ModNation Racers: Road Trip Track Studio – Part Two

This week we follow up with even more great features of the ModNation Racers: Road Trip Track Studio. Last week we revealed these exciting brand new features… Multiple Themes, Fully Rotatable Props, Draw / Trace Track, and Estimated Track Times (read about them HERE). Here are a few more great features in ModNation Racers: Road Trip for Vita that will help you to become the ultimate track designer:

1. Mod Terrain
The most talked-about feature in ModNation Racers: Road Trip is the use of the front screen and rear touch panel to sculpt your track’s terrain. In Finger Sculpt simply touching a finger to the front touch screen will immediately begin to lower that section of terrain. Continuing to press or rub the area will result in lowering the terrain or create lakes, valleys, or rivers. Conversely the rear touch panel allows you to raise your terrain to create mountains, peaks, plateaus, vistas, etc… with just you fingertip(s). Try making a mountain range with all your fingers… kinda awesome! That’s what Multi-Touch Functionality is all about!

2. Edit Track
Probably the most powerful tool in the new track creation studio is the Edit Track feature. To put it simply, using the corresponding points on the Edit Track Bar you can raise, lower, bank, widen or narrow your track with super simple intuitive touches. Want to raise a section of the track?… press and hold the middle point of the track edit bar and simply slide your finger up. Too high?…slide you finger back down. It is very natural and very intuitive. It’s guaranteed to bring back those childhood memories of building that dirt track in your back yard for your toy cars and trucks. All other adjustments are equally as simple. This feature takes track creating to a new level and it’s a lot of fun!

3. Alternate Route
This feature allows you to easily create branching routes or shortcuts (depending on your desired outcome) by simply touching a beginning and end point on your existing track. An alternate route is instantly generated for you. You can of course undo and try again from a different spot on the track until you achieve your perfect route. The Alternate Route feature does all the heavy lifting for you.

4. Offroad Path
Want to take your racers a little off the beaten path?… Show them some of the hidden beauties of your track?… Reward them with a shortcut of hidden item pods?… or just lead them on a wild goose chase?… Simply use your finger to draw your path off and back onto your track and voila!… you’re offroadin’!
As you can see we’ve not only given the players more power to create but all this can be done in a fun, intuitive, and immersive nature. This is just the beginning. Hang on to your hats as we will be bringing you more details in the upcoming weeks!

This Week’s Top Tracks: “Best By The Best” prob_alex
While we are on the subject of track creating what better example of the “art” of track design can we offer than prob_alex? He is one the of the game’s most prolific and creative track designers to date. He shares his personal favorite tracks here as well as a nice tutorial on his unique and often “replicated” track creation style. TUTORIAL HERE

Hopefully you can take away some great tips to become a more creative track designer. I know I did!

  • cool, you can do off road. makes me want to get the vita and this game right now! :)

  • Are the tracks that were submitted for Hot Lap last week, still available for next week?

  • Yes. Next week will be the submitted Hot Lap tracks

  • Ok, thanks for the reply. Looks like there’s a really good line up for this week, and kudos to the ones who created those mod and karts!

  • Between this, LittleBigPlanet, Uncharted, Gravity Daze and Little Deviants, it’s so hard to choose what I’m most excited for. Nice job Sony :D

Also, will the PS3 version DLC be downloadable to the PSVita version?

  • Thanks for the feature. :) and hope everyone likes my choices of hotlap for the week.. Sorryif you dont lol..

quick question – ps vita – If all props are roataional, does this mean that the ground does not raise up with the buildings?? or is it only small props that can be rotated?

  • Has this been confirmed as a launch title yet? Looking for a game to compliment my First Edition Bundle :).

  • I use to play MNR all the time, glad I don’t anymore. Seriously though the name for the Vita game sucks. Modnation Racers: Road Trip? Seriously, what a stupid name.

  • will Road Trip be part of the vita launch line up ?

  • Richieappel:

I think it’s an amazing name. It makes sense: Road Trip. It’s a portable game. you play it on the go. It has a ring to it. what did you have in mind?

poodude & remanutd5 to my knowledge it is a launch game. If not, it should be out around launch window :P

  • @8 glad you dont anymore?? but yet your commenting on a post… why would you even write your comment :s

  • @11 Because I usually check the blog once a day, and Monday is Modnation Monday. I use to read Modnation Monday blog posts pretty much religiously every Monday. I still look to see what the developers are up to with the game, and what’s new. I bought the game at launch last year, it was all I played until February of this year. It got old, and it got boring. Just because I no longer play the game doesn’t mean I can’t read the blog, and comment when I want to. I’d rather see them announce MNR2 for PS3, rather than seeing a poorly named Modnation Racers: Road Trip on the Vita.

  • Any possible bundling for the DLC track packs?
3 packs for 10$ is a bit steep.
buy 2 get the third free?

  • @12

A Modnation Racers 2 for home consoles is inevitable.

But why do you got a problem with the PSVita getting one..?
I mean, with ModNation being a AAA series on PS, it deserves a PSVita title.

and seriously, how can you hate that name?

Also, question to Mark: What is your favorite color? I had to ask…

  • Oh yeah! I got this and Uncharted paid for. Along with the Vita to get my party started on day one. Thank you Sony. ;)

  • Mark sorry for commenting on your post of something that is not related to ModNation entirely but is related to Vita. If it helps I’ll be getting this game when I manage to get my hands on a Vita. Like I said I’ll definately get this and Golden Abyss, but I may not be able to get them on launch day because I might wait a little for other good titles. Ok, the reason I write this here is because someone from Sony will read this and hopefully think about a dream game I have. I really wish the Vita had a Final Fantasy 7 remake exclusive. Just think about how many people would buy the Vita for that game alone. I know I would, and I’m sure many here would too. I don’t know if that would even be possible(talking publishers, exclusives and stuff like that), but it would sure be awesome. If it is possible I’m sure it would be a pricy investment but it would sure pay of. Man I just imagine fighting Sephiroth with HD summons, or earning trophies for defeating Emerald and Ruby Weapons, or maybe even just hearing the character voices and I go crazy. Just a dream maybe, but here aquastorm22 giving you what I think is a great idea Sony.

  • Wow this looks so awesome! But I have one question. Will the original button controls be back, along with the new touch controls? I don’t have a problem with touch controls, but sometimes I might just want to be really precise with my edits. Also I have a suggestion. Could we get 90 degree turns? All the turns in MR are always rounded. It would be nice to see a bit of sharpness every once in a while :)

    • hmmmmm 90 degree turns. Good question. I am pretty sure it’s not a feature of track layout editor but I’d be willing to guess that someone has (or will) figure it out using “offroad” feature in ModNation Racers Road Trip or “breadcrumbs” in ModNation Racer for PS3.

      Anyone?

  • @17 90′ can be made using the advanced edit mode :) also using breadcrumbs is another way.. there are many tracks that have 90′ turns.. mt new Ruins of Azltan has some.. hope this helps

  • thanks alex :)

  • @Mark Wilson

I have this game, and is great so far, specially in the multiplayer.

But you guys should try to introduce more variety of weaponry. It becomes very repetitive in the middle of the racing.

That’s all I think this game lacks, good thing there is new content with the sharing feature.

    Later.
