 3 that’s ripping off gamers!

P.S..That’s not right sony you should be ashamed of ripping gamers off!

    Cheers Gamers & Happy Gaming!

  • Guys, im pretty sure its a lot more than just allowing certain PS2 games to work on the PS3 now. I am quite positive they are taking the PS2 copy and then modifying it to work on the PS3 – its not just ripping it to an ISO and releasing it onto PSN. They are converting it for use on PS3, its more than just emulating it.

    • this. Also; it will be relatively in the Publisher’s court to clear content. We can’t do anything without the original publisher’s consent to release.

  • God Hand? Hell yeah!! Can you tell us the price and when will it be available on PSN?

  • Just another reason that all gamers need a PS3. Looking forward to Pixeljunk Sidescroller and maybe Crysis (Alredy have it on PC) Rochard looks pretty good too.

Look at the exclusives we already have! It’s overwhelming.
Uncharted Series, God of War Series, Resistance Series, Socom Series, Ratchet Series, InFamous Series, Sly Series, Gran Turismo Series, Killzone Series, Metal Gear Solid Series, Motorstorm Series, LittleBigPlannet Series, Yakuza Series, Heavy Rain, Demon’s Souls, MAG, ModNation Racers, Warhawk, ICO, Shadow of the Colossus, Twisted Metal

  • Will the ps2 games be upscaled or will they be a graphical mess because they have to stretch out the ps2’s native res to a 720p or 1080p TV?

  • SOCOM 2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Say it with me. SOCOM 2! S….O….C….O….M ……..2. GOD D*MNIT!

  • Omg i never had a ps2 so now i get to play them! Now we have psone ps2 and ps3 games all on one machine. Just hope the ps2 classics work on the vita too. I don’t expect the psp to be able to emulate them.
