HomeBlog_Boilerplate_554x341_PrimaryLogo_CyanOnBlack

This Thursday, December 8th, we will release the latest update to the PlayStation Home client. PlayStation Home version 1.60 delivers a wealth of improvements and updates to the core client, not the least of which is a doubling of the item placement limit in personal spaces! Here’s a look at what’s coming to you as part of PlayStation Home v1.60:

How to Apply the v1.60 Patch
If you are upgrading from an old version of Home (v1.40 or earlier) then when you attempt to apply the v1.60 patch please wait for the orange “hard drive activity” light to stop flashing on your PS3 before commencing the patching process.

NEW FEATURES

    Furniture Placement Limit

  • We have doubled the furniture placement limit in personal spaces and clubhouses from 50 to 100 items.
  • Standard and active furniture limits have been merged into the same system. Currently all actives take up 22 furniture slots in the new system. Thus you can now place a variety of different combinations:
    • 100 standard furniture items or…
    • 78 standard furniture items and 1 active or…
    • 56 standard furniture items and 2 actives or…
    • 34 standard furniture items and 3 actives or…
    • 12 standard furniture items and 4 actives.

GENERAL IMPROVEMENTS

    Targeting in Personal Spaces

  • Targeting in personal spaces has been improved.
  • This means you shouldn’t accidentally target furniture items through floors or ceilings any more.
    • Although we have made exceptions for wall hangings and lights as these tend to be placed quite high up.
    • If you find any items of furniture in places you can’t reach then you can always remove them through the furniture browser and place them somewhere else.
    Portable Items and Companions

  • We have changed the way that companion portables work so they will now automatically re-activate after you enter and leave a game or relocate between spaces. No more having to put your companion away and take them out again when you do this!
    Help System

  • There is a new help system to aid new users as they explore PlayStation Home for the first time.
    Arcade Games

  • Arcade games are no longer subject to the 3 minute inactivity timeout when placed as furniture in Personal Spaces or Clubhouses.

CHANGES

    Menu Pad

  • We have removed the “Community” section of the Menu Pad. The information that used to be contained in here is now communicated via the Message of the Day pop-up at login and the new loading screens.

Of course, there are plenty more bug fixes and enhancements that are part of v1.60 as well which will help improve your day-to-day experience in the wide world of PlayStation Home. There are also additional tools for developers that will enable them to make better games than ever before possible on the platform are coming as part of this massive update. We’re excited to bring you a bigger, better PlayStation Home just in time for the holidays. Log in this Thursday to check out this upgrade and, as always, please give us your feedback at the official PlayStation Home forums.

In other news, it appears that ol’ Granny Lockwood’s been hard at work again, and this time she’s taken her inspiration from the chilly extremes of the planet the North and South Poles! Pumpkin Pie the Polar Bear and Popsicle the Penguin can’t wait to play with you. They both love to do tricks – be patient and they’re sure to show you what they can do (Granny Lockwood also knitted them some cousins just for the Gift Machine – look out for them – they’re only available for a limited time!)

Midwinter Angel or Burning Desire? This Winter Medusa line brings you the latest hairstyles, perfect for relaxing on a frosty afternoon or heading out to a glitzy evening party. Men have the choice of a new short, mid-length, or long look. The Troy is a side-parted, clean-cut look with just enough tousling to ensure it won’t look out of place with smart or casual attire. For those with angelic tendencies, there’s the wavy mid-length Gabriel, and for those who want a more casual look, The Tropical Dreamer is a long dreadlocked style.

Ladies can opt for up, down, or somewhere in-between. Up is The Burning Desire, an exquisitely complex do incorporating pinned waves and plaits, while down is The Eve, with gloriously long waves. The Midwinter Angel offers the best of both worlds, with pinned back sides and long loose locks. If you’re not sure which look to go for, the Medusa’s Winter Hairstyles Packs are available for both Male and Female – mix it up for each party!

Those of you that visit the new PlayStation Home Mall this week will also find awesome new items like VEEMEE’s “Devilrobots” companions and “Smug” furniture line alongside Mass Media’s latest additions to their Weird Wear series and various other items including new animated emoticons, companions (who doesn’t want a peacock?), new items in Threads (such as the Hollywood Celebrity line) and furniture (like the Star Projector)! Log in this Thursday to add these items to your collections! I hear there are going to be some freebies scattered throughout many of the shelves in the Mall this week as well…

Community Theatre

The PlayStation Home Community Theater is updated this week with new content from Gamer Indepth—ShoutOuts, episode 20 and Luge Control, episode 3. In ShoutOuts, the team covers recent holiday community events, and showcases some of the spooky content releases, and Luge returns covering her first experiences in Home’s newest game RC Rally.

Lastly, our friends over at nDreams are excited to give you a sneak peek of their new War Room Clubhouse, coming soon to PlayStation Home. Check out this early screen shot from nDreams:

nDreams War Room

For those who may not know, PlayStation Home Clubhouses are unique private spaces where users can invite dozens of their friends to be members of the club, and anyone on the members list can come and go from the space, even when the owner is not present. These are excellent for building and sustaining gaming groups, clans, brotherhoods, sisterhoods, etc. because of this very flexibility and access as an invite-only space.

In addition to all the standard features you’ve come to expect from PlayStation Home Clubhouses, the War Room has a very unique social feature that helps club owners or team leaders get their message across during club meetings or discussions. It also includes a special access point allowing users to teleport from the War Room to other set locations. We’ll have more info regarding this awesome new Clubhouse soon – keep your eyes on this Blog to stay in the loop!

See you in Home!

  • I downloaded the patch, but it’s not installing it.

  • i downloaded the update and now it says, “Error you must download the latest update to use……..” something like that. but thats exactly what i did. then i went on here and decided to see if anyone else has had this problem. found out they want you to wait till the hard disk drive is done flashing. so i deleted home so that i can do it the way they say above. it still did the error message. so far im not liking this update thing. so, anyone else get this message? or is it just me?

  • 100 Furniture items……cool BUT 1 active item taking the place of 22 regular furniture items is Patheric.
We wanted to be able to put MORE Furniture items and MORE Active items , NOT More Furniture and Less Active items, this is like winning a 1,000 dollar prize but only end up with 200 dollars after taxes and all the other stuff.
You guys ( Home devs ) had to KNOW ahead of time , if 1 active item takes the place of 22 regular items , and us Home members, wanted to be able to use more Furniture items and more active items why would you even bother merging the furniture items and the active items together ? Whos idea was it ?
Lets say im in my personal space and i want to listen to the Playground boombox (active item ) but also i want to put 1 of my wall clocks, which is an active item as well, so basically , the only advantage to all this is 6 more furniture items thats it ! C`,mon guys, who thought about this ? Did anyone put the time and efford to think about this set up ? Its not gonna work , specially for those of us that have many active items .

  • Im with ERICKAFOLLIE , that is how the Furniture set up should be .
    Happy Birthday Ms. Ericka

  • Would the LOOT screens in personal places ( Sunset Yatch and Hollywood Hills) affect the amount of furniture items?

  • I downloaded the update, fine, walked around, fine, played a couple games, fine, went to exit and the system locked up.

  • Polo155, did you read the blurb on the side of the page that says don’t be a jerk?
Really kid you need to shut your trap. I will not kiss but just because some ignorant little kid like you says so. Home has been very half-a$$ed for a very long time. Since I’ve spent money on it, my own money I might add not a psn card mommy bought I have a right to speak my mind and call out the inadequacies. If you don’t like that you can STFU.

  • Unfortunately, I encountered exactly the same issue as “Yoshimi_Loire on December 8th, 2011 at 1:26 am” (see comment above), at around the same time after the midnight update…any resolution to this issue yet? Thanks!

  • targeting is MASSIVE FAIL !!!! each week you push me closer and closer to leaving the community i love . what the hell Sony ??? do you not want my money ? i appreciate the increase of items , although i think you need to increase memory as it’s actually just 6 extra items . but the targeting thing … it helps nothing ! it just keeps you from being able to get outside your apartment . 1st the floating glitch , the cubes to go through walls , now this ??? it is COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE ! check my account and you’ll see that i’ve spent thousands on Home . much that i’ve spent has been for glitching . i buy apartments JUST to glitch them , i buy furniture to use doing that . instead of limiting the owners targeting of furniture you should be making it MORE accessible to guests . this was obviously designed to make personal space glitching harder as i can target a carpet right outside my window but not the chair sitting on it . please fix this if you want my continued support .

  • I haven’t paid much attention lately to spaces, however upon reading about this new update, I must say I am pleased by the addition of additional furniture and/or active items depending how one uses them.

What I like best is not seeing furniture upstairs from downstairs (save for pictures & lights and the like) which used to bug me a lot. This is what I enjoy most about the furniture placement reading.

And having my pet follow me through transports also pleases me.

  • Love the new update, especially the added furniture limit. However, one thing I don’t think should have been done is the removal of the Community / Message of the Day from the menu pad. My TV isn’t HD and doesn’t have the greatest resolution so I can’t read the MOTD pop-up at login and had to use the menu pad to read it. So unless the MTOD font was enlarged, it’s currently impossible for me to read it without going into the menu pad. Also, it helps if someone wants to re-read it without having to go out and back in and out and back in… PLEASE bring it back. Thank you.

  • I HATE this update! I’m like Phats… I have LOTS invested in my PSH. I do mean LOTS. I have friends who have thousands invested as well, and most of my friends are like me. They glitch their spaces. It’s like a fun game to us. I’ve been whining about the furniture limit for years as well, but the tradeoff sucks. They didn’t GIVE us anything. They TOOK. They “rearranged” the limit. Now, mind you, I do like the furniture limit better now, but if given the choice of an expanded furniture limit or targeting through walls and floors… I’ll choose targeting ANY DAY over expanded limit.

I can tell you this. I will not buy any new spaces. I’m done buying spaces. With updates like these, Its only a matter of time before I lose all functionality of the spaces I already have. So if this was supposed to increase sales. It backfired. Your forgetting that the ones here who spend the most are the same ones who glitch spaces.

  • I didn’t do anything, but it works for me now! Perhaps I encountered problems because I tried to login too close to the update launch. Thanks!

  • Good one! Well done team. :D

  • Merry Christmas to us! Thank you Sony and the PSH Team!

  • @ phatso64, GlowingHomeling and everyone else complaining, how could you possibly hate on any of the changes that PSH has made? ALL of these changes are for the BETTER. Glitches are not purposely placed for your enjoyment and rudely taken away. They are mistakes that should have never been accessible in the software to begin with. If your pissed at loosing a glitch, that’s YOUR fault. You shouldn’t have used them in the first place, getting yourself attached to something that is inevitably going to be patched. You haters are the ones that should have known better. Must you be reminded xbox doesn’t include a home feature or a FREE network with over 20 million more users? Stop whining and be grateful.

  • um….my Conspiracy all access pass isn’t working…..a lil’ help plz?

  • Hey ezdrummer have you no eyes to see for yourself? or are you just one of the willingly blind fanatics? From your commentary the latter is evident. Lets not forget the facts here Phatso64 was complaining about the item targeting being far worse instead of improved. If you really believe that makes him a glitcher you need help badly. This update is as old timers say hogwash. And your condescending and hubris filled tirade is an example of whats wrong with this company. They really think they can pump out unfinished twaddle invariably late and always buggy and then not even openly answer people who report problems. Instead we get childish twaddle from the idiotic likes of ezdrummer and polo155. Heres another fact for you idiots, the home staff is paid to make these updates, its they’re job and there consistently failing to do it properly when they do anything. They don’t deserve grattitude, thats what their salaries are for. What is needed is accountability, accuracy, and honesty not half A%%ed crud and douchebaggery.

  • Im luvin the Theater with Free Movies! i could be in there all day watching movies and i might just do that this weekend!! haha… but i was wondering if u could put the good word in for me/us and put the movies, Norbit and The Godfather Collection on there to watch. That would be great!! =)

Good job on PS Home and all the new features!

  • GlassWalls:
As a lot of people have been wondering this and asking : What happen to the Sackboy Playmat? Every region got it but ours and it is listed on a number of Home sites as being for ALL regions and we still have NOT got it. We would really like to know. (I really want to know because I love LBP and really want the playmat. ^.^)

  • ok GlassWalls this is what`s happening to me. Every time i log into Home, i have to DOWNLOAD every single place i want to go to, Lets say im at the LAGGY Lockwood Publishing showcase but then i decide to go back to any of my personal spaces , and even though i had download every single place i own ,the very same day it tells me i have to download again .
If i turn the PS3 off as everyone should, to not waste energy, and i come back later on , I have to download every single place AGAIN , every public place and every place i own , i do not know if this is because of the Update but it`s really burning my muffins, Can anyone do something about this , please . Thank You .

  • Hello devs, i dont know if there was a reward to be given this weekend at the LOCKWOOD PUBLISHING SHOWCASE but i saw a FIREWORK item , Walked around it to see if it would pop but got nothing, same goes for all the other Home members , none of us got the Firework reward and now its 8:50 pm eastern time and the firework item is no more, it was remove before any of us got it as reward .

  • wow like that cool

  • i do not care about the furniture placement limit, and even though the companions now follow you everywhere, which is cool, what i really want to see is a fix for sirens ward of despair game. its very popular and always crowded. add separate lobbies for this game so that multiple games can run simultaneously!!

  • YESS!!! 100 items! Playstation home just keeps on getting better and better!

  • Never thought that this day would come! but amazing job!! can’t wait to get back on playstation home to check out the updates that i’ve missed!!
