HomeBlog_Boilerplate_554x341_PrimaryLogo_CyanOnBlack

This Thursday, December 8th, we will release the latest update to the PlayStation Home client. PlayStation Home version 1.60 delivers a wealth of improvements and updates to the core client, not the least of which is a doubling of the item placement limit in personal spaces! Here’s a look at what’s coming to you as part of PlayStation Home v1.60:

How to Apply the v1.60 Patch
If you are upgrading from an old version of Home (v1.40 or earlier) then when you attempt to apply the v1.60 patch please wait for the orange “hard drive activity” light to stop flashing on your PS3 before commencing the patching process.

NEW FEATURES

    Furniture Placement Limit

  • We have doubled the furniture placement limit in personal spaces and clubhouses from 50 to 100 items.
  • Standard and active furniture limits have been merged into the same system. Currently all actives take up 22 furniture slots in the new system. Thus you can now place a variety of different combinations:
    • 100 standard furniture items or…
    • 78 standard furniture items and 1 active or…
    • 56 standard furniture items and 2 actives or…
    • 34 standard furniture items and 3 actives or…
    • 12 standard furniture items and 4 actives.

GENERAL IMPROVEMENTS

    Targeting in Personal Spaces

  • Targeting in personal spaces has been improved.
  • This means you shouldn’t accidentally target furniture items through floors or ceilings any more.
    • Although we have made exceptions for wall hangings and lights as these tend to be placed quite high up.
    • If you find any items of furniture in places you can’t reach then you can always remove them through the furniture browser and place them somewhere else.
    Portable Items and Companions

  • We have changed the way that companion portables work so they will now automatically re-activate after you enter and leave a game or relocate between spaces. No more having to put your companion away and take them out again when you do this!
    Help System

  • There is a new help system to aid new users as they explore PlayStation Home for the first time.
    Arcade Games

  • Arcade games are no longer subject to the 3 minute inactivity timeout when placed as furniture in Personal Spaces or Clubhouses.

CHANGES

    Menu Pad

  • We have removed the “Community” section of the Menu Pad. The information that used to be contained in here is now communicated via the Message of the Day pop-up at login and the new loading screens.

Of course, there are plenty more bug fixes and enhancements that are part of v1.60 as well which will help improve your day-to-day experience in the wide world of PlayStation Home. There are also additional tools for developers that will enable them to make better games than ever before possible on the platform are coming as part of this massive update. We’re excited to bring you a bigger, better PlayStation Home just in time for the holidays. Log in this Thursday to check out this upgrade and, as always, please give us your feedback at the official PlayStation Home forums.

In other news, it appears that ol’ Granny Lockwood’s been hard at work again, and this time she’s taken her inspiration from the chilly extremes of the planet the North and South Poles! Pumpkin Pie the Polar Bear and Popsicle the Penguin can’t wait to play with you. They both love to do tricks – be patient and they’re sure to show you what they can do (Granny Lockwood also knitted them some cousins just for the Gift Machine – look out for them – they’re only available for a limited time!)

Midwinter Angel or Burning Desire? This Winter Medusa line brings you the latest hairstyles, perfect for relaxing on a frosty afternoon or heading out to a glitzy evening party. Men have the choice of a new short, mid-length, or long look. The Troy is a side-parted, clean-cut look with just enough tousling to ensure it won’t look out of place with smart or casual attire. For those with angelic tendencies, there’s the wavy mid-length Gabriel, and for those who want a more casual look, The Tropical Dreamer is a long dreadlocked style.

Ladies can opt for up, down, or somewhere in-between. Up is The Burning Desire, an exquisitely complex do incorporating pinned waves and plaits, while down is The Eve, with gloriously long waves. The Midwinter Angel offers the best of both worlds, with pinned back sides and long loose locks. If you’re not sure which look to go for, the Medusa’s Winter Hairstyles Packs are available for both Male and Female – mix it up for each party!

Those of you that visit the new PlayStation Home Mall this week will also find awesome new items like VEEMEE’s “Devilrobots” companions and “Smug” furniture line alongside Mass Media’s latest additions to their Weird Wear series and various other items including new animated emoticons, companions (who doesn’t want a peacock?), new items in Threads (such as the Hollywood Celebrity line) and furniture (like the Star Projector)! Log in this Thursday to add these items to your collections! I hear there are going to be some freebies scattered throughout many of the shelves in the Mall this week as well…

Community Theatre

The PlayStation Home Community Theater is updated this week with new content from Gamer Indepth—ShoutOuts, episode 20 and Luge Control, episode 3. In ShoutOuts, the team covers recent holiday community events, and showcases some of the spooky content releases, and Luge returns covering her first experiences in Home’s newest game RC Rally.

Lastly, our friends over at nDreams are excited to give you a sneak peek of their new War Room Clubhouse, coming soon to PlayStation Home. Check out this early screen shot from nDreams:

nDreams War Room

For those who may not know, PlayStation Home Clubhouses are unique private spaces where users can invite dozens of their friends to be members of the club, and anyone on the members list can come and go from the space, even when the owner is not present. These are excellent for building and sustaining gaming groups, clans, brotherhoods, sisterhoods, etc. because of this very flexibility and access as an invite-only space.

In addition to all the standard features you’ve come to expect from PlayStation Home Clubhouses, the War Room has a very unique social feature that helps club owners or team leaders get their message across during club meetings or discussions. It also includes a special access point allowing users to teleport from the War Room to other set locations. We’ll have more info regarding this awesome new Clubhouse soon – keep your eyes on this Blog to stay in the loop!

See you in Home!

  • The Home team does it again!!!..This is a day to be remembered..100 Item limit..WoW you all..Happy Holidays.

    • Altering the personal space virtual item limit is a feature we’ve had high on our priority list for some time now, and it’s finally here! But that’s not all—it comes with more flexibility concerning the active items so users can do more of what they want with their stuff. Tomorrow’s update is definitely going to be a great day.

  • Does anyone know when HOME is getting out of the beta stage? Just wondering.

  • Thank you guys SOOO much for the Furniture Placement Limit increase! This alone is going to help so much thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you! Did I mention THANK YOU?

    • You’re most welcome.

And speaking of furniture, I believe tomorrow brings another virtual item sale. Check the Mall for marked-down prices on a bunch of our classic furniture!

  • Great update, especially the companions enhancement because I always forget to take my companion back out after switching spaces. The only thing I really want to see is the wardrobe/furniture sections to take advantage of 16:9 displays and for the navigator to zoom out so all of the icons can be seen at once. Thanks.

    • When it comes to re-activating my companions, I do too. This new feature will alleviate all that so our little buddies can travel with us from the moment we log on until we log out.

As for your feature requests, those are great ideas. Would you mind dropping it in the Home Suggestions sub-forum? http://us.playstation.com/home-suggestions

  • Love the Item update finally! btw..is there any word from ndreams on when we will get our aurora reward for 95 and get to level up to 100?

  • wow fantastic news
    well done guys

  • Not necessarily blog post related….

Please Glasswalls….will we ever see Central Plaza restored to it’s original form in Home? So many threads about it in the forums, yet no response from anyone official.

In reference to the update, sounds good, lets hope it all works well tomorrow.

  • Awesome Update, Glad to hear it finally.!!

  • That’s all fine and great, but will it correct the problems with not receiving rewards from the Theater and missing items I have bought and have yet to receive?

Just a suggestion to the Theater problem with rewards.. Why not put a separate Kiosk in the actual theater you want us to view things in so we have to go to that theater and access the kiosk to get them? It would solve so many problems.

    • That’s not a bad idea actually, but we’re hoping to have the reward issue solved in the near future that will be as solid an experience as can be.

  • THANK YOU!!! One hundred times over! having the increase to items will be such a welcome change, I got so many things to do now this weekend to my personal spaces that I always wanted to do! the companion update sounds good too, no more bringing out my little guys over and over. Love the Devil Robot’s, looks like the two I have will have a few buddies coming! Awesome update, Thanks Much! 8)

  • Upping the furniture limit, great move!! Now, if only you can whittle down the amount the active items take, then this would be a fantabulous move! Also, any details on what bugs were fixed? You were being kinda vague there…

  • What was the limiting factor that was overcome to allow the furniture limit increase?

    • Instead of having two separate pools of memory allocated to items (one for static items, the other for active items), they were combined into a single memory pool. This allows a lot more flexibility as it doesn’t lock up a certain amount for items that you may not choose to use, thereby freeing it up for the other type of item. No additional memory was magically created; the existing memory available was just reallocated in such a manner to offer more flexibility.

  • The flexibility is a nice addition but in all practicality, the item limit was increased by 6 if you still wanna use your standard 2 active items. Not trying to be a negative nancy here, just callin it like it is.

I know this one isn’t mangement’s fault. It’s the PS3’s. Good job at doing what you could with the severe lack of resources you have to work with.

  • All I can say is double thanks for the furniture increase and the new club! I can’t wait to see new clubs in the future! Merry Christmas!

    • If you’re interested in new Clubhouses, stay tuned. There are a few new designs coming, not just from nDreams!

  • i’m thrilled about the improvements in this release except for the removal of the Community menu pad selection. sometimes i’ll miss all or part of a message, and i’d go back to Community to re-read it. now you’re telling me i don’t have that option anymore, and the only way to see it again is to hope it shows up on a loading screen? or am i misunderstanding this?

  • the only downside i can see to this is that active items take up 22 normal item slots.

technically you get 8 extra slots if you use the standard 2 active items, 6 normal plus the 2 active where before it was 48 slots normal plus 2 active equaling 50

  • “• There is a new help system to aid new users as they explore PlayStation Home for the first time.”

This should not be overlooked. New user retention, particularly given the increased visibility of the Hub, should benefit considerably from a bit more handholding. That, in turn, should translate to longer user session times and greater revenue per average user. It’s easy for that bullet point to get lost in the avalanche of good news here, but it’s a huge step forward.

    Well done, Sony.

  • Awesome update!! So glad the limit has finally been increased.

What about Home’s 3 year anniversary? We not getting anything special for it?

  • Good all 4 Brimstone Dancers at one time… What more could one ask for. YAY!

  • Still Home needs to take the X button option off other peoples Avatars we go to play or target a game we have to push X to do that and if a avatar is near we get there Profiles instead of the game were trying to get. Games should use the X as always…. But for our Sakes put the Avatars on the Square Button that would make Home such better alone. Games = X Button and Avatars from other users should be the Square Button Please.

That way that would take care of that problem once and for all so we don’t get other avatars profiles when were trying to click on games then.

  • Will the horrible hair color palette be changed so the brighter colors dont look like a poor MS paint job? Otherwise alot of people will be happy now that the precious active item limit is expanded.

  • Wow!! This is one for the BOOKS!!!! Home evolution is simply OFF THA CHAIN!!! I can’t believe it! Dreams do come true!! (Thx to massive world wide forum posts? Hehe! :P) …and, WABAM!! Awesome new hair styles! I want them all! Thx HOME TEAM!! Thk u so much GW & L_S!!! You guys ROCK!!! Woot! Woot!!

  • One last Question when i go down this Blog a window pops out on the right side? That is a little anoying to say the least… :(

  • Wow!! Thx GlassWalls for your answer @comment #12!! You guys ROCK!!! PSHome citizen 4 life!! Woot!!! :D

  • OH were still waiting on NEW Avatar Skintones we been asking for these for years we need more Skintone options. ie: Skintone Colors… For one like Blanka GREEN skintone so Blanka can have his Green Face to make him more like Blanka…

    Make it so HOME!

  • It’s going to be one heck of a PARRRRRTEYYYYY!!!! Can’t wait!!! 1.60 here we COOOME!!!!! :P :D

  • Now this is a very Merry Christmas! Thank you for the news, GlassWalls, and the update Home Development Team. Time to add another arcade game to some of my personal spaces.

  • I LOVE THIS UPDATE! but one thing that makes me sad is the removal of the community tab in the nav, for me it was the only way i could the message of the day on my SDTV.

  • This is very good news.

I’m sure that there will be more clubhouses in the future that reflect different themes and (perhaps) hobbies. I’ve posted a few ideas in the monthly suggestion thread (http://community.us.playstation.com/thread/3905789). Hopefully others will too.

With this update, I can now make my Zombie DeadQuarters personal space look even more trashed. And now I might apply to be on Hoarders.

  • Lets just Hope we don’t loose more Rewards or Paid item’s with Update 1.60 Past Updates since 1.40 have proved to be a pain for this type of thing. Hope they got that problem fixed so we stop loosing rewards or paid item’s!

Still don’t have my Criss Angel Midfreaking Coffin Couch or my Paid item SFIV Abel GI TOP! It’s still broken in the Capcom store. That item needs to be fixed ASAP so it will work again!

    AWW!

  • Awesome news about Clubhouses and the increase in flexibility of the furniture limit is wonderful. Thank you.

  • “some freebies scattered throughout many of the shelves in the Mall this week”

Thanks!! Lovin em! btw just wanna know, are you hinting that we might want to search every week for MORE freebies, other than the usual 10 items we know about? (wink wink)

  • That’s a brilliant solution to the furniture limit problem. I’m very happy about this, but I do have a question.

Why have the Active Items been assigned to 22 furniture slots? I know that some of them use all of this memory, like the Scariachi Band, but simpler items like the animated pets or the Active DJ Light use a lot less, don’t they?

Perhaps in the future, we can have two tiers of Active Items, those that use 22 slots and those that use 11, so that we can have even greater flexibility in decorating.

Looking forward to seeing new clubhouses as well.

  • I got suggestions on what to work on next!

    1. Cut loading times.
    2. Fix that horrible chat lag that happens when you load a space recently.
    3.
    4. Profit.

Seriously though, that lag kills me, and it’s not my connection strength.

  • ok im sooo Happy the furniture limit went up to 100. Thank you soooooooo much GlassWalls and Development team , However…………..LOL i know , i know, but i would of liked the list to be like this

    100 Standard Furniture Items or…
78 Standard Furniture items + 4 active items
56 standard Furniture items + 3 active items
34 standard Furniture Items + 2 active items
12 standard Furniture items + 1 active items
to me it would make more sense , since a place like the Tycoon Penthouse (for example ) will not get filled with 12 furniture items just so you can have 4 active items . Maybe you can twist some arms and get it like my list, but if you cant, you still my favorite, tomorrow is my Bday so thank you, a very nice present . : )

  • Hey GW,

The update looks awesome. I’m psyched!. I was wondering. Can you give us any news about what’s being planned for home this Christmas?

  • Hey GlassWalls, nice upodate planned for tomorrow!
One thing to ask you tho.
Is it possible to create a Central Plaza Clubhouse (including Saucer Pop)?
For those who miss the old Central Plaza?

  • This is a long overdue improvement that Home fans have wanted for very long time. It’s good you finally woke up and listened. But there is a couple big caveats. One being the track record of previous home udates being unworkable for days or longer – waterfall terrace being one of the worst offenders so I hope you’ve put more QA effort in this time. The item limit improvments is a good step but the excessive limitations when active items are present is not only bizarre but negates the benefits. 4 items reducing normal items to a mere 12 is just indescribably bad. That just isn’t good enough, once you make sure it works as is it still needs some reworking and soon not years down the road.

  • Way to go Sony, i can hardly wait!!!!

  • OMG :DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD

  • Very Nice, I’m lovin’ Playstation Home since its New Hub and Makeover i went through and its only getting better and I KNOW there is more good new suppose to come soon!

Is the new clubhouse like the first clubhouse we have.. with a screen?

  • Not even close to perfect, but better then what we have now. It’s about time for at least some kind of increase. Next make 100 normal items and 5 active the standard!

So glad to see the winter hairstyles and Stichkins pets coming out. I can’t wait for the new Figment line and Dream Yacht, so hurry up with that, Lockwood.

The peacock pet is an instant buy for me, it’s about time we have some more birds! So glad the star projector is finally coming out too!

The last 2 weeks have been great on Home, and this week is too. Glad to see you people are on the ball again. I refilled my PSN wallet accordingly :)

  • NOW ALL WE NEED IS OUR TVS AND RADIOS TO PLAY CONTENT FROM OUR HDD. :)

  • Awesome news about item count in personal spaces. Will you be offering previews to the new club house? Guides to show others. As Homeling this would be awesome clubhouse for new Motherships such as mine. The very first thing I’m doing for my Mothership. Awesome Awesome. Bows. LP

  • captinjames you need to be greatful and close your mouth because making code changes and immplimenting it isnt done over night SPECIALLY while Home is still up and running AND FREE!! Get a Life!

    Home Kicks A$$

  • im with ERICKAFOLLIE , her list makes more sense to me . Thank you for the update and now a question, i only got 3 rewards from the Lockwood Publishing Showcase, do we have to wait until next week for the other 3 rewards ? I hope with this new update it fixes the downloading , i used my PS3, downloaded every single place there is , turn off the PS3, went back to it later on , and i had to Download every single place Again, but not only that, i freezed several times and it has been really s..tty, i guess we will see tomorrow. thanx for the update .

  • Oh, one more comment…that new clubhouse is UGLY and male-centric. It’s fine for men and their military clans to have a club, but please also come out with gender-neutral clubs that everyone can enjoy.

  • SONY, your software update version 4.0 has made several things on the PS3 worse instead of better:
    1. When I downloaded several games from Plus and the new Qore episode, then told the PS3 to turn off after downloading, it only installed the Qore episode but not the games. Previously everything would install before shutting off.
    2. When I turned the system on today, I had to install each game separately, and the install bubbles did not go away. I then had to delete each install bubble separately.
These aren’t major issues, but they are moderate annoyances that weren’t there before and its frustrating to be going backwards in useability instead of forwards. Thanks.

  • This looks like a great update coming. The new War Room clubhouse looks amazing! Please consider these for other clubhouse layouts…

    1) Bowling Alley
    2) Night Club
    3) LittleBigPlanet themed
    4) Gran Turismo themed
    5) Uncharted themed

Well, you get the idea. But I’d love to see more clubhouse designs come out like those. :)
