A new system software update (v4.00) will be released this week. In preparation for the launch of PlayStation Vita (PS Vita) in Japan, this update will prepare PlayStation 3 (PS3) to serve as a content management device. It will allow users to copy their digital content such as games, music, photos, and videos between PS Vita and PS3, back up PS Vita game games including save data to your PS3 hard drive, and update the system software for your PS Vita system using the network features of your PS3.
Other changes to take effect with this update include:
- PlayStation Plus members can now choose to enable or disable each automatic update feature
- Game patches
- System software
- Recommended games and videos
- Sync trophy information
- New PlayStation Network settings for filtering friend requests and messages

Throw in the nickname feature that ALL Japanese PSN users have and make it available to ALL other PSN users and we’ll call it a deal.
you need to add more options to auto save cloud data, i have 40mb but recently turned the option on SmackDown vs Raw 2011, then turned it off bc its game saves were too heavy, since then everytime ps3 does auto cloud saving it tries to upload SVR2011 game data and always end up with a cloud space full message, hoping someone can help me to completely deactivate it or you add a better option to manage auto cloud save updates on upcoming firmwares.

This update has broken vital PSP -> PSP functionality. Please take the update offline and issue a statement about these problems asap. :(

This should have been 3.80???? Not 4.0.. Oh well I really hope for more features on the PS3.. The one thing I do wish is for Sony is to say something.. Anything regarding Cross Game Voice Chat… Im not saying they need to say “we never said it is coming to the PS3”.. Can we at least know if it is possible… Yes Anything is possible, and PS3 is a very neat system. I will never sell my 60GB PlayStation 3! :) I think alot of us want more communication and stability support! Since social networking and online is REALLY BIG in this industry.

Why can’t the updates release at the same time on the website as on the PS3? I hate turning on my PS3 asking for an update and then turn on my PC just to see that I can’t download the newest version. (I prefer downloading from my computer cause that way is faster and I can use the PS3 while it downloads)

Lame update for one that chances to 4.0…. I mean, this is SUPPOSED to be the 4th MAJOR update to grace the PS3, when nothing new on it but an app to manage the Vita for Japan… wow. Not that I like more my menues than my games, but come on, you need to show to your fans that you are actually doing something for them… What’s the use for us to post on the Playstation Share if you use NO FREAKING IDEAS FROM THE LIST… lame. If all games were multi-platform, I might consider M$, but since all good games are on the Playstation I can’t really do a move, sadly in a way.

I went to the update just now on my PS3 it downloaded then started to install but everytime it installs 30% it Says Error 8002F157 (Yes i will contact support) :) 9:41 PM November 29th
its because this horrible update is flawed. Users are having a number of issues. Me and a few others lost psp copy support and remote play, others cant access the friends… oh wow.
If I have already read the PS3 manual, why must I still see the startup splash screen? Why is there no option to get rid of it? Why after 5 years, must we really have to look at this godawful startup screen when we didn’t have it before?
Can we please please please just go back to either the PS1 or PS2 startup screen? We didn’t have to sit through a health warning screen for those.
Similar to how I don’t need messages reminding me to take breaks and go to sleep if I’m tired, etc. Oh and I don’t have epilepsy to my knowledge, so why am I forced to sit through those screens in games?
This health warning is very obtrusive and unwelcome. Not sure why I have to sit through that screen on MY PS3 that I purchased.

I am actually extremely disappointed with Sony and this update. I expected more from such a top notch company. I have stood by them time and time again when everyone of my 360 owning friends told me to just get an xbox. I continued to have faith in the ps3. Why would you release such a critical update (being 4.0), with crappy features. Why not just make it 3.9. Im really really dissappinted at how Xbox Live is so sexy compared to the staleness we Ps3 users get. Do i want the PS3 to be an Xbox 360? No, but I do want to be able to brag about my system and explain how nice and sleek, and cool the features are.
My aunt just bought me a 360 for my bday, I told her I wouldn’t play it much, because yeah, I am a true sony fan. Been that way since the ps1 days. But after signing on to live and checking it out, oh man, you can def see the progress of it compared to the PSN. Such a user friendly interface. I ask yet again, do i want the PS3 to be the 360.. no.. but I do want more than just security updates. Maybe it’s asking to much. Maybe they are willing to let down the countless users that have purchased this system.

The 3G Vita will have a monthly fee with AT&T. Don’t know the cost, but it will have it.

@ ccrogers15, PS+ has been very very worth it so far and got one year for $50 + 5 free months, and just purchased a one year subscription for $14. You get to keep everything else aside from the free games, so what is the problem? My subscription is good until November 2013 and that is plenty, plenty of time to finish those free games. For retail games, how often do you finish a game just for it to end up sitting collecting dust on your shelf anyway?

Every time I update my PS3.. I always notice something different.. Are the Profile Boxes smaller???

I can and will express my opinion as i have. Get over it.
I wish this was a XMB update and besides the updates they throw out are dumb, they need to make it where we can cross chat already make a new dashboard. For sake at least do something new, so you can have new customers come to PS3. I believe that if they did cross chat and XMB that Xbox would go down the drain. See sony if your a company that cares for customers and want to make money then listen to the people. Thats all I have to say later. Lame update by the way should of been 3.9.
