Welcome to the inaugural edition of a new monthly post that will reveal, for the first time, the top-selling PlayStation Network games each month. We hope you find this information valuable, and that it gives you some new perspective on popular PSN games that you may have missed. If you’re looking for the most-downloaded movies and TV shows on the PlayStation Video Store, you can find that information here.
Clearly the April 2011 release of Mortal Kombat left PS3 owners wanting more, as the Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection earned the top slot in September. Newcomers Resident Evil 4 HD, From Dust, Castlevania: Harmony of Despair, Burnout Crash! and Renegade Ops also made strong showings this month. The original PSone Resident Evil games also proved quite popular — and no, this list does not include PlayStation Plus members who downloaded the games for free.

Just a few days ago we teamed with Subway to launch the full competitive multiplayer experience for Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception in the United States. We are pumped to see everyone online one month before the full game’s release on November 1st. The PlayStation.Blog spoke with Game Designer Robert Cogburn to learn more about what you should do when you first log on to the full competitive multiplayer experience.
When you first get online to play there are some very important menus in your profile to navigate. Not sure what kickback or load outs to use? How do you get more cash and rank up? Want to know Robert’s suggestion for the best guns and load outs for new players? Check out the video for answers to these questions and more valuable information:

The raunchy comedy Bad Teacher arrives in Movies this week, two weeks before it hits the DVD/Blu-Ray shelves! Watch the comedy centered around a foul-mouthed, junior high teacher (Cameron Diaz) who, after being dumped by her sugar daddy, begins to woo a colleague (Justin Timberlake) – a move that pits her against a well-loved teacher.

The 2011-12 hockey season drops the puck on the ice, and the PS3, today! That’s right, the PS3 is still the only gaming console to stream live out-of-market hockey games in HD, and this season, in addition to enhanced streaming capabilities, users in the United States and Canada can now download the new NHL GameCenter application for free.
That means users who enjoy free access to PlayStation Network and do not have a subscription to NHL GameCenter LIVE can still have access to a wide range of NHL content through the NHL GameCenter application, including features such as post-game highlights, team schedules, standings, player stats and full NHL scoreboard.
Hello! I’m here to talk a bit about our newest PSN title — Shank 2! Honestly, it’s been a fantastic journey. We bet everything on the first game, and the fans both supported us and gave us meaningful feedback on the game. The encouragement has not only allowed us to survive and thrive, but gave us a huge reason to take a look at the game and make big improvements. I’m here to talk a bit about what we’ve been working on.
Let’s start with the art. As you may know, our entire art team consists of professional animators and painters from the 2D animation industry, and again Jeff Agala directed the visuals. The goal here was to blow away our previous fidelity and set a new bar for ourselves. To do that, we doubled the resolution of all the source character art to push the graphic novel style, adding a huge amount of extra detail to the environment and even doubling the amount of animation in the game.
Another year, another reason to celebrate here in Canada, and another PlayStation Holiday Event! We had such a tremendous response last year that we couldn’t for one second forget about you. I’d like to invite each and every Canadian PlayStation fan out again this year.
Right around the corner now, our Holiday Event will be taking place on October 12 from 5 p.m. – 9 p.m. at the Liberty Grand in “The Artifacts Room” in Toronto.
This year has been a big one in terms of great titles launching, and we’ll be giving you exclusive access to play them before they hit retail shelves. No matter what gaming appetite you come with, we will try to appease you, for example:
With the clock ticking down to the release of Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One (October 18th!), I wanted to share some insight into an arcane corner of the video game industry: How the box art is made. But first, I’m happy to confirm that the final version of Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One will mark the continuation of a recent PlayStation tradition started with Insomniac’s Resistance 3 — reversible box art! The piece—illustrated by Insomniac’s Greg Baldwin, with back cover concept art from Dave Guertin–began its life as an April Fool’s Day PlayStation.Blog post from Captain Qwark. Behold the secret inner box art that we’ve been chuckling over for the last few weeks.
Now back to the making of the box art. Believe it or not, there’s a lot that goes into that rectangular piece of art that sits on store shelves (although I’m sure many colorful commentators would beg to differ). Before we kicked off packfront exploration, we collaborated with Insomniac Games to set our goals.
Its been a couple of months since we were last here talking about OKABU, our upcoming PSN-exclusive action-adventure, and we’re thrilled to be part of this month’s “Only On PSN” program, sitting alongside such awesome titles as Pixeljunk Sidescroller, Eufloria and Rochard.
So the big news is that we finally have a release date! OKABU will be hitting PSN on October 18th, and there’ll be a demo available on launch day that’ll let you take our cloud-flying heroes for a test flight. With launch only a couple of weeks away, we wanted to share a few more details about the game, and what you’ll be doing as you guide Kumulo and Nimbe through the four worlds that make up the story campaign.
