Exclusive Look At New Characters In New Yakuza: Dead Souls Trailer

Kellie Parker's Avatar + Posted by Kellie Parker on Nov 30, 2011 // Community Manager, Sega of America

You may have heard that Yakuza: Dead Souls is coming to PlayStation 3 in March 2012. Like Yakuza 4, the game will let you play as four characters, including two never-before-played fan favorites: Goro Majima and Ryuji Goda. It’s a Yakuza experience like none other, because this time, you’ll be fighting a horde of blood-thirsty zombies.

The undead are multiplying and filling the streets of Tokyo’s red light district. The area is quarantined quickly, but degenerates into a district full of terror, panic and devastation. Survivors try to flee the city, but four men rise up to protect those they care most about. If you think zombies are bad, meet the Yakuza.

Playable for the first time in Yakuza: Dead Souls, Goro Majima is nuts about zombie movies. He’s so excited to be killing off zombies that when you’re playing as Majima, you’ll be picking fights with zombies, instead of just merely defending yourself. Now that’s bad ass.

You probably thought Ryuji Goda was dead after Yakuza 2. But you’d be wrong, and not because he’s a reanimated zombie back to munch your brains. He’s more interested in cooking you some takoyaki at a street stall. In case mysteriously reappearing from the presumed-dead for some yummy fried octopus is not ridiculous enough for you, you should know that his prosthetic arm can transform into a gatling gun. You’ve never been able to play as Goda before, and it’s not something you’ll soon forget.

Your returning Yakuza favorites, Shun Akiyama and Kazuma Kiryu, will also be packing some heat: Akiyama specializes in dual handguns to protect himself, and Kiryu, not one to skimp when it comes to strength, will have a very special gun of his own.

Play as your favorite character, grab an attractive hostess to be your butt-kicking sidekick and arm yourself with your favorite gun or whatever item is within reach – chainsaws, bicycles, fire extinguishers, desks or anything else you can pick up. It’s time to fight some zombies!

Want to ask Kate about her favorite item to smack a zombie with? Want to ask Kellie what the heck takoyaki is? We’ll both be in the comments to answer these and any other Yakuza: Dead Souls questions you have for us.

I love takoyaki! It’s not usual to find it where I live right now (México City), but there’s the anime conventions and Mikasa (a Japanese supermarket).

To stay on topic: Please can you tell us if we’ll get a demo of this game on PSN (and when)?

Yakuza 1 and 2 were some of the best game of all time!
Nishki-yama in Yakuza 1 and Ryuji in Yakuza 2 were some of the best villans of all time!
Kiryu Kazuma is the most baddass hero of all time in Yakuza 1 and Yakuza 2.
I hope they add those classics to the store or release a HD collection.
These games beat the hell out of gta or any other rpg.

It is very disappointing to see this crappy spinoff getting localized rather than the two PSP Yakuza games. Any chance of Yakuza 1 & 2 being available on PS3? It can either be a HD Collection OR it could be through PSN as you can now download PS2 games from PSN.

Yakuza 1 stops at a certain point in the game that can’t be passed by any means on a backwards compatibile 80GB PS3.

IS there a chance of this one being dubbed? The lack of dubbing is what stops me from really getting Yak 3 and 4. I played the demos and my friend’s copies. It’s a fun game but the subs go too fast that I can’t read the story and pay attention to the action on screen.

The game retains its original Japanese VO, which includes some well-known Japanese stars and famous actors/actresses. But the subtitles don’t move too quickly, and with some practice, you should have no trouble reading along.

Will there be a chance for Yakuza: Dead Souls to be dubbed? Since I’m a native English speaker, I have the same problem with any form of media that is subtitles only: I find myself just staring at and reading text most of the time, as opposed to what’s happening on-screen. As a result, I feel fairly detached from the characters and story.
Since the Yakuza series is known for amazing characters and story lines, this could be an issue.

For example, I couldn’t even imagine if Metal Gear Solid was full Japanese audio. All those memorable lines we know and love to quote and various ways would be lost. These things just don’t have that same impact when you’re listening to gibberish while reading text, rather than hearing a delivery in your native language.

While yes I was planning on getting End of Days, and Yak 3 and 4 (waiting for more fair prices as again I don’t see this game to be worth $60 since you do a minimal job the port to America). So, while I guess 1 customer does not mean much to you, I’ll be sure to try my best to sway everyone I know from Sega games.

Nevermind the people who ignore Yak simply because it isn’t dubbed. I’m not saying they have to get rid of the Japanese dub I’m saying add in the options of English dubs. It can be DLC like Dynasty Warriors 7 had.

Also, really going to insult someone simply because they want to be able to get the full experience from a game?
