I’ve got shocking news for PlayStation.Blog readers: Tomorrow marks the five-year anniversary of PlayStation 3’s launch in the United States of America. Just think — our beloved black box was born into a primordial world where online multiplayer modes were the exception, not the rule; HDDs were a side option for game consoles, not a standard feature; standard-def DVDs were the only choice for home video; and Nathan Drake wasn’t a household name. It’s unthinkable!
To mark the big day (which technically hits tomorrow, November 17th), I asked an army of industry-leading game developers to share their top three “must play” PS3 games. The result is a a definitive list of PS3 games by some of the best game designers in the business. And stay tuned: more developer selections may be on the way!
At long last, THQ and our friends at PlayStation are proud to unveil additional content for Saints Row: The Third owners on PS3. For all players that purchase Saints Row: The Third on PlayStation 3 and redeem their online pass codes within the next 90 days, they will receive a digital copy of Saints Row 2 (a $19.99 value)… absolutely free!
Go back to a simpler time, when the Saints were vying for control of Stilwater, before they were global icons, a household name, and a criminal empire. Before Professor Genki and the Syndicate, there were the Westside Rollers and the Brotherhood. Enjoy classic Saints Row activities like Septic Avenger, where you spray new homes with sewage in order to devalue property. And of course, enjoy a number of DLC packs brought to you by Volition’s favorite Saints Row 2 producer, Tera Patrick.
PlayStation Network will be offline for routine scheduled maintenance on Thursday, November 17th from approximately 8am until 10pm PST.
During the maintenance, you will be unable to access the following services:
In addition, you will not be able to sign in to PlayStation Network from us.playstation.com. However, some users may be able to play online during the maintenance.
During this maintenance, you can continue to collect in-game Trophies and these will be updated on your profile once PlayStation Network is back up and running.

Coming to the PlayStation Store this week is a new category called PS3 Full Games for games that were previously disc only but are now available to download on PSN. Not only will this make it easier for you to find those larger previously disc-only experiences, but you’ll also find DLC, add-ons, demos, and any other content associated with games in this category all housed in the same area once you click on the respective game. Games that are developed and exclusively available via download are now in the newly created PSN Games category.
Kicking off the new PS3 Full Game category is the release of Red Dead Redemption and the Undead Nightmare Collection. You can either download these 2 standalone titles separately, or save some money and pick up the bundle including both Red Dead Redemption (Full Game) and its zombified expansion Undead Nightmare Collection (Add-on). All Red Dead Redemption content is 30% off, or snag a 50% discount if you’re a PlayStation Plus subscriber.
In PSN Game new releases; check out Jurassic Park – The Game, from the episodic masters of gaming: Telltale Games.
Jurassic Park: The Game launches today on PSN and will be available for free to all new PlayStation Plus subscribers who purchased a one-year Plus subscription between 11/1 and 11/8. In honor of today’s PSN launch, we wanted to give players a sneak peek of the dinosaurs that roam the park and menace the player. Many new prehistoric creatures await you in the full game, but below are five of the big-league thunder lizards that you will face later today.
The frightening Tyrannosaurus Rex, often known as the king of the dinosaurs, stands over 13 feet tall and is 40 feet from its snout to the tip of its tail. With Jurassic Park’s T-Rex having been clocked at 32 miles per hour, this carnivore is not one you’d want to come face-to-face with. Especially not while searching for a lost can of Barbasol shaving cream filled with stolen embryos!
