Jak and Daxter Collection for PS3

Greetings all, hopefully you’ve been getting to spend some quality time with UNCHARTED 3: Drake’s Deception these past few weeks. We are grateful for all the positive fan feedback and thank you for the support! I’m not here today to talk about U3, though. We’ve been getting many, many requests asking about Jak and Daxter coming to PS3, and I’m happy to announce that the series will make its PS3 debut this February with the launch of the Jak and Daxter Collection.

The Jak and Daxter Collection features three of our favorite Jak and Daxter titles – Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy, Jak II, and Jak 3 – all remastered by Mass Media, working closely with our team at Naughty Dog. With the launch of Jak and Daxter Collection, you’ll be able to experience the adventures of Jak and his Daxter in 720p high definition with crisper visuals, smoother gameplay animation, and in full stereoscopic 3D. And, I’m sure all of you hardcore collectors will be happy to hear that each game in the trilogy features full PS3 trophy support.

The Jak and Daxter franchise set a benchmark for the platformer genre with its huge environments and gaming freedom. In fact, it holds seven world records in the Guinness World Records: Gamer’s Edition 2008 including the First Seamless 3D World in a Console Game. As you can imagine, there’s a lot of love for the franchise here at Naughty Dog, and it has a very special place in our hearts. If you can believe it, the Jak and Daxter franchise will be celebrating its 10th anniversary this year on December 4th and we’ll be checking in with you via the PlayStation.Blog to help us celebrate. In the meantime, let me know your favorite Jak and Daxter memories in the comments and be sure to stay tuned to the blog to for the latest Jak and Daxter Collection news.

  • Yes, amazing games. I still have all the jak and daxter games on my ps2 and loved them.

  • Yes this is great I been waiting for this series to come to the PS3 and now its finally coming I’m making sure I pick this game up day 1 :)

  • finally day one purchase for me.great games.

  • Yes! I’m so excited! I have all 3 on the PS2, and can’t wait to get them in HD and 3D on the PS3. Awesome news, I’ll be getting it day 1.

Will there be any bonus material? I remember having a demo disc for the original Jak & Daxter years ago right before the game came out that had some cool making of videos with them talking about the game (including how big to make Jak’s hand whenever he punches), and I’d really love to see stuff like that again. What are the chances?

Also, yeah for demo disks back in the day. They sold me on so many games that I might have otherwise glazed on by. When that demo disk for Jak & Daxter came in the mail, I threw it in, and immediately went out and per-ordered it. I played that demo to death before I got the full game, and it’s probably the only game I have fully completed. (All 101 power cells!)

Also, are we going to at some point get Jak X and the two PSP Jak games in another collection? I have yet to play the other Jak game (that also hit PS2), so it’d be cool to catch up on it someday.

    • All 101 power cells! That’s awesome. Great feat. As for bonus materials, nothing in terms of the videos you mentioned but there will be Stereoscopic 3D support and full Trophy support for all three titles in addition to the titles running at 720p native now!

  • Jack & daxter in HD and best of all with trophies? yes please!! i’ll definitely pick this up

  • oh and Evan congrats to you and everybody @Naughtydog for U3! one of the best games i have ever played

  • NAUGHTY DOG FTW!

  • 720p for PS2 games? Really?

  • loved them on PS2 cant wait till February

  • YESS!!! So excited for this! These were some of my favorite games on the PS2.

Oh and Evan, I couldn’t help but notice that you called this a DEBUT. Hopefully that’s a sign for more Jak & Daxter to come ;)

  • Any chance of this being a download that can be played on Vita? I’d LOVE to have even more for Vita since it’s so close to launch!

  • Can’t wait!
Loved every single one of these beauties :)

  • I really hopes this collection comes with a teaser trailer for a new Jak game that’s made by Naughty Dog. :D Imagine how great it would look using Uncharted’s engine… =O

Oh, and since Jak X isn’t included, please re-release it as a PS2 Classic.

  • Thanks for the announcement Evan and the ND guys.
Glad to see more ND-love poured over our PS3s. Lookin’ forward to launch day =)

  • great news!
i’ve been waiting for a jak collection and finally it’s official :D

  • Cool. Missed these the first time around.

    Day 1 purchase for me.

  • I hate how the series became a shooter, I liked the first Jak and Daxter as like a fun adventure game.

  • Now all we need is a Ratchet & Clank Collection to complete the holy trinity.

  • TROPHIES!!

  • YES!!!!!! day 1 for me. I love the series. I was also wondering think you can slip a free code for Jak & Daxter: The Lost Frontier? or make it a pre order bonus? That would be awesome.

  • ive only played jak 3 and i loved that so why not buy this and start in order.

  • @ #18 EXACTLY !!!!!!

  • Do you think we will see Jack-X Racing? I really hope so

  • no jax x racing?

  • Awwwww yeahhhhhh!!!! I can not wait for this!! I lost my Jak 2 so this helps alot.

  • Glad to see Naughty Dog going back to their roots despite Nate’s status as Sony’s poster child. The only thing missing now is Crash in HD. Collection or reboot, doesn’t matter to us.

  • Is this going to have all the language tracks? Am I going to be able to play it Italian with Korean Subtitles? Japanese with French Subtitles?

  • THIS BETTER BE REAL AND NOT A STUPID LATE APRIL FOOLS JOKE!!!!!!!

  • Gahh, you guys are the greatest :) I was wondering if those rumors of this very thing were true. I’ve not been back to the world of Jak/Daxter for quite some time it feels. <3 Thanks soooooo much for doing this!

  • WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!

  • YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I’ve been waiting for so long!!! I remember playing Jak & Daxter when I was just 8 years old! to this day the whole trilogy are my fave games of all time! Thank you so much Naughty Dog and Sony!

  • Obligatory HD Collection complaint: Why no “Jak X: Combat Racing?” It continued the story and was a very good game. I simply don’t see why it wouldn’t be included.

But seriously, thank you Naughty Dog. This is incredibly exciting news and as long as the porting is handled well (The Sly Collection is an EXCELLENT example of this), I couldn’t be happier. Hopefully a sign of more J&D to come in the near future.

Jak 4 teaser trailer unlocked for getting all three Platinums?

  • Oh man, I have so many memories of these games — they’re some of my favorite EVER (and I’ve been gaming since the NES days!). My favorite out of all three might be that one mission in Jak 3 where you get the one vehicle with the enormous shocks that could jump into the air, and realizing that they indeed built a chunk of the world where you needed to platform with A FRICKIN CAR to get to the next temple! It was awesome! The most fun vehicular-based gaming moment since Sucker Punch’s Rocket: Robot on Wheels had that motorcycle with bat wings (it’s a shame so few people know what I’m talking about. *sigh*)

But I gotta ask, Eric, why stop at the 3 main games? Jak X, being a spinoff, I can sort of understand. But Jak & Daxter: The Lost Frontier – despite not being a Naughty Dog developed game – is another quality action adventure. And one I’m assuming relatively few fans have played. I figured it would’ve been a great opportunity to introduce it to the fans. It’s also the only one that has Crimson Skies-style flight combat, which keeps it distinct from the hover vehicles of Jak 2 and the dune buggy style grounded vehicles of Jak 3. Why omit that title?

  • Oh, I forgot to say, THANK YOU! :) As much as I wonder why Jak X and Jak: Lost Frontier have been omitted, I’m picking this up on DAY ONE!

  • Woah, that’s amazing! Thank you, Naughty Dog and Mass Media.
Good to see these classics weren’t forgotten. Lots of Jak fans are happy with this announcement :)

  • Yeah I have Jak 1-3 and the latest one. The most recent not by naughty dog was a major disappointment.

  • Never played Jak 3 so I’m eager for this collection. It’ll be nice to replay 1 and 2 as well.

  • I’m finally able to log-in using Google Chrome.

Anyway, YES, FINALLY. Thanks Naughty Dog, maybe this time i’ll be able to get all the orbs (i got all of ’em only in the 1st game).

But, is Jak X coming in this collection or just Jak ‘1’ – 3?

  • I might have to buy this collection, I loved playing the J&D games on my PS2, in fact the J&D series got me into the whole platformer style market. If it wasn’t for this series I may never have enjoyed games like R&C and the Uncharted series.

  • @hashem816: Just as excited as you!!!

If I could import my PS2 saves, I would probably have platinum in all 3 games already! :D

I have been WAITING for this day to come, now the final piece of the puzzle will be Jak 4 developed by Naughty Dog…

  • Disappointed it’s not 1080p for non-sterescopic play, but it’s livable if the MLAA is applied decently ;)

Has the audio been re-encoded from its original assets? Really poor audio has been the most disappointing aspect of all these HD re-releases, and the disingenuous attempt at a filter/EQ-based workaround in Ico was just sad. Of course, nothing was worse than Prince of Persia Sands of Time — one of my absolute favorite games — which didn’t even apply a 32-bit echo/reverb effects in real-time, it used statically applied effects at 11khz!

That being said, it’s great to see them improve the poly count of the character models a bit, especially noticeable in the heads. After how unnecessarily bad the Sly Cooper HD versions looked, it’s nice to see Naughty Dog kick it up a notch.

Will they be re-encoding the cutscenes in 720p with losslessly-compressed audio? The games are shipping on a bluray, right?

  • They should’ve add: Trailer made using Windows Movie Maker.. I mean seriously, what the hell with those fonts and effects?

  • Man…this is going to be EPIC. Day one for me for sure…oh and are they any plans on releasing Jak X in HD? I actually liked that game, it was fun. You could release it as just a downloadable title…

  • Looking forward to replaying the first. And being disappointed the second and third got turned into GTA clones for a second time.

Serious question. Are you going to fix the 93% game breaking save glitch from Jak 2?

  • Excellent news!:P I missed them in the PS2 days(sorry i was/am a R&C fan) :D But i want to play these 3 games;)
+ At the moment i am playing ‘The SLY Trilogy HD’ And that is amazing:P (i missed that last gen to)

    All i want now is a –

‘TimeSplitters HD Collection’ PLEASE! SOMEONE! DO! IT!!! :P

  • yay, I’ve been waiting for this to happen, I enjoyed all 3 when they first came out (although I never finished the 1st one). I will definitely pick this up.

I hope Sony decides to do this for the Ratchet & Clank games also.

  • I love Jak and Daxster. And in HD and 3D. You can’t go wrong there.
    Thank you

  • YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I’ve BEEN wanting this forever Jak and Daxter FTW!! Thank
    you naughty dog and Sony!!!!!!!!!!!!
