The Roots“undun”
Anyone worried that house band duties for Jimmy Fallon would negatively affect The Roots commercial output will rejoice with Undun. Strutting to a 70’s groove, the album follows the trials and tribulations of a fictional 25 year old man and his struggle from life through death. You could argue the band is maturing, the music more subdued and atmospheric than loud and beat driven. It’s no less progressive however, and the band’s anchors in drummer ?uestlove and MC Black Thought are both in fine form.

T-Pain“rEVOLVEr”
Six years to the day after releasing his first album, Rappa Ternt Sanga, T-Pain wants to make it clear that he has grown a lot as an artist since 2005. He even “evolved” on social media, releasing the PrEVOLVEr mixtape once he hit 500,000 followers on Twitter. While best known for his use of auto-tune, T-Pain has taken ownership of the musical style, re-naming it “The T-Pain Effect” and fashioning his own, “I Am T-Pain” microphone to use on the album.

Recommended Track: “5 O’Clock (ft. Lily Allen & Wiz Khalifa)”

Dia Frampton“Red”
After starting sister-group Meg & Dia at age 18, Dia Frampton and co. gained moderate success before being dropped from their label in 2010. So what happens when you’re only 23 and starting from scratch? For Dia, that meant finding her way onto NBC’s talent search show, The Voice. Audiences were introduced to a singer with the weight of music industry disappointment on her back, who quickly shook it off rose to be the runner up on the show. She landed her own solo deal and now releases an album that fluctuates from sugary pop to country to electronic; a reflection of continued exploration of her style with many years left to refine.
